I used to have a E-newsletter going called that. But it died when it lost its only reader. It lives again (sorta) as a thread to talk Sega and things speedy. My first 2 cents, a game review- TEST DRIVE 6 -SEGA DREAMCAST- it's thinking, the console, not the game... $3.99, wow what a deal. Plus 10% off with my EB card. OK, this game was panned by the critics. It looked like a N64 racer, the sounds was blah, it wasn't a sim-racer, the arcade driving was below average etc. Most review scores had it well under 5 out of 10. I must say first off, I got my 3.99 worth out of this game. It owes me nothing. I raced, I laughed and souped up my 1970 Hemi 'Cuda. So let's break it down. The good- Whacko physics- the crashes with traffic cars are insane. Rear ending a stopped car at 90mph and having it launch off the pavement like a bottle rocket is worth a laugh. Big jumps are always nice. Moon gravity equals fun for sure. Graphics- simple, yes. Clean and clear, yes too. It isn't pretty but cars look like cars and streets look like streets. There is no collision damage but Crazy Taxi can get away with that. Cracking the radiators on slow traffic cars is satisfying and when the police chase you their lights are flashing. Game modes- The goal of the game is to earn money for power-ups on your tires, motor, suspension and brakes. Save a bundle and you can buy higher class cars for more track options. Money is gained by betting on your own races, completing challenges or playing cop. The cop chase mode is new to me. You run after 5 racers and attempt to stop them all, Chase HQ style. You get to keep the ticket money :) The bad- Sound- Effects are lousy. Cars sound like a cross between a power saw and a power drill. The suspension sounds like angry bedsprings. Music- Some songs are good. Others hurt my ears. I wish I could switch songs mid-race. More instrumental tracks have been welcome too. Short lyrical tracks, looped over get stale fast. Whacko physics- this turns on you as you power up your car. Take suspension. At level 4, your car will turn into a locomotive. It will plow through most anything that will move. If your car does start to flip it is like the game engine reminds the car that it DOES have level 4 suspension so it just performs a stunted flop. Boo hiss. In the end I found I had a Level 4 everything car that was very boring to use. It was stable, fast and "pointed" very well. But was I driving anymore? Tracks- I like the London Track and Hong Kong. The others, not so much. Later in the game racing circuits are available. At first glance they look like rally tracks. Sadly they don't drive like rally tracks and they even have traffic and cops on them. ?!!!!??? is all I can say to that. It's a race track darnit. Final score- Good enough for $3.99. I really dig TD6...hell, almost the entire TD series. Granted, the DC version of TD6 looked a bit "bleemed" and all, but it still played incredibly well. The physics are just hilarious, and the sense of speed is bad-ass. I bought it for, I think, around $10 and I think it was a hell of a deal. Also: If you'd like to revive your newsletter, you're more than welcome to post each edition here. :) Bel |

Sure. I have lots of old games that deserve a new look. TD6 was OK for what it was but it could have been better with SO little effort. The sense of speed was cool, I agree, especially with say a level 2 souped up Cuda. "Braking" against an oncoming car made for some funky replays. PS- do Baraka and JD do interviews? Down the road their views on racing might be enlightening. |

JD might be up for an interview...though his lazy ass is only awake for a few hours a day.
;) Baraka is just erratic, anything you get out of that kitty will be just plain crazy, at best. Bel |

I am absolutely BUSTING my kitty-ass to stay up, at least, 3 to 4 hours every day! You find me another kitty out there who is willing to put that kind of time into anything, let alone reviewing your Sega games! Reow! JD |

I am offended by the comment! I am not kitty-crazy, I'm not! Now back to shaving a carton of eggs while fighting off big chickens with mittens who are constantly trying to touch my head. Baraka |
