Managing to get some time in with the site, I've recorded, edited, encoded and uploaded videos for a few Saturn and Sega CD games. http://whipassgaming.com/wagvideos/specialanddemo13.htm If you get bored, stop on by. I highly recommend the Panzer Dragoon video(I used to turn the game on just to watch the opening videos), Criticom(if you're a fan of the CG in EC:CftDS), Microcosm and the always-hilariously-bad Supreme Warrior(32X CD). There's just something about Sega CD video that does it for me...I don't know what, but it just gives me all sorts of warm, fuzzy feelings. :) More updates can be found on the front page of WAG, for those interested. You know, I hate to say it, but I think I'm going to have to start uploading videos to Youtube. The quality problems have been solved and there is no better way to get visibility. |

Well, I wouldn't say that(quality being fixed)...it just depends on the size of your video. If you upload anything smaller than 640X480(or around there) it still gives you blurry results, and if it doesn't like the codec you've used then stuff turns out like that SMS "Top 10" video I posted a few days back. Now, it is important to note that 99.9% of the people who use YouTube aren't intelligent enough to recognize shitty quality or just simply don't care...so if you can live with what it does to your stuff, the audience definitely can. Just remember, those finer issues that you like to point out in videos, like the full screen dithering and whatnot, there's no way it's going to show on YouTube unless you're uploading the video at 720X480...and even then, I don't know. I started using it simply because I needed a secondary place for WAG videos that *definitely* wasn't going to go under(like Stage 6) or just turn around on their own EULA and ban all gaming videos(like Vimeo). I still push people to watch the videos on Yahoo instead, or download the original files... Bel |

Yeah, I prefer Yahoo, maybe I'll just upload them there and say "click here for faster download". Now if I could just find the time and motivation to finish the sixty some odd comparison vids I have on my hard drive. *HINT* knowing somebody actually cared to see the vids would probably do the trick. ;) |

Either way would work for the purposes of giving your visitors a streaming alternative, but YouTube is about your only shot for any actual exposure. Though I like Yahoo Video...the entire internet viewing public does not. Just hit my Yahoo Video page sometime and look at how few views there are on any given video. It's sad. Take that same video and look at it on YouTube and it eclipses it by, literally, hundreds of viewings. Since you're trying to balance quality and exposure, I would say try YouTube first. Upload some of your videos that have finer features, stuff where you want people to notice a difference in textures, dithering, etc. and see how it pans out. If you don't like the results of those, then YouTube probably won't work out for you...but at least you've only uploaded a few videos. You could do that same over at Yahoo, see what you think there as well. In both cases, all you've put in was some time and bandwidth... That's pretty much what I did when Vimeo kicked me out... http://s4.zetaboards.com/Whip_Ass_Gaming/topic/7531719/1 As for the comparisons, I really enjoy them...hell, remember, I'm the guy always posting those GameTrailers comparison videos. Plus, were the YouTube solution to work out...I think you'd see that there are people out there who really enjoy that stuff. Even the most obscure gaming videos I've uploaded get views, and comments on YouTube, stuff I *never* thought anyone would have cared about. Bel |
