Picked up Sonic Unleashed for $30 but too scared to open it. It's not a big loss if it isn't up to snuff since it's the inferior version and if I was employed, $30 wouldn't even mean much of a loss to me. But still... :( |

Sonic Unleashed will be a tough one. With Blockbuster's unbelievably high rental prices, you end up paying a third of the game's asking price just to rent it. If you buy it, then you're out of the full $30...but there's that slight chance that it could be alright. I don't know what to tell you...other than maybe wait to see what others have to say(no professional reviews mind you, but other *real* people). Bel |

Oh, okay, yeah since the downscaled PS2 versions are using dithering more and more, I'd say it's not even worth that. |

Though there was some naughtiness last night with buying Iron Man for $9.95 at Family Video, I feel I have redeemed myself by trading in a shitload of my GameTZ stuff and getting the following: 1. Tiny Toon Adventures - Buster Busts Loose(SNES) - A really liked this one back in the day, when I owned a SNES, let's see how it's aged... 2. Gran Turismo(PSX) - If someone has, or sees the DC Bleemcast! pack for this, sell it to me! This is the only reason I have bought the game...I hate it. 3. New Legends(Xbox) - Supposedly one of the worst Xbox games out there...but shit, it was only $0.50! 4. MX World Tour(Xbox) - Runs at 720p...enough said. Also $0.50. 5. ESPN Extreme Games(PSX) - A launch PSX title. Brings back so many memories. Again, $0.50. 6. Centurian: Defender of Rome(Genesis) - Old school EA strategy title. Can't wait to try it! 7. Columns(Game Gear) - Only had Super Columns, and that game is WAY too hard to be enjoyed. I remember owning Columns back with my first GG unit...loved it(as I do no matter the system it's on). 8. Wave Race 64(N64) - I have decided that racing is the only genre worth owning(or playing) on the N64. Used to have this one, with my first N64, decided to grab it again. Wish it had more tracks. 9. Extreme G(N64) - Love the Xbox version, and as it's a racing game, I'm sure it'll be pretty good on the N64. 10. Extreme G2(N64) - Same here. 11. Zero Divide(PSX) - Old school PSX fighter, with robots. It's really pretty good, IIRC. Long box! 12. NHL Hitz 2002(Xbox) - Got this for Pleasure Kitty...she loves hockey. Only $0.50 too! I didn't pay a dime past what I traded in(for all that)! Alright, there may be a slight bit of more naughtiness when I return an item later tonight...but I promise it won't be too bad! ;) Bel |

Ok, a slight bit of naughtiness occurred when I returned an item I had bought last night: I used the credit from it to take advantage of a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" deal. Here's what I got: 1. F-Zero X(N64) - Um, WOW this is AWESOME! I think I will definitely put some time in to searching out the Sega-made F-Zero for the GC(and play it on the girlfriend's Wii). 2. Mace: The Dark Age(N64) - It runs like ass in MAME, and like SF Rush, it's gonna be years before they get it running any better. Have always been interested in this one. 3. Tom and Jerry: Frantic Antics!(Genesis) - Not too shabby. I don't like how Tom rarely has any ammo to actually attack enemies with, but it's still a pretty decent sidescroller. They told me to come back on Black Friday because "if you like old school stuff, you'll want to be hear to see the deals on Friday". I think it's a bad idea...but man they've got some good stuff. Ah man... Ok, well, Gran Turismo is going back then...as is Centurion. There's just no way to play that game without the manual, so I'll start looking for a copy that comes with it. This will give me a reason to go back to the place where I got all this stuff, and I can get Destruction Derby 2, which I somehow forgot to get the first time around. Anyone play DD2? It's fucking GREAT! Bel |

I'm gonna see if I can pick up either Halo 3 or Dead Space up tommorow for $30 each. Depends on how I feel. Edit: Got them both. Does anyone else play Halo 3 online? Edited by DarcSeven, Nov 28 2008, 10:35 AM.

My first PC came with a Matrox Mystique 4MB card and a specialized edition of Destruction Derby 2. Man did that version spoil me, because when I saw the PS1 and regular PC games I just couldn't believe how bad it looked. Sometimes I wish that 3DFX had never taken off, and 3D hardware continued to be specialized instead of an arms race to see who can squeeze the most transistors into one die. At any rate, DD2 was pretty cool, I especially enjoyed playing in the arena and seeing how high I could launch my car by ramming all of the cars at once. Drkstlkr, I don't own Halo 3 at the moment. Do you have Gears of War? |

3dFX has gone the way of the dinosaur, they barely made it into this millennium. They officially filed for bankruptcy in 2002, but I think they stopped producing cards a year or two before that. If NVidia and DirectX hadn't taken off, 3dFX and Glide might still be around. ATI kind of came out of nowhere, they made shitty allegedly directx compatible cards for many years. Out of all the old school early video card companies, they were not the ones I picked to duke it out with NVidia after 3dfx went away. I'm surprised Matrox didn't step up. |

