Picked up Daytona Circuit Edition and Virtua Fighter Kids (Complete, Import) for $21.48. After it arrives in the mail I will probably have a variety of media up for both within a week.

Battlefield Bad Company- it sounded like a jacked up version of
Fuel of War so I decided to take the plunge.
The new Bourne game sounds fun but not pay full price fun.
The video package on screen at EB for Alone in the Dark is neat.

Just as a friendly reminder: You do realize that all 360 owners are given a complimentary, and free, Xbox Live Silver account, right? I mean, you can download demos for free, you don't just have to buy games and pray. :)

Wow, the Lynx game actually scales the characters.  I had heard that the Lynx had scaling capabilities but this is the first I've seen it in action.

Have you never played "Wing Arms"(I think that's the name)? That game is, essentially, the "PilotWings" of the Lynx. By that, I mean it's simply a demo for the system's scaling abilities. I used to have it...it was alright.

Quote:

As for the Genesis version, it's basically a good game it just doesn't replicate the look and feel of the arcade game.  I think of it like many other arcade conversions that saw the characters shrunk and sound scaled down.  I like them all, but I also like the arcade versions.  The Genesis version beats the living hell out of the Snes game at the very least.

I just never cared for the arcade version...I don't like how the screen ratio seems to be vertical rather than horizontal. So odd.

Quote:

(edit)

I played the Genesis version a little on the Nomad and it plays a ton better than the Lynx version.  This is mostly due to the superior design quality of the controller itself, but the animation in the Lynx version isn't as fluid as the Genesis game either.

Well, the Lynx version was, what, probably 4 megs or some shit?

Tried a Goodwill store by where I live, have heard that people come up with all sorts of wild stuff there...

Not that great, imo, but I did manage to get a USB Flight Stick, and though I *hate* flight simulators, I thought it might be great for MAME games(can't wait to try Galaxy Force II with it!). It was a whole $1.98...

Found some weird PSX game called "Rush Down" for $1.99...jury is still out on that one.

Finally, found a PSX for Pleasure Kitty, for a paltry $5.99. It was dirty as fuck, and it working was questionable...but they accept returns so I gave it a shot. Sure enough: It worked. Cleaned it up with some Clorox wipes and it looks brand new. Not too shabby.

re Bell and LIVE

I just haven't found the time or energy to play LIVE. LIVE to me-
I fear it would be walking into an arcade 1988-1994 and having
your ass kicked by some loud ace who hops into your Mortal Kombat
session uninvited.
Xbox's strongest feature is co-op. More games should be forced to have it.

X360 in general- I've culled a lot of my games lately. I think I'm going to start
ignoring reviews. Bad Company has rated 8.5 to 9.5 professionally. Get real.
I played it, I beat and I never want to play it again. The game doesn't even
have a worthwhile fucking ending. The multiplayer games are useless unless
you are LIVE.... Seriously- would it be so hard to have a few maps and some
bot battles to fight for the Gold? Why is gaming going backwards from the
Unreal T Dreamcast era?

At this rate my 360 is going to end up with a very small stack of games and
sit very quietly as the last modern game console I will ever buy. The PS3
is in a position no better.
Games are supposed to be fun. They should not be tech achievements geeks
applaud with less useable shelf life than a stalk of celery. I can't imagine even
kids are impressed by the current game crop. It sucks period.

Bullet Witch (Complete, with poster) $16.48. I really enjoyed this one when I borrowed it. That's the number one reason I buy any game.

One X360 game I can reccommend with a straight face to anyone is-
Earth Defense Force 2017.
The graphics are pure Dreamcast and you control a weird waisted plastic
EDF trooper but heck, blasting over the top aliens and giant bugs so fun.
Classic EDF moments-

Seeing giants ants crawling on a Japanese high rise and then knocking this
building down with a rocket to kill those ants.
Rag-ant-physics~!
Unlimited ammo- just reloading
Cheeseball voice acting at its best.
Battling Giant Robots and Flying Saucers with a M-16, just like in real life ; )

EDF seems quite long but you can save and break the war into your busy work
schedule. For pick up and play joy it is far better than COD 4 and its fucking
grenade indicator and geeky Commando language. Note to Lt. Vasquez-
I don't know what an IR locator spocator looks like. YOU find it and shove it.
Quit yelling at me in your angry Hulk Hogan voice. Also- give me some
breeching charges or special door knob gripping gloves so I can open
my own doors and navigate this game. I've played rail shooters that made
me feel more free.

Well, here's the thing, and it's what I think you're missing: The Xbox Live Silver account that you get, for free, allows you to *only* view the marketplace and download demos, movies, etc. You'd need a Gold sub to actually play someone. This is why I'm mentioning it though: There are craploads of demos on the marketplace, and again, they are free, you just simply plug your 360 in to the internet and away you go.

You will not believe how freeing that really is. Even a hip mag like GameFan, when they'd bash something I'd go in expecting it to suck...which was wrong, but I also gave the game the benefit of the doubt and at least an hour of play before calling it. Once you give up listening to the "professionals", get back to basics and get some thoughts on usenet and forums, you'll find a lot more titles open to the possibility of being decent games.

