Though I'd like to have a word with your both about The Sims, I'll leave it alone. ;)

I don't know how ya'll do it, I couldn't even manage to come up with a list of "all time favorites", let alone year by year. Still, bravo to both of you, makes for interesting reading! :)

Best XBLA game of the year voting here. If you primarily play games on the PS2 you have to pay the poll tax. Yessir, just step around behind this building for a moment.

That's okay, you'll only be capable of two or three combos with that Dual Shock 2 controller. Come on over here for a moment. ;)

I don't know man, I can do *way* more with the Dual Shock than I *ever* could with the 360's shitty, shitty D-pad. ;)

I've found both controller's buttons to be utterly unresponsive for action games, so I doubt the D-pad will help either of you. All the same, you're welcome to list off action games on any Playstation system that can rival the games of yore.

Strider 2 does a damn good job of that on the original PSX.

That's a prime example of the controller's deficiencies as well. Did you notice how there were none of the jumping sequences that made the first game so difficult? What did you think of these sequences in the original arcade game on the PS1

(Kick's head away.) Even though I still use my PS2 often, I just don't like fanboys ;) Although killing them all might not be a good idea, I'm still visiting the PS3 DMC4 boards for a good laugh.

I mostly voted for Streets of Rage 2 on the poll, but with Puzzle Fighter and Omega Five in there as well.

Is Omega Five a good one? I haven't bothered with any of the homebrew XBLA games. I'm sure some of them are fine.

It's like a slightly more complicated version of Forgotten Worlds but without the shop. Fun, but very short. There are a few unlockable characters and you can get unlimited credits if you play enough. I like to play it and Metal Slug 3 when I feel like shooting things.

To be fair, I didn't find *anything* that made the game as difficult as the first one. I mean, the first one(on Genesis) isn't hard, but it's no slouch either...the arcade version, on the other hand, is fucking brutal. Strider 2 is a cakewalk, I mean he is just so fucking overpowered in the game that noone can stand up to him...and those that do generally only do so for around 5 cipher swipes. ;)

I did fine with them on the PSX controller, it was the AI that raped me. ;) Man, I am glad they toned down the difficulty for the Genesis version, the arcade/PSX version usually has me wanting to turn it off around the Jungle level...

heh - with the year halfway over, i've only got a few contenders for that magical top spot...

Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Nintendo DS)
Rez HD (Xbox 360)
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity (Wii)
Mario Kart Wii (Wii)

i'd consider adding GRID to that list, but since I haven't played it yet, I really can't say whether it plays as good as it looks (though knowing codemasters, it probably plays even BETTER than it looks).

Smash Bros. was disqualified due to the overly long and boring "Subspace Emmisary" story mode.
