With her cell phone in hand, the highlighted text illuminating Ari’s name and number. Her thumb hovered over the okay button as she made her decision. It was silly for her to hesitate. She was her best friend, after all. It wouldn’t be that much of a bother to ask her for help, the worse she could say was no.

It had been so long since the two had spent some actual time together. It hurt more to say they didn’t have time, yet she couldn’t deny that the two had been actively tied up in their own lives. The further things went on, the less they seemed to see each other. Not to mention that Ari and Warren were now officially together, and Avery really didn’t with to ‘get in the way’ for lack of better words. And though her time together with Pietro was never that long, Avery too was treading into a new relationship. The more she thought of Ari and herself and their lack of girl time, the more began to bother her a bit. She would never want for them to grow apart, for Ari was the best friend she’d had since moving to the institute. The whole reason she was shedding her antisocial self. It would be terrible to drift apart when they lived under the same roof. What would she do when Ari decided to strike out on her own and move out?

It was decided then that no more time would be wasted. Plus, they had much catching up to do...Things that they couldn’t truly talk about when others were about. It’d been forever since they had a typical girl talk. With that she firmly pressed the okay button, sending the rings in through Ari’s phone. As she waited for an answer she paced her room, twisting a long lock as she did so.

“Hey Ari!” The elven chirped in her usual perky tones, ones she reserved for close friends, once Ari had picked up. “I was wonderin’.....How’d ya feel ‘bout goin’ to New York...? I need to find a really nice dress for the weddin’ an’ I thought ya might wanna go...Ya know I’ve got no taste for clothes...”

It may not seem like a difficult task for a girl to find a dress she liked. At least if you asked a man it would be simple...but then, what did they know? Finding a dress you liked and that suited you was a task in itself. When you were the color of frosty mint it was doubly hard. Avery needed help to be sure. If not she’d never find one.. And this time, not only did she wish to look nice, but there was a certain someone she wished to impress. She prayed that Ari was not busy.

Ari gave a slight yawn, giving a disdainful look around her room at the several boxes still cluttering her new space. She didn't know why it was taking her so long to unpack completely. Okay, well she did. Christmas had just passed, she'd been spending all the time she could with Warren, and there were generally always better things to do than unpack.

Now she had free time though. No dates to go on, no Christmas gifts left to buy or make. Nothing to use as an excuse. Sighing softly, Ari pulled down a box from the pile labeled 'Purses'. Her new room on the staff floor had much more ample space in the closets than the student dorms did. Yay for the perks of being a Senior X-Man.

Concentrating on emptying the box of purses, Ari heard the muffled sound of her phone vibrating and then ringing. Abandoning the box, she leaped towards the bed, wanting to answer before her voicemail kicked in.

Avery's name popped up on the screen and she grinned and answered promptly, "Hey Ave!" Hearing the elven's request, Ari promptly tossed the purse she was holding over her shoulder. "Of course I want to go," she replied earnestly. "You know you don't have bad fashion sense," she said into the phone, rolling her eyes in a good-natured manner. "But I definitely want to help you pick a dress."

The truth was, she felt like she hadn't properly had time with Avery in a long while. Of course, they'd seen each other around the mansion and spoken and stuff. But they hadn't had actual time together. No private conversations and proper dishing. And there was definitely plenty for them to talk about. "I'll meet you in a few minutes..."

Pulling on a pair of low-top Chuck Taylors, Ari slipped on her coat, scarf, and hat. Grabbing her purse, she left to Avery's room. It was incredibly convenient being on the same floor. Giving a quick knock on Avery's door, Ari grinned, and jokingly said into the door, "I'm ready for our date, dearie."

On the other end of the phone Avery’s smile began to grow as Ari, not surprisingly, lifted her spirits. The girl knew right where to poke her when she was being silly, and when Avery put herself down, she took it all in stride. She was sure had the pair grown up together they would have been two inseparable little girls.

"I'll meet you in a few minutes..." Ari tied things up before they got into one of those conversations where it takes hours to hang up.

“Kay!” Avery agreed before she closed her phone. To this she did a little jiggy dance, expressing her excitement of going shopping with her best bud. Oh yes, there was a reason why Avery didn’t dance in public.

Throwing on her long on her cream winters coat, she also donned a pair of dark denim jeans, a red halter top and a pair of heeled, long boots. Lastly she adjusted her silver chain around her neck, its garnet pendant jingling on the sting. She might as well stroll the streets of New York naked without her image inducer...The reaction would still be the same.

Fluting ears twitched as she heard Ari’s door close down the hall. It was very comforting to know that if she ever needed her, the glass maker was just a few steps away. Though Avery would be reluctant before bursting into her room whenever she pleased. One did not know when she could be in there doing....rather, with company. Therefore she respected Ari’s privacy and often gave her a little jingle first.

