Immortal looks interesting. Before I'm sent off to the children's table, all I'm
saying is some of the stuff is disturbing. I've blasted Zombies, done countless
fatalities in fighters, gunned down armies of evil doers and blown up their family
homes after.
Just sometimes, it is a little too real, if that makes sense. I like my violence
a slightly fake. Like wrestling ;) Over the top cartoonish stuff like head
exploding and torso ripping is fine.

Xbox? WhatUtalkingaboutXbox? I think I'm retrogaming for the rest of my
"career".
1- I'm 32 in September. My next big purchase should probably
be a washer and dryer (can PS3 do permanment press?ahah)
2-Old games are cool, plentiful and cheap. The cream of the crop from
1989-2002 will keep me busy shopping and playing vids.
3- Great gameplay and good-enough graphics beat state of the art graphics and
so-so gameplay any day.
4- Did I mention cheap?
5-Yes, I'm a crazy cat but I ain't no pussy ;P

Amen, all hail SEGA.

I'd agree with you on the violence, the differences between over-the-top/cartoony stuff vs. the realistic gore you'll see in SoF, The Thing, The Immortal, etc.

In MK, nothing really tossed my stomach, it was all so over-the-top...but stuff in SoF, SoF II, Immortal, The Thing, etc. really do get me at times...it's just so nasty. A lot of times, especially in SoF II, I'll just sit there with my mouth open because I can't believe the realistic gore when you blow just their hands off, or something like that.

As for staying old school, more power to you. I am pretty much like that, with the exception of the Xbox. After the DC died I pretty much just gave up on the consoles, just didn't have much hope for any of them...but about a year or two later I started looking into the Xbox, and saw how it really was the sucessor to the DC. If you look at it, it almost seems like MS took everything that was great about the DC and just jacked it up the next level. If you can find one relatively cheap, you really ought to look into it at some point... :)

Yeah, it was sold separately at first, but now you can find it bundled with TOCA Race Driver 2 (another excellent racer).

you can probably still find it separate too.

That sounds like a good bundle. My current "bundle" like that is CMR2.0
and World Touring Cars (TOCA 2 sequel with a CMR2.0 engine and outrageous
crashes and car damage)
I'll report in with more killing news soon ;P
Cheers!

I liked the Sudan-Slaughter house levels. On to the missile factory. SOF
moment of the day- guy walks out of room, I shoot him, removing his left
arm and ventilating his chest. I check his room. It is a latrine, with a turd
floating in the bowl. So I shotgun it. John- "God, no amount of money is worth
this smell..." The turd sort of gibbed the room too.
SOF, kill people and play with easter egg shit.

Fun SOF fact- In the province of British Columbia SOF is considered an Adult
Movie (like porn). I guess some people in Victoria had nothing better to do
that day...

Yeah, the Slaughter House levels in Columbia are my favorite, I think. Sadly, that small bit of humor from John is about all you'll get out of him throughout the entire game. :( I thought it was pretty good though. ;)

Yeah, SoF and SoF II were banned in some countries, and in Germany, get this, the games were shipped in a special form *without* the gore. This is why when you're looking for patches for the game, there's always a "US Patch" and a "Germany Patch".

Japan, Holy Cats~! Shoot Yakuza, Ninjas, Terrorists,Everybody.
That helicopter is MEAN. But I'll fix him. Give me the heavy machine
gun and I'm mean too. I need to compose a poem to it...

Heavy MG.
You're for me.
Let's cause gore and misery.

I like the sound the ammo belt makes. It reminds me of Clint Eastwood's
spurs in Spaghetti Westerns. It sings of impending violence ;)

Heavy MG.
You got killing punch.
Let's make some shark lunch.

Well, so much for Iraqi nuclear program. Off to Germany soon. To a castle...
Now to mock the also-ran-guns, the microwave pulse rifle and the flame shooter.
They so completely suck. "Cooking guns" will never enter my home armoury darn it.

*feel free to contribute more FPS poetry folks* :P

Yeah, the sound effects on the Heavy MG are fucking great...but even better is the damn phoshorus grenade it shoots! Fucking-a, that thing really takes care of business.

I really liked the Yakuza stages, it's probably my second favorite of the lot...I really liked the QTVR-like city backdrop(especially when you're in the elevators and out on the ledge).

This is the level where you first get the microwave pulse gun. Holy shit...what that does to enemies shouldn't be legal...;)

The flame thrower is ok for levels where it's not particularly wide open(you're mostly in a confined space), but what really kills me about it is how much space it takes up in your inventory. On the PC version, I like to turn off the holding limit, so I can carry all of the weapons I find...but were I to play it regularly(like you have to on the PC), the flame thrower just takes up too much space. I do like how the secondary attack just makes people explode(literally) into flames. ;) One other note, anytime you see a guy with a flame thrower coming at you, *always* aim for the pack on his back(you can shoot it right over his shoulder even, when he's facing you)...cracks me up when they up in flames.

BTW, the castle is the final level...I'm sure you've probably finished it by now...if not, post, I can help you out with that final bit...

More poems- (work inspired me to think of non-work things, go figure)

Ode to the Kitty

Meow,meow,meow
Reow,reow,reow
Chow,chow,chow
now,now,now
Zzzzzz.....

Now my complete Soldier of Fortune ditty

Heavy MG.
You're for me.
Let's cause gore and misery.

It is me and Heavy MG.
We got caught.
By AI Bots.
Firing lots and lots of shots.

Heavy MG says listen to me.
Let's do a killing spree.
Rat-tat-tat, chop,chop chop
Arms and legs fly off those bots.
Now it's just me and Heavy MG.

We are free...

The END- OK, that's all I get? Not even a final death toll and $$$ earned figure.
I least I found out Hawk was famous, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0003817/
Michael Clarke Duncan. He's done a few games along with the movie career.
But serious- Mullins. Taylor. Jerky walkies to the Gun-mobile. Off to South America...

Getting to the end- It took trial and error but I figured out which computers
to shoot and planned out a good gunfight with Sergei and his boys. The answer
was simple, Heavy MG. I hopped on the sub deck quickly and used the mounted
gun as a little cover when Dekker walked in. We traded fire but I hit him more
often and harder. HMG=armor piercing for me :)
Then I killed him in the most stupid, contrived way ever. Better ending ideas-
1-Mullins just walks up and blows his head off.
2-Mullins sets a C-4 charge by Dekker and it frakking gibs him up as our
hero departs.
3-They both spring up and start singing Lucky Man by Emerson,Lake and Palmer
to put perspective on all the slaughter you witnessed in the game.

Final thoughts- SOF is darn fun for all its lost possibilities and odd cadence.
I'll certainly replay it one day. But not too soon... Time to lend it to a friend
and work on lighter gaming fare. I deserve a Crazy Taxi Break~!

The ending on the PC gives you a final total of kills and money, I guess they just left it out on the DC version. :(
