Here you will find the rules associated with creating a new character, and a helpful step-by-step guide.
NOTE: You can have up to fifteen characters on this board currently. Please try and keep role-playing with yourself to a minimum (i.e. NPC accounts with PC accounts by the same player in the same thread, etc.).
Step 1: Create a new account using your new character's first and last name. Please use proper capitalization for the account name. Kindred are exempt from needing a last name.
Step 2: Copy the template form from the Blank Character Application, and create a new thread in the New/Unapproved Characters forum. Use your character's first and last name as the title for the thread. Fill out all the fields that have an asterisk. You can fill out more of the application, but only the fields with an asterisk are required to receive your character's jewels.
NOTE: If you are planning on applying for a Dual Caste Male or Triple Caste Female, please see the rules for these types of characters. Dual and triple caste characters will not be given as a player's first character. These castes are rare, unique, and require quality role playing. We'd like to see what you're made of before giving you one of these.
Step 3: A staff member will roll jewels for your character. If this is your first character with us, you have the option of asking for our "Beginner Roll”. This will ensure your character will have a Birthright Jewel of Rose, Summer Sky, or Purple Dusk. The Beginner Roll is only available once, and only for your first character. Please request it in the “Birthright Jewel” field of the template, if this is the roll you want. If you do not specify that you want the Beginner Roll, the staff will assume that you wish to receive a normal jewel roll.
Dark Jeweled Character Ratio: You may be wondering how many dark jeweled characters you’re allowed to have, and when you can have them. Here we’re using a ratio of 2:1 (LJ:DJ) based upon your character’s Birthright (So a Summer Sky descended to say Green would not count as your dark jewel ratio because the Summer Sky is a light Birthright). So think of things in trios. You have one character rolled, and you receive a light Birthright, your next character will be rolled from the full scale again. If you receive a dark jewel on your second character, the third will be rolled from a light jeweled Birthright scale. If you receive the dark jewel as your first character the second two will be light, and if the first two are light, your third will be dark. After three characters, the trio starts anew.
Basic information about the Jewels can be found here.
Step 4: Once you have your jewels, update your application and continue to fill the remaining fields. As you fill out your application, please edit your first post, no need to keep reposting.
Minimum word count for Single Castes: Appearance: At least 250 words Personality: At least 250 words History: At least 600 words
We will expect more detail on Dark Birthright jeweled characters, and the staff may ask for expansion of the above fields if we feel it will greatly improve your character. Keep in mind these are the minimums.
Minimum word count for Dual Caste Females: Appearance: At least 350 words Personality: At least 350 words History: At least 1000 words
We will expect more detail on Dark Birthright jeweled characters, and the staff may ask for expansion of the above fields if we feel it will greatly improve your character. Keep in mind these are the minimums. In order to apply for one of these characters, you need to have a previous character with 15-20 posts. We want to make sure that you are active and a quality writer before we award you such a rare character. These characters require approval from two of the staff.
Minimum word count for Dual Caste Males and Triple Caste Females: Appearance: At least 600 words Personality: At least 600 words History: At least 1600 words
We will expect more detail on Dark Birthright jeweled characters, and the staff may ask for expansion of the above fields if we feel it will greatly improve your character. Keep in mind these are the minimums. These are exceptionally rare and special characters and the staff reserve the right to outright deny the application of one of these individuals. If this is the case, you will not receive a review, simply the denial. These characters are special and will only be allowed to go to our most active and strongest members. Do not just apply for one without a great story. A reason for why they need to have these additional castes and what you intend to do with them is required. Only one of these characters will be accepted per player. You can retire one and receive another. These characters require approval from three of the staff. Like the dual caste females, these characters also require that you have at least one very active character with us already. These will not be awarded for first-time players, or players returning off a long hiatus.
Please look at our Age Range Guide for information on Long-lived and Short-lived characters.
Basic information about castes can be found here. Also, please look at the current Caste Caps thread to see which castes are still available.
Any Race from Anne Bishop’s world is allowed, obviously. Though if you wish to play a character in a territory not of their birth (or if it’s not an open territory here at this point), your background must explain why. Also, half breeds are acceptable – though we’ll only allow so many half-breeds. Any odd ones in particular (say a Dea Al Mon/Hayllian) and how that all came about (in this case races from different Realms) has to be explained as well. More information about Races can be found here.
At present certain Kindred characters are only available as award prizes. You can find more information about Kindred characters here.
At present demon-dead characters among the Living Realms are only available as award prizes. You can find more information about Demon Dead characters here.
Step 5: Once your application is complete, please post in the Pending Application List thread to let the staff know that your application is ready for review. The staff will send you review notes via PM if they feel any part of your application needs work, and/or further approval. Staff aim to review sheets within 24-72 hours of them being completed, please do not pm us about them being reviewed before this.
NOTE: At any point in the application process, you can ask for a lighter Jewel than you received, be it a lighter Birthright, or Offering, or, from the start, you can ask for a light roll, even if normally you'd be on a dark roll or another full roll. Basically, you can ask for light/lighter all you like, but will never be given darker.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Birthright Sapphire and Red jeweled characters will be required to have two staff approvals before your character can go and play.
Step 6: Once your character is approved, a staff member will set up your character to a playable account. You can then post in the Face Claim thread to claim a play-by for your character, if you haven't already. Please check out our Plot Board for information on personal, territory, and site-wide plots that are currently happening.
Step 7: Go have fun!
