Punches from the Punch Dimension
|
*Note: This is a complicated story, and it would take commitment to it by every player on the board, so knowing how difficult it would be, I am posting this here to feel out if people are interested in playing it. Premise: Charles Xavier, the beacon of peace between mutant and man, is gone, disappeared under mysterious circumstances and the school has been surviving without him as best as it can, thanks to the leadership of Mina Harker... but what if Xavier never formed his school? What if the staff and students of XSFGY had never been called by him to learn how to control their abilities, and how to use them for the greater good? Would Magneto have taken over the world? What path would those he had helped taken? What of those who had never come to the school? Would their lives have been changed without the X-Men to curtail their activities? In the blink of an eye, something changes the world and life has changed for X-Men and Brotherhood alike. This is no House of M or Age of Apocalypse. No mutant extinction or victory over humanity. The world seems perfectly normal, but something Sinister brews beneath the surface, and shadowy figures are about to launch the world into a war that can only be stopped by the X-Men... unfortunately, there are no X-Men, and there never were. Who are you in this new world? Do you stand for peace or war? Do old ties still exist or are lovers now enemies? This is a world without Xavier. God help us all. Flow of Events: The world changes overnight, and every character on the board is unaware of the change. It is the week before a major election, and Scott Essex is the forerunner in the New York senatorial race, running on a pro-mutant platform. If he is elected, he will be the first mutant in the US Senate, and thanks to the grooming of his father Nathaniel Essex and the shrewd politics of his campaign manager/brother Alex, it looks as if he has already got the seat. But an assassination attempt on his life brings to light an underworld of bigotry, manipulation and hidden factions of friend and foe. The only ones who remember the world that was are the reality warpers like Wanda Maximoff, Anna Cuff, Arthur Centino and no one believes them. Locked away in an institution, they beg for anyone to hear their words and are ignored by everyone... except for their new therapist, Jean Grey. Characters will have to chose a side... will they help to protect the world Scott will be instrumental in bringing about, or will they work to destroy it? And, which side will ultimately bring about the restoration of the world they have forgotten? Characters involved/needed: Everybody Tenative Duration As long as it takes **This is a Scott-Centric description because, well, I play Scott and can't speak for anyone else, but he is only a key factor in the story. He is not the end all-be all. There are major roles for anyone who wants one, X-Man or Brotherhood, as well as opportunities for one time only NPCs (Though I will be playing Nathaniel Essex for this one;)) |

Very interesting. So would both 'continuities' be playing at the same time, as in you could go to the mansion and join a cake baking board, and at the same time with the same character in the alternative universe do something else. Or would the site completely change to this new story and change back later? Also, since I'd rather not have Alex in a boarding school in France, Anyone need a spy? If we do this at all that is. Rawson could also be handy to someone of less than honorable intent |

Hmm, okay. Legard's question is a good one. From the way I'm reading the description however, it seems that everything on the board would now take place in the 'new world'. Sorry to be a downer, but if that's how it is, then I really wouldn't want to take part. I'm enjoying the threads and plot lines my characters have going currently and don't want to suddenly start fresh with new histories, relationships, and experiences/personalities for however long it takes to switch back to the current world. Like always, I have several questions -- 1. Would characters remember what had occurred when the world is switched back? 2. Exactly how long would this take to complete? It sounds a bit broad and feels like it would take ages to play through since there isn't one set of events. 3. Like Alex asked, would you be able to still post in good ol' XMR threads? Or would it now be 'new world' threads only? I think that if Warren's AU board idea came into play, this would make for an interesting premise. However, I think it would work better as a thread, or just a few threads, sort of like the Dreams threads are working, rather than an entire board change. |

It would probably be an AU which means you would still be able to post in the normal XMR threads. Ari's other questions will be answered as we develop this more. This is just a feeling out to see if people are interested in doing it so it definitely won't start anytime soon. Probably no earlier than after the wedding in February. |

