So I've been languishing in Sega-16 forums talking to, well, whatever. I stumbled upon a link to these fourteen things Back to the Future II did right, and then fell into this pit of 3D movie knowledge. I can't even make myself look at the whole list. But do we think that 3D movies will take over the entire industry like polygonal 3D did with the original Playstation in the game industry? |

It's just too expensive...and the fact that even when you have all the gear there, what, like 4 movies out right now that support it? The only way 3D is going to break through is if they can figure out a way to make non-3D material 3D. Take, for example, that early 3D PC monitor that came out a long while back(can't remember the name of it, but Thai and I would salivate over it every time we went to Fry's). The manufacturer of that monitor would put out patches so that non-3D games would be shown in 3D. Granted, though the effect was fucking sweet, you could tell the games weren't built for 3D(there wasn't anything flying towards the screen or stuff like that)...but the 3D was there. Now, what if these new 3D HDTVs could take non-3D stuff and split the image to make them 3D...why not let the user actually have control over how much the image is split to designate what they feel presents the best 3D image? Think about it, you pop in...say, Blade II on DVD...you turn on the 3D, it splits the image...you watch it in 3D...and then you do that *with everything else you watch*. Finally, something that would make the unbelievably hight price of 3D HDTVs doable. ...but no, we get these expensive-ass 3D HDTV sets...that require an expensive-ass Blu-Ray player...3D glasses and whatever else...all for 4 whole movies(and the one everyone is waiting for, Avatar, still isn't out on 3D). It's a joke. Bel PS: Anyone who mentions that they are paying *$300* for the newest GameBoy revision is getting laughed off this forum. |

Here's hoping that 3D fails, it'll tank Sony and Nintendo. Oh wait, that leaves Microsoft alone, crap. |

I don't think it'll tank either...I mean, Nintendo will just keep chugging along with another revision of the DS, simply sweeping the 3DS under the rug like they did with the Virtual Boy. Sony will back away from it, sending them back to the mess they are currently in. As always, this new thing failing only fucks the consumers who buy it. As much as I want a 3D HDTV, I've been fucked way too many times by new technology so I am sitting back until this bullshit is established and affordable(if it makes it). I may look in to getting that 3D PC monitor at some point...but mostly just because I know it'll be a clearance somewhere(hell, it was constantly on clearance at Fry's, but still way too much). Has anyone tried that Batman: AA GotY Ed that is supposed to have some sort of 3D going on with just regular'ole glasses? Bel |

I'd just be happy to score a 40" LCD TV from a reputable company (i.e. not Sony or generic) that has Composite, S-Video and Component inputs for less than $400. Television prices are looking as fixed as gas prices. |

For $300...I would let it slide. ;) Speaking of, ran across an S-VHS player the other day at Goodwill! Going to try to re-dump my VHS tapes, maybe get rid of that nasty dithering the S-Video to Composite adapter left on all my stuff. I think this will be my last attempt though, as it just take so fucking much time. Bel |

I looked at this some more and I just don't think I'll be "upgrading" to LCD/LED or whatever until my Yamaha prologic tuner dies, which will be right after hell freezes over and I start feeling comfortable living here. Basically, I just can't take a system that actually looks great on S-Video and hamstring it to Composite even with upscaling/filters. I'm going to end up with an audio tuner that does great by *all* of my consoles and allows Composite, S-Video, Component and VGA (HDMI can go to normal texas). Not only that, but I'd at least need to try Genesis games on any HDTV I would consider purchasing, and I just don't consider Target drones allowing me that honor on black friday. |
