Oh, btw, new Turbo section is now open. Talking with Scott, we decided that going with just a "hardware" and "games" category would probably be the best bet.

'ello all, Just thought I'd pen up a quick post while I'm riding high on a night filled with MAME goodness. First off, I just got down downloading all *15 gigs* of MAME roms(excluding the *57 gigs* of worthless CHM games that either A) don't work at all or B) run at, like, 8 frames a second) using this torrent. Believe it or not, it only took about three days(around 3 to 4 hours of downloading per session), there are *that* many people seeding and leeching it. Now that I have the full set of 0.118, I can simply update it with the few hundred meg(usually somewhere between 100 and 300) updates that hit about once a month/month and a half. I had such a blast with this shit tonight. Hooked the laptop up to my 27" Panasonic SDTV, hooked in my USB controller converter(lets me use Saturn, PSX or DC pads on any given PC or Mac) and went to town. It's so overwhelming, I mean it's thousands and thousands of roms. What's nice is that you run in to games you've never heard of before, but fucking rock(like 64th Street - A Detective Story by Jaleco). You also get to enjoy all those arcade classics that ate hundreds upon hundreds of your dollars back in the day, again. Tonight I enjoyed a little RoboCop, the above mentioned unknown fighter 64th Street, Radiant Silvergun, Raiden, Street Fighter Alpha 2(why I tried this, I don't know), Ninja Spirit and quite a few others. It is the sheer enjoyment of the "arcade perfect" experience that has finally pushed me over the edge to do something I have longed thought of. Some of you may know what I'm talking about, I'm sure I've mentioned it at some point: A MAME review section for WAG. Yup, it's happening. Fuck the bitches who will whine about "it's just emulation" and definitely fuck those who will say "it's illegal"(I know these statements don't include anyone here, this is just for any lurkers who may be feeling especially ambitious after reading this). I'm going for it, and I'll take anyone with me who wants to go too. Like I've mentioned in a sticky in this very section, WAG is accepting user-written reviews. They can be as short or as long as you'd like, you can use as many screenshots or as little as four, you can add artwork, music, flash and virtually anything else to your review...all I ask is that you build off my template for the sake of keeping with the look I've already established on the site. It'll take some time to get a decent of reviews up there, but like I always remind myself: The House of Renders started with *1* picture, the OSSS started with *1* review... :) Bel |

I enjoy playing a lot of games on MAME on my modded xbox. It doesn't have the horsepower to play some of the newer games, Tekken is a slide show. |

Yeah, it's just horrible for stuff like that. The old school stuff, though, is what I love about it...and it runs great on the laptop! Bel |

ever considered using browser detection on the site and redirecting people to a version optimized for them? like making a ps3 version which redirects the user to that sony thumbpenis ad or something. Just saying it could be a fun prank/slap in the face to ps3 users. |

I've never really messed with that sort of thing...I figure that virtually every browser out there is capable of running the pure and low-end HTML WAG is made up of. I think were I to start pulling stunts like that it'd get out of hand really quickly, and I'd end up doing something nasty to IE users. ;) Bel PS: I had not seen that thumb ad...holy shit dude! |
