I gave Rita her present from Santa. A pet relaxation music CD. She likes it best if you listen to it with her. Boxing Day sales were pretty crowded. I tried to get a copy of Burger Gear Solid aka Stealth King. I just ended up eating a warm sandwich made out of a beef like substance. : ( No more X-games at BK. That sounds nice. Anything to calm the kitty. ;)
You're not missing much. Playing them on the original Xbox is such a fucking hose-job, it's not even funny. We don't get them in anything but 480p, none of them are online playable, and then(and even the 360 owners get to share this "gem" with us) they all pretty much suck ass. The only one that's even remotely alright is Pocketbike Racers, and even then after you get done racing the 4 or 5 tracks it has, you don't want to go back to do it again in another series.
Pleasure Kitty has this one. The Xbox version has a widescreen mode...the PS2 version might as well...
Let us know how this one is. Bel |

A bit of shopping, a bit of gifts: Gifts: Titan Quest: DVD edition, PC. There's a reason it's known as "Diablo III", and honestly, since Blizzard can't be bothered to bring us D3, I'm happy about it. Condemned: Criminal Origins, PC. Creepy, creepy, creepy. FPS in the same vein as Chronicles of Riddick or King Kong... Shopping: Blockbuster is having a "25% off all used games" sale right now. They also have this one sign that says "Pick any two $9.99 titles for $15!" Taking 25% off is exactly $5...thus making the $20 games $15. :P Panzer Dragoon Orta, $5.25, case and disc only. I've got an older Xbox(sorry again Scott), so this runs in 480p for me, and it has a widescreen mode so you get quite a bit of viewing area. Some parts look fucking good, but then some parts look really bad. I noticed that with Sega GT 2002 and JSRF as well...I don't know what it is about them running in 480p that causes certain graphics to fluctuate with their quality. At any rate, the game is excellent, and I really enjoy switching dragon forms on the fly. Got my ass handed to me by the first boss though...it's been a while since I've played a Panzer game... The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, $7.50, case and disc only. Got it because A) it runs in 720p, B) because I hear so many people talk about just how much fun it is and C) I remember seeing a demo of it at at local EB Games. It's REALLY FUN. You go around and you destroy EVERYTHING you can get your green hands on. It is just insane the amount of carnage your wreak on those poor humans. Dragon's Lair 3D, $7.50, case and disc only. As one of the *6* Xbox games that runs in 1080i, I had to pick it up...I just had to. It's wild, all of the in-game animation looks like shit...but as soon as it gets to the in-game graphics it looks fucking amazing. The cell shading really does it's work here, it feels like you're moving around in the old Laserdisk-based arcade game. Unfortunately, the framerate has some issues, and the gameplay really sticks to the old "one bad move and your die" Dragon's Lair "gameplay" of yesteryear. Will put some more time in with it...see how it goes. Bel |

I have Roadkil, and it's not too bad. It's the open-endedness of GTA and the car-combat Twisted Metal mixed into one. The only bad is, that the graphics are kind of OK, and you can't get out of your car. It really reminds me of Redline, a very obscure, but awesome PC FPS. And it's very hard too, kind of like Redline. Damn, I think you'd love Redline too bel. Awesome, awesome game that was too short and too hard for most. Anyway, back to Roadkill, decent game, and the radio is the best part of the game. I think you'd get a big kick out of the radio part of the game, bel. |

Well, that's just me, but some people really do seem to enjoy the look. To me, something like S-Video on the Saturn, or SCART for the Genesis doesn't do a whole lot other than just make the graphical tricks or shortcomings more apparent as the developer never intended you to see the game running through a video signal like that. The Saturn, of course, always had the S-Video available but with its various methods on faking transparency, it just seems to me that the dev. was intending the game to be seen via a regular AV connection, thus masking the issue and making the game look a whole lot better. I'd imagine with SCART on the Genesis, a lot of the dithering is going to be a lot more visible, not to mention stuff like a lot of the more complex graphical effects will be less impressive as you'll see things that the original AV signal going to your TV hid. Again though, to each his own... :) Bel |

Sounds good. I will definitely give RoadKill a shot! Will take a look and see what I can find of Redline, maybe I can come up with a demo or something. Thanks, Bel |

Well, it was Christmas and my birthday is the day after so, I figured I needed to treat myself abit. The first two I even had made a pact to wait until they came down but went ahead and did it anyway. Yazuka (PS2 - $40 used): almost didn't get it because it was still $50 new but I have been itching to get it so...Overall, I really dig it, it definitely resembles Shenmue from a graphical standpoint, with kind of a soft focus depth of field thing going on alot of times. From a gameplay standpoint it definitely doesn't try to be some revolutionary FREE thing or something. Pretty linear, lights up your objective on the map, unlike Shenmue, very few people on the street can be talked to. Oh, if foul language bothers you, I would steer clear of this one too, I think the developers must of been watching cable TV gangster shows nonstop, it doesn't bother me but I wouldn't doubt it would turn some off because theres alot of it...more than GTA even. Its not a beat em up but the bits where you travel through the streets between story and mission parts from place to place almost seem like it. Its hard to run for 30 seconds without a group of bad guys wanting to mess up your face. It hasn't frustrated me too much yet but its frequent almost like an old school RPG so some may not care for that. I am really impressed with it, especially after being pretty underwhelmed with the demo. It runs abit clunky on the PS2, especially the frequent and long loads but nothing that kills it or anything. Okami (PS2 - $35 used): Pretty bad that Capcom closed down the developer Clover, evidentally because of poor sales of this aclaimed game. They also did Viewtiful Joe another of my favorites...I guess original games with style matched by none just don't rank with yet another MM Battle Network or terrible MM Xx game, huh? Well, I guess I'll still have Resident Evil. Even if your not a big adventure game player (like me), you really owe it to yourself to at least try this one...very worth the hype. I can't wait to play through this one. Call of Duty 2 (XB - $18 used): After all the rave reviews for this one I thought I would give it a try but haven't given it a spin yet. |

