Bouncers (Sega CD, Complete) $10. Puggsy (Sega CD, Complete) $10. Formula One (Genesis, Boxed), the 3D racer from Domark, $10. I also learned at GameForce in Greely, CO that Japanese SMSs and Mark IIIs will indeed play Bra, US and UK with nothing more than a minor case modification of the cartridge port. Awesome. -edit- Prince of Persia: Arabian Nights (DC, Complete, Free from my father in law. Edited by sheath, Dec 17 2009, 06:11 PM.

really? I'm almost 100% sure that that the pin layout on the cartridges is different.... the US games have a 50-pin connection, and Japanese games have a 44-pin connection. A simple case mod would not resolve that problem. yes, here you go: http://www.smspower.org/dev/docs/wiki/Pinouts/SMSCartridge pinout for the non-asian master system. http://www.smspower.org/dev/docs/wiki/Pinouts/SG-1000 Pinout for the SG-1000 and Japanese/Korean Master system. Holy shit. I don't know that I've *ever* seen a cart-based system die...and you've had *three* do it to you!? Is it exceedingly humid in your house or has Gideon been dumping Kool-Aid in to them? ;)
I had this, briefly, back in the day...didn't much care for it...but the graphics, though small, were pretty good(real fluid IIRC).
Fucking excellent. Remember, this is the one that has the special screen that is said to display something like 256 colors at once. Another amazing title by Psygnosis.
Hmmmmm, I guess I forgot that this one had some actual 3D in it. I'll have to break out the ISO for it over at EmuAsylum, take a look.
Ah, you motor city motherfucker! I have been wanting to try that since the day it was released. Never got around to renting it, never got around to downloading it. I hear it's not that great, but it always looked alright to me.
You guys could also probably hit up RGVS about this as well...the various times I've tried to get back in to the my PBC gaming, I've always had questions about imports as that Ninja Gaiden is one that I would kill to have...and am never sure if it'll run or not. Though I get an answer every time I ask, I always forget what it is...
One of the various PC mags that reviewed it said that it should have been called "This door is locked", if that helps...;) I used to own it...I couldn't stand it. Bel |

Damn, that sucks. I had such a great conversation with this guy, he's a huge Sega fan, showed me pics of his collection of *every* Sega CD, SMS (including Brazilian) and Saturn title. I wonder if he has actually tried to play the US releases on his Mark IIIs, or if he just heard that they would. |

All of my systems are on shelves behind closed doors most of the day. This is my second SNES to have the cart port go out. The last one wasn't fixable, even though I tried replacing the cartridge port itself. Something on the board goes out and nobody knows how to fix it. It is a fairly common issue with SNESs.
I've heard good things about it, something about colors or tons of sprites on screen, or something like that. Since I've never seen it in the wild, for $10 it was a no brainer.
I've played it briefly via emulation and took screenshots. None of them went over 64 colors though. I can't wait to see it on the actual hardware though, the dithering effects were definitely bent on composite quality output.
It is the origin of the Kawasaki Superbike engine actually. Mean Machines absolutely raves about it.

Wow, I had no idea. My first SNES was rock-solid...but I'll admit that I didn't have it for that long(relatively speaking).
Um, may have been some other game...this one has up to 4 sprites at a time, pretty well animated but nothing mind-blowing. To me it was just really dull, but then again I only played it against/with the AI.
The special screen, if it exists in the SCD version, is accessible via a code. It looks a lot like some of your gifs for representing varying color counts in games. Just look it up on Google sometime, I'm sure someone has a screenshot of it up somewhere.
Interesting. I will have to grab the ISO and take a look in to this one. Edit: Oh wait, this is a cart game! I thought, for some reason, you meant that it was on Sega CD. I know which one you're talking about now...it's one of those I told you about in another thread over in the OSSS area of the forums a while back, remember? Bel |

