The doors to the girls lounge opened loudly and Rogue came inside, a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows to keep her company. She didn’t bother looking around to see who was there and who wasn’t as she went over to the couch and lay down with a sigh. She cuddled up with a cushion before turning the large television in front of her on with the remote. She was dressed very simply in a ripped sports top and black leggings which showed of her toned legs. She wasn’t bothered though since she was tired of the long day and would probably go to bed in a little while. Her hair was down around her shoulders and she ran a gloved hand through it absentmindedly when she turned the TV channel over in an attempt to find something interesting to watch. She finally settled for one of those old romance movies which Kitty particularly liked. Rogue took a sip of her hot drink as her thoughts flickered from the film to her day. Again, she’d spent a good few hours training and the rest wandering around the institute. She was getting a little tired of that usual routine. She wanted something to happen; something different…She looked away from the set and towards the window. Perhaps she could go out tonight, to a club or simply anywhere. She lost track of her thoughts when the door opened behind her. |

Madelyne was bored, she'd had nothing to do for what felt like forever, and, unlike in her old life, she didnt have retail therapy to fall back on. It had been hard, she reflected, to adjust to this new life, of being treated as the same as evrybody else. The whole process had felt unnatural, but a few wellaimed verbal barbs from some of the less patient inhabitants of the Mansion had soon put paid to any airs and graces she might have had. Not that she deserved to have any, she was a freak, a mutant, something she had always despised, and whats more she was surrounded by them. The funny thing was, she felt more at home here than she had in her old life, she didn't have to try here, she felt. She could just be herself, but then again; who was she? She'd been playing the spoilt little rich girl for so long that she had forgotten how to be anything else. Well she'd just have to try, she told herself firmly. Shaking her head like a dog shaking off water, she pushed the door open and walked into the Girls Lounge. And almost walked straight back out again, sitting there was the girl called Rogue. Madelyne had heard rumours about her, about her strange powers and even stranger temperament. Before she came her, Madelyne would never even have considered talking to her, or even staying in the same room as her. But, as Madelyne sternly reminded herself, that was the old Madelyne. The new Madelyne would stay and talk to this Rogue girl, or at least, stay in the same room as her for longer than it took to back out. Taking a deep breath Madelyne stepped furhter into the room, closing the door behind her. "Hey, I'm Madelyne" She said, extending her hand towards her. |

Rogue turned her head when she heard the doors opened, curious to see who it would be. She didn’t know the brunette girl who stepped inside. She’d seen her around though and heard her talk once or twice. She gave the impression of a rich girl with her pretty clothes and manners…although Rogue wouldn’t hold that against anyone. When the girl introduced herself, Rogue smiled and shook her hand with her gloved one. “Hey, Ah’m Rogue,” she replied, letting go and wondering whether she should move over to let her sit down since she was hogging the couch. She wasn’t blind; she’d seen the way the girl reacted when she saw her. She knew that the students here were frightened of her powers and although she’d given up trying to defend them, it still hurt. The looks she was given sometimes made her feel like an unwanted parasite... …Still, she moved over for this girl to sit down if she wanted to and gestured to the TV. “Ah’m not really watchin’ anything so it’s yours if ya want.” |

“Hey, Ah’m Rogue,” Madelyne was surprised, she had not expected such a friendly reception from her. *I guess appearances can be deceptive* Madelyne mused silently. Shaking Rogues hand warmly, Madelyne sat down beside her and said "Nah you're okay, nothing much really on this time of day, perhaps night might be a more accurate word for this though..." With this she gestured out the window at the darkened sky before letting her hand fall to her lap. She had seen the momentary look of hesitation in Rogues eyes before she had moved over, she knew that look well, having worn it herself many times before she had learned to control her powers. To this day she sometimes felt the way Rogue did, that noone could ever get close to her. She couldnt help but feel that she was overreacting just a little after all Rogue just sucked peoples energy, she didn't cover them in gloop or burn their skin with a touch. Was it superficial of her to dismiss something just because its effects were not visible? Maybe she hadn't come as far as she'd thought. More to stop herself brooding than anything else Madelyne turned and spoke again "So what have you been up to? Havent seen you around much lately..." |