...and just where have you been?
;)
Ah, well, happy birthday! :)
You hear that they announced(and even have a trailer for) Yakuza 2? http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=3318
Hehehhe, still doesn't have anything on Scarface. My God, *every* word that comes out of his mouth on that game...;)
As long as it's not Lunar II or Skies of Arcadia-frequent, I could deal with it.
Would have been nice if Sega could have been bothered to port it to the 360 or something...
I think I've seen this one...but, of course, never played it. What's it all about?
I hear it's pretty good, so you should be alright with this one. Bel |

Today, I've realized that I am going to trim down my Dreamcast collection, and when I am done with buying college books, I am going to tackle the last seven games I want, and a new cardboard box for Alien Front Online, as it was damanged when I got it. The rest of the game is OK. Oh yeah, the last few pieces of hardware, a few VMU's and a couple of jump packs. But I think I can get some of the hardware locally, if not all of it. Anyone have a box for Alien Front Online? That's the hardest thing on my list. Everything else, it's just a matter of buying online. |

Okami is a trip, mostly because of the style, its 3d but it looks like a Japanese watercolor painting graphically, it even has a paper texture background...its just wonderful. I won't even attempt to go into the story but you play as Wolf that is in fact a God (you have to save the world...duh), but you have to quest to get your powers. Trippy part is instead of a sword you have this disc on your back and your specials you perform with a "Magic Brush", sounds retarded but its pretty cool...once you stun your enemies or have a puzzle in front of you, you kind of freeze time and make brush strokes on the screen, if you do them correct it does different things. Again it sounds dumb but it is pretty original, instead of rehashing time reversal or bullet time, its pretty cool. The story is great and based on real folklore. By helping people and animals along your quest along with kicking baddies asses you increase your strength and abilities. Its pretty heartwarming without being overly corny. One thing I do wish is that they could have used real Japanese voice with subtitles instead of the mumbling gibrish with subtitles. The mumbling is at least cute mumbling though. It bothers me even more with Yazuka not having Japanese voice, because if I'm not mistaken it was released first there so its not like there is none around. |

Went a bit crazy today with my $25 Amex gift card at the Blockbuster 25% off sale: (everything was $6.99, then 25% off making them around $5.25 or so except GV, which was $4.99 then 25% off that) Gun Spider-Man 2 Gun Valkyrie Run Like Hell Everything was around $21 after the discount and tax. Not bad. Haven't played anything just yet... Bel |

Master of Darkness (PAL Master System) $14 AU (about $11 USD) Complete. My first PAL Master System game. Thankfully the few titles I want will play fine on a US Console, well Power Base Converter. Some games, like New Zeleand Story, Prince of Persia, Back to the Future 3, and a few other awful titles work spotty, or not at all on a US system -- it's not region coding, it's the fact the games are picky about running at 50HZ. |

I went hog wild again, but it's okay because it's a new year and I don't intend to pay three times the cost for a console again this year. I figured I had to offset last year's bloated game costs by starting the new year out with a bang and a bunch of what I like buying best, cheap but good games.
;) I went to Trader's Village (some place in Houston where they play Tejano all day) and bought : Rescue Mission (Complete), Fantasy Zone: The Maze (Boxed) for the SMS, Quackshot (Boxed) and Sonic 1 (Euro, Boxed) for the Genesis ($21). I should get a couple of bucks for Sonic 1 in trade since it too has no parallax. I am also eagerly awaiting a shipment from a nice e-bayer from my hometown of St. Louis by the handle of "CHRISTYO420", from whom I bought: 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples (Complete, $4.31) for 32X, BC Racers (Complete, $17.27) and Prince of Persia (Complete, $6.31) for Sega CD, Alien Storm (Complete, $12.29), CADASH (Complete, $12.12), Streets of Rage 2 (Complete, $15.31), The Immortal (Complete {but not as complete as Bel's of course}, $12.31, RoadBlasters (Complete, $4.31) and Rocket Knight Adventures (Complete, $9.27) for Genesis. I also bought my wife some lovely blue Rhinestone jewelry I just couldn't pass up for the price ;). Finally, I found Battletech (Complete $2.32) for Genesis and R-Type Final (Complete, Store Credit) for PS2 locally. |

I've bought from CHRISTY0420 two times before, and she's a good seller! I got some other PAL MD games from her, and I would have gotten a third, but I already paid for my games, and my paypal ballance wouldn't have covered the third game, but if I had bought it, and combined shipping with my other purchased, I'd be able to buy it. Some of those game prices are making me scratch my head, but since you usually go for complete games, I guess that's OK. And I must be the only person who never had any complaints about GunValkyrie's controls. |
