List your top favorite game of '07. I made this topic out of curiosity to see what everyone liked this year and also what you hated playing as well. The rule for your favorite games is that you must have paid money to play the game either by rental or purchase this year.(Which means no demos or emulation. Sorry, Bel.) You can list any game you hated this year. I'll start with my top favorites: 1. Call of Duty 4 2. Fire Pro Wrestling/Returns 3. The Orange Box 4. God of War 2 5. Bleach: Blade of Fate 6. Sin & Punishment 7. TMNT (GBA) 8. Gears of War 9. Bioshock 10. Tie: Eternal Sonata & Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo And now shits of the year: 1. WWF Super Wrestlemania 2. Def Jam Icon 3. Yaris 4. Fatal Inertia 5. Halo 2 6. Sonic and the Secret Rings 7. Bleach: Shattered Blade 8. Hour of Victory 9. Sonic the Hedgehog (X360) 10. Tie: Kameo & Spider-Man 3 Disqualified awesome games here: Killer Instinct 2 Pocket Fighter (with friends and it was short term playing it) Some kind of shooting game from SNK. It was like Gain Ground except cooler. The Punisher (Arcade) Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition I forgot to mention that this is a list where you can express your hatred for games that the general concensus says doesn't suck. (Even though we do that any way.) Have fun! :) |

Great: Virtua Fighter 5 Online (360) Sega Rally Revo (360) Golden Axe (XBLA) Streets of Rage 2 (XBLA) And as usual, most of the grand or more that I spent on gaming this year was on stuff that came out before 1995. I didn't bother to play anything this year that I knew I wouldn't like. So I can't create qualified bad list either. [Edit 12-24-07] It seems as though we're interpreting this post as any games we played this year. I had much more activity this year than previous years, but almost all of my activity was in prior generation's consoles. The following list is based on what I actually spent money on this year. Great: Virtua Fighter 5 (360) Sega Rally Revo (360) Dracula X Chi No Rondo (DUO) Quackshot (Gen) BC Racers (Sega CD) Gears of War (360) Double Dragon Advance (GBA) Steel Dattalion (Xbox) Samurai Shodown (3DO) Aerowings 2: Airstrike (Dreamcast) Armada (Dreamcast) Honorable Mention: Alien Storm (Gen) Cadash (Gen) Sega Genesis Collection (PS2) Populous the Promised Land (DUO) Strider Hiryu (DUO) Wipeout 2097 (Saturn) Capcom Generations Vol. 2 (Saturn) Stinkers: Lego Star Wars II (360) Alien vs. Predator (SNES) |

Worst: 3. SSB: Brawl's Delay. 2. The Fate of Chris Benoit. 1. The Death of Toonami (It's only a shell of its former self now). Heh, seriously I think my top ten this year would be all "retro" titles. I also spent a third of what I usually spend in a year on gaming ($500 instead of $1500). Here's my list in no particular order out of the fifty games I collected this year. Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter (SATURN) Viva Pinata Star Control, Pocket Fighter Shining Force Legend of Oasis Omikron: The Nomad Soul Valis III CD-ROM Ninja Gaiden II Golden Axe Beast Rider |

Continuing my series of the years best games, I will do a mini review for each one, which should help put in prospective which one should take the tittle of "Best Game of 2008!" I think one of my picks a night should suffice. Let's get started with the game from the series that is no stranger to the gold. Metal Gear Solid 4 There's a thin line between love and hate with this series; as in loving this game to death and wishing it were dead. I guess my point is that being a avid fan of the series means that I can forgive many missteps that the series comes across, such as MGS2's stupid ass story (I still liked it's gameplay) or MGS3's constant menu activation and still end up loving it in the end (except MGS2 which I could only like). So when I say MGS4 is the best of the series, I won't say it's perfect. Kojima knew this and made the most fanboy game ever to please the fans and to piss off the haters as much as possible. That's basically this game's flaw, and the fanboy in me loved every bit of the cockamamie story, even though when I look back on it, I know it was stupid. However the gameplay of this MGS pretty much makes up for it for the most part. The game plays a little like Splinter Cell, except that it's much more lenient and because of that, more fun. Shooting thins while moving definitely made things much better than all of the previous versions. Your suit changes it's camo to fit whatever surface you're pressed against, making the camo system more streamlined from MGS3. Everything except Act 3 played like a very fun video game. I was very impressed by the gameplay improvements, which is why it's on my list of top games. Edited by DarcSeven, Dec 18 2008, 10:01 PM.

