I decided to ban myself from Q3 a while. All the railgun zooming was making me nuts. I might decide to let that Xaero guy have his stupid castle... So I'm going to play Saturn. Today's preview- GT24, a racer This thing is very import friendly. Most text is English (99.9%). The controls are good too. Anyone who has played Daytona, Sega Rally, or STCC will be at home here. Technically GT24 is about as good as you can expect for the Saturn. The tracks look solid as the eyecandy draws in on the horizon. For those who hate having to memorize tracks there is handy Rally style pop up arrows. Your English- as-a-second-language crew chief helps out too. The racing is 24 hour in GT cars. You can turn that down to 12 laps and still see the all time of day effects. Night driving looks OK but the lack of any light sourcing dates the game a lot. Now the unique features- Fuel and damage. Yes kids you will have to pit in. But so will the other cars. Fuel is self explanatory but damage is different. Instead of abusing the polygons on your car, damage affects handling and speed. And just so you know things are serious spritely sparks and smokes will fly off your tires and mid-mounted engine. For fun I drove a car to death. It whined along at 100km/h for half lap then I got the big ~MACHINE BROKEN! "Game over" followed that in short order. Tracks- I saw 3 with the option to run them forward or reverse. All were driveable. Unlike some games Expert doesn't mean impossible or devoid of fun. Wrap up- this looks like a solid racer. Worth adding to your Saturn collection at the right price. The combination of driving and car management make it quite unique. Plus it is arcade playable and doesn't get too "simmy". PS- Bel, it is not frame-y ;) |

Played more GT-24. It may not look too flashy (that trademark Jaleco blandness) but in 24 hour race mode, compressed to 12 minutes you can have lots of fun. The arcade-ish Grand Prix mode is lame compared to this. A nice feature if you wanted a 24 minute or 48 minute race is you can switch drivers at pit stops so your pal can carry on with controller 2 while you water plants or have an ice cream break. Co-operation is good :) The game and the manual tease you with bitmaps of swimsuit ladies and cars. A-HA~! I thought. They might be civilized and have them in an Omake folder. Then I can admire them anytime and email them to Bel. Sadly Jaleco cheated me out of these treasures. Bad Jaleco. Thanks for the game tho' |

I really liked the arcade game, so this is one import that's on my list. |

You know what, now that I think of it...I'll bet this was the Jaleco racing game they used to have at the local GameWorks. It was in one of those huge deluxe cabinets, with a big-ass screen. I may have to look into this one... Bel |

It is a good racer by Saturn standards. The fuel and damage system add a lot to the gameplay. It is fun to set up a 12 minute- 24hour race and try to run all the laps you can. The short track is kinda lame but the medium and long tracks are cool. |