Rogue nodded in agreement. The film on wasn’t very inspiring. She didn’t really get the point of these old romance movies. The actress wasn’t very good and the southern accent she was trying to do was awful; Leave the accent to the pros, she thought, turning her attention back onto Madelyne. “Not a lot,” she admitted wearily. “Just been driving around town. There isn’t a lot to do here apart from laze about.” Sure there was the Danger Room but she couldn’t train all of the time, and the same with the tennis courts and swimming pool. A girl needed some fun which wasn’t always sport related. “What about you?” She took a sip from her hot chocolate and felt the cup warm her hands nicely. |

Madelyne nodded in agreement, saying "just....adjusting really, the difference between here and my old life are startling. Feels weird not being waited on hand and foot anymore. I can even use my powers to scare people into doing my bidding!" This last part was intended as a joke, though how much of one Madelyne didn't know. She hadn't had much contact with home since she'd left, almost none in fact, but she'd heard through the grapevine that Leila, her younger sister, had developed powers, remarkably similiar to hers but had chosen a slightly darker route than she had. Leila had always seemed like the last person Madelyne would have suspected of harbouring villianous intentions and yet, the information seemed to be reliable. Leila Marcus had joined the Brotherhood. This had made Madelyne slightly edgy, doubting herself, if the darkness could run in her littls sisters veins, it could also run in hers...could she trust herself anymore? Since she had found out, she had removed herself from all danger room training sessions, a fact which had not gone unnoticed by the other students, sharp as they were....she supposed one day she would have to face up to her fears but that day would not be today. Turnign to Rogue again, she asked "So how do you deal with it? With your powers?" |

Rogue smiled- realising how odd a change it must be for the young woman. It sounded as though she used to have a pretty nice life- being waited on etc. Rogue had never had such luxury; she'd always done things for herself for as long as she could remember. Sighing- she answered the question, glancing down at her hands as she spoke. "Ah don't really see it as dealing with it...Ah’ve just learnt to accept it. The professor always says there's hope of learning control, but to be honest, Ah highly doubt it... an accepting it hurts less," she added quietly. She realised she was sounding too sad for a pleasant conversation so she tried stirring it away from herself. Her powers always made her depressed and it was better to think of other things. She'd noticed how Madelyne had dropped out of her training and focused on that, making a quick guess. "Ya powers must be hard to cope with too...is that why ya quit the training?" |

Madelyne smiled sympathetically, she knew what Rogue was going through, she was going through something similiar - in regards to both her powers and her old lifestyle. It was easy to miss being pampered and doted upon. "Yeah I know what you mean, still at least you're here, in a place where moreorless everyone accepts you" She said, trying to cheer Rogue up, though realising as she said it that her answer really wasnt satisfactory. Rogue seemed pretty down on her powers, though Madelyne thought they were actually quite good, in the grand scheme of things. In answer to Rogues next question Madelyne bowed her head a little, she really didnt like to talk about it but supposed she would have to at some point. Screwing up her courage she said haltingly "Errr well my sister....Leila....she, erm, joined the brotherhood. Erm I just found out, it made me think....I mean none of my family are exactly shining beacons but I never thought anything like this could happen. It made me think, what if I'm like her? Made me doubt myself.....thats why I pulled out of training, I couldnt trust myself anymore. Stupid, huh?" Madelyne finished, looking shamefaced. |

“Yeah, ah guess,” she answered slowly, not really feeling that much better. She knew that it was definitely better here than struggling in life alone, yet it was worse too because everyone here knew what she could do. She hated using her powers on others though relied on them at the same time because she was pretty much defenceless without them. Rogue watched Madelyne carefully as she spoke and she took in her words sympathetically. There was nothing worse then to be betrayed and the closer they were to you the more it hurt. She could vouch for that personally. “Ya should never doubt yaself, sugah, that gives others reason to do the same,” she said, before continuing, “Ya know yaself better than anyone else, an’ ya still here with the X-men. That’s gotta count for somthin’.” |

