We encourage players to have at least a rudimentary idea of what their lower formations look like. This does not mean you have to work out your entire order of battle down to company level, but merely to determine or decide what your national standard is. For this we provide below a common set up for battalions and regiments in this era. This is a general guide and there can be exceptions. If you feel you need an exception, please provide the staff with your reasoning as such and we can discuss your situation. While these are not perfectly accurate figures, they should give an idea of what is acceptable. Below is information on the standard pay and upkeep expenses for each type of unit, whether infantry, cavalry, artillery or engineers and for different sizes of formations; full battalions of infantry, regiments of cavalry, and for full companies of infantry, squadrons of cavalry, companies of infantry and batteries of artillery. If someone wishes to use a non-standard set up, we have other figures to help you determine the sums required to pay and maintain your formation. Army For Guard units add %20 to the final sum; for reserve units subtract %50 when not mobilized; for militia subtract %75; for irregulars subtract %60. Infantry Battalion: Infantry battalions are made up of companies. The exact number of companies varies, but we will use 10 as the standard. A standard company is 100 men. Upkeep: 1 full battalion (1000 men) 1312.5 multiplied by your GDP per capita. 1 full company (100 men) requires the number 128.35 multiplied by your GDP per capita. Cavalry Regiment: Cavalry regiments are made up of squadrons. The exact number of squadrons varies, but we will use 6 as the standard. A standard squadron is 170 men. 1 full regiments (1020 men) 1579.2 multiplied by your GDP per capita. 1 full squadron (170 men) requires the number 247.2 multiplied by your GDP per capita. Artillery Battery: We will assume the standard battery is of 6 guns and 135 men. 1 battery (135 men) 158.2 multiplied by your GDP per capita. Engineer Company: We will assume the standard company 100 men. 1 company (100 men) 112 multiplied by your GDP per capita. Navy f the ship was built in the last twenty years, mulitply its tonnage by 0.7 to get the cost, in pounds sterling. If the ship is between twenty and forty years old, multiply it by 1.1 to get the same. If the ship is older than forty, multiply it by 1.3. For a ship that is in reserve on a month or less notice (i.e. one that can be ready to sail in a month or less), the upkeep cost is only two thirds of the normal. For a ship that is mothballed, where it will take longer than one month to bring to fighting capacity, it only costs one third of the regular amount. For general reference I have attached a list of different ships, ordered by the amount of guns, their tonnage, and their cost. This is not an exhaustive list, and there are many variables, however it should do as a general guide. 120 gun ship of the line - 2602 tons - £100,394 90 gun ship of the line - 2279 tons - £71,732 74 gun ship of the line - 1741 tons - £64,073 52 gun frigate - 1468 tons - £41,355 46 gun frigate - 1063 tons - £31,316 28 gun frigate - 500 tons - £17,120 18 gun corvette - 456 tons - £13,037 18 gun brig - 382 tons - £10,123 10 gun brig - 235 tons - £6,721 0 gun schooner - 183 tons - £4,975 0 gun cutter - 161 tons - £4,502 Recruitment Attached are the costs for raising new regular units. As above, guards are, an additional %20; for reserve units subtract %20; for militia subtract %50; for irregulars subtract %60. These are assumed to be standard units on the same scale as the standard ones above, we also have figures to allow for non-standard formations, so do not feel that you must use the standard units. Infantry: Infantry units will be raised in battalion size generally, with however many companies your national standard requires. Each new Company will cost your GDP per capita multiplied by 40 to recruit, clothe and train. And additional 35 x your GDP Per Capita will be required to form the battalion headquarters. These costs do not include firearms or other weaponry. Cavalry: Cavalry units will be raised in regiment size generally, with however many squadrons your national standard requires. Each new squadron will cost your GDP per capita multiplied by 102 to recruit, clothe and train. And additional 70 x your GDP Per Capita will be required to form the regimental headquarters. These costs do not include firearms or other weaponry. Artillery: Artillery units will be raised in battery size generally, with however many men and artillery pieces your national standard requires. Each new battery will cost your GDP per capita multiplied by 94 to recruit, clothe and train. These costs do not include firearms, artillery pieces or any other weaponry. Engineer, Sapper and Miner: Engineer, Sapper and Miner units will be raised in company size generally, with however many men your national standard requires. Each new company will cost your GDP per capita multiplied by 128 to recruit, clothe and train. These costs do not include firearms or any other weaponry. |