Giving a quick knock on Avery's door, Ari grinned, and jokingly said into the door, "I'm ready for our date, dearie."

Avery chuckled and shook her head, god knows the two were hardly serious between each other. Grinning she took two bounds to get to the door before swinging it wide with a dramatic look of pleasant surprise.

“Vhy....Draaahling. You are looking absolutely voooonderful!” Her voice purred doing her best Eva Gabor impression, which was practically identical. Avery had fallen in love with her voice as a child in the Disney movies, she was so charming and lady like.

Giving Ari a silly grin she pulled her purse up over her shoulder and closed the door behind her. Staring the walk down to the garage, Avery flicked on her inducer and said.

“Seriously though, I do need your help. I wanna look especially nice for the wedding’. I was kinda asked to play.. Soo somethin’ kinda fancy, without goin’ over the top...somethin’ mature but not skanky...” The cloaked elven flashed a smirk at this. Perhaps looking nice as she was performing for the wedding was not the only reason she wished to look her best.. Accompanying Pietro in the piece they were to play, she wished nothing more but to impress him. That for once he would be lost for words instead of her. Though that was something she kept to herself just yet.

“Wonder who’s car we should take...?” She asked with a risen brow. There were more cars at the institute at their disposal besides their own. Though some were off limits, a few little hot numbers remained so that the two could ride in style. Being in their position had perks just as well as it did responsibilities.

Ari stepped back as the door to Avery's room flung open. Letting out a flow of laughter at the elven's Eva Gabor impersonation, Ari gave her friend a once over. "Looking good Avery." Truly, Avery did look good; her hair and skin seemed to pop against the cream and red of her outfit. Not to mention a pair of sexy boots always added to a girl's hotness. Ari might have lamented her choice of sneakers, but hey she was planning on doing shopping. Heels would only make her cranky after a while.

Avery switched her image inducer on and Ari lamented the loss of her green hue. Of course, she hadn't actually expected Avery to head into the city in her natural state, and Avery was still a gorgeous girl. But the green skin and hair and bright, violet eyes were missed.

As they walked, Ari nodded thoughtfully, then smiled wide, clapping her friend on the shoulder. "Hey that's right! I forgot to say congratulations! I can't wait to hear you play..." Her eyebrow quirked up teasingly, "Pietro is playing with you too, right?"

Hiding a smirk, she brushed her bangs out of her eyes as they headed towards the parked cars. "Okay, got it. Classy escort, not cheap prostitute," she said with a teasing look to her best friend.

Ari mirrored Avery's quirked brow as she took in her question, "Ooh, I was not aware of that Ms. Doyal..." She pretended to look hurt, "Someone must have forgotten to give me the updated manual on Senior positions." Honestly, Ari didn't mind driving her own old car...but the way Avery was looking at her, Ari had the feeling the elven wanted to ride something with more style.

"Okay, how about that one--" she said, gesturing towards one of the smoothest cars on the lot that didn't belong to Scott. "You drive, you'll look better behind the wheel." Giving her friend a good-natured wink, she automatically took off towards her choice.

She saw the look on Ari’s face as she switched on her inducer, and gave her a weak smile as if to say ‘aww. Don’t give me that look, it’s okay...’ Avery was beginning to realize, though not quite understand, that everyone had grown to love her the way she was. She was however humbled by the fact that Ari never objected or chided her about her necessity to wear her image inducer. That was very important to Avery; Ari’s acceptance showed her own respect and only strengthened their relationship. After all, wasn’t that what friends were for?

Avery smiled at her friend’s touch as they walked down the hall. Each admired the other more than she would ever know. They did express in little ways from time to time as girls often did, but there was a place to draw the line before you went over the top. Avery’s dark eyes seemed to light up at Ari cheerful congratulatory exclamation. In her usual bashful manner, she waved her hand as if to fan her words away.

“Well I...” She had begun in a murmur before Ari teasingly added just one more thing.

Her eyebrow quirked up teasingly, "Pietro is playing with you too, right?"

She gave a sheepish smile at that, her eyes seeming to look up to the ceiling now. She knew it was coming but still it had done nothing to prepare.

“Yes, we were both asked so I guess it’s a duet...I’m hopin he’ll let me play harmony....I’m kinda lookin forward to it, but I haven’t played for an audience in years...I’m already nervous...” She gave a broken laugh that, as if she was trying to chuckle it off. “But anyway....” The elven shrugged it off as if that was the end of it. She knew that Pietro would be brought up again, but they had a nice little drive on the way to New York to warm up to that.

