Gonna take you for a ride
I returned Fake Hitman 2 aka Contracts.
Using part of the credit I got Painkiller Hellwars for XB.
I picked up Doom 3 too.

Game of the moment is CMR 3. It is good. Most of the cars
are lousy but a well tuned Focus or a Lancer EVO are fun
as heck to race. It is superior to the first Rallisport Challenge
by far but not as feature rich as CMR04
old school!

PainKiller is ok, I liked the expansion pack more than the original game(I hate to be one of those people, but I just did). Still, the original game is still alright. I've never played the Xbox version, but it took long enough to come out, so I'd like to think they put some real effort into it.

Doom 3, on the other hand, is excellent. Though it's about the same as the PC version running at 640X480 and hovering somewhere between Low and Medium quality settings, it's still great. Take your time with this one, really get into it, read the story, the PDAs, etc. Do it in the dark too...;)

Well, I finally did it.

I bought a Genesis Six Button Arcade Stick, and a SMS pad.

Bought Asterix for the Master System. Now I just need Ninja Gaiden, so I can relax from MS for a while... with my Pad on the way and all. :)

Damn fine PAL only game that won't set you back more than $10 shipped. The second one is almost as good, and the third one is OK, but very rare and expensive, so don't bother.

Ran into a retro shop that had SNES controller extension cords for $2.95 a piece! Fucking-a, bought two of the three they had. Fuck those rapists on ebay.

Also managed to get a new Xbox Live Headset, a third party model from Plantronics. I really like it. It was used, lightly, and was $9.99. I cleaned it heavily before sending harassing messages to Scott, who apparently left his 360 on ALL NIGHT. ;)

So I found a DAMN GOOD deal on a RGB SCART splitter, so I made a under the table deal with an ebay seller, so for $10.85 I took a risk on a Mad Catz RGB Switcher which I have heard works 100%.

It was so damn cheap, I took the risk.

Needed a couple of accessories for the old Genny 2, so I ordered them off sega-parts:
Genesis 2 Stereo A/V cable, $19 NIB
Genesis 6-Button Controler, $12 NIB

I was wondering what style the 6-button controller would be (there seems to be several, some of which I don't like very much) because there was no picture and not much of a description on the site. It was a real basic one, Saturn style buttons (concave ABC and convex XYZ), no shoulder buttons, no mode button and no turbo.

Wait, *no* Mode button!? Argh, there are going to be certain games you won't be able to play with that pad. :( Still, you have some 3 button pads right?

Good to see you on the forums again! :)

It has to have one... it's on the front side of the controller.

I'm telling you guys, it doesn't have any mode button at all. The only buttons it has are the A-Z buttons, six of them. Seriously, I think they are like six different models of the six button controller Sega came out with. I get the model number off of it when I get home; it also came with manual, it listed maybe 10 games that it didn't work with...Secret of Ooze, Trouble Shooter, etc.

Oh, of course I have some three button controllers but you have to have a 6 button controller for Street Fighter!

Oh, I don't question that it doesn't have a Mode button, I've seen a few third party 6 button pads that don't have one myself. I was just making sure you had a backup for the game that won't work with it. :)

Yeah, there are some games that simpy won't work...but a lot of them consist of early Genesis titles like Forgotton Worlds or Golden Axe II. I had no idea some of the newer stuff like Trouble SHooter or Ooze wouldn't....hell, they came out *after* the six button pad was out. ;)

Indeed...but don't worry about *any* fighting game not working with the 6 button pad...I've yet to come across one that won't. ;)

I think it might be the last official Genesis controller they came out with, it has the *exact* same buttons and d-pad as the Saturn's second version of its controller. I really like it, I think I'll get another one and maybe pick out a NIB game too. The shipping wasn't too bad...three days.

I think it was kind of an assortment of earlier games and some EA stuff...I'll post it later when I get home.

That's wild! Is it an official Sega-made controller? I remember Majesco putting out some controllers with their Genesis 3 units.

From Sega-Parts, that's fucking amazing! Man, everytime I order from them it takes, like, three weeks to get the package. Ugh.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the early EA stuff. Most of that won't work without the Mode button being held down. Thing is, maybe Sega made a final revision of the 6 button pad that automatically "modes" itself back to three buttons based on the game...it's a possibility.

Give me the model number and I'll do some digging. That is very odd.

http://ourworld.cs.com/airbikecop/controller.JPG

Right where that arrow is, there should be a mode button there. List the 10 games it doesn't work with. I'll try Trouble Shooter.

David, your right, there is a mode button but its not that obvious. The model number is MK-1653. Its at least Sega liscenced, it came in the same Red and Black style box the cable in, and its stamped Sega, the model number and "Made in China".

Oh, here's the stuff from the manual: "Some older games may not play correctly when Arcade Pad is connected. For most of these games you can correct the problem by pressing the Mode Button on the Arcade during startup. Here's how:"..."Note: Be sure to follow the steps above when playing Arch Rivals, Exile, Forgotten Worlds, Golden Axe II and Ms. Pac Man"

Then it says this:

"The games below are not recommended for play with the Sega Arcade Pad: Air Diver, Aliens 3, Clue, Decapattack, Double Dragon 2, John Madden Football, Jordan vs Bird, Pit-Fighter, Slime World, Stormlord & Trouble Shooter"

I think I must have been thinking of Slime World when I posted Secret of the Ooze. Anyway, I took a look and I'm really glad I got this pad, I don't like the one with the switch on it, its smaller and the buttons don't seem as good.

Ah yeah, Slime World seems more realistic. The Ooze was a Sega-made game, one of the last for the Genesis, one would assume it'd work with the 6 button pad. ;)

I love how it lists Double Dragon II...you know, as it never made it out of Japan and all. ;)

I know the pad you're thinking of, it's like super-small right? I don't much care for that one either.

The Japanese version of the Offical Six button pad is a lot smaller than the US one.

Yeah, that super small one sucks real bad.

Both the pad and the cable came with a little brochure from 1994. It advertises the Mega Mouse (Mansion of Hidden Souls & Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye), Team Player (and a bunch of sports games including NBA Jam, quote from brochure 'BOOMSHAKALAKA') and best of all the Activator (Streets of Rage 3, Mortal Combat CD and Eternal Champions).

Anyone have what I would have to guess is the misfortune of playing a game with the Activator?

Oh, lord no...I've never even known anyone who has had one. The only time I've ever seen it...and this was just sort of the arcade version of the Activator, was over at GameWorks. They had Tekken 3 set up on it...it was more sad than funny to watch people try to play it on that thing...

Ha! Funny thing about this ad, it showed this kid doing this straight legged kick and in the background, a TV with Mortal Kombat on it showing Johnny Cage doing a Shadow Kick. I was like "Yeah Right"! ;)