I had always seen the 3DFX cards as the first real popular 3D accelerated cards to come out, then Nvidia and Ati started making them to, then Matrox came out with the M3D and home consoles started to get eclipsed. Whereas the Saturn and Matrox cards were about pushing high color texture maps on as many polygonal objects (i.e. 3D sprites) as possible, the Playstation and 3D accelerated PC cards made hard encoded special effects and standardized development tools more important. To me it seemed like the Saturn and Matrox approach was going to result in higher color higher resolution 3D games before the 3D accelerated cards could. Take a game designed for the Saturn and it's 2.5MB of RAM, upgrade to the 4MB Matrox Mystique, then to the 8MB Millennium and so on, and all of a sudden the game's have 24-bit color texture maps. Meanwhile 3DFX, Rage and Nvidia cards were worried about specular lighting and texture blurring to compensate for low VRAM. On topic: Drksklr, I'll be on for Gears or anything else tonight after 8PM, or tomorrow before 8PM. I also picked up Sonic the Hedgehog for 360 this week, and the download to HDD option of NXE actually makes this one tolerable. The double load times that used to take 20-30 seconds each now only take about 20 seconds total. I managed to get past a mission that required three different tests (and thus six load times each time I replayed the section). The game is still seriously flawed, but I enjoy it for the flashes of brilliance and the hope that gives me for Unleashed on 360. |

I downloaded and watched all of the media the XBLM had for Dead Space, including the 6 comics. That's good stuff. I think, even if you're not interested, everyone should try that animated comic thing for the game. After about the first issue you're past the hokey "animation" and just get engrossed in the story. About the only thing I don't like is that it seems a lot like a knock off of Doom 3 and Event Horizon. Downloaded the demo...haven't tried it just yet.
Yeah, that's what I remember having the most fun with. I did exchange GT1 and get this yesterday, so I am all set. Still searching for GT2 and the Bleemcast! pack though. Bel |

Quantum of Solace (A.K.A. Bond of Duty 4) Alright this was a fun rental. Yes, I did beat it in a few hours like the reviews say you can, but it was a fun ride while it lasted. What's it about: Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace with abridged plot and extended and added action. Which is good for a video game. As you know, Daniel Craig's Bond is much different than all the others that have come before him and it shows here too. You use only guns and CQC to do everything in this game with some optional (Thank God.) stealth segments in the mix as well. Graphics: Nice for the most part, but the COD4 engine was not used to it's full potential. While having nicer textures, the game is played in 30 FPS unlike COD4's 60, and there are bouts of slowdown when the action gets to hot. Sound: The sound effects and the music are great. The voice acting, while using some of the same cast as the movie, is just passable at best. Control: Pretty much spot on. The cover system works great and is integral to your success in the game. Unfortunately, there is a hell of a lot of Quick Time Events, and all of the one-on-one fights are handled this way. Thankfully, there's plenty of time to press the right button. A.I.: Intelligent most of the time. These guys will flank you and fuck you up if you're not on you're game. They will have brain farts occasionally, though. Replay Value: Not much at all, a rental's time at most. I don't trust the multiplayer to last to long, there's no splits-screen or Co-Op of any kind and the game only lasts a few others. The replay values is found in Achievements/Trophy's or your own satisfaction. Tips for better gaming experiences: Um... honestly, I've got nothing. Score Time!: 80 out of 100. Nowhere near enough bang for sixty bucks. It is an excellent rental though, but it's nothing you haven't played before. |

I wasn't sure if you had a section for it so I just put it here. But if you want to put one up, I'll see if I can add a little more detail into the review. On that note, I just realized that I quickly wrote up a review for Quantum of Solace and LittleBIGPlanet, but the Eternal Champions review I promised a while back is still a no show. :D |

Some cheapies, but stuff I've always wanted to try: (all Xbox) Mafia - For some reason I always thought this was an FPS or something(maybe I was always thinking about "Mob Enforcer"). It's a GTA-like game set back in the 30's. So far, from what I've played of it, it's alright. Hoping it'll end up being WAY better than fucking "The Godfather". That one had so much potential...but, of course, EA fucked it up. $3.99 Blowout - That weird sidescrolling shooter everyone sees, yet noone gives a chance to. It's actually pretty cool. The control scheme takes a minute to get used to(one stick runs back and forth, the other aims the gun wherever you'd like), but once you do it's pretty slick. Reminds me a lot of this old game called "Abuse". Pretty fun stuff so far...reminds me of the pics I've seen of that "Expendable" on DC...need to try that one too. $2.99 Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows - Everyone tells me how horrible this one is, even the guy ringing me up told me I'd regret it. So far, it seems like a mix between PSO and the newer Gauntlet titles(Legends, Dark Legacy) but with such a hurried pace. Really arcadey, but at the same time a long quest(so I hear). $5.99 Bel |
