I finally landed Golden Axe The Duel for Saturn for a reasonable price, $14 import. I haven't played this game since I was a kid and never learned about the magic system when I did. This will be a treat. |

I scored the latest revision of the Skunkboard for the Jaguar just now. They are only taking preorders to guarantee the "low" price of $120 shipped, but still, this is awesome. |

What is the "Skunkboard" for Jaguar? An ED-like multi-cart? Bel |

It is a flash cart. The Jaguar community will swear that it only plays homebrew, but it plays commercial ROMs too. It isn't quite like an Everdrive, as you need to use a dos program to load individual roms over USB, but it still makes it possible for me to play these games. There's no save feature either. |

It's a great idea...and I think for these older system if one just saves up for an ED(or whatever) instead of dumping endless funds in to overpriced eBay auctions it's a better deal. I mean, I sold off virtually every one of my N64 carts after getting that N64 ED and I couldn't be happier. I can't say I miss owning the actual carts, but I will say I don't miss paying $5 to $10+ per cart...for a game that may or may not be horrible. I still feel like I ought to do this with virtually every system I own, except for the Genesis/SCD/32X combo. I mean, I have a modded Saturn, modded PSX, modded Xbox, flash cart for GBA and I'm on the verge of ditching my entire GG cart collection for a GG ED. I think about the money I'd make selling my collection...but I can see just pissing it away on something that isn't worthwhile, and then the crippling depression kicking in... Bel |

Yeah, I am going to stick to picking up games I actually want to play when I find them for less than $15. The flashcarts are useful for comparison and testing, but I am just horrible at navigating text menus and finding a game I want to play. I like to see the games on the shelf and play them. Plus, with the Everdrives, I keep running into games that just don't boot for unknown reasons. I hate having to do "gameaerobics" getting up and down until I finally find a game to play. |

Welp, got no objections earlier so...IT"S VITA TIME!!! :D Uncharted Golden Abyss (Rental): I have to say, I'm glad I rented this one. It's pretty comparable to the first Uncharted where it's a very good game, but gimicky implementation makes a lot of the game irritating. The one good Vita gimmick is tilting the device to fine tune aiming. The worked great. Every other gimmick was pretty obnoxious. The touchscreen for melee, charcoal rubbing, and holding my Vita up to a light while I'm playing in complete darkness kept stalling what could've been a great experience. Still, when I wasn't doing that crap, it was good ol' Uncharted. Very beautiful, solid gameplay and a fun adventure. More later: Rayman Origins, BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (I know, I know). |

Out of This World for 3DO for $15, I hadn't realized they totally revamped the graphics in this one exclusively. Now I can do a comparison video of the Genesis, SNES, Sega CD and 3DO versions. |

I decided to buy Wing Commander IV for both PC and PSN. Both have pros and cons. On the PC side, the pros are it's beautiful cutcenes, better performance, and it was surprisingly playable the first time I started it. It even let me use my PS3 controller for weapons, targeting and throttle. PC cons: I still have to use the keyboard a lot. It's really uncomfortable. On the PS3 side, the pros are it's more comfortable controls (and the fact that I can lean back and play it). PS3 cons: LOOOOOONG load times for everything. I guess the game was a little too much for the Playstation to handle. I was going to put the PSN download on my PSP, but the file size is really big and I can't imagine controlling the game with it. Maybe when Sony let's me download it on my Vita... |