Bringing up the subject on dresses certainly made her feel better. Ari’s interpretation caused her to laugh musically and she bobbed her head in a nod.

“Yes! Exactly like that. Maybe something in black...for a change...”

Then they reached the garage and Avery encouraged the glass bender to pick out a car, giving her a snippet of information that not many knew. Okay, well perhaps it wasn’t to be abused but she was positive that no one would mind if the two took a car. They were both responsible girls, proving themselves in different fields that they were capable their seniors trust. She laughed again at the brunette’s reaction to the information.

“Oh yeah, defiantly. I’ll give you my copy when we get back..” Avery joked along as she walked to a panel on the wall, fishing out a card from her purse and sliding in through the reader on that panel. The little seamless door opened to reveal a selection of various keys. There certainly wouldn’t be any suv, grand carrivan, crappy honda civic keys to be found in here. Oh no, cream of the crop baby! Perhaps it was a little risky to be letting a nineteen year old? In Avery’s defence, you had to give credit to a girl that could fix anything she broke. And had she to be so unfortunate, she would.

“Seriously though,” She regressed as she opened the door and Ari looked to pick a car. “Not everyone came here with their own car right? I’m sure Xavier felt the need to provide for his students.” And seemingly over the years there became a wider range of selection. Obviously the higher end were access to those who deserved it.

"Okay, how about that one--" [Ari] said, gesturing towards one of the smoothest cars on the lot that didn't belong to Scott. "You drive, you'll look better behind the wheel."

“Ooooo...Wise choice luffer!” Avery swooned at the car of choice. “2009 Nissan GT-RS...They’re not even suppose to be on the market until June..” She informed her wistfully, feeling the need to continue. “480 horse power, 3.8-liter V6 engine, 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission...Even Warren would be jealous!” She seemed almost giddy as Ari proposed that she’d drive. But.. Okay, who was she kidding? What did the wealthy, handsome man have to be jealous over, really?

Excitedly she turned off the alarm with a squelched ‘blip, blip’ as she scooted over to the driver’s side, which on this particular car was on the right side. She wasn’t far behind Ari in her eager dash to the car. “This is gonna be fun!” She said to herself as she slipped into its black leather seat, flinging her purse in the back. Putting it into neutral, she flicked on her seatbelt, adjusted her mirrors and seat before the stereo, with all its glorious buttons, got turned onto something youthful the two could enjoy. Avery was just itching to try this baby out on the curves on the way, see how it really handled in comparison to its online raves.

“Speaking of Warren,” she said as she pulled out of the garage. “Things going well now?... I can’t wait to see you two dance at the weddin’. You’ll look so cute!”

It was true that Ari did prefer Avery's mutant form to the induced one, but she would never think badly of Avery, or Hank or anyone else, for using their inducers. Ari knew that she had no physical mutations to deal with, and so she couldn't actually understand what it must be like. This alone was enough reason for her to be supportive, rather than critical of her best friend's choices. Ari tended to have a certain 'Live and let live' philosophy about things. She didn't like being criticized for the choices she made, and in turn, she tried not to be critical about others.

The subject turned onto the wedding and Ari smirked, "I'm sure Pietro will let you play anything you want." Grinning at her friend, she said more seriously, "You're going to do great Avery." Ari wasn't sugarcoating either, she really did believe that when the performance happened it would be excellent. The brunette was definitely looking forward to it.

Ari was slightly surprised that Avery wanted to wear black, since usually the elven chose airier colors. However, searching for a black dress would definitely be easier than looking for one based on color. Then again, she didn't know if it was appropriate to wear black during the daytime. "Maybe if its not a severe black...I think we'll have to see. Is it okay to wear black during a daytime wedding?" she mused for a second. "Well as long as its not white, I think it'll be okay," she said with a laugh. She smirked, "Jean would probably explode someone's head if they wore white. Or Scott. I'm not sure which one is worse. They've both got powers that can remove heads from their bodies."

The brunette laughed as the pair joked about rule books, "Seriously. I think I got the wrong copy." Avery mentioned Xavier providing for his students, and as Ari moved towards their chosen vehicle, she ran her hand against the side, "Did he ever..."

Avery swooned and talked happily about the car, and Ari could barely understand half of what she'd said. No, it had not been their shared knowledge of cars that had caused Avery and Ari to become friends, that much was obvious. What she did get, however, was that this car was the cream of the crop.

The mention of Warren being jealous caused Ari a grin, "I bet he would." Well, he had an amazing car, an Aston Martin, one of the first she'd learned the names to just because she found it so gorgeous. Ari had been surprised to learn that Warren didn't have a huge car collection though. Apparently that was Scott's thing. But they both knew the businessman could buy this car if he wanted. The money thing was something Ari was still trying to get used to, because she wasn't used to knowing people that could drop massive amounts without a thought, but luckily it hadn't really interfered. He didn't need to drop a lot of dough to impress her.

