Oh no, I sure it isn't. But for a pre-rendered trailer, it's still awesome. I definitely want this game. |

It had better represent the new gameplay concepts that Arkham City brings to the table at the very least. Smoke/flash bombs and large open hunter/prey scenarios were just not part of the first game. Then again, the cutscenes in the first game were higher quality CGI than the actual game, but not by much. Here is hoping they managed to push that engine to its limits. I don't give a crap about rain drops looking like high def plastic, I just want the design changes in game. |

With the girl from Princess Diaries playing Catwoman and someyounguy playing Bane in the next Batman flick (2012), I am going to be very interested whether Arkham City will be the better story this time. That, and I hope they ease up on the Metroid style gameplay and go for more in game strategic combat. Collecting Riddler trophies just seems so not_batman. |

Okay, I preordered this for the 360 back in early September, and the new FX manager assures me it will be in tomorrow, hopefully morning. I've been replaying Arkham Asylum on PC and somewhat dreading the step down in texture quality, lighting and effects that I will no doubt experience with the 360 sequel. But, I am keen on playing something, anything, with some group fighting mechanics. As I know this will be a more of the same but bigger sequel, I am anticipating that. At the very least, I'll get to play with Cat Woman. ;) |

Got it! And it's, uh, Grand Theft Batman, or at least a sandbox version of Arkham Asylum. So far I haven't gotten anywhere in the game because it keeps telling me to do stuff from point A to B and I never get to B. |

Can you not just turn on "Detective Mode" and have it lead you all the way through the game, like you could in the first one? Bel |

Not exactly, there are arrows to follow like Crazy Taxi for some missions. The confusing thing is that the map shows you side quests equally with the main quest, so I keep accidentally starting missions I didn't want to in the process of just playing the game. The Zhazz missions on public phones are fricking annoying in this aspect. Also, I'm only on normal mode so far, but the fights are basically arbitrary so far, I can avoid them or fight them for experience if I want to. Crowds that I would have to prepare for in Arkham Asylum are easy in Arkham City's normal mode. I'm guessing I'm still in the game's easy phase though. |

I managed to get passed the Penguin tonight. Quite a storyline change at that point, but more importantly the game became much more interesting in the Museum and Iceberg Lounge. The fights are still easy compared to Hard mode in Arkham Asylum, but I expected that much. All I want is to unlock the classic Batman suit and the Batman Beyond suit, and to get to some harder fights. I am having a harder time finding the upgrades that will maximize my experience points in this game. The combo and fighting upgrades were the obvious ones to choose in the original. In this one, some of the later combo and fighting upgrades are complicated and situational finishers that should not increase experience points per fight. |

Yeah, so far I'm not impressed. I just finished the main story, and unless it's a diversion the main game outside of the side missions is definitely not as interesting as Arkham Asylum was. I think they're just faking that was the ending though, it started right up with Catwoman and Batman returning to Arkham City after the credits, didn't even go to the title screen. |

I traded my 360 version on Goozex early last month and have the PC version coming in from the same sometime this week. I'll post how it runs on my system since apparently I have an outdated PC now (courtesy of Sonic Generations). I also ordered a newer Athlon X2 6400+ 3.2Ghz CPU this week to compensate. I hear that Arkham City PC needs to be patched to support Direct X 11 effects, but I think those are only high end video card effects that mine probably doesn't have anyway. |

Okay, the PC version came in and after several hours actually finished installing. It works great! The default settings for my system were 1152x6xx (16:9) and high detail, which turns the very last effect off in the settings menu, I don't even know what it does. I tried raising the resolution to 1920x1080 and that seemed about the same, it didn't look better, so I lowered it again to hopefully minimize any frame dropping while I wait for my CPU upgrade to arrive. The benchmark averaged above 31FPS with the following setup. Windows 7 Asus M2V Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 6GB RAM XFX Radeon HD 4850 -edit- I know this game is so last month and all, but a patch just downloaded from GfWL and the game is now totally stable and much prettier than the 360 version. Aside from the fact that I just purchased the main Batman costume pack for $5 this is an awesome deal. I'll post it here so I can find the code more easily later. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/20/free-batman-arkham-city-skin-unlock-code-offered-as-a-thank-y/ Rocksteady is giving us all a free Batman Inc.-style Batman skin for Arkham City, as a "thank you all for your incredible support before, during and after the game's release," according to a statement from director Sefton Hill. With that costume, you'll be all set to travel the world and recruit some international Batmen, although, of course, you won't actually be doing that. The costume will be offered as a free download tomorrow on Xbox Live, PC, and PS3. The world has opened up for us in other ways, however. Along with this announcement, Hill shared a code that will allow you to use any downloadable skin in the campaign without having to complete it first. At the main menu, after choosing your save slot, press left, left, down, down, left, left, right, up, up, down. Then all the costumes you've bought or otherwise acquired will be available. Old school! If you really feel like buying stuff, you have a couple of options there, as well. The "Arkham Bundle" collects the Nightwing Bundle Pack, Robin Bundle Pack, and the Arkham City Skins Pack for 1200 MSP ($15); there's also a Challenge Map Pack including the new Batcave map, the Joker's Carnival, and the Iceberg Lounge, for 240 MSP ($3). Both are due today. |

