Why do we play Mortal Kombat? I mean in terms of gameplay Street Fighter owns this series. Are we sick maniacs who thrive on ripping enemies in half and knocking people into pointy spikes? Have you ever knelt down to deliver an uppercut in a real fight? Is so did you enjoy getting brutally knee-fucked for it? My Kombat story- Grade 12. I was 17. An angry teenager. Why not play a game with blood and death? I played it some in arcades but mostly on Genesis at home later on. Those Genny ports may have been lacking to some people but I liked em! I'm sure on my dying day if someone set MK2 in front of me I could still do half the fatalities. For me MK3 was the last game worth spending money on. I bought UMK3 and MK4 and felt cheated. Let's not discuss the cash I put down for Sub Zero MK Mythology. I used to drink a lot in those days. Yah, there's a good excuse... Favorite MK stuff- MK 1,2,3 THE FREAKING PIT Johnnie Cage- people hate losing to this guy :) Baraka- cheap as hell with 2 neat fatalities. Fight fire with fire I say. Mileena- In my eyes Kitana is the fake dear... MK1 Liu Kang Sektor- I luv the crushie, crushie fatality MK2 Jax MK2 32X Sub Zero vs bosses a,b,a,c,a,b,b a good run-in combo... "Excellent" "Flawless Victory" "TOASTY" Rayden's hat |

I don't know that I'd agree that SF is the best fighter out there, but it's definitely got some solid gameplay. MK does as well, but it's quite different. MK is more about juggling, and finding new things to add to pre-made combos. MK1 had some cool tricks with the hopping kicks and whatnot. MK2 took that to the next level by adding juggling in there. MK3 took it even further by adding in the pre-made combos...then UMK3 improved slightly on that by adding in the jumping-in combo starter. MK4/MKG took a little bit from every other MK and put it together in, what I believe, is the best of the series. You've got your insane corner juggles, some decent pre-made stuff and a lot of speed. MK:DA and MK:D took away all of the jumping in combos and replaced virtually everything with pre-made Tekken-like stuff...which I don't mind...to an extent. Bel |

MK4?? Perhaps my 2D fighter bias is slipping in there. Still I found 4 sort of lousy. As 3D fighters go the Sega ones and Killer Instinct Gold are better (imo) Plus I found the weapon feature sorta gimmicky. It didn't add any fun either. On the positive I thought the bonebreakers were cool and that leg rip and beat down fatality made me laugh. re Street Fighter was the best fighting game series- OK think of a 2D fighter better than Street Fighter Alpha 2. It sounds pretty quiet out there... re Juggling- batting people around in the air is fun. I like Fan Lifting with Kitana and then letting the sucker drop so I can jump in with a roundhouse kick or an uppercut. Boom! |