I kept meaning to tell you that Wal-Mart has this for about that price(is that where you go it?). I've always thought it looked pretty hip. Don't forget: There are a few uniforms you can get on the Marketplace, for free, that change her appearance.

My buddy Wang hooked me up with some stuff this weekend:

Xbox:
Shenmue II - What can I expect, extra, over the DC version?
Otogi - I have part two, but I hear this one is better.
BloodRayne - I have part two, but this one is still ok.
Headhunter: Redemption - Sequel to my all time favorite DC game.

Sega CD:
Revengers of Vengeance - As bad as it is, I kind of dig it.

Game Gear:
Game Gear Unit - Possibly working, there are some issues with the power port.
Land of Illusion - Finally complete the trilogy.
Sonic the Hedgehog - Actually better than part 2.
Master Gear Converter - It's so nice to have one of these again!

Saturn:
Nights into Dreams Sampler - Before you get too excited, it's the exact same thing as the X-mas Nights disc, just without the presents, or X-mas theme.

PC:
Toshiba HD DVD Rom - Fucking bad-ass! I can finally get some screenshots and start up my HD DVD section!

re Sega CD:
Revengers of Vengeance-

A thin Street Fighter clone with RPG style shopping for powerups and
some shooterish side missions. It wins big points for being unique.
I saved the world with the elf chick once. It could do with a remake.

I actually somewhat enjoy it. The combo system is kind of there, so the three hit jump ins actually make it kind of fun. I've only done the "Tournament" thing so far, haven't done the RPG mode yet.

How about that fucking Rino!? Christ, it's the "Juggernaut" of the 16 bit consoles!

Sadly, it's 4:3 too...which is depressing, but at least it's 480p, unlike Headhunter: Redemption(480i, I about passed out).

Blockbuster is having a BOGO sale on any video game $14.99 or under. This includes virtually every system except the Shitstation 3.

I picked up ManHunt and Hunter: The Reckoning for Xbox, for $6.99(got the other free).

Will be interested to try MH, I've heard so much about it...

The other pallet swapped ninja
Universe at War: Earth Assault

$6 at Big Lots. I'm back home in NY, and I didn't see a big lots in the DC area, so I picked it up.

CRAZY! The game came out in december, and got decent reviews, but for $6 I couldn't say no. I know Sega published it.

I picked up Turning Point: Fall of Liberty for $7.48 at Target. It had really interested me, and the 360 demo was awesome...but sadly, like so many developers nowadays, they couldn't be bothered to release a demo for the PC, so I had no idea if it was going to run or not. For $8, I tried it...and it did run.

Sadly, I beat the game in under 4 hours. I about passed out. If I had paid $40+ when it came out I'd be on a plain to the UK, to beat the fuck out of the team at CodeMasters.

It's a great game, and using the Unreal Engine 3, it looks amazing...but man, so fucking short.

Soul Calibur IV -yes, it's the PS3 version, sue me.

Once again, the tale of swords and souls, eternally retold- let's just begin.

What's it about?
It's about a kick-ass fighting game, that for somereason thought it would be cool to play comercial bitch to George Lucas and some japanese character artists that no one can remember/ care about. Oh well, as long as it doesn't mess up the game any (thankfully it doesn't for the most part). It's also has finishing moves that you won't be able to use most of the time, it kinda reminds me of Eternal Champions where if you pulled it off, you were lucky.

Graphics
Excelent- from backgrounds to character models, it just looks fantastic and moves at a good speed as well. Sure some of the character model look ass-retarded or over done (in armor and lady parts ;)), but most of it's kinda cool.

Sound
Standard Soul Calibur fare for music and sound. Voice acting seems to have improved for the englsh actors a little.

Controls
Plays fine on the PS3, although it feels a little wonky at times. Not sure why.

AI
All over the place. The only part of the game you can adjust the difficulty for is individual versus matches against the computer. The story mode is suprisingly easy, while the arcade mode is chalenging and sometimes a little on the cheap side. I haven tried the tower mode yet.

Replay Value
Like customising characters and online play, then you'll play this for a long time. Tower mode and individual story modes should pique your interests as well.

Tips for better gaming expreience
Just know that you can't bullshit around with the arcade mode like you can on the first Soulcalibur. The A.I. is nowhere near as bad as it is in DOA4 though, so if you're skilled and come in with a game plan, you should be fine.

Extra info
Vader and Aprentice are fine and don't break the game at all. Yay! I can't speak on behalf of Yoda though. (Edit: Nevermind, apparently Yoda does indeed fuck the game up like Gon. That's just great.:() The story mode contains tag tem play, but for some reason, you can't do it any where else in the game. Too bad, it could've been cool.

My rating
Don't know yet, but it will most likley be in the 80s for me as I can't for the life of me figure out why they won't let you change the difficuly in arcade mode. It's still great, and if you like SC, give it a shot.

Strider 2 for... I can't remember. What's up with the discs? The Strider 2 disc is Strider 1 and Vice-versa. How can you fuck that up. No wonder I never found Strider 2 at rental stores, they're throwing away the actual game their trying to rent. I think I'll be reviewing this one down the road.