Settling into the car, Ari pulled on her seatbelt and inspected the inside, "Damn, this was a good choice...' It was slightly odd sitting on the left side and not having the steering wheel in front of her, but she grinned, "Hey its like we're in Europe." As her dark eyes moved over the interior, her gaze flitted to the silver gas and break pedals. "Is it bad if those are my favorite part of this car?" she joked with a grin. But come on, they were pretty cool. So shiny.

Ari had to admit that Avery seemed to fit well with such a nice car. She pulled out her cellphone and snapped a picture as Avery asked about Warren. Her lips quirked up into a smile, "Yeah...they are." Ari hadn't really talked to anyone about she and Warren's new relationship, but that didn't mean he wasn't on her thoughts. She just didn't want to jinx it. But talking to Avery was different. This was her best friend, and she'd been there for her when Warren had broken it off with her.

"I mean, its still new. And its hard to find time to be together because of all of his jobs. But we've managed so far," she said with a grin. "Its funny because I'm almost worried you know? That something will go wrong, because its so good right now. And I never get that." She sighed as she put on some lip gloss, "I'm trying not to be pessimistic though."

"A dance at the wedding would be great. I bet he'll look really hot in his tux," she said with an eyebrow wag towards her friend. "So what about you, Missy? Got a date? 'Cuz, you know, I'm sure I know someone that wouldn't mind escorting you..." Ari's brown eyes twinkled impishly as she looked towards Avery.

She had just smiled at Ari’s reassurance. Avery was aware of her abilities and how well she excelled in some things more than others. In only her music and mechanics did things come naturally to her, anything else the elven worked really hard to achieve. Ari’s genuine words meant the world to her. She too knew that things would go well, but she still couldn’t help being nervous, especially seated next to Pietro and accompanying him in play.

“Oooooh, I didn’t think of that..” She murmured as Ari raised a good point. “Black’s alright for most things, but maybe it’s a little morbid for a wedding’ eh?” She mused. “Guess I was thinkin back in the day...used to wear dark colors in the orchestra....” At this she shrugged, completely lost in ideas of what to look for. Besides black, white complimented her skin beautifully. There was no way in hell she would dare to wear white, in total agreement with Ari’s warning, grinning at her statement. “You’re right though..” She chuckled. “I wouldn’t chance wearin’ white, I’ll keep me head ah-thank-you....but now I don’t have a clue to look for....” Again she shrugged and flashed her friend a smile. “Oh well, thats what I’ve got you for!”

Now comfortable seated in the car she continued talking, Ari joking about liking the looks of the peddles the most. It wasn’t those that Avery liked the most, but it sure contributed a lot to it when her foot was to the matt. Avery snickered at her jest, dark eyes looking towards her.

“Of course not!” She exclaimed with matching mirth in her tones. “It actually looks even better when this one’s flat to the floor..” She lightly tapped the gas peddle with her toe. In her mock serious she soon broke out her most devilish grin. MY how the pair got along splendidly. Sure Avery was aware that they didn’t share all things in common, as Ari knew hardly anything about mechanics (as far as she knew) and Avery certainly wasn’t that much of the artsy type. Yet they both had a marvelous sense of humor and same youthful energy and zest for life. Perhaps that’s what made them so close so quickly.

“Don’t worry....” She added with a tone to match that devious smirk of hers. “We’ll have some fun today.” Now their shopping sprees had never been all that often, but when they did happen it was Ari who drove. Not an issue at all to Avery, but she was pleased to get her turn. Having much interest in cars, it was surprise that she had been driving well before she had a licence. Though she may appear a little reckless when having her fun, Avery was no fool to the road. Driving was a passion to her and today perhaps she would show that off. You had to let loose sometimes didn’t you?

As Ari whipped out her cell phone Avery allowed herself to flash Ari her usual ‘photo’ grin as she asked about her how things were going relationship wise. Strange for how shy she was, Avery had been extremely photogenic..She had always been. There was no sense in frowning for pictures, or looking unhappy. When looked back on, Avery wanted to remembered as always with a smile on her face. It had actually been a part of her gift to Ari for Christmas. After her graduation gift Avery had been stumped on what to get for her. After buying a cute cowboy hat for the upcoming rodeo, she had found a classy looking collage wall picture frame. Avery had filled it herself with various pictures of herself and Ari, some in her natural form, others from the graduation dinner with Riva, along with other unknown pictures of Ari and Rosie, of Warren, and other people the glass creator was close to. How in the world Avery had come to get some of these pictures was a secret.

