With Genesis, NES and SNES, I can stand cart only because they have top labels and can be stacked on a shelf on their ends in a book-like fashion. With nearly every other kind of cart out there I basically ought not even buy it if I don't have a box to display it with. Once it goes on the shelf I'll rarely remember I have it because I won't ever see the label. I feel the same way about carts without top labels and CDs without cases as I do about Roms and ISOs, they're too far out of sight to be in mind.

With N64 titles, that don't have labels on the top of the carts, I actually use a marker and write the name across it. People get so mad that I do that...but A) I don't really care about the N64 and B) I'm not sifting through every cart I have, every time to find the one I want to play. ;)

Seeing that big colorful box of TMNT II makes me want to play it, whereas I've owned the cart for years and haven't ever wanted to before.

Ugh, there's barely anything(other than a promise of some money) that would make me want to play TMNT II again. ;)

It's really that simple for me. If somebody would make a really nice computer catalog with box art and readable manuals, I'd probably skim through them until I found something I wanted to play. Screenshot catalogs aren't enough for me though, as Mame and Gens 32 have such features and I get board of looking at the menus.

Hmmm, that's interesting. For me, I just look through the boxes that have my Genesis carts(or whatever) and pick something out, or just look over my lists on WAG. The box/manual don't really do anything for me...though I do admit seeing the box for Mortal Kombat III on Genesis(one of the few I kept the box and even the tab on it from) does bring back memories, and has me popping it in the Genesis every time. :)

I managed to make a trade the other night and got High Velocity on Saturn! Man, I used to own it back in the day, have no idea why I got rid of it. Still plays really, really well, I love it! BTW, Scott, did you know it has a widescreen mode!?

Yeah, what's left of the historian in me can't stand stickers and markers ruining the original cartridges like that. Hardware failure and people throwing this stuff away is going to make it hard enough to come by without people mucking their stuff up.

It's a nostalgia thing mostly, that and just seeing the NES replicate an arcade game so well makes me wonder why more games didn't.

I sit on my couch or walk around the room and scan the games on the shelves and occasionally one of them grabs me. I never decide to play a game first and then look for one to play. I have a very vivid recollection of how the games look and feel in my mind, and that usually hinders me from picking them up again. What grabs me and makes me want to play one is recognizing the box from when I was younger and remembering how it was the first time I played the game. Apart from that, and social gaming online, almost nothing can keep my attention for very long.

As for High Velocity, I don't think I did know that it had a widescreen mode. I know I've gone through the options, but I just didn't notice. It makes me wish the Saturn had a VGA box so I could use it with my VGA to Component converter at 1080i.

OK, I just dropped House of the Dead Overkill onto goozex now that I've beaten it.

I never thought I'd say this, but my goodness, this game is offensive. Makes Grand Theft Auto seem like Mario Sunshine.

It's not the gore - everyone knows there would be gore - it's a zombie blasting game.

It's not really even the fact that there's over the top swearing (about as many F-bombs as zombies), even though part of the series' charm originally was the b-movie cheese.

It's not even the between-stage music selections, one of which is a fairly graphic ditty about making sweet love to a zombie (complete with a line about how her breasts explode and pus spurts forth).

It's all of it together, but mostly it comes from the last couple of levels, particularly the game's final boss and ending cinematic.

I don't want to spoil anything, but BLEARGH.

Thankfully it's a 900 point ($45) game on Goozex, so I'll be able to pick up quite a few old xbox games ;-)

Goldeneye- This is still awesome? Cool. And the copy came with cheats too. Thanks guy that had this before me. 8/10
FC Twin- I hope Killer Instinct plays on this. I've read about it and there haven't been compatibility issues with many of the games tried.

Goldeneye will always be a classic. You ought to see it in one of the N64 emulators...it looks awesome(as does Perfect Dark).

The various "twin" consoles only have issues with carts that have special chips built in to them(Castlevania III, Virtua Racing, Super Mario Kart, etc). If you look it up via a wiki, they usually have a partial list.

What two systems does your Twin play?

Super Nintendo & NES. I mostly got it for the SNES part. Out of all three of my wish list systems, that one mattered the most. I checked the list on Wiki, I'm in the clear. Thank goodness, there is no amount that can describe the hell I would raise if KI didn't work for it. ;)

I found out today that GoldenEye has widescreen support. That blew my mind a little. I didn't see that coming.

Sort of... yes another game trading site, but the actual interaction with users can be kept to a bare minimum.

The whole thing runs on a point system - you send games, you earn points. You can also buy points straight up if you don't want to send them.