MS USB Sidewinder Wheel and Pedals, $29.50. Now I have two wheels and one set of pedals, neato. Genesis: Beyond Oasis, $5 I'm interested in trading my current cart with minor cart label damage Thunder Force II (Boxed), $5 Wonderboy in Monster World (Cart Only), $3 Saturn: Alone in the Dark: One Eyed Jack's Revenge (Complete), $7
I was able to resuscitate my SNES, it worked with Starfox and MKII at least. This WeaponLord cart is giving me all kinds of trouble with the audio though. It seems like the special sound chip is shorting out, but I don't know if its my SNES's faulty cart port that's causing it. I'll need to test it at FX sometime soon, the seller guarantees his stuff for 30days. The problem is I only paid $10 for it and shipping it back to him will be half of that. -edit- Nevermind, Mario Kart is totally garbled too. I'll have to take this one apart and super clean it. Hopefully I won't have to pay the exorbitant prices of Nintendo hardware, past, present, and future.
Ah, okay. Well, I have a 4-player adapter, so maybe it'll make a good party game sometime.
I found a password for a hidden level, but it doesn't work. I'll have to play with this one a bit more. -edit- There isn't a high color screen in Puggsy as far as I can tell. Even the elitists over at Sega-16 say that the game doesn't really do anything besides the usual Genesis RF/Composite blur tricks. Supposedly there is a special end screen that looks like it has more colors, but you have to actually beat the game to see that. ;)
I thought we had, but I'm having a difficult time remembering where I heard things lately. Edited by sheath, Dec 26 2009, 11:31 PM.

Would be nice for LAN gaming with a buddy. One guy on the HTPC, the other on the office PC, etc.
I really enjoy this one...but oddly, remember really hating the one on the Saturn. This was a long, long time ago though, and I hadn't played part 1 yet, so I need to go back and give it another shot.
I can't see it being the cart...but that's just due to the fact that I've almost *never* seen a dead cart that isn't so due to rusty or bent contacts. With your SNES hardware issues, I'd probably guess it's gotta be that, unfortunately. :(
Hmmmmm, Mario Kart and WeaponLord both have special chips in them and they aren't working, yet MK2(with no special chip, as far as I know) is? Hmmmm...
It's possible. Do you have the 4-player adapter that lets you use it on both Sega and EA games? Sadly, both sets of games require their own 4-player adapter(how Sega let EA get away with that bullshit, I'll never know). There are 4-player adapters out there, though, that will let you use it for both.
I'm beginning to think it's another Psygnosis title, I'll have to see what I can find. Basically it's just a screen with blocks of colors that manages 256 on the Genesis hardware. I don't know how they did it, but it's impressive to see. Bel
Good stuff. I don't know why Dave and Neal were so disappointed with it... Bel Edited by Belpowerslave, Dec 26 2009, 11:47 PM.

Awesome gifts from the holidays: Genesis: CutThroat Island(complete) - Believe it or not, this is really a solid title...not the bullshit Acclaim usually brings. Though I still can't get past the *second* level, just the fighting in the first stage has me hooked. Oddly enough, you can choose from "Swordplay" or "Brawling" before the game begins and it VASTLY changes the way the game is played. I get my ass handed to me in Brawling mode, but Swordplay mode is really pretty hip. Supports two players and quite an arsenal of moves. Give this one a shot via emulation, I think you'll be surprised. WarpSpeed(complete) - Though not exactly my cup of tea, I was interested in this one due to the fact that it said the enemies were all in "3D". Looking over them, it appears they are more likely Voxel Sprites...but impressive none the less. I like Accolade, even though I despise the stunt they pulled getting around Sega's licensing of the console...and then somehow talked a judge in to believing what they did, somehow, wasn't illegal. Anyway, another Accolade title...I had to try it. 688 Attack Sub(complete) - Got this one for myself, for $4 over at GoodWill today. Haven't popped it in...can't fathom even remotely enjoying it, but hey, it's the only damn sub sim I can think of on the system... Barney's Hide & Seek Game(cart only) - Another one I got at Goodwill, this time for just $2.99. I know, I know, what the fuck, right? Break it out via emulation...his sprite is fucking HUGE! It's like running around with Zangief or something. This and that Telletubbies game is just unreal for large-ass sprites. I can see the SNES and even the Turbo choking on it...(as hard as that may be to believe) ThunderForce II(no manual) - Not real thrilled with this one. Seems like Fantasy Zone, but from an overhead view. Just not real hip to fighters that have you flying and being attacked from all directions. WeaponLord(complete) - Picked this one up off Half.com for about $9 shipped. Finally learning how to play it, I just had to grab it. Though I normally don't care about a game being complete, or even having a manual or case with it, I thought this would be one of the few I may really want to grab with everything for the manual and everything it would teach me...and then for that awesome cover art by Bisley. Sega Master System: Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars(complete) - Though I find the difficulty of virtually every AK game to be atrocious, I keep playing them. Waiting for the day when an AK game I pick up is finally "...in Shinobi World". Dreamcast: Marvel vs Capcom(complete) - I used to have this, but foolishly sold it off when part 2 came out. Missed it a lot and have been playing the fuck out it via MAME. It's great to finally have it back. Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers(complete) - Have never played it but it always looked great in the screenshots. Watching some video of the game at YouTube sealed it: This looks good! Xbox 360: Too Human(new) - One of the few 360 games I think I may actually go ahead and finish. The demo of this one just blew my nuts back...and with six classes to choose from and, probably, an un-godly amount of play time, this will probably be the only game in my 360 for the next year or so. ;) PC: TimeShift(new) - Even if you don't like FPS titles, give this one a shot. Playing with time is a lot of fun...just ask Blinx... HellGate: London(complete) - GrimShade raves about this one...I've played the demo and was sort of "meh" about it, but definitely wanted to give it another shot. Here it is, and here we go.. I won't even get in to the obscene amount of "digital download" titles I bought during the various sites' fucking insane sales. Didn't spend more than $5 on most of them, I will say that. ;) Thoughts, comments, harassment? Bel |