“Aww hun....Don’t worry.” She cooed, well aware that Ari and Warren had their rough start. Yet with their relationship still very fresh it didn’t mean that it was the end of their conflicts and struggles. It might have been pessimistic, as Ari had well put it, to think of a rocky road ahead, yet as a woman it was hard not to worry about such things. In Avery’s opinion she was being more realistic than pessimistic. Then again, Avery was more guilty of such thinking than anyone else. She couldn’t sit there and tell her bud that it wasn’t okay to have such thoughts. At the same time however she would try to ease the seriousness of the situation with light jest. Laugh it off, had been a bit part of Avery’s philosophy. Yet on the other side of the same mirror, she would be there for her again and again if their relationship ever turned sour. After all, Ari would do the same for her.

“Besides....” The long haired brunette continued. “You’re a senior x-man now...and from what I hear, drama is within the job description.” She gave a short chuckle. “I’m sure you guys can handle whatever comes...”

It was then that Ari brought up her own questions of dates, and Avery smirked as they drove down the driveway. She pretended not to notice her suggestive expressions as she poked around for the answer she was looking for. Avery’s eyes stayed on the road, yet she could still see her mischievous brown eyes, which is why she herself could not keep a straight face.

“He hadn’t asked me yet, if that’s what you’re implying...” Avery came straight out as said, failing to mention the man in question’s name. The light scent of vanilla came, but this time without the coloring of her cheeks. “I was plannin’ on goin’ alone...I mean its no big deal eh? I wouldn’t be the only one...and I don’t have the nerve to ask anyone myself... I can’t imagine anyone besides him askin’ me anyway...And if he does, he does. But if he doesn’t, that’s no big deal either.”

Avery had shrugged and pretended as if she did not care one way or the other. Thats just the way things went, wasn’t it. She was suppose to act as if she couldn’t be bothered...The trick was not to let the other know how desperate you were for them. Right? Hell, she hardly knew... Of course she wanted him to ask her. He was practically the reason why she would spend a nice chunk of change on a flattering dress, hours curling her long locks to be just so and practicing so much that her fingers would be sore. Just so that she could impress him, make him lost for words as he had done to her so many times. For once, she wanted to feel absolutely breathtaking. So it this was so important to her, then why did she seem so casual about it? Women might have been the fairer sex, however they were also the more complicated and confusing.

“He got me a present...” She confessed suddenly, as if it had been bothering her for quite a while. “A book of old gypsy music. Sheet music for the violin...” She hadn’t realized that Ari already knew of the gift that Pietro had given her, considering she had accompanied him and his sister to his homeland. Avery glanced over to her with a look of plea on her porcelain expression. “I wanna get him somethin’ nice too...somethin’ he’d like, but I don’t know where to start.” She owed him so much and he asked for nothing more but her to spend time with his sister. To Avery that just wasn’t enough.

Reaching the highway she smoothly shifted gears, kicking things up into high gear. She small car hugged the road so tight and responded with every movement just as she wield it to. How she loved the open road, its freedom and energy. With the music thumping in the background, inwardly she smiled. Nothing mattered when you were on the road, you just drove without a care in the world.

Ari looked thoughtful as they spoke about Avery's possible dress, "Well maybe black wouldn't be bad if it has some color in there. Like a little color on the hem or something..." She nibbled on her bottom lip, "I guess we'll just have to see. Or maybe instead of a white, a silver or a periwinkle or light violet color..." Ari grinned, "Or we could go with a light apple green, to really punch up your skin." She let out a laugh, "Yep, that's what you've got me for. That's my mission for today..."

If there was one thing Ari knew about, it was colors. She'd been that kid with the big box of Crayola crayons. Robin egg blue was a color dammit. Even if Avery had to try on a hundred dresses, Ari would make sure that her friend found a beautiful dress. Ari was quite sure Avery could've been wearing a paper bag and Pietro would have found her attractive, but this was about Avery, not Pietro. Avery was a gorgeous girl, no doubt. But Ari wanted her to feel gorgeous, even if she wasn't the bride. Avery would be performing in front of countless guests and looking good would help her confidence.

Inside the car, Ari could only laugh as Avery's booted foot tapped on the gas pedal. Ari realized that usually she drove when they went places, which was sort of odd because she was sure Avery enjoyed being behind the wheel more than herself. At least from the looks of Avery's glee, she did. No, it wasn't their shared fondness for cars or art that had brought them together. A good sense of humor really was enough to bring people together. If you could make each other laugh, then you didn't need hobbies to give you both something to do together. Ari had to admit that it was nice having a close friend that had skills under the hood of a car. Ari had always been pretty mechanically inclined, primarily when it came to computers or electronic gadgets. But she'd never ever stuck her head under a car. She gave major credit to Avery for doing it and actually being good at it.

