Firefox 3.5: Anyone else give it a shot yet?

Is anybody else getting random "blup" sounds while using Firefox 3.5? Also, one of my clients had their Skype plugin stop working after installing 3.5, I had to uninstall 3.5 and reinstall 3.0.xxx for it to start working again. Not even the generic add on for using skype like programs brought the link functionality back for him in 3.5.

Now that I finally have FF3.5 working correctly ( it took a reinstall from the original factory image) how do I get rid of IE. I went into my computer to the add/remove/repair list of programs and can not find IE listed anywhere. I did notice that once I reinstalled FF3.5 it now takes my computer about a minute to a minute and a half to get loaded up as when I just had IE installed the startup was almost instantaneous. I got my problem websites to load properly once FF3.5 and ad blocker plus add-on were installed. Should I just leave IE installed and not use it? I was thinking that if I only had one internet browser installed a lot of possible conflicts would be avoided. Any help from the wagsters would be appreciated.

It should be under Add/Remove Windows components in Add/Remove Programs (a side bar option). I usually keep it though and install the IE Tab in firefox just in case some idiot used a template that was designed for IE only.

There's no real way to uninstall Internet Explorer from Windows, at least not if you're running anything newer than Windows 98. I've heard of the slow start up problem with FF 3.5, one of the fixes for it is to delete your temporary internet files in Internet Explorer. You can try the stuff listed in step 5 here: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/the-ultimate-guide-to-speeding-up-firefox-3-5/

To clean your Temporary files for IE, to speed up the startup time in FF, go here:

https://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?comments_parentId=381674&forumId=1

You don't have to delete your cookies in IE.

Thanks for the info. I did most of the recommended speed up tricks and my loading up time is about as fast as it was with only IE installed.

I thought I already posted this, but I ran into a problem with Firefox 3.5 and the Skype plug in last month. I had to downgrade to Firefox 3.0.12 or whatever to get the plug in working again. That was after about 45 minutes of reinstalling and searching google.

Yeah, still doesn't look like there's a fix for that, leaving the skype plugin installed really slows down the browser. Looks like FF is waiting for Skype to do the fixing this time around.

I would shy away from AVG Free. Though the 7 series was excellent, they've really fucked it up with 8/8.5. So much bloat that takes up way too much processing power. I couldn't take it anymore so I started looking around for alternatives and found one in Avast Home Edition. I *highly* recommend everyone give this one a shot. It's what AVG Free 7 was: Excellent.

I decided that something was up with the Mamebox and installed Spybot. After several reboots and forced runs finding spyware I decided to install an Antivirus program, and went with this. I will post the results soon, but I am hoping that it doesn't slow down the single core Mamebox at all.

Microsoft Security essentials has less of a memory footprint than AVG, it's what i'm running on my pc's here in the house now. It's free. There isn't a version for XP 64 bit though

Avast didn't find anything else, but I installed Diskeeper and had it defragment all of my hard drive partitions. This didn't help Sega Rally Revo's performance at all, but Street Fighter IV's full version benchmark gave my computer a 'B' instead of a 'C' average, changing it to "adequate".

De-fragmenting your HDDs is really important. I think it's somewhere around a 10% performance loss for each percentage of fragmentation you've got going on(certain files, of course, doesn't really matter if your Restore points are fragmented or whatnot).
