Smash Bros. was disqualified due to the overly long and boring "Subspace Emmisary" story mode.

Oh hell yeah, that mode sucked. If I didn't have so many fun play sessions with friends, it wouldn't be on my list either. It think the only other game that I played where multiplayer was excelent but single-player was crap was Halo 2.

re HALO 2 hate- Half of the single player campaign was great.
Most of the alien on alien action sucked. It was confusing.
Overall H2 was smoother experience than the jerky mess that was
HALO 3. I see his point tho'
old school!

I must have been the only one on the planet who enjoyed playing as the Arbiter. I thought some of those areas/tasks were the best in the game.

I don't know, I was so bored playing through Arby's missions that I actually fell asleep a few times. (Not as much as The Sims lulled me though. ;)) The Cheif's missions were good though, but it felt like we were the Arbiter more than him.

Bel, me getting a PS3 made you want to ban me LESS than dissing Halo 2? 0.0

With the PS3, your paying $400+ to help kill the Xbox 360 you paid $350+ for is punishment enough.

I updated my list. While I still say humbug to 2002 and on, I've got my three most played games of the year for every year to the presently ending one.

Another year in the books. I don't know...the second half of the year was a little underwhelming, but the year did bring out my new favorite game of all time. :D

Aside from Transformers War for Cybertron on PC everything I played this year came out in previous years. I replayed Batman Arkham Asylum and XO:Wolverine on PC and that is about all I played this year. When is Arkham City coming out, 2010 or 2011?

With the new LCD HDTV I need to finish Ghostbusters on 360, and Bel just made sure I can play Gears of War for Windows with him. That'll be sweet.

1998 was one of the absolute worst years in gaming, hands down. It saw the worst travesty the game industry had ever seen, one of its giants in game and console development brought low by backhanded anti-competitive megacorps. Also, this list is silly because it prioritizes years in order of their significance, and clearly by significance it means sales and influence on sequels.

1991 is about the only year I really consider a great year in this list outside of 1980. Every other year was beset by horrible amounts of great developers going out of business or changing forever.

2011's in the books. Overall I really like the games for the year. Actually, I think there may have been too many good ones this year, or at least within that small fall period. The companies behind the games, however...Ugh. Capcom in particular became disgusting. Sony got hacked, but tried to make up for it in some capacity. EA and Microsoft got hacked and they still haven't fessed up. It was a mixed year for the industry to say the least.

My Game of the Year is one of those "Will not be on anyone else's list" picks. I have chosen Ska Studios's Dishwasher: Vampire Smile. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was playing it and I still am. It's one of the best 2D action games I've ever played.

The runners-up are Batman Arkham city, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mortal Kombat, and Infamous 2. Batman absolutely floored me with it's atmosphere, Deus Ex showed me how First Person games should be done, Mortal Kombat revived the whole series and is the best it has ever been, and Infamous 2 is just electrifyingly awesome. (Pun intended. ;))

The worst game of the year is Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One. I cannot believe Insomniac made something so shitty, pandering, and half-assed. It's Castlevania HD all over again. It makes Ratchet Deadlocked seem like a brilliant idea.

I haven't had the chance to play Uncharted 3, Rayman Origins, and Zelda: Skyward Sword in full, but I'm looking forward to it. My most anticipated game of 2012 is Bioshock Infinite. Just check out that really long gameplay demonstration and you'll see why I'm pumped for it.

Batman Arkham City is definitely my best new game of the year. To be honest I was kind of let down by it, but I am enjoying the collectathon-detective segment of the game now while hoping there is more to the main story than it lets on. I think Arkham Asylum has more concise and challenging scenarios for the combat segments, the open city thing just throwing 7-20 thugs at you every time you land on the street doesn't feel like a strategic scenario to me.

While I have collected a good deal of games this year for previous generations, I have hardly played any o them. Overall it was a disappointing gaming year for me. The only highlight is that editorialists across the industry finally noticed the sequel-disease they helped to create, and Sony was finally brought low enough that it actually got called out on something (thanks to dirty hackers).

I went back and edited my list again. I removed a couple of turds because they were there for unjust reasons. The biggest change was Fire Pro Returns taking CoD4's spot in 2007. That file transfer of the current rosters put the game over the top and now it's one of my all time favorites. I play it all the time now. I can't even remember the last time playing Cod4.

Is anybody really even thinking about this for 2012? I swear I can't think of one solid title this year that isn't a re-release of something I already owned.