"Ooh, lovely! You look good--" she said, quickly turning the cellphone to show Avery the recently snapped picture. Ari lamented that she didn't take enough photographs of those she loved. She had a cheap digital camera, but she hardly ever had the batteries for it. Avery's thoughtful gift of a picture collage, which was hanging in her new solo room, had reminded Ari of that fact. She remembered one of the first times she'd really talked to Avery at the bonfire, the green-hued girl had a camera with her. Some of the pictures in her collage had been from that night and Ari could hardly believe how far everyone had come in such a short time. Warren had managed to be captured in one, and Ari could barely wrap her mind around the fact that they had met that night. Needless to say, pictures of Rosie and Jean and the Maximoff twins at her dinner had made Ari very happy. Avery's gift was definitely a winner. Plus now Ari owned a cowboy hat. That was pretty rad in itself.

As Avery assured her about Warren, Ari gave her friend a small, thankful smile, "I'm hoping so." She really did hate worrying, but Avery was right that it was programmed into most girls to worry about new relationships. The fact that Warren was older and more experienced was something she'd been surprised to find that was actually working for them. It had its good and its bads, but mostly she preferred that he didn't act like a teenager. He wasn't nervous and uncertain about what he wanted all the time. And now that the teacher/student thing was over, the drama had been considerably less. But Ari knew he had a lot of baggage, even if they hadn't really talked about it yet, and she was aware that eventually difficult topics would come up again.

Ari grinned as Avery paused before finally responding to her question of a date. Sobering slightly, Ari dropped the joking tone and said, "No, its not a bad thing if you go alone. I'm sure the whole Institute will be there. That's a lot of single people..." She quirked an eyebrow, "Do you want anyone besides him to ask you?" Sure, Ari knew that Pietro liked Avery, but she didn't know what the elven felt for him.

Avery had shrugged, as if done with the topic, and Ari gave a slight nod, "Well, I personally think he would want to go with you. Why wouldn't he? You guys are playing together and everything." She added reasonably, "If he hasn't asked yet maybe its because he isn't aware that he's supposed to. Pietro's really old-school and his brain moves really fast, but that doesn't mean he's really versed in the ways of courting a girl."

An easy quiet had settled for a moment before Avery's voice broke through it, and Ari looked at her with a sheepish grin, a slight grimace on her face, "Oh yeah. I was sort of there when he got it..." She looked more intently at Avery, "It was pretty awesome, wasn't it? I thought it was a really thoughtful gift...rare."

She nodded as Avery expressed a desire to give Pietro something in return. "Well, I made him a case for his violin... I think anything having to do with music would be a success..." She gave her friend a knowing look, "Truthfully though, I think he'd be happy with anything he got from you. Pietro and Wanda aren't very materialistic people. They hardly have anything at all. As long as you pick something that you like for him, he'll appreciate it."

With the issues pertaining her dress addressed for now, they moved on in the conversation. After all, there was no sense in further talking about it when they hadn’t even looked at one single dress. God, she hoped this wouldn’t be that hard of a task. Like most girls, she enjoyed shopping, but she didn’t want to be doing it all day either. Trying dress after endless dress, it would grow tiresome after ten she was sure.

The conversation went on to talk about her having a date, and Avery was quite selective in her words. And Ari was being rather respectful in her search for answers from Avery. Really it wasn’t all for her own curiosity, more to the fact that Avery needed to talk about these things. Ari would provide a different way of looking at things than she herself could, a different way of sorting out her feelings and asking questions that she would not have thought to ask herself. The elven would forever be thankful for Ari and her insight. She raised some very good points.

She frowned for a moment, obviously thinking as she streaked long digits through her hair. She gave a chuckle at her indecisiveness on the whole subject. Should it be this hard to say what she wanted and what she felt? Apparently for Avery it was, and she felt it was something that she should have been able to answer in a snap. Sensing Avery’s unwillingness to say what she really wished to, Ari chose another tactic.

"Well, I personally think he would want to go with you. Why wouldn't he? You guys are playing together and everything." [Ari] added reasonably, "If he hasn't asked yet maybe its because he isn't aware that he's supposed to. Pietro's really old-school and his brain moves really fast, but that doesn't mean he's really versed in the ways of courting a girl."

