I see this game as common bargain bin fodder. But even JD seems to like it. "Straight up FPS" reminds me of Doom and Hexen. Yucky!! Still the screen pics look cool. I could probably go for it if it was find door B to go to level C and shoot darn freaks in front of me. No puzzlin' neither. I see good FPS as Medal of Honor, Golden Eye, TWINE 64, Turok ONE. Quake, Doom 64, Duke Nukem, Hexen and Turok 2 make me cringe. Is this kitty for me? Thanks! |

Well, Unreal Tournament is more of a deathmatch-only sort of FPS. There is no real single player campaign in the traditional sense, it's just playing the regular game with bots rather than human opponents. It's not for everyone...with your taste, I'm betting the original Unreal(or Unreal Gold) would be more to your liking. http://www.whipassgaming.com/PC/unrealgold.html Bel |

So if I killed all the bots on level C then I get to go to level D?That sounds OK if I can find it cheap enough. |

Yeah, that's pretty much it. There is a story in there, but it's a lot like PSO's story, where you have to put real effort into making something of it. I, personally, find it to be very interesting...I really dig the "Unreal" universe. Bel |

If the husky orange cat would like a review on something from my toy box he need but ask. If you are feeling brave, how about the low down on 1999 for Saturn? I hear it is a total shite FPS but I don't think there is an official review anywhere. |

OMG, you *are* aware that 1999 is the Japanese version of PowerSlave(Exhumed in the UK) by the all powerful and mighty Lobotomy Software....right!? That game rocks to no-end, one of the best FPS of all time, no doubt.
:) As for a review, like I said in our PM's, if you'd like to contribute any, I'd be more than happy to have them on the site. I can send you the template for whatever section you'd like to do reviews in. :) Bel |

Ack! I slandered your sacred game!!? I heard it was a weak ass Doom clone. I'll go check my research... 1999, shooter,black-red cover, skullish thing=PowerSlave? Edit-http://www.yamatoku.jp/game/description.asp?tno=90356032 oh boy... Edit 2- OK, I can't find that review that said import AD 1999 was a shite game but please consider sending Baraka to kill this guy instead... http://www.gamespot.com/saturn/action/powerslave/review.html Edit 3-*recovers from guilt and shame* I'll go through my stuff and find something neat to review. I'll try to get some VGS screen pics too. To make peace with the FPS powers that be I'll play some Soldier of Fortune on DC ASAP. |

Well, GameSpot does enough to embarass themselves with their obvious bias towards Sony products...no reason to send Baraka over there.
;) Check out Ben's post for more on that: http://s4.invisionfree.com/Whip_Ass_Gaming...p?showtopic=179 Thing is, like the PC version, PowerSlave isn't just straight up shooting(and it's more of a Hexen "clone", if you could call it that), it's a lot of exploring as well. You make your way through levels, find items that give you new abilities(jumping higher, breathing underwater, etc), then you use these abilities and go back through levels you've already been to, to get to new areas. It's quite a refreshing take on the same'ol FSP shoot-everything formula. :) As for the review, anything you'd like to do is fine. I don't have to own the game for you to review it(in fact, I don't own MoH: RS, which Gen contributed a review for in the B, H-A Xbox Section). SoF on DC is actually an excellent port...except for that fucking load time. Man, that is just killer. The game loads, multiple times, throughout the levels and for anywhere from 45 seconds to a minute and 30 seconds(no shit). I think it's because A) the game was rushed to be put out(it came out right around the DC's immenent death) and B) they really didn't tone *anything* down...what you are seeing is what you'd be seeing on the PC version of the game(they cut two enemies, that's about it). Still, before I had a PC, I loved, loved, loved SoF(even with the heavy loads) on the DC. Played through it, at least, 5 or 6 times... Bel |