Omega Five This one was a surprise. Omega Five is a shooter in the same style of Forgotten Worlds with a couple of twists. From the bullet absorbing techniques, to the claw, the game was unlike anything I've played before. It's hard, but very good. I think this games only problem it that the player sprites are kind of big, and because of that, it's easier to take a hit than I would've liked. But it was definitely a great ten dollar value. |

Ninja Gaiden II was the first new game I bought this year and it ultimately lost my interest. I played through something like five or six levels basically just dodging and button mashing. I just didn't feel like playing it any longer. In comparison to this, Golden Axe brutalized me over and over and I kept coming back for more until I had beaten the game on normal two days (16hrs) after I started it. At this point I would say that Golden Axe is a better game than Ninja Gaiden II, except for the fact that they are entirely different games in the first place. Folks who had their hopes up for Ninja Gaiden and felt brutalized by it should go for NGII and not Golden Axe though. |

Yeah, I can agree with that. NG/Black just raped me...flat out. NG2, the demo at least, was relatively easy...especially with those bird claws. GA tore me up, but more so, it did it in an annoying way, which is why I didn't play it the last two days I had it during my rental period. Bel |

I don't know if I've gotten better or something, but I've been playing NG Sigma for quite some time now and I think I may be able to beat it. It seems just as hard as the other two versions, but the fact that I'm progressing seems like a miracle. |

Sigma's gameplay is reputed to be seriously dumbed down from even Ninja Gaiden Black. From what I've played I'd say its somewhere in the neighborhood of NGII also. |

It's done, the list has been completed the best and worst of 2008 has been decided. Which game will be my new champion and which game should turn into a monster and kill the people that made it? Honorable Mentions: Devil May Cry 4 Dead Space Mass Effect Persona 3 Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 Braid Little BIG Planet These games were great, but something kept them off the list. Mass Effect was last years game, I didn't play Persona 3 enough, SVR '09 needs something very new,LBP just narrowly missed the list, Dead Space missed the list as well, Devil May Cry 4's level structure was not a good idea and Braid wasn't very replayable. Now begins the Ceremony of Greatness: 10.Omega Five Excelent arcade game. Too bad there's no online play, but still a good buy. 9.Bionic Comando Rearmed Again, no online play, but a very fun remake of a hard-ass game. 8.Castle Crashers Broken online, but it's a really amazing arcade game overall. 7.No More Heroes One of the few Wii titles that don't piss me off, as it's actually a gamer's game. Pretty much re validated me buying the Wii. 6.Arcana Heart A 2D-fighter with an all female cast, awesome combos and action that puts most anime to shame? Hellz yeah! 5.Super Smash Bros. Brawl While it didn't have a very good single-player campaign, I cannot deny that it had the best local multiplayer this year. So much mascot brutality. :D 4.Tales of Vesperia Fleeing genericness(not a word) with great gameplay, characters, and story, it managed to do what most JRPG's forgot to do, be fun. 3.Yakuza 2 Oh, so awesome. Whooping gangster ass hasn't been this fun in years. Excellent story as well. 2.Metal Gear Solid 4 Even with it's fanboy story, it played like a dream. Only a part in the third act held it back from the top spot. My PS3 was so happy... 1.Fallout 3 ...Until this crackaine came out and destroyed all expectations... with awesomeness! Oblivion might've set up the structure, but this game took it and made it great. This is indeed the best that 2008 had to offer. Great job Bethesda, I didn't know you had it in ya! Bottom ten of the year: These are the games that pissed me off the most. I don't give a shit what their deal is, if they made me swear every second I touched them, they're on this list. WARNING:I get pretty hateful in this post. You've been warned. The dishonorable mentions aren't the games themselves, but some thing about them landed them on the list. Grand Theft Auto 4's Reception Actually a good game. It's on the list because the amount of perfect scores it received make me ponder if I'm looking for the right things in video games. So the game is fine, but I'm not sold on the reception one bit. Peter Moleneux Fable II's not a bad game at all for the most part, but goddamn there were a bunch of stupid decisions made for this game. Peter Molyneux is a dick. Stop trying to reivent the wheel, assclown. And now, the Shit Parade: 10. Tomb Raider Underworld I'm sorry, I thought we were done delayed controls, shitty camera and spiders. Silly me. 9.Tony Hawk's Proving Ground Oh Tony, what happened to you? You used to be so much fun, and now your sadly lame. Try to remember to be fun the next time. 8.Secret Agent Clank The first boring Ratchet and Clank game. Clank's secret agent adventures are just not fun. 7.Sega Superstars Tennis Sega... Just... Never mind. 6.Advance Guardian Heroes WEAK, Treasure! You're not supposed to make bad games. What the hell is this? Not Guardian Heroes that's for sure. 5.Facebreaker EA, quit fucking around and go back to Fight Night. 4.GRID Ugh, more sim shit. I think this may control worse than Gran Turismo. 3.Burnout Paradise Fuck you guys! You totally killed the fun arcade racing for me. Leave this crap to Midnight Club, please! 2. Contra 4 After playing a Motorstorm 2 demo that was more representative of the full game and that it wasn't bad after all, I decided that the only game on the list that I payed money for should be much higher on the list. Yeah, many people enjoyed it and I know I just lost some credibility (or what little I had), but fuck it- no game should be this frustrating. 1.Genji 2 This shit was just vile. After I was done playing it, I was emo for the rest of the night. Few games make my want to cut myself, but this one damn near made me do it. Please, Game Republic, go die in a fire.