"Ya should never doubt yaself, sugah, that gives others reason to do the same" Madelyne had never thought about it that way, not that she had thought about it too much, she quite liked to wallow in self-pity sometimes. This was definitely one of those times were self-pity was acceptable, she thought to herself. But, to give her credit, Rogue was definitely better at the words of wisdom stuff than she was. With a brave attempt at a smile Madelynhe said, "I guess you're right Rogue, I don't know, Being stuck in here all day is giving me cabin fever. Just wish something would happen around this place, give me something to do...." Madelyne guessed Rogue would be able to identify with the feelings of frustration she was having. after all they both liked a good fight didnt they? Not that a lust for violence was exactly unique around here. With a sudden realisation Madelyne asked "Hey havent seen anyone else around here for a while, where is everyone? |

Sighing, Rogue had to agree with her; it was painstakingly boring around here. No wonder she was snuggled up on a couch, watching some boring movie with hot chocolate…ah well. Rogue was one of those people who enjoyed some excitement in her unusual life, and she assumed Madelyne was too by the way she spoke. “Too true. I’m goin’ crazy just wallowing around here. What Ah’d really like would be to sneak out and maybe shoot some pool…though with Wolverines sensors around the grounds that would be highly risky…unless ya like havin’ weeks of extra training.” Rogue shrugged to her later question. “Ah think most the little ones are tucked up in bed…Ah haven’t seen anyone else.” It was nearing eleven at night and everyone knew how annoyingly strict Xavier was about curfews and sleeping late. He was the same with everyone, even though Rogue was a legal woman who could rightfully stay out until however late she wanted…It was his house though and his rules so she had to respect them… Damn bald telepath. |

Madelyne smiled at Rogue, "pool does sound like fun right about now" She agreed, Wolverine would present more of a problem however but Madelyne was sure she had a way around that "As for Wolverine, I'm sure he wouldnt be quite so tough when he's been stuck to the ground on all fours.....and the extra training would be a welcome change in routine!" She said, not entirely seriously. *In bed, eh?* thought Madelyne at Rogues next comment, *Best place for them* Madelyne was not very fond of children, to say the least. They were loud, rude and always messed up her clothes somehow. As far as she was concerned the children could stay in bed. "What about the people our age?" She asked, "They cant all be in bed can they? Its still early." Realising that her last statement had almost mirrored the dialogue onscreen, Madelyne turned her attention to it again "Mind if we switch?" She asked |

Rogue waved a hand to the TV and referred to that and the other kids, “Ah don’t know. They’re probably doin’ whatever they find most amusing…and go ahead; if Ah listen to anymore of that then ah’ll go crazy…” Her thoughts, however, were occupied on something else. An idea had just formed in her mind and she was wondering whether or not she should try it… “Are ya really that bored?” she asked curiously after a few seconds, the gears in her head turning. “How ‘bout we sneak out an’ play some pool? Betta’ than lazing’ around here and it could be fun.” All it would take was to climb out of the window and somehow jump down to the ground below without breaking any bones. They’d then have to get out of the main gate without the security cameras and sensors picking them up…and she’d have to change aswell…there was no way she would be seen in town in her present dressing. Perhaps it’s too risky, she thought after musing about it. “Though ah guess it’s too much.” |

"Great....." Madelyne leaned over to change the channel freezing in midair as she heard Rogues next remark. The idea of breaking out of here was tempting but there was always the problem of not being caught and of how they would get out. Madelyne would have no problems, her powers enabling her to stick to and scale walls but she suspected Rogue might have more of a problem. She doubted she could climb down the wall and carry her at the same time. "Well it is risky but I guess thats what makes it fun, better than staying here to dry up and wither away" Madelyne said, settling herself back down in her seat, having switched the TV onto something a little more her style. Regarding Rogue, she wondered whether she had hit the right note, something told her Rogue wouldnt be one to turn down something because it was risky. Getting up, she walked to the window, looking out over the grounds...."wouldnt be too hard," she said, almost to herself. "Just need to get behind those trees....it is a lovely night out there, so how about it?" she asked, looking at Rogue slyly. ~~CLOSED~~ |