“And there lays the biggest problem. I mean..I wouldn’t mind if he asked me...I guess I hope that he asks...I’ll wait til the very last minute, if not I’d go alone. But...If he doesn’t ask.. Well, I just don’t have the guts to be that forward and ask him myself. An’ if he doesn’t realized that a girl would expect him to do such...how weird would it seem for me to ask him out?....I don’t know..” She gave another helpless laugh. “He’s different, ya know. I feel that I have to watch every move I make so that I do things right....does that sound crazy?” Of course, her words hadn’t come out like she had meant them to, they rarely did. Honestly she meant to say, with Pietro’s inexperience with American style dating, how did she go about telling him how things were ‘suppose’ to be done. Really, she had no right. But this being all she knew, she was very unaccustomed to Pietro’s ways of courting making things doubly awkward for them.

“Were you really?” She then quipped to Ari’s mentioning of being with the twins when Pietro had gotten her the gift.. She then nodded. “I loved it!....It blew me away that he would give me somethin’ so precious....I know he said why, but ya know....I really don’t feel like I deserve it..” She gave a little chuckle, after having the same conversation with Pietro, but had finally accepted the gift as her own. “I’ve already leant four songs...they’re strangely very pretty...”

"Truthfully though, I think he'd be happy with anything he got from you. Pietro and Wanda aren't very materialistic people. They hardly have anything at all. As long as you pick something that you like for him, he'll appreciate it."

Ari gave her suggestion on the whole gift matter but it didn’t seem to satisfy Avery. Truly Pietro would have to be the hardest man on earth to shop for. Even starving people over in Africa you could impress them with a single chocolate bar....Hell, if only it could be that easy with him. How could you sub up ‘I’m forever grateful for you gift and I owe you my life’ into one single present?

“Oooh but that’s what makes it soo hard!” She protested. “I don’t know him well enough to say what he’d like, and the fact that he’s not materialistic at all makes it all the more difficult. How can I make somethin’ stand out and be special to him when he has really nothing to compare it to?” She questioned with dismay, before quickly adding. “And I know, its because he has nothin’ that he’ll be flattered or touched, but that’s not really the point. I want it to be more than a nice gift right, I want it to appeal to him......bah...I don’t know..” She gave a little chuckle and shook her head. “I’m just bein’ foolish. I’ll just buy him somethin’ that catches my eye. Could be a snow globe for all I know..”

Steadily speeding up on the highway she shifted gears until there was no higher she could go. She wasn’t sure if it had even been used on the highway yet, but Avery was going to give it a thorough test drive. 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and said to clear a quarter mile in just 11.6 seconds at speeds of 120mph? The road and conditions would not allow for such driving, it was midday and the middle of winter. She could not truly test these claims but she would certainly have fun trying. Currently she was up to almost 100/mph and although they were at a nice cursing speed, the ride was surprisingly smooth as she deftly wove through lanes passing vans and transport trucks alike. Obviously by her calm and composed demeanor, this wasn’t the first time she had done something like this. Her own Monte Carlo was a classic muscle car and no stranger to high speeds, yet it was over thirty years old and couldn’t hope to reach the speeds of the lovely beauty they now sat in....at least not yet.

“Oh my...” She said softly as her eyes caught a glimpse of a state trooper. He was pursuing but hadn’t flicked on his lights just yet. She looked over her shoulder for a moment, judging how far he was away from them. They had a good lead and the chances of getting actually caught was slim to none. Avery smirked as an idea crept upon her. Ahead there was a grouping of transport trucks that might just work to her advantage. At least if she was lucky enough. Shifting again she geared down, actually decelerating in order not to by pass the first truck.

“Looks like we’re gonna play a lil Smokey and the Bandit today..” Avery grinned at her friend. It was just a little fun and Avery’s smile along with her body language told of confidence and ease. Ari had no reason to worry, and Avery just hoped that she wouldn’t kill her after this.

Looking up to the first trucker she waved to get his attention. Two chicks in a hot little sports car, it certainly wasn’t hard. No doubt they had their cb’s on channel nine and had been talking about them since they were first spotted on the highway. Once the man looked down to them Avery winked with a cheeky smile, nodding her head backwards and making a circular motion with her index in the air mimicing police lights. He picked up his cb and nodded to her as they carried on a sort of trucker’s sign language. Giving him a appreciative nod she sped up again as he allowed her to switch lanes and tuck the car in and around him. Basically she had asked for his help to elude the trooper and he had graciously agreed. To this she relayed it back to Ari.

“He’s gonna let me slip through traffic here and kinda block the way until we’re outta sight..” She informed her in a matter-of-fact tone. With a smirk she added, in a sultry, dramatic voice. “Don’t worry....this isn’t my first time.”

