hahaha - i really can't stand the majority of the PS1's library. There's Wild Arms, Brave Fencer Musashi, the Namco Museum games... and maybe a few others, but most of the stuff just has no real substance compared to the Sega games of the period. Playstation 2 has tons more great games (with the sheer number of games, it's easy to see why). For example, Shinobi PS2 is the stuff of legends. And at least I can play outrun 2006 (even if it is inferior to the xbox version in every way) |

I need to recollect Shinobi, but my PS2 sits unconnected in my office. If Virtual On Marz didn't suck I'd play it more. Blood Will tell needs to be completed as well, but every time I hook it up to my RPTV I end up screaming at those blurry 2-color PS2 textures. |

thankfully, gaming was never about graphics for me. Though if games are otherwise identical, i usually like to play the one on the sega system. Barring that, I'll go with the one with superior graphics. |

I think my graphic whoredness is deeply rooted in how many Sony fans insisted the PS2 would look like Xbox 360 games do. That and the fact that I was genuinely impressed by Dreamcast graphics and PS2 graphics just look like a half generation step back to me. |

dreamcast is genuine quality, no doubt about that. As for the PS2 - Sony's hype machine worked wonders that time around. This time with the internet more prevalent and company plans leaking almost as fast as they're thought up, Sony's been more in the business of shooting themselves in the foot though. |

Most likely. See, and it's a double edged blade here, Sony kind of fucked up by still allowing people to produce PS2 content. You saw how MS did it: As soon as that 360 launched, virtually *EVERYONE* was banned from making anything on the original Xbox anymore...and it killed it in less than a few months. With Sony, they really can't afford to stop allowing people to make PS2 content...but at the same time, with the PS2 market still being so strong, it's never going to allow the PS3 market to grow to what Sony would like... Almost the same story with Nintendo, except by the time the Wii came out, virtually everyone had stopped making gamecube games two years before ;-) |

You got that right. It absolutely astounds me that the GC made it as long as it did. What kills me though, now, is that the Wii is unbelievably popular and stores still have very little GC game stock. Why they don't just push the GC titles is beyond me, it's going to be their only chance to get rid of them. The public's constantly flipping opinion on backwards compatibility wears me out... Bel |

I think the public's opinion on backwards compatibility is: "It's great on my console" "It's not important on the other consoles" |

Yeah, I think you're right. It's sad too, because the Shitstation 3 really got it right, will full backward compatibility. The 360, even when you play an original game, it tries to make the game better, using it's more powerful graphics chip, but it usually ends up making a lot of the games look worse, or run slower, or whatever. The Wii does it right as well, as far as I know, in the it just runs GC games...doesn't try to do anything more with them. I still remember getting my Genesis that one X-mas, looking on the back to see something called the "Power Base Converter". Reading that it would allow me to play virtually all SMS games. I was so excited! Nowadays it's "Yeah, I think the 360 plays Halo 1 or something, but I've never tried it." from some dumb-ass kid. Bel |

That's the best part, because they took it out on the newer consoles. Now it's just PS1 compatibility with *NO* PS2 compatibility whatsoever. |

Hem Haw http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=2626 "Last year, Black Friday week sales were strong as well, but Wii, DS, and Xbox 360 saw significantly better sales this year. PS3 had the weakest Black Friday to Black Friday growth, at 13%, and PS2 declined. Sony’s machines accounted for about 1 out of 3 videogame machines sold (31%) during Black Friday week in 2007, this year that ratio is down to about 2 out of 9 (22%) as the shares for Microsoft and Nintendo increase." -- Edit Har "- A total of 49 games sold over 50,000 units this week in the Americas. Not bad for a recession huh? - Within the top fifty, there were three PS3 games, 14 Wii games, 18 DS games, 1 PS2 game, 1 PSP game, and 13 Xbox 360 games. Bundles are included in the comparison this week since each platform had at least one game bundled at one store this week." Edited by sheath, Dec 5 2008, 11:12 AM.

When ole' Trippy turns on you the writing is on the wall: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ea-founder-questions-ps-home-goals_0 EA founder questions PS Home goals EA founder Trip Hawkins has questioned the goals of PlayStation Home - suggesting that going after the Second Life or World of Warcraft market is a mistake. "What I can't really tell yet about the various announcements [Sony has] made about online and what they're doing so far, I can't tell whether they're going more towards this mass market idea - the way I'm describing this 'omni-market' - or if they're being lured into essentially trying to compete with Warcraft or Second Life," Trip Hawkins told Hatchet Job. "My own personal opinion is: if Sony makes Home feel too much like a [World of] Warcraft environment, they're just never going to create the kind of audience size that you're going to see Nintendo and Microsoft create. "Because clearly Nintendo is orientated towards the mass audience, and even Microsoft has learnt a lot of valuable lessons from things like Xbox Live Arcade," he added. |