Each game has a certain point value (some are about right, others are WAY off), and you basically create a list of games you'd like to get, and the condition you'll accept them in (game only/game + manual/complete... all the same number of points, but the less you're willing to accept, the easier it is to get matched up). The goozex system then matches you based on your place in line for that game and whether you have the available points / trade credits for it.

If you get matched up, the system will deduct the points and the person who is offering the game will send it to you. It's all pretty automatic from the recipient side.

From the sending side, when you get matched, you have 24 hours to confirm the trade (to prevent matches from happening for abandoned accounts or when you're on vacation or something), and up to 3 days after that to actually send the game out.

There's no arguing with people over prices, or trying to find something you have that they would want in trade, because everything on goozex runs on those points. They change from time to time as games drop in price... sometimes you'll find a game that's an incredibly low number of points, but the line for those deals is usually long, and nobody's trading copies at those low prices anyway. Likewise, when a game is too high, you'll often find a ton of copies available with no one wanting to waste their points on it.

Overall, it's decent - easy to use and they've sped up the site tremendously since it first started (it used to be REAL slow loading any page). You really need patience, and a willingness to wait for a match rather than expecting to be able to get new release games right from the get go (those lines get pretty long). It only goes back to PS1 though - they basically want to make sure everything can be shipped cheaply in a bubble mailer.

As for the trade credits, they're a buck each (though you can buy in bulk if you want). So every game is essential a dollar plus the points.

If you want a referral (I think you get some free trade credits or something after you send your first game out... not sure if they've changed that now), I can send you one.

if you just want to check the site out it's goozex.com

If you've got an N64, you may just want to go with KI Gold. Though both are sub-par conversions, at least KI Gold gets a *little* closer to the arcade original. If you've got a halfway decent PC, and a controller for it(even the 360 controller), MAME runs both KI and KI2 wonderfully...

You can find a partial list of what N64 games support widescreen, as well as other systems, over at HDTV Arcade.

inFAMOUS- It's been really fun, but I think I played it too much because it sounds like the game is wrapping up and it's not a short game. It's almost exactly what I wanted in a superhero game. 8/10

Dragonball Z Infinite World (Rental)-Dimps Office: "Duh, hay, Why don't we fuck up da game by cranking up the difficulty so that very eazy is da same as very hard. Yaaayy"
Fucking stupid. Get out of my house. *Puts it in a cannon and shoots it back to Gamefly.* 3/10

House of the Dead: Overkill: Very fun. I like the grindhouse style so the excessive amount of cursing of sick shit doesn't bother me. However, money being acquired through an achievement based system does. Because of it, I can't upgrade my weapons fully. I have no idea why they thought that was a good idea. 8/10

Garou: Mark of the Wolves: Wayyyy out of left field. I didn't know this was coming to XBLA. Thanks to this, my last reason for getting a Dreamcast has gone out the window. This game's really fun. My only problem is that it's only on X360. I'm thinking about getting a SFIV pad so that fighting games aren't a problem anymore. Hotaru's a FREAK! :p 8/10

Wolverine: Possibly one of the greatest stress relievers of this gen. It's easy, so I can pretty much relax while slicing through all of the opposition. 8/10

I've still yet to play this one, despite being a huge fan of the FF series. I would recommend getting some sort of fighting pad for the Xbox...man, that controller is horrible for fighters.

Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES)- More like "rape simulator". Just put the controller down after you select your character, because you're already dead. Damn, this is trash. :( 2/10

Killer Instinct (SNES)- Yay! :D 8/10

Gears of War 2 for $30 at Best Buy this week. (Thanks, Cheapy D!)- It's been great so far. I'm glad there's a normal difficulty between Casual and Hardcore this time. The campaign's been great so far! I can't wait to try the multiplayer with the bots, co-op, and horde mode in the future. 9/10

I landed Ironman (Complete) on 360 for $13.87. UGTZ came through for me in a very big way too.

Somebody actually approached me, *gasp*, I know and made a reasonable trade offer for some 16-bit carts that I had. I traded The Tick (Boxed), Mystic Defender (Boxed, Printed Insert), Battletech (Complete) for Genesis, and Batman Returns (Cart Only) for SNES. In exchange I got Scramble Spirits (Boxed, Euro) and Golden Axe (Complete, Euro) for SMS, Strider (Cart Only) for NES, and Ranger X (Complete) for Genesis. Since I've tried to sell the games I traded multiple times, I think this is a great trade really. If only things like this came along more often on UGTZ.

The AI is the same on both versions, and is based off the same lame-ass AI from the arcade original. Basically it boils down to two things: Which side you're on(1 player or 2 player) and then either jumping back every time they get close, or jumping towards them every time they get close. It's piss-poor AI, but exploiting it can be fun.

