Stopped by GameStop and picked up some $4.99 Xbox games, all complete: Blood Wake - Finally got it. I gotta say, as a launch Xbox game...it's about what I expected graphically(not that great), but those water effects are fucking cool. Only played the very first mission of level 1...it's not bad. Armed and Dangerous - Though I got it on PC years ago, I don't think I even finished the first level the entire time I had it installed. The mouse control was just WAY too sensitive and you could only tone it down to a certain degree. I remembered playing a demo of this on the Xbox and thought the control was pretty good. Picked it up and am loving it. It's a bit rough on the whole "checkpoint" thing, but other than that. One super crazy thing: The game features a widescreen mode, but get this, it's some sort of *really* widescreen aspect ratio like 2.40:1 or something...so you have letterboxes on your screen! Odd... Phantom Dust - On Scott's recommendation, picked it up. Popped it in long enough to make sure it works...the manual scares me...this look damn complicated. True Crime: Streets of LA - 720p goodness...the supposed "GTA Killer". So far it's alright...it definitely looks better and probably is a bit deeper, but man it's just got some quirks. I haven't played past the training missions though, so we'll see how it goes... Bel |

Taster's Choice

it's really not - building a balanced deck is the only thing that's really complicated - and since you are constantly getting new cards to put in it, it's only really a big hassle if you want to build one from scratch - otherwise it's just a matter of swapping one out for another. When you're actually in the game, it's pretty easy to play. |

I recently moved, my roommate has a rear projection HDTV i have my xbox hooked up to, I was thinking about getting some component cables for it to get the whole 480/720p thing going on. I looked online, I see that gamestop has the madcatz ones for 14.99. Is that a rip, good deal, etc? I had heard in the past that madcatz was a brand to avoid. I haven't had an xbox long, the one I have, I had modded, and use it more for watching tv shows i've downloaded on network shares on my pc than I do for playing games. |

Do *NOT* buy the Mad Catz component cables. They have incompatibilities with certain games. Just get the official MS HD AV Pack and then buy some component cables from Target or something. You can usually find a used MS HD Av pack at GameStop for less than $5...it won't come with the cables, but they're generally just $15 anyway. I lucked out, some idiot sold in his Xbox HD AV Pack at Blockbuster Game Rush...and *didn't* keep the component cables(it doesn't come with them)...and during a clearance I bought it for *$3*. I didn't even an HDTV at that point... What'll be nice for you is that with your modded Xbox, you'll now be able to upscale all of your media to 720p(including DVDs) if you're using the Xbox Media Center software. Games will still only run at whatever res they come in at, but dude, even just a 480p game looks fucking good. Wait until you see something like The Warriors at 720, or Dragon's Lair 3D or Enter the Matrix at 1080i... Bel |

Years ago, I was looking to buy a MINT Herc's Adventure, but it got sold... and it was going for next to nothing. I was going to go out today, but I'm looking at buying Ironman XO Manowar for Saturn, and the manual for Virtua Cop 2 for the Saturn. I own the Stunner bundle, and I miss the manual. :( |

I could live without the manual...but I can't talk too much smack as I am looking to try to pick up some Xbox manuals for games that have them missing right now.
;) I hear really bad things about Man-o-War...so be careful. Bel |

Hmmmm, I appreciate the input...this definitely makes me want to try it more than I did after seeing that manual. There's just something intimidating when you buy a game and the manual almost weighs as much as the damn Xbox(that one that comes with Shadowrun on Genesis had me in tears). ;) Bel |

I had the PC version of the game, and it wasn't too bad.... I didn't get the Virtua Cop 2 manual, but one will show up... I know someone who may have one. At least I know how it came bundled with the Stunner in the box. :) I have the Virtua Cop 2 w/ Stunner Package, and I just miss the manual for Virtua Cop 2. I thought the game came in a sleeve, not a jewel case. |

The VC2 manual is just a normal sized Saturn manual, unlike the VC1 which had the jewel cased-sized manual. Why Sega changed it from part 1 to 2 is beyond me. Bel |

I'm just glad it's in a regular jewel case with NO special insert or anything like that. Makes my life easier, so I can just buy the manual. |

From what I have seen there is no difference in cables, the Mad Katz ones are adequately shielded so there should be no problem. Mad Katz controllers and peripherals directly related to playing games are what you should avoid because they break in no time. I bought cables off e-bay that were also 3rd party ones for $6.50 shipped though. |

If you buy the Xbox AV Pack... Component cables aren't that expensive. All you can get locally is Monster Cable at most stores. However, I did manage to get some Philips Component Cables at Lowes for $10. Biglots was out. And they have Component Cables made by TriQuest for $5.99 they where out, so I had to buy the farm. |

My main problem with the Mad Catz cables, beyond the fuzzy picture a lot of people report, is the fact that they don't appear to have an optical audio output. They are simply the cables, they go from the back of the Xbox to the TV. There's no box in the middle, like the official Xbox HD AV Pack, that has the optical audio output for 5.1 sound. Now, granted, not everyone needs that...but I don't think a lot of people realize that it's just not there... Bel |

...I find that hard to believe coming from someone who has to have his Genesis video output a a *minimum* of SCART.
;) Have you even seen the Xbox in 480p? Bel |

Well, I didn't know squat about component and the HD AV pack when I got my Xbox... I thought there where just cables, not a box, and then you have to buy component cables on top of that. My Sega consoles don't play second fiddle to my other consoles. |

Got Master of Darkness in the mail... see my thread on why Australian MS games suck. I think Man-o-War mailed out. I got some fun out of the title when I played it on the PC. If you don't expect the world... it's a OK little game. |
