Ok, I'm not going to lie to you...that info I found while using AIM Express really freaked me out: 51 more people than I actually realized were being informed of my AIM-status... Now, that's not to say that I feel this is some gross invasion of privacy or anything like that...I signed up for AIM, I accepted AOL's EULA, I enabled options that would allow people to find my identity by my email address or other methods. What's freaking me out, what's actually scaring me is that there are 51 people out there who actively choose to follow what I'm doing when I'm on AIM. Normally the thought of people paying any attention to what I'm doing doesn't bother me too much...when I do...whatever it is that I do...on WAG, I do it for me, I do it because it's something I want to do and I don't care what anyone else has to say about it. I wrote the Robotica review because I love the game, because I wanted to talk about the game, because I wanted to share my thoughts about the game. I didn't care if anyone read it...I didn't care if no one read it. This is how I've been able to do everything I've ever done on WAG. With 4.6 million hits, a lot of "anyones" and "no ones" are stopping on by to see what's going on. Still, that doesn't phase me. I usually assume that most of my hits come from The House of Renders, or more recently, one of the various projects in the aptly named Special Sega Projects area of the Old School Sega Section. I never would have guessed that even a small chunk of hits came from people who actually wanted to hear what I had to say about a game, or anything else for that matter. It is with that notion that I not only propose what I am calling "The Twitter Experiment", but also pass said notion and enact it(life my stage, dammit). For the month of December I will be posting various inane bullshit(hey, Bel's finally back, I was wondering who in the fuck wrote those pretentious pieces of piss above) about WAG, life, cats and sex with various barnyard animals(something, I think, we've all been waiting for) via Twitter. We're going to, finally, put an end to this mystery... https://twitter.com/BelPowerslave Bel |

I have been, and remain, non-sequitur

Twitter and Facebook are, as you said about WAG, really about the individual posting and not at all about other posters. I've experimented with Facebook for a couple of years now. With many of my friends and acquaintances registered as friends I thought I might get some kind of reply to some of my more personal thoughts. Nothing, nadda, ziltch. If it isn't about a completely benign topic or something people feel they can "win" at, *nobody* will reply on a "social networking" site. Period. |

Oh yeah, I fully understand. The Twitter Experiment is exactly that: An experiment...on many levels, in fact. One thing I would like to know, the main thing really, is just how many people will actually read the stuff I post...how many people will actually follow just the stuff I say, who will actively listen to my inane ramblings when their main message isn't gaming. They won't be showing up for the House of Renders, they won't be stopping by Whip Ass Gaming for The Sega Logo Fun! Project or a Game Genie code, they'll actually be there just to read what I've typed. This is what I'd like to find out. Next I want to see if, by actively participating in these blogging sites, we see any increase in hits to WAG or WAG Forums...see if we get any one to not only join but also actively post. Basically, see if participating in something like this will widen WAG's web exposure. Finally, I want to see if anyone out there will put forth the effort to actually comment on WAG, on my efforts with the site, my writing, what they want to see more/less of on the site, etc. There are 68 people who have added me to their AIM buddy list, let's see if they pop in for a minute or two. What I will be doing on Twitter: I hereby promise to deliver something of which I have never really done much of on the internet at all: Talk about myself...my life, what's going on in my head on a day to day basis. I want to see how many bored and/or demented individuals will want to listen to what goes on in my warped mind, how I jadedly handle issues in my life and just what kind of utter bullshit goes on during a given day in my life. So, for one month I am going to put forth full effort(or as close to that as I can pull off) in to this experiment and we'll meet here early January to discuss the results. In the meantime I'll post anything significant in regards to how it's going... 20 minutes until Midnight...until December 1st when it begins. You guys ready? Let's do it... Bel BTW: In preparation to all this, I've linked my YouTube and worthless FaceBook account to Twitter, so you may see some updates coming from them, from time to time. |