With all these DLC-crazy publishers, it's gotten to a point where I will actually just wait until a "Complete", "Gold" or "GotY" version comes out before even buying the damn game, just so I can have everything it should have originally came with. Either that, or like the case with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom, wait until the game drops low enough to where I am actually paying the original retail price($39.99) but getting everything with it(for example, both Jill and Shuma, DLC-only characters for $5 a pop aren't included in Ultimate, so I'm not paying more than $30 for it, because I have to come up with an extra $10 just to have the full game). I remember when DLC first hit the original Xbox in the form of a map pack for Unreal Championship. It was free, it was something they did *after* the game had launched, it was what DLC should have been. It's just gotten so fucking far out of hard it makes me sick to my stomach. About the only game I actively participated in its DLC distribution was the new MK and that's just because I knew I'd actually make use of the DLC, unlike a lot of other games where I would rarely, if ever, play it after downloading. I don't mind skin packs and whatnot, but this $15 for costumes is bullshit. I couldn't believe Capcom was trying it with SFIV...I couldn't believe when they kept trying it with MvsC3. Look at DOA3 on Xbox...every character already has a shit-ton of costumes, and then they even put out a disc with more...and it was free! DOA Dimensions on 3DS even has free DLC costumes. Bel |

This is abso-fuckinglutely amazing. After beating the PC version to my satisfaction I traded it on Goozex for about 850 points, a better deal than elsewhere. A couple of weeks later the guy I traded it to messaged me saying that the game wouldn't let him activate it. We've been back and forth trying to troubleshoot for about a week now and I finally got him to email WB about it. They responded that they will not allow a used game to be activated on a new PC, period, it is locked to one Live account F-O-R-E-V-E-R. Unbelievable. Now, just because I actually want this game to be playable on SOMEBODY's fucking computer I'm trying to figure out how to get that exact copy back from this guy through the Goozex system, and I will have to buy points to give to him if that is even possible. That pretty much does it folks, it's retro games only for me from now on. This is going to start happening more and more until it will be impossible to buy used games. I hope these companies all burn and sink into the sea. |

http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/hello-brave-world-console-gaming-003839870.html "The most infamous anti-used game controversy came with the release of last year's Batman: Arkham City. Players who bought the game used missed out on the entire Catwoman campaign as it required a unique code upon playing the game for the first time. Game reseller GameStop eventually made good on the incident by including codes for those who bought the game pre-owned." Oddly enough, just posted on the front page of Yahoo today. It's a scary read... Bel |

It is pretty stupid what they are doing, I just don't think the video game market would be able to sustain $60 per new release without used sales to help. By the way, it looks like the tornados are right down your alley. I hope everything is okay with you and your family. Please let me know. |

They're claiming that once they can squash the used game market, the price of new games would be reduced just due to the fact that they can sustain sales at a certain price point for much longer. My problem with that argument is Steam: Look at any given newer title, it's the exact same price as it is on retail shelves. You don't pay for the disc production, case, insert printing, manual, etc and *it's the exact same price as it is on retail shelves*. With Steam charging full retail for digital games, what's to make these publishers lower anything? Now, granted, when Steam has a sale...they really have a sale, and those prices are fucking insane, but without any sort of sagging sales to warrant the price drop, I think most publishers will keep their games at near-full price for as long as possible. I can see the Xbox and PS game market almost mimicking stuff like Steam or GoG, where only older games are put on sale...and only when they are then considered "older". With my huge-ass stack of games for multiple systems, I don't really mind that...I rarely buy a game the month it is a released...hell, the first 6 months it's released, so I don't think it'll effect me that much. For the few games I would buy the day/week/month they came out, I'd just look for a sale somewhere or end up paying the full retail price(sometimes there's just no way around it). As for the storms, they did hit, but the tornadoes didn't make it as far as they were anticipated to, so we're fine. :) Bel PS: On Batman, can you just get it back from the guy? At least then you'd have the game back, and could get that new Catwoman single player DLC. It'd be better than loosing the one-time use activation code and any DLC you had previously paid for. |

One way or the other I should end up with the same game back, so it won't be a total loss, just not really what I intended (paying $50 for the game and keeping it). I wasn't aware of any new DLC, I might need to check that out. I think the publishers are full of crap that used sales hurt anything. Three years at FX and I saw that the only way that store stayed in business was through used sales, it's the same with Gamestop. The publishers only give a $1-$2 margin of profit on new games, $5-10 at the most, there is no way these stores can stay in business on that alone. FX had to sell new consoles at cost because even though there were about eight stores when I was there, they still couldn't get bulk discounts. On thing is for sure, stores like that aren't going to be around if the new consoles do what they are planning now. |

Well, to sort of take a grain of salt with it, MS and Sony attempted this with the PS3 and 360 as well. GameStop responded by saying they wouldn't carry either product if they did that...which, is an empty threat as GameStop isn't the only place in the world one can buy games. Hell, if they go forward with this digital license thing, they may offer a digital download the same day the disc version hits as all you're really paying for is the license to play the game and not the software itself. It's like when you buy a license for Windows or Office nowadays, and MS just sends you the link to the installer. Honestly, I feel like GameStop needs to just shut the fuck up and be happy that there will still be physical copies to sell at all... Bel |
