It is raining today. Hard. It is the kind of rain that sneaks past an umbrella and soaks you to your socks. I hate this rain. It makes me feel a cold, frustrated rage. So I jumped in the car to go game shopping. -First stop-post office, there Mr Ben had kindly left me Gekioh Shooting King and Tall Infinity. -then I raced out of town looking for non-raining places. The friendly folks at EB welcomed me and I hit the bargain areas. The "find" there was Demolition Racer ps1 for 6.99. I already have it but someone who doesn't should get it. Then I found Countdown Vampires for a British trading buddy. I hope he still talks to me after he plays it... Then I spotted Run Saber for SNES. Strider clones could be fun. Next was Mechwarrior 2 for PS1. I liked the word "arcade" on the back. Also I wanted to compare it to my Saturn mecha games like Gungriffon and Gundam Side Story Trilogy. I got some work shoes too. \) (/ This what my salesgirl looked like. I'm going to hell... Now it is time to play some games :) |

I go to a store an hour away once a month or so, and I hit the pawnshop once or twice a week. Nothing new really ever comes in, but I've lucked out. Can you say Steep Slope Sliders, Duke Nukem 3D, Resident Evil (SAT), a Saturn and a Sega CD memory cart for $3 a pop? WOW. |

Wow, rock on man! Speaking of Duke Nukem... Went to Wal-Mart last night, unfortunately, and saw that they had that Doom Collector's Edition set for $9.84(for PC). Went ahead and picked it up. Sadly, just as I had feared they didn't really change a damn thing about *any* of the Doom games...so mouse support still isn't there, nor any USB-based support. Not being content with getting fucked out of $10 and three of the best shooters of all time, I enlisted the help of DoomsDay. I must say, I like it...I like it alot. I will be going through all three Doom titles using this incredible conversion. Also, on that note, and back to the original talk of DK3D. Tried out JonoF's DK3d port this evening up here at work. Fucking nice. You know, I'm all for enjoying the classics the way they were back then...but shit, getting older games to run in Windows is fucking near impossible...so it's really nice that these apps not only allow the games to run, but add in stuff that we've become accustomed to with all the newer titles. I was going to pick up Quake IV SE today...but damn, now that I've managed to get Quake(well, glQuake), Duke Nukem 3D and the Doom Trilogy running on the PC....I think it'll be set for quite a bit. ;) Bel |

Just picked up The Suffering($9.99) and Red Faction($1.99) for the PC today...after I finish with Ultimate Doom, Doom II, Final Doom, Quake and Duke Nukem 3D, I may be able to get to them.

I broke down and bought Star Fighter 3000 for PSX online. It is supposed to be better than the 3D0 and Saturn versions. A British review said nice things about it. The fly around free and blast everything was the clicher. Apparently you can notch up the landscape and then fly on thru. I'm hoping it will be a spiritual successor to Shadow Squadron 32X (that doesn't cost 150 bucks) |

Well...it's true that you can shoot up the landscape...but it's not exactly "geo-mode-like"(Red Faction's gimick). You shoot the ground and perfectly square, burnt-looking texture replaces what was one green, or whatever. I think you can shoot hills and mountains down to flat surfaces...though I don't know if this is ever actually needed in the game. I liked it, and would get it at some point down the road... Bel |

Wow DJ. Did you rob a Sega bank? Be sure to post some impressions on Need for Speed :) Doing my daily news check online and saw Hybrid Wrestling, a Pancrase wrestling game for SNES-SFC. You can never have too much 2D wrestling... I played it on emu ages ago. The menu was clunky but the in ring action was fun. |

That's what I get for four years of collecting. It's been a long ride, and I'll be done with Saturn collecting next year, I hope.
:) I've never spent more than $20 on one Saturn game, but I'm going to buy a complete copy of Guardian Heroes because mine is loose and I hate that. Every other loose game is cheap enough, so buying second copies and selling the loose copies is no problem. Need for Speed is a pretty good port, but the loading times suck. The PC version is better mainly because the two extra tracks in the SE edition are the best tracks in the game, imo. The graphics aren't best but fine. |

A trading budy sent me Three-Sixty for PAL ps1. It is a combat racer from one of the worst game makers ever assembled. The CG looks nice as do the pics on the back cover. I'll have more on this thing later. |

