Henderson's Boys - Secret Army
Robert Muchamore
Book Review

Secret Army is the third in Robert Muchamore's Henderson's Boys series. Henderson's Boy is a best selling CHERUB Series, Spin Off, written about the start of CHERUB and the first missions.

It starts characters Mark Kilgour, Rosie and Paul Clarke, PT Bivott and Charles Henderson who all appeared in the first two Henderson's Boys books The Escape and Eagle Day.

Secret Army also introduces a whole heap of new characters that form the beginning of CHERUB. These include Joan Henderson (Charles' Wife), Mason and Troy LeConte, who are CHERUBs newest recruits.

Secret Army outlines the first CHERUB Campus as well as a insight into life back in Britain 1941. It is very different from the first two Henderson's Boys books as each focuses on a different overall goal or topic as such.

For example, The Escape was based around an escape, then Eagle Day was based around a mission. Secret Army is based around a Major Training exercise, thus, making each of the Henderson's Boy books different.

Robert Muchamore uses the same rightly style right through the Henderson's Boys books. It is his own writing style, but it differers from CHERUB, which is set nowadays to Henderson's Boys which is set in World War II.

As said early in the review, Secret Army provides and insight to the world of 1941 and in particular in the middle of World War II. Although, it is outlining the basics, Robert's style of writing make is interesting to read none the less.

Secret Army's cover is a different style to the first two Henderson's Boys books and the CHERUB Series in general. Although the cover is different, it fits the theme of the book and is still appealing to people who have yet not discovered the Henderson's Boys and/or the CHERUB Series books.

My favourite Character was Paul Clarke because Secret Army showed a more diverse personality that we do not see in the first two Henderson's Boys books. He expands as a person also in the book and shows a different side to the one portrayed in the first two books.

Often, characters are portrayed to be different to what they would be or are in others parts of the books or different books in a whole. Paul Clarke is one such case as he was portrayed as a shy character in the first two Henderson's Boys books. It is understandable that a character will change overtime, but I think that he was portrayed slightly wrong.

The book started of with a different setting to the rest of the book which provided a interesting read and the progressed to follow through with that part of the story and introduce it into the main story extremely well.

Also, in the opening sequence of the book a attack by German Planes on a club was a unexpected turn that once again drew the readers into the book.

The book provided readers with some interesting turns and twists that again drew them in. It also made the story unpredictable at times which once again worked in the authors favour to keep the page turning.

Robert Muchamore has once again pushed himself to the limits and beyond to produce another fantastic novel. It shows Robert's talent to write a different style of books than he would normally write, thus, proving he is a fantastic author.

Summing it up, Secret Army has provided a delightful and enjoyable read. I would recommend Secret Army to everybody who is looking for a new book to read or has yet to find a book wish they find the need to devour!

I would Rate Secret Army a 9/10 as it is a enjoyable read, but I do believe that some parts of the story could be expanded on and others shortened.