Rats, the the auction I won for the Sidewinder wheel and pedals wasn't for a force feedback wheel. I can't believe I didn't notice this, but his description and wrong model number didn't help anything. Here's hoping those pedals plug into my force feedback sidewinder and work. |

E-Swat for Sega Master System, (Complete, Gift). I really liked this game in the arcades, and even though the Genesis adaptation is an all around "better" game, I still prefer the arcade version. Much the same as Shadow Dancer and Golden Axe on SMS, this version of E-Swat follows the level design of the arcade game better than the 16-bit version does. I am also shocked at how much more playable E-Swat is on the actual hardware. I would have sworn this was the SMS version of Rush'n Attack from playing it in emulation (with a Saturn pad mind you). My first go with an SMS pad on real hardware and I was picking up enemy patterns, conserving bullets (you need to in this game) and dodging seeking fireballs and the like. I can't wait to spend some more time with this one. |

Turok, the new one, on PC is so FUCKING GOOD. I got it for X-mas as well, want to install it so bad, but need to finish Wolfenstein first! Bel I need to play through E-SWAT via MAME...I don't think I've ever actually played the arcade version past the first level, or so. It was such a shock to find that it's so much different than the Genesis version, back when I first tried it in MAME. It is wild how the SMS version of some of these arcade games is a closer conversion than the Genesis versions...still, though, and not just because of the graphics/sound, I always seem to prefer the changes they have made to the Genesis versions(they always end up being better games). My only issue with Genesis ports is that I played the hell out of the Arcade versions first and noticed every little bitty difference. With Strider and Ghouls N Ghosts it was awesome because nearly everything was intact with slightly toned down backgrounds and animation, but the games played *exactly* the same (speaking of controls, not AI). I could go into any arcade and beat either of these games with one quarter after I owned them on the Genesis. ESWAT and Shadow Dancer should have had some sort of moniker to indicate that it wasn't the same game. Even Golden Axe plays significantly differently and has significant level design changes (no red dragon in level 3 for example). If Sega were, well, more like EA they would have done a straight port of the arcade title, and then released the psuedo sequel half a year to a year later. But nooOoo, Sega always had to be original, could never just milk a good thing. ;) |

Is there a button to speed up the dialog in the cutscenes? It's so slow Gideon even got tired of waiting for me to read the next word to him. ;) I like the game a lot, there are some cool background scrolling effects in Valis, but the music is nowhere near as good as Valis III's. I noticed that your review said that Valis II didn't come out on the Genesis/MD, did you know that Syd of Valis is actually a remade superdeformed Valis II? Lost World, oh wow, I guess I haven't ever played this game, what a cool little shooter. I'm going to have to take some color counts of these lush forests too, as this does not look like the typical color counts of an overhead Genesis game. Great animation, great sound, and I've already checked out the TRex chase special effects level, can't wait to see it on real hardware through the rose colored glasses of my 32X's Composite out. ;) |