Not to be a radical, but we could start a new site. It seems like it might be too large for the AU boards. I'm just saying |

Who wants to run a new site though or build one for a contained story? There is a plot here, and it is not all encompassing so that we'd need seperate forums for europe or the moon or whatever. It's set in New York, and the characters who would be involved in major ways would be in New York. |

I think it would be easiest to tag each of the plot threads with something like [WWX] in the summary, so there would be no confusion as to what threads were AU and which were not. *shrugs* And oi, without Xavier, Rosie would probably be dead... :( Well, maybe she'd end up in the insane asylum, or with the Brotherhood...hmm.... And Kate and Xavier...who knows.... |

I think it sounds like an awesome Idea. The plot sounds like something you can take off with and have fun with, but it's definitely going to need some in depth explanation if/when it is instigated. I think that it's a great opportunity to test out or use our characters in a way that we have not yet used them. |

I'm all for it. But I do believe we should push for the AU boards as has been suggested. This will solve all confusion. *edit* Most confusion. |

I myself am all for it, as long as its kept clear from the rest of the boards to avoid confussion. Really I see no harm in it.. A little change from what you would normally play. Honestly I think it would be fun....besides, it doesn't have to distract everyone from their current of upcoming involvement in major or personal plots. ...Plus, I kinda like the thought of an AU Avery. She doesn't agree with the co-existance of human and mutant and would do anything in her power to hinder that....all this needs is a little guidence to do so.. ^_^ |

I haven't made specific thread ideas or plot points because I wanted to see if people were interested in this before I got too deep in it. But basically, here is my part of the story as involving my characters and Jean's since we've been talking about it, so maybe it will give an idea of what I am thinking. Scott Essex is running for a senatorial seat, the first mutant in the House, with his brother heading his campaign and security. During a rally, an assassination attempt is made on his life by Pietro Maximoff, who is caught by Alex and questioned. Pietro's sister is in an insane asylum, alongside a few others like Arthur Centino, who believe that the world is not supposed to be like this, that a piece is missing. Shadowy figures have approached Pietro, promising to help him free his sister, if Candidate Essex dies. Alex begins to investigate into what is going on and discovers that Wanda, Arthur and whoever else are being helped by Jean Grey, their therapist, and Scott insists on seeing her. They will learn that Scott's rise to the senate is not entirely on the up and up, but why would someone want him in the House, what are their ulterior motives, who are they, how will this affect man and mutant? And, are Jean's patients really mad, or is their truth to what they are saying? That's sort of the rough idea. Your characters can be involved however they want-- within the campaign, the mental hospital, society in general, even part of the "bad guys" or some sort of rebellion that wants to change the worlds using this political upheaval for their own purposes. Does that help at all? I don't mind the idea of AU. I just think it will be a good story Other characters can have their own stories as long as eventually the stories meet up and become the one to restore the world, and frankly, I am open to suggestion as to how and why the world changed. House of M happened because the Scarlet Witch wished it into place, Age of Apocalypse because a time traveller killed Xavier, Heroes Reborn because Franklin Richards wanted to save his family. We can find our own unique way to bring about the AU, and our own way to end it. |

some explanation ideas! - the mutants in the asylum did something in the real world that changed everything. Which is why the remember(ish) the old world - A mutant with the power to merge dimensions, merges a mutant less world with the real one, making a middle ground. Only way to get things normal again? Kill the mutant (who happens to be a little toddler, no wait. A kitten!) - Something happens in the original dimension that would create a crazy paradox!. So the universe (rather than implode) creates this tangent universe that, once destroyed as the universe plans, will merge back in with the regular one, moments before the potential paradox is committed. Something that happened in the tangent universe will stp the paradox from happening. Now the cheap(er) explanations! - Dream - twilight zone - alternate dimension - Quicksilver day dreaming, all of it happens in 3 seconds of real time - It's all a simulation! Rosie was playing with the danger room controls |
