Package from Ben this week: Cloud Master (Complete, $2), Maze Hunter 3-D (Complete, $2), Montezuma's Revenge (Complete, $10), and Psycho Fox (Complete, $10) for Master System, Chakan (Complete, $2), Jewel Master (Complete, $2), and Ghostbusters (Boxed, $10) for Genesis. Total with shipping, $47.70. There's money better spent than buying a new 360 game if I ever saw it. Comments forthcoming: Cloud Master Trippy shooter madness as expected. Maze Hunter 3-D 3-D before it was cool, overhead view maze hunting, very well done. Montezuma's Revenge Super Pitfall for SMS, also very well done. Psycho Fox Feels like a generic platformer to me, but much easier controls and better upgrades than Wonderboy 1 had in my opinion. Some platformers have tricks and physics that just appeal to more people than others. Chakan Chakan is a huge gap in my concept of gameplay and genre. It feels like a generic platforming hack n slash, but there really aren't that many platforming hack n slash games to compare it to. If we would compare Chakan to the single player game of Cadash on any system it would win. But Chakan is single player. If we were to compare Chakan to Shinobi, Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, or Shinobi III it would look like a bad game. This is interesting, since Chakan is not, according to gamers, a bad game. Any misconception about this game must be caused by people expecting it to play like some other more popular (AAA) title. I just can't seem to get into it, but that is not uncommon with me as I have specific tastes in action games. Jewel Master This game I once mistook for a generic action title back in the day. Now I see it for an above average title with much difficulty between it and being appreciated easily. Great graphics, level design, story and even music are offset by having to start the entire level over when a boss inevitably kills me to the point of continuing. Ghostbusters This game I got into back in the day, it's another action platformer and it is a great one. Today I find myself dieing a lot and not making it far enough to even hope to finish it in a single play through. My reflexes just must be slowing down, or maybe I just don't "believe" enough to get into the game anymore. Edited by sheath, Jul 18 2010, 11:39 PM.

Red Dead Redemption (X360): I don't know what possessed me to buy this. I remember GTAIV not living up to the hype, so I was skeptical with this one. Thankfully, this one does live up to the hype. It's truly amazing (sans the damned A button being the run button again). I will elaborate on this one fully later after the Mass Effect 2 review. Right now, I can easily say this game is worth buying. Heavy Rain (PS3 rental): Okay, this is a weird situation. It turns out the let's play that I watched for the first bit of the game made it seemed worse than it really was. I've gotten much further than the LP and... I'm gonna have to say fuck that LP because the game gets really intense later. The trials with Ethan nuts. I'm definitely going through the whole game so I'll probably be giving the final word later as well. I'm really into this game(?) right now. It's cooler than the impression I was given. |

'nother package from Bel: Combatribes and Super Off Road The Baja (both Cart only) for SNES. Bel, this Off Road game is a psuedo 3D racer, but it has a nifty custom engine that looks like Motocross Champ on 32X with a lower framerate, so it's cool. Re-Volt (Complete) for Dreamcast. I enjoyed this game back in the day but traded it for something else because it really is just a high res N64 game. It is a really well made RC racer with very well done physics, tracks, you name it. Plus, with my VGA-Composite upscaler it looks like it would as an XBLA game! Mad Dash Racing (Boxed) for Xbox. It locked up on the 360 during the demo, but I have wanted this one for a while. Finally, some CD from a bunch of dorks who think "video game music" is nothing but Zelda, Metroid and Final Fantasy tunes. Played it for the kid and he was begging to listen to "wiggles" again within minutes. ;) |

Killzone 2 (PS3): Here's basically a rough summary of my thoughts on the game. No full review this time. It was a technologically pretty game, but it wasn't really artistically thrilling. I did like the heavy physics for the player though, that was unique. I beat the game in two days while I was sick. It's actually pretty challenging. I did not expect that. The story and characters made Gears of War look Shakespearean, so no points for the story. It was entertaining while it lasted put I have no desire to play it again. 6/10 |

just got Shining Force as well as Toe Jam and Earl in the mail the other day. We traded some Dreamcast games for them that we hadn't played for a long while. Toe Jam & Earl is still one of the best co-op games ever. |

Earthworm Jim HD (XBLA): Buttville was so hard. I can't believe I even beat it on easy. LordKat wasn't bullshit when he did his run with the original. Of course I got the bullshit "educational" ending at the end. I'm glad it's text based because when I heard it in the CD versions, I died a little inside. One other thing: I earned Jim's Spacesuit as an avatar award. Be honest, does it make my Avatar look gay? ;) Edited by DarcSeven, Jun 10 2010, 08:19 PM.

