Taster's Choice

Just got a $50 gift certificate to Amazon today, and I put it towards my Pokemon preorder instead of towards Yakuza 3 where it should have gone. Thanks a lot, Sega :-( |

I have been, and remain, non-sequitur

I just played the demo for Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing (or whatever). Hot dang does this make me want to go out and spend $50. The framerate issues in the 360 game are so small I had to force myself to watch the far background while power sliding to notice them. I'd have love to see this game run at a solid 60FPS, as I would all games, but the gameplay in this game is just plain well done. With everything from Gears of War to Madden chugging way harder than Sega Racing does during heavy screen panning, I just don't see the problem. The mixture of Mario Kart, F-Zero GX, Sonic R (shortcuts anybody?) and the themes for the levels and characters is just really well conceived. Did anybody notice the Rad Mobile/Gale Racer inspired Sonic speedster? I'm going to have to go pick this up, probably this weekend. Maybe I'll get my fill and do my usual trade in for $40 and pick it up again when it's $15. But still, Sega should be rewarded for pumping something this solid and well thought out together. -edit- Well, it looks like $600 to change the clutch in our CRV will take care of my gaming wants for the next several months. Wow, just found the nail in the coffin for the PC version of Sonic and Sega Racing: NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT. Fucking-a! Why did they even bother putting out a PC version at all? Sega doesn't advertise the PC version, the official site has *no* mention of it...they remove online play and then, finally, you can't even use a fucking controller to play it. Just simply making it a "Games for Windows Live" title would have fixed all of this. MS would have advertised the game as it was under that label, the game would have been online through it and it would have also forced Sega to make it compatible with the 360 controller. I am happy to see so many people stealing it on Bittorrent...it's almost like that was what Sega was aiming for. Already down to $35, used, at GameStop...by the end of March I'll grab the 360 version for $25 or less... Bel |

Just Cause 2: This is awesome. This demo is 30 minutes of pure chaos. The grappling hook is great and they give you a lot of freedom for a demo. I definitely want this one. |

Update: Sonic and Sega Allstars *does* have support for the 360 controller...it even mentions it in the fucking "read me" that comes with the install! WTF? Why do people think that it doesn't support it? Oddness. Anyway, as imagined: The PC version allows you to do stuff like turn off Motion Blur, Soft Particles, jack the settings up to extremely high levels, etc. I don't know what the deal is with these people *on the official Sega Forums* complaining about the PC port when it's got everything that most PC ports have. The lack of online play still really hurts, and no DLC is another killer...but at least the PC port isn't as horrible as previously thought. Will still wait for it to hit sub $20 though... Bel |

Splinter Cell Conviction (X360): The demo way way too short, but it was very enjoyable. I like what they've done with this one. I couldn't stand the first four games. I like the fact that you can survive a gun fight if you get into one this time. |

Okay. Now that the rape of my self-esteem is over for a few months it's time to break down on demos again. All on X360 and XBL this time. Lost Planet 2: Sucked and smelt of ass. Capcom made this? Really? Split/Second Michael Bay had something to do with this racer. I know it. The steering feels weird, but triggering traps was pretty neat. Pretty fun, overall. UFC Undisputed 2010: Second verse, same as the first. That's not a bad thing though. I still enjoy knocking people out. Iron Man 2: Not nearly as painful as I was led to believe. Kind of like a broke ZOE. I love ZOE. Did I mention that I love ZOE yet? I'm gonna go play that now... ;) Toy Soldiers: Boring, I hate that this sold more than Perfect Dark. Scrap Metal: More like Crap Metal. *is severely beaten for the pun* Reminded me of a flash game. Megaman 10:...It's Megaman with an optional easy mode. Tecmo Bowl Throwback: Throw it back. (Oh... I am an awful person...) I really liked Zeno Clash and Rocket Knight. I might get those later. |

Got a few more from the past few months. Crackdown 2: I actually liked the first one more, so that's not a good thing for this one. Kane & Lynch 2: Err... Mafia II: Was really nothing special at all. Naruto Storm 2: I actually really liked this one. It's a really beautiful game too. Vanquish: It was alright, but I think I need to play more of this game later to really get my thoughts on it. Quantum Theory: It's Gears of War, but worthless. This really sucked. Now for the XBLA's: Blacklight: Tango Down: Pretty crappy, sadly. I see no reason to play this over any other shooter. Monkey Island 2: Bought! Deadliest Warrior: Brainlessly fun... (Incoming rant!) Until Spike admitted that they didn't care enough to make a game worth more than $10. People a lot of work in their Indie games to make them worth more than their price and these assholes with a budget cant be bothered to put effort into it? Fuck this and fuck them. DeathSpank: zzzzzz...zzzzzzz...Sadly, I bought this one.-_- Limbo: Bought! Kinda pricey though. Hydro Thunder Hurricane: Was okay. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair: I hated every single bit of this wretched, cash-in, piece-of-dogshit. Even the title knew this game sucks. So far it's in the lead for worst game since picking Field & Stream is just bullying. Monday Night Combat: Not bad, but needs much more content. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light: Wow...Biggest surprise of the year. This game is fantastic! Bought! Shank: Not nearly as fun as it should've been. I was looking forward to it too. :( Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: Bought! Twice! One for each system! Dead Rising Case Zero: This was fun, but I think only because it was short. I didn't mind starting over in this game to get stronger. |
