I have been, and remain, non-sequitur

I was shocked by how good this movie is. I had read a bunch of reviews and almost not gone to see Terminator:Salvation as a result. I was told in said reviews that Bale's performance was terrible, that his character was lifeless and boring, that the story was non-existent and that there was too much convoluted discussion about timelines. What I found was basically the exact opposite. Bale's character was the most human in the show, he was basically the only guy keeping the rest of the human race from becoming animals or merciless killers. Bale himself seemed like he was absorbed into the character presented in T2, but now significantly older and very battle hardened. I honestly loved everything I saw about John Connor in this movie, especially the Deja Vu-filled fight with the T800. Now, add to that the excellent performances by supporting actors, who's names I don't remember at the moment, and we have an excellent action flick. T:Salvation fleshes out a time period after Judgment Day that we had never known anything about before. If I recall from the reviews, the movie is set some twenty years before Kyle Reese is sent back in time. Kyle Reese is a badass, even as a teenager, he is awesome. I hope everybody who reads this goes to see the movie, and I can't discuss it more without seeing it about a dozen more times to pick up all of the subtleties. |

Like TF2, I thought this one was ok, but not great. To me, it just gets too far away from the scenes of the future that were shown in the first two Terminator films. Plus, if it was going to go that far out of its way to be so different than what we had been shown, why didn't they have anyone from the show in the movies? That was just a real missed opportunity, imo. Speaking of, has anyone heard, is "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" was really canceled? Bel |

Yeah, read about that shortly after the second season ended. I wasn't a fan of the last episode. I think in the future when I re-watch the show, I'll ignore the events of that finale. I do the same thing with the last episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, and John Doe. |

Apparently the Blu-Ray version is the Director's Cut and then the DVD DC is a Target-exclusive(oddly enough). It's only 3 minutes longer than the PG-13 cut, so don't expect miracles.. Apparently the director said that he's got another version of the film coming, that adds 30 to 40 minutes of footage but is not sure when it will be released. I'd keep that in mind if you're planning on getting the movie right away. In the meantime... I grabbed a 6.5GB Blu-Ray rip of this last night(fuck the BDA) and I've gotta say that this, along with the similar sized Watchmen, The Dark Knight and Batman Returns Blu-Ray rips I've downloaded, is really proving to me that there can be solid HD rips under 10 GB. I didn't used to believe this...and wouldn't even consider a Blu-Ray rip of less than 10 gigs but that is quickly changing. These rips can all be burned directly to a DVD-DL and then popped in to your HTPC or 360(if it's a WMV-HD rip like The Dark Knight is) for watching. Helps save HDD space, which is my main concern even with HDDs being so reasonable nowadays. In terms of HD rips, this is what I've got right now(all burned to DVD-DL discs unless otherwise noted): Star Wars: Episode 1 through 6(the entire saga) - 720p. All around 8 gigs a piece, all WMV-HD, all play natively in the Xbox 360 or a PC/Mac. The Dark Knight - 720p. 6.7 gigs, WMV-HD, plays natively in the Xbox 360 or PC/Mac. Terminator: Salvation - 720p. 6.5 gigs, MKV, plays on the PC/Mac. Batman Returns - 720p. 6.6 gigs, MKV, plays on the PC/Mac. Originally wanted to get the first Burton Batman, but the BR rip of it was a mere 4 gigs and just based on the sample the regular DVD version looked better on my Combo player with it's REON chip for upscaling. Watchmen(DC) - 720p. 7.95 gigs, MKV, plays on the PC/Mac. Can't seem to get this one on to DVD-DL. It should fit, but just doesn't. Need to dick with it somemore. I'm trying to get the three Pirates of the Caribbean movies as the guy who did the conversion for the Star Wars saga also did these, so they're all 720p, WMV-HD and all fit on dual layer discs. I have some torrents for Iron Man, The Fifth Element and a few others in WMV-HD format as well...just need to get around to downloading them(again, fuck the BDA). Bel |