Picked up a complete copy of Thunder Force II ($5.98) and hodgepodged it with my current boxed copy to make a not too shabby complete copy. I now have a boxed copy of Thunder Force II with sticker residue on the top of the box insert's spine and a sticker on the top right of the cart label that I will trade/sell. |

Vapor Trail and Atomic Robo Kid (Cart Only) for Genesis, Final Fight and D-FORCE (Cart Only) for SNES. $18 is what I'm told it cost, it was a gift for some silly holiday that just happened. At any rate, expect a super wiz-bang beat-em up comparison movie soon. |

Final Fantasy II (Cart only, $16.98) for SNES. Incidentally I just loaded up the ROM and used a save state to the final boss fight that is reputed to be 256 colors simultaneously. Turns out even during the linescrolling scene during Zeromus' final phase it's 85-90 colors. I'll be posting pictures shortly, and I might play through the cart to get the Composite color counts of that scene. View the emulation screenshots of the awesomely epic final boss scene and their corresponding chip output color counts on the Final Fantasy II library page. Edited by sheath, Jul 8 2010, 08:26 AM.

Bought WWF No Mercy for $6.99 (N64) and Power Rangers The Movie for $10.99 (SNES and much cheaper than I've been seeing it. Believe me.) No Mercy's great with a great wrestling mechanic and wrestler creations. Only problem is getting these damn championships. You have to be psychic to get this damn thing off of Triple H. I'm not feeling this Power Ranger game though, and this is comming from someone who liked the Genesis version. It feels more limited than the first one on the SNES. Edit:Mortal Kombat 4 for the PS1 for $8.50 from amazon. I hate that I didn't get this sooner. It's great. Edited by DarcSeven, Jul 8 2010, 06:16 PM.

If you can figure out how to do the double jump to land on enemies heads, the game becomes easy on any difficulty. You basically have to flip over an enemy and try to land on their backside, then turn and beat the hell out of them or rinse and repeat. |

I attempted a clean run, but got massacred by the vehicle part on stage four, I was doing pretty good before that though. I did start using the jump to take out enemies and one of the bosses, but I think I'm just going to have to keep practicing on levels 4-1 and 5. |

Dirt Trax FX (Boxed, $10.40) for SNES. Now I can finally see it running on real hardware, I hope. The auction says good condition, as is. It was also $10 cheaper and had the box. Now that I've realized that the SFX and SFX 2 chips were actually what Nintendo was going to put in its CD-ROM attachment I have a much greater interest in collecting what few games were made using it. It works! And man is it basically the same game as Motocross on 32X with flat shaded grounds and a lower framerate. I also can't make heads or tales of the sound effects. -edit- I recently found the saved searches option on ebay and am currently punishing myself for doing so. Doom (Boxed, $14.93), Joe & Mac (Cart Only, $7.20) for SNES and Doom (Complete Jewel Case version, $25.41) for 3DO. Doom on SNES and 3DO particularly interest me as recent youtube fads have labeled the 32X game the worst for the first time ever. Apparently the 3DO game isn't as low framerate as previous reports asserted. Doom on SNES sure as heck is though. Edited by sheath, Jul 18 2010, 11:20 PM.

You don't actually have to do the flip in order to land on them, you can simply just jump up and come down on their head(I try to position it so that Batman's shins come down on their heads). As for the driving and flying sequences, it's all about firepower: Hit that button like there's no tomorrow and you'll make it through. Bel |

I got Limbo, Deadliest Warrior and Deathspank from the networks. Limbo is really good and for some reason I'm still replaying it, even though I beat it twice already. It's very short though. I beat it the first time in less than two hours so $15 might've been a little too much. Deadliest Warrior is surprisingly very fun. It's ugly as hell and there's no music during fights, but it's still fun to hack away at the other guy. Deathspank is disappointing. it got old fast. I doubt I'm gonna beat it. It's weird because I usually love these types of games. |