Drkstlkr7

Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES)- More like "rape simulator". Just put the controller down after you select your character, because you're already dead. Damn, this is trash. :(

If you think this is tough, wait until you try UMK3 or MKT...*those* are fucking tough. MK3 is relatively easy once you get the AI down. Next to MK1 and MKG, it's probably the most playable of the "old school" MK games.

Agreed. Even the laughably toned down SNES port is great. I play this via MAME all the time(and part 2).

TMNT is awesome, I even did a comparison with the latest GBA emulator and found the GBA player superior in every way. It just runs choppy on the Mamebox and all of the dithering that was covered up with the GBA player's filters is plain as day.

Arnold Palmer I was surprised by, the graphics are great but I see no resemblance to Great Golf at all. I haven't checked to see if the courses are the same, but the gameplay is definitely radically different between the two games. I'd call Arnold Palmer a sequel to Great Golf, but I just don't see how it could be called identical with better graphics.

Quake is awesome. In fact, I can't wait to get an all new comparison movie of it running next to the Saturn and N64 games. Sadly, GL Quake doesn't work for me, possibly because of XP 64 or some setting, I haven't troubleshot it yet.

I'm not usually for ultra violence, but with Wolverine I'm just so sick of how watered down his character has become. The guy has freaking six blades the size of his forearm, and all he ever fights is robots and women in the cartoons/movies. It's about time they got it right. Putting him up against machete fighters in the demo shows me that the developers have some understanding of what Wolverine's claws would function like. Wolverine isn't about posing in scary looking stances as much as he is about detective work and eviscerating people.

Is this because of the M/KB thing? Man what are you going to do when all shooters focus on the 360 controller instead of a PC setup? It's pretty much already happening, but with Crysis 2 and Rage focusing on consoles it's only going to get worse. I draw the line at shooters that allow me to fully customize my controls, which is why Battlefield 1943 won't be played by me. If I can make all shooters play with a familiar setup then I'll play them sometime, if I have to relearn where the freaking reload button is I won't bother.

Iron Man feels like a Space Harrier game to me for some reason. It just seems like a suped up Planet Harriers, that's what I loved about it the most. Then I just love flight combat games in general, and this one is as action packed as they get.

I've gotten offers before, but it's always idiots who don't realize I'm not trying to "sell" the damned game for the value I have listed. I get about five good trades a year off the site, and this one paid off bigtime. I seriously thought I was stuck with those four games.

Oh man, how bad is [Golden Axe SMS]

It's sort of the same deal as Altered Beast on SMS, choppier animation is the worst part next to only being able to play as Axe Battler and it only being single player. I like it because it replicates the arcade level designs more closely than the Genesis adaptation did. That puts it in the same class as Shadow Dancer on SMS in my mind.

It isn't terrible, but it sure felt that way when I first bought it because I loved the Arcade title so much. I consider Run Saber on SNES a spiritual sequel. The gameplay is freaking terrible in both games compared to Strider proper.

Easily, I've owned it cart only for some time and this is the first time I've landed it complete. Now if I could just find Target Earth and MUSHA complete I'd have every shooter I ever played and loved on the Genesis CIB.

I snagged Twisted Metal (Complete, Longbox) for PS1 for $8.65 today. It's an okay game for the time, but I'm going to have a hayday showing off these 1995 releases of the PS1 and comparing them to Saturn and 3DO games. I also got a great idea for printing top labels on card stock for what few PS1 games I end up with that use Saturn cases. I don't have enough room on my shelf for those tall cases to stand up, so I have them laying on one side, so the top needs a label like these early long boxes do.

Keep in mind that I didn't just buy most of these, I just for got to mention them.

Blazblue: Limited Edition (PS3)- Let me put it this way. Awesome gameplay+Excellent presentation+ good Single Player replay value+Multiplayer that actually works(!)+Excellent soundtrack+Useful Blu-Ray disc containing strategies for all of the fighters= A very happy me! The only flaw is that the story even after weeks still makes no sense. 9/10

Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle (SNES)- For the lulz. Still better than MK3. 6/10

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (SNES)- Damn, it was the movie one I wanted. Still it's pretty fun even though the platforming's a little tough. Not Ninja Gaiden tough, but still. 7/10

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (XBLA)- God dammit, why do I keep getting suckered into this game. I mean it's good, but it's so overhyped and I fell for it again. ARGGGGHHH! *Shoots holes in the ceiling* 7/10

Madworld (Wii)- It's fun, but not as fun as I thought it would be. 7/10

There is a disc version of the game coming soon with part 2 on it. So renting it might not hurt the wallet too much. I wish that I knew it was coming before though. :(
Just call me Steve. ;)