Is there a full on new Wing Commander game out there? I picked up Dark Siders for PC for $7 because a buddy over at Sega-16 told me it is the closest thing to a new Soul Reaver game of this generation. I finally got Dark Siders in and had a chance to play through the intro/tutorial and some of the first "mission". My initial reaction to it is that I don't really like the art direction or the graphics, it looks like an early HD game even on the PC, but with huge environments and long draw distances. War looks almost exactly like Wolverine when he was Apocalypse's Horseman of Death. Seriously, did I miss a memo that there was some pre-existing fantasy cannon on how Horsemen look? Wolverine: Darksiders' War: ![]() Really though, I have no idea how anybody could criticize Beast Rider's graphics in particular and when everybody rated this game so highly, I must be missing something. I've said it before though, Presentation usually does not affect my enjoyment of a thing, the nuts and bolts are what amuse or bore me. The gameplay is very much reminiscent of Soul Reaver though, and that is a very good thing in this market of DMC/Zelda clones. Getting to play as the Horseman War in a quasi-literal biblical sense mixed with eastern mysticism (Good=Bad, Power Check Third Group) is a very cool, if a little benign, concept and I hope it starts feeling cool as he starts gaining power from absorbing souls. The Lock On, Dodge and Block Mechanic is sufficient to keep me interested in what looks like a game literally filled with group combat, and with more advanced gameplay than the Soul Reaver games had for the fighting. I really like Darksiders...to me, it feels a lot like a Prince of Persia game(just really smooth control). They actually paid me to play-test that one when it was still in development, and it came a long ways since my original session with it. I'm stuck somewhere, and just put it down for a while...tried to find a FAQ, but as the FAQ world is still stuck in 1991 and everything is still in text-only form, it's virtually impossible to find and understand as solution to the problem I've run in to. It's gotten to a point that I just go to YouTube and look for "{insert game's name} walkthrough" and just skip through the video until I find where I'm stuck and watch how they get through it. I see the PC version of the game at HPB for $5 all the time, and think about picking it up for the digital comic....is it any good? If you liked the quasi-bible thing, try grabbing the demo for this game called "The First Templar" on Xbox. It's actually pretty good, but it just has so many quality issues. If presentation doesn't ruin a game for you, this is the one to try. I really liked it, played all the way through the demo. Thought the graphics were great, it was just the animations and lip sync that seemed to need some work. It was panned, of course, and can now be had for $15 or less...and I will be grabbing it at some point soon! Fucking GameFly canceled my order on Captain America and Shadows of the Damned. Somehow, some old-ass address that I thought I deleted *years* ago made it on to the order form, I didn't notice, it didn't match my CC's address and they canceled it. Pissed me off, I was really looking forward to both games. I'll let you know the next time they do another sale, maybe we can snag it then. Bel |

The Darksiders' digital comic is just an intro, it did clarify that they do have two distinct characters in Abaddon and "The Destroyer". I was confused about that, because Abaddon means Destroyer and they introduce him in the intro sequence of the game. So far the game is really good, the combat gets increasingly complex with upgrades, a very good thing, and the puzzles are amazing. I actually got stuck in one today and needed help from a video. Apparently you can daisy chain inert bombs into an explosive wall, cool. |

I wish I knew where I was stuck, but it's been so long since I've picked it up. I know it has to do with this area floating over lava, there are four doors and you have to do something with the boomerang, like catch it on fire and then use it to light bombs or something. I need to get back in to it. I've started doing what I used to do, back before I had 10 million games laying around, which is just sticking with *one* game until it is finished. No more of this pecking away at 15 different games at a time, only to walk away from all 15 and start on another 15. I picked back up on GTAIV, with the two DLC packs I bought but never even started up. Finished Lost of the Damned, starting on TBoGT(the next one) now. Will go through it and then try to get back to Darksiders. It's nice to just focus on one game... Bel |

At a prompting I picked up StarBlade for Sega CD complete with a cracked case for $13.50 today. The other day I picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance Complete on Xbox 360 for $6.74. Marvel Ultimate Alliance was because somebody locally said they'd play it on Live. StarBlade was because a buddy over at Sega-16 asserted that the backgrounds are being rendered by the Sega CD hardware, even if the hard geometry is pre rendered. Since I have the Sega CD version of StarBlade, I intend to make a comparison video. |

I just snagged Sewer Shark in long box for the 3DO along with nine other games in standard jewel cases ($44). I've been watching for Sewer Shark 3DO for a long time and it has always been too expensive. Supposedly the video and audio quality of this version is super top notch, I can't wait to see it. |

I was in Fort Worth this week and, aside from missing Bel, it was a good week. I found a chain called the Movie Trading Company and hit two stores. I picked up The Legend of Kage, R.C. Pro Am, Spy Hunter and Alien Syndrome for NES (Cart Only), Championship Pro Am for Genesis (Cart Only), Vortex for SNES (Cart Only), 18 Wheeler Pro Trucker, Magforce Racing and the Gameshark lite for Dreamcast (Complete). |

I've been getting a few things recently, but I want to talk about this one: Gekido This one's a blast from the past for me. I remember renting it one time and really enjoying it. I got it a few days ago for $5 and while I don't think it's super-special-awesome, it's definitely worth the $5. It's a shit ton better than Fighting Force, I can tell you that. *shiver* It kinda reminded me of Spikeout with the whole "awesome gameplay, balls-hard difficulty" thing. I'd say Spikeout's better by a touch, even though I didn't get the opportunity to play it much. Gekido's definitely the best brawler on the PSX...out of all three of them, I guess. :D EDIT: Oh man, how did I forget- Look what finally hit PSN: Tomba! for $10? Bought! Instantly! Work on the side step mechanic first. If you spend most of your learning curve dodging attacks and throwing enemies into other enemies the game will become easier more quickly. |