Went to EB. Sad news, they no longer deal in Dreamcast games for trade. So no new supplies. Still they have lots of other stuff :) The contenders- I consider Driver 2, then check out the carts and see F-Zero for SNES. The horror of the day is a grungy cart of Top Gear Rally Overdrive for N64. 14.99 for a game with lousy graphics, damage effects, music and handling. No way. Then I spot my game. Original Need for Speed V-Rally. 6.99. I leave pleased with myself. Another successful mission (" |

I can see why, most of the used games there are crap, and in bad condition. My EB never had much good in the way of used games. A decent PSX title here and there, but nothing really stellar. And I'm eyeing selling my PSX in the future, maybe. Their SNES and Genesis games there are kind of overpriced. A store in some parts of NY sells most loose genesis games for $3.99 or 3 for ten. Not a bad deal. I should start on DC collecting really soon, I have 34 games and I have 85 or so on my want list. Grr... |

If your PS1 is in decent shape why sell it. Especially if it is a PS1. Get a CD-Xchange 2 boot disc system and you can be cheatin' and importing fool :) I can see why EB went out of 'Cast. The games age badly (as in go coaster). There is no excuse for lightly used Shenmue discs to fuck up as your hardware enjoys regular duty. A lot of Cast games hold up but some don't :( re-85 Why? There can't be 85 good Dreamcast games in the whole library US-Japan and PAL together. Do you just want a completed set? |

Wow, are you actually bashing the DC *in this forum*!?
;) Man, I could understand it if you were talking about the N64 or something(hell, 10 is a bit high in terms of quality titles for that sytem) but the DC!? Bel |

16bit, you'd be surprised at how many good dreamcast titles there are (and I'm just talking the US library). Sure there are the standard ones everyone's heard of, but there are a lot of forgotten gems in there too. Charge N Blast is a fun arcade blast fest. Chicken Run is a flawed, but still fun stealth game. Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm is a fine Action/Adventure game with RPG elements. It has a few framerate problems, but is overall quite good. Expendable is classic shootemup action. I-Spy: Operation Espionage is quite fun and unique (though it takes some time to get used to). Illbleed is my favorite survival horror game of all time. Maken X is an excellent first person "shooter" (shooter in quotes because most of your attacks are melee). Ooga Booga needs to be played in the less than stellar single player mode to unlock everything, but once that's done the multiplayer action is quite good. Pen Pen TriIcelon is silly, but quite engrossing at the same time. It's also bright and colorful. People like to hate on Soul Fighter, but I found its cheese factor to be a strength. It's actually a pretty good beatemup. I also liked Sports Jam, except for that creepy announcer. Super Magnetic Neo is one of the greatest 3D platformers of all time. I'd go so far as to say the US Dreamcast lineup probably has the best ratio of good games to bad, with the possible exception of the Virtual Boy (but the VB's lineup was less than 20 games, so it really doesn't count). Yes, there are the stinkers for the system (South Park Chef's Luv Shack, anyone?) but those are there on every system. When I finish my complete set (since I am going for one) I'll post a definitive list of what's good and what should have been put on sony's system instead. Is it coincidence that the Dreamcast has such an incredible lineup and that EA refused to develop for it? This benstylus doesn't think so. Having EA's blessing would likely have brought a crowd of other garbage developers to the system. I find it quite ironic that the Dreamcast's commercial failure contributed so heavily to the critical success of its games. |

Let's count the great N64 games that aren't readily available on other systems! Mystical Ninja starring Goemon Goemon's Great Adventure Blast Corps um... probably Sin & Punishment (though I haven't played it) Woohoo 4 it's a new record! (insert excitebike music here) |

re- Ben I count 13 good N-64 titles from my own collection that weren't available on other consoles. Enough to earn the thing its keep for me. re Dreamcast defenders- I'm sure the unemployed Sega hardware makers salute your valor. I'm not saying the system had a lot of bad games. But to get a collection of over 100 DC games would involve getting a lot of FILLER. Mediocre racers, quick and dirty PS1 port-ups etc. I like my Dreamcasts, all my controllers and VMUs and my keyboard :) I'm keeping them too. But I'm not going to swim a moat of lava and spend 5 bucks to get Slave Zero. Not just so I can say my Dreamcast collection is bigger. David would be better off putting some of that coin into his 2006 Charger fund. ;-) |
