HD DVD Bluray Combo Drive; I finally broke down

I have been, and remain, non-sequitur
I finally broke down and bought an HD DVD Bluray combo drive for my HTPC this week. I bought two Superman HD DVDs over the years that just don't seem to work on my 360's HD DVD add-on, so I thought I'd test them before trying to sell them. Well, they don't work on this drive either, and they were brand new when I bought them. I have had this happen with an Ocean's Twelve HD DVD also.

So, bottom line, I can now place a Bluray disk in my drive and have it play, and even tested it on the special edition Dark Night disk today. I seem to have to use Power DVD from Cyber-whoozietwhatizcompany to play either HD disk formats and cannot continue to use XBMC for movie playing.

I just thought I'd ask the gurus around here if that was the case. Also, any other recommendations you all have would be much appreciated.

For HD DVD playback, I think the last version to support it was PowerDVD 7, i would stick with that. I don't know how XBMC plays movies, if it uses software already found on the system or it has its own, but I doubt they would even bother with HD DVD anymore(maybe in an older version). If the HD DVDs you're having problems with are combo discs, that's the issue. Try to find the non-combo disc version and you should be alright. Also, you may try updating PDVD7, it's possible that may fix the issue...or maybe a firmware update for the drive itself.

I've got one of those LG BH200 "Super Blu" players, that plays DVD, HD DVD and Blu-Ray. I got it on clearance for $200, and did so because I had sold my old HD-A1 HD DVD player(thinking I'd just go with my 360 add-on). The earlier model, the BH100, get this, wouldn't do any of the HD-i features of HD DVD discs...so that PiP and other things wouldn't work at all. When I saw that they had fixed that in the BH200, plus the fact that it had this really solid chip for upscaling DVDs, I went for it. It's a great HD DVD player, with its only real issue being that it has problems playing certain versions of Clerks II(there were a couple of different pressings on this one, some will play on it, some wont'). It's a great DVD player, with the *best* upscaling I've ever seen(a good DVD transfer almost looks like an HD movie on this thing).

I've since given up on the whole "fuck Blu-Ray" thing. Granted, I'm not actively supporting them by any means, but I have rented a few and even own five(three were gifts, one was because it was cheaper than the regular DVD version and the last was on clearance for $4). It's sort of like after the Saturn died...I eventually got a PSX.
