Soul Reaver 2 (WIN) $23.99 unfortunately. At least it had better run really well on my system, better than it did with all that motion blur, nondescript textures and aliasing on the PS2 anyway. |

Good deal. Prepare yourself though, it's not even remotely as easy as it was on the Saturn. They whip some real ass in the PSX version...I dig it. Bel |

Got Devil May Cry 4 on wednsday. My GOTY so far, but it's still way to early to call it. Side note: I'm pissed at Call of Duty 4 because now every other FPS feels at least a little bland by comparison. |

Omikron: The Nomad Soul for Dreamcast. I am seriously impressed with this game so far, aside from the obvious sloppy port issues that is. This game really does have everything GTAIII had two years later, they just didn't smooth out the loading between game types as well. On the upside, when Omikron is loading between segments, we're talking about fractions of seconds in delay. While GTAIII has that huge load time at the start, Omikron never makes you wait for anything. Between this, Shenmue I+II, and Crazy Taxi 1+2 I am absolutely convinced that sandbox games would have been right at home on Dreamcast. |

Agreed. I'd like to pick up the PC original as the DC versions looks to have been slightly censored...but not in the way that they didn't want to allow the content, rather they just didn't have the memory to load the content.
I'm assuming you're referring to my post about it a while back?
Yeah, it's a really impressive, hugely underrated game in my opinion. Assuming you can dig up the post, I think 16bitman and I talked a bit about it...or it's possible it was on RGVS, with someone else. My first thoughts on it were: Wow, this is GTA, before GTA had even hit. I was just so thrown back by that. The game could use some work in the gameplay dept. but I still feel it's worth the time to play in to a bit. I stopped, at some point, but will go back and finish it some day.
I think they could have been done, but the areas would have been a bit smaller and have less varied textures. Now, it's important to note that I am basing this on my time with the *Xbox* versions of GTA, rather than the PS2 versions. ;) Bel |

I'd say that any and all "cuts" they made in the DC version were caused by their uber lazy porting policy rather than the hardware itself. This game is clearly not optimized for Dreamcast, I'm just interested in the fact that it is essentially GTAIII 2 years earlier, and without the pedestrian mayhem.
I guess so. I couldn't remember who all talked to me about it, but I do remember it coming up several times over the years. This game basically proves what I was saying GTA III on Dreamcast would be like. Smaller environments on Dreamcast can easily be fixed through its extremely fast load times.
I agree. If GTA III didn't let you run over helpless pedestrians I'd go as far as to say that the popularity of the two titles would have been very similar.
Uh, yeah, the Xbox versions have much longer draw distance, faster initial load times, better textures and better framerates over the PS2 originals. The Dreamcast could have done much better than the PS2 in close up detail, but probably would have needed some streaming load segments like Omikron uses. It wouldn't have made any difference to gameplay but the "amazing" cutscenes would have looked much better on Dreamcast. |

Though I'd agree, to a point, that it's an obvious port from the PC I will say that I chalk some of it up to the fact that it was an early DC title as well. I'd have to see more of the PC version to get a better idea of what all is missing(right now I've just watched movies of the PC version, I think the Omikron site is still up if you're intersted).
It's wild, isn't it? Once I made it past the initial fighting to the city, I was just blown back.
I think it's a representation of what GTA could have been like on the DC, but I'd have to play more in to it before I could call it proof.
Yeah, that's true...plus, they could probably stream the data in there like so many PSX games started doing about mid-way through its life. IIRC, Crystal Dynamics was the first company to start doing that. They are *such* a good development house. I pine for Gex 4 constantly...
You know, IIRC, I think that Omikron either had a sequel or is the sequel to something on the PC. I need to look in to that, we may yet find another tech gem.
Yeah, that's what I heard. When Gen would come over and see me playing either one, he was always amazed, he said, at how many more cars, people and other stuff the Xbox version allowed for over the PS2 original. He said that most times you'd only see two or three cars on the screen at once. That really blows.
It'd of been interesting if Rockstar even would have started on an alpha build of GTAIII on DC...just to see what it would have looked like. Bel |

I swapped Beggar Prince for Valis III on Turbo CD. I think I also failed to mention earlier that I landed a good deal on Astro Warrior and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego for Master System, Shining Force and Centurion Defender of Rome for Genesis, and Legend of Oasis for Saturn all complete. Some of these I've been wanting for years, and kicking myself for not grabbing them the last time I saw them. Now I'm glad I waited. $40 for all of this was a friggin steal, but my collector friend was being nice to me. |

I've got the Master System Carmen Sandiego as well - it's mostly the same as any other version, except having to dodge a bullet or two when you're about to catch the crook. Good times. |

I've picked these up over the past few months: Lego Star Wars Complete (Fun, but maybe too simple.) Naruto: Rise of a Ninja (Didn't like it, but Ministlkr did. It's now his birthday present.) House of the Dead 2 & 3 (Besides no free play, good times.) Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword (The difficulty is so much more tolerable, but why no new game+?) Nanostray (Meh.) Jade Empire (Good, but a litle repettitive.) Def Jam Vendetta (What was wrong with this EA? Not a damn thing!) Shadow of the Colosus (One of the more interesting games I've played in a while. I'll play more after this damn semester is over.) SSX Tricky (My favorite of the series.) Tekken Tag Tournament (Sold it like a dumbass, then rebought it after realizing how much I loved it.) |

I spent more hours playing the bowling after I unlocked it than the regular game
I tried to play this one through being an evil character after beating it as a good character, but got bored in the first area listening to my party bitch about me being evil. |

Yeah, it's a *really* dumbed down engine from SW: Jedi Power Battles. It's cute and all, but just tends to be overly easy(except for the racing/flying/driving parts. Fuck that shit is hard!)
Is this the one that came out on the Wii?
How about that awesome framerate? ;) Bel |
