Traded in Rallisport Challenge and CounterStrike today. No RS2 to be found anywhere! Rats. I eyed a few games like Raw 2 (but new wrestling sucks!!), Project Gotham 2 ( I want car damage!), CMR 3( I want to be me. Not Colin...) and some WW2 titles. I settled for Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance. I just need to see what all the bad press is about. So the stash stands at MGS2S, CMR 04 (worthy!!!), Crimson Skies HTR (fun blaster) Unreal C, HALO 2, SOF2, Shenmue 2 and SH2. Good grief, it is the all sequel collection ;-). Some titles I might try later are 007 Nightfire and Burnout 3 (if I can get into 2). Later kids and cats :) |

Well, I'd like to yell at you for getting MGS2...but you know, when I got my Xbox, I went out and get MGS2 as well...and people yelled at me...;) Trust me...you're going to find out why it's widely considered the absolute biggest disappointment in videogaming history. ;) Burnout 3 is pretty hip, I just like how fast is moves and how arcade-like the control is. Well it is MGS2 or Splinter Cells for Stealth Action on Xbox. I hear 'Cell is really punishing. If I want frustration I'll start dating again or take up golf ;-) |

That's true, though it's more of an arcade-like stealth title...but it's probably one of my favorite games of all time(the Xbox version of it, that is). Bel |

The online co-op on that game was so fucking good too. Scott H and I must have gone through it 20 times. Deathmatch is a lot of fun too. Bel |

Tenchu got some lukewarm reviews. Sad to hear the series is still plagued by PS1 camera syndrome. I enjoyed the original game until level 3. Then the magic was gone. I just cheat to beat the darn thing. The higher levels didn't impress me. Not a game but I recommend the " 365 Cats- Page a Day Calendar". Good desk top pad with kitty goodness. I started to play MGS2S but got called into work. The intro does look sweet and the music is excellent. The option to have active radar when you are detected is a kind move toward newer players. So far it has been less disappointing than CounterStrike ;-) |

The reviews mostly pan it due to the fact that it was pretty much a straight PS2 port. That's true to a point....in that a lot of the models and textures look very PS2-ish, but at the same time, a lot of textures look much, much better...there are two new levels, a few new enemies and online multiplayer. It's an excellent title...I didn't have any issues with camera, I had more issues with the control...but only because it was my first ever try with the Tenchu series. Once I got into the groove, it was all very nice. Bel |

mgs2s update- I try to play but there seems to be a 5 minute cutscene at the end of every hall. I kind of understand poor Snake's problem. Being "engineered" he was built for performance not old age. That said for MGS 4 or 5 they should prop him up with nano-machines and cybernetics because the series seriously needs him. Raiden-I can see the idea. Let the "player" of the NES and PS1 games into the Metal Gear universe as themselves. That might work if the guy could shut up and stop exposing himself as the biggest knob since Squall in FF8. Let ME speak with my PLAY in the game. In FF8 I got to be "Nick" more than Squall so it was less grating. Stealth Action games shouldn't have the pacing of a text adventure. Actually Snatcher and Policenauts gave you more a sense of doing stuff than this game. At least I could choose to talk to people. I may have been moving down the concrete storyline but I could feel the steps. I hope the next Substance report is more positive. If not this game is EB bound... |

Didn't you B guys say nice things about Vanishing Point? (the lame games, not the cool movie) More MGS2S ranting- why Hideo why? MGS1 was cool. It was a folk legend/morality tale thrust into the modern age. Did the brains at Konami think we were too stupid to get the point of the last game and decide to slow it down for us? Yep, Snake was cool and he was killer but he had surprising moral depth. He was old enough and clever enough to have doubts. Maybe Hideo decided to only open his fan mail and feedback from the mentally curbed and unbalanced 9-14 year old MGS fans? Perhaps he was responding to comments like- " Hi Mr Kojima. Im Bill. Solid Snake is da bomb. But he needz to have a chainsaw and a rocket launchr in the next game!!!! Less sneakings too! Snake needs a fuckin M600 maceen gun! Plz rite me back. Bill. " Time to heat some supper and game away my evening. |

For Vanishing Point, I said that while the control was wonky, it was pretty fun if you could get used to it. Also, I spoke only of the Dreamcast version though - verer tried any others. One more caveat - you have to unlock a few things before it really starts to pick up... |

Ok... At least we still both like CMR 04!
:) In my last season I was #2 driver for 4WD and we won the manufacturers title (Citroen). I might defect and challenge Colin with a different team next time. If I can find a good tuning balance on the other cars. My cars get mauled pretty bad in the Finland rallies but overall my driving is getting better. But watching the doors fly off is half the fun, err right? MGS2S- Stillman has died. One less person to chatter in my Codec I say! The first person mode deserves some praise. The iron sights on the guns are actually useful. A plus. I have yet to give hand to hand combat a good run. Easier to sleepy dart people and then execute them with the silenced Socom. |