And just as she said, the trucker had let her by and the other trucks ahead began to slow down their steady beat to almost box her in until she was well concealed. To the state trooper, it would appear as if she had disappeared. This being a one way, four lane highway it was a maneuver that was easily done. They had left her just enough gap to weave through to get ahead the steadily growing numbers of transport trucks. Politely she waved as each on allowed her to get through and pass, Avery singing delightfully with the radio as she did so. Actually, this had been the smoothest time she’d ever done this. Then again, with her old friend Leo being a cop they had played more than one game of cat and mouse. Soon enough, though, one of them gave her a urgent waving sign, which could only have meant that the cop car was making its way through. She nodded in thanks and shifted gears once more, pulling away from the group. By the time that the state trooper made his way through, they would be long gone. Who knew that Avery had even a little bit of a wild streak? Well....you only went this way once. Not like it was something she made a habit of. Not anymore anyway....

I feel that I have to watch every move I make so that I do things right....does that sound crazy?”

Ari nodded thoughtfully as Avery expressed what was on her mind. She wondered if perhaps she should casually ask Pietro if he'd gotten a date to the wedding...But truly, Ari didn't want to put herself between them. She knew from firsthand experience that starting a relationship was difficult enough without people butting in. No, this would have to be something Pietro would need to figure out for himself. "Avery, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure Pietro wants to go with you. He spoke really...fondly of you when I saw him a while ago."

She didn't mention that Pietro had sought her out to ask for advice. Ari also didn't mention that Pietro had spoken so passionately of her. Ari didn't know if that would be something Avery would enjoy or be wary of. The brunette thought idly that she probably would have been very flattered, but freaked if a guy had expressed himself that way to her after knowing her for so little time. But Pietro was a sort of different case. He was a gypsy from a different country and he expressed himself with words. Maybe with Avery, it would work in the silver-haired man's favor.

Avery mentioned feeling as though she had to be careful about what she said, and Ari could sympathize. "No, I know what you mean," she said softly. "When we first met we took everything we said the wrong way. And even later, when he and Wanda came to the school, it was hard to sometimes just say what I meant. I was always nervous I was going to say the wrong thing and offend him."

It amazed her, now that she thought about it, how long she'd known Pietro and Wanda and how their relationship had changed in the past few months. They'd never really been enemies, but they'd certainly been on opposite sides. And then they'd become friends, just like that. Crazy how things worked sometimes.

They moved on to talking about Avery's gift from Pietro, and Ari gave a little nod, a grin on her face, "Yeah I was. First time I've ever been out of the country. And I didn't even need a passport." She was extremely happy that Avery had liked the present Pietro had gotten her, but Ari had known she would. It was a lovely gift, rare and thoughtful and right up Avery's musical alley.

"Avery, of course you deserve it," she said, her voice a little sharp and her eyes watching the image-induced girl with a knowing eye. "He wanted you to have it. Pietro wouldn't have picked just anyone. I think he'd be really pleased that you learned those songs so fast." While, Pietro could learn a song in moments, Avery's mutation had nothing to do with speed. The fact that she had already learned four songs spoke volumes about her dedication and hard work. Ari couldn't help but be a bit proud of her at that moment.

When Avery complained of not knowing what to get Pietro, Ari had to let out a laugh. "Are you kidding? You think you've got it hard? Warren has everything he could possibly want. Clothes, CDs, watches, cologne...all that stuff is out." The brunette frowned, "I can't even take him somewhere. A play, the opera, a fancy restaurant... I can't afford it, but even if I could, he's probably already eaten there, or seen whatever it is."

It was kind of silly fretting over gifts, but Ari had always had a sort of hard time figuring out what people would like. Ari pretty much had the same problem as Avery, though on the opposite spectrum. Warren had the best of everything, so how could she give him something and have it stick out? For his present, she'd done the only thing she could. She'd used her creativity and her powers to hopefully make him something he could appreciate. At the very least, she'd put a lot of heart into it, and hopefully he would be able to see that. If not, she'd have to buy him a cheesy tie and call it a day. Maybe she could make him laugh, at least.

Ari gave a nod, "I'm sure when you see it, you'll know." Truthfully, she knew for a fact that whatever Avery got Pietro would be a hit. Aside from the fact that Pietro would be pleased she'd even gotten him anything, Avery actually had good taste.

The Hispanic girl leaned back against her chair comfortably, singing along to the song on the radio. Before she realized it, the cars on either side were whipping past and Ari glanced over at the speedometer. Her eyes widened as she saw that they were going 100 mph. "Avery, I really, really want to live to see the wedding..." she said, giving her friend a furtive glance. Ari was quite fond of speed, sure, and she often went a bit over the speed limit. But going at speeds like this made her nervous. The road ahead was clear, but it didn't stop Ari from imagining a sudden stopped car and theirs ramming into it. Her hands came to her face and she closed her eyes, not really wanting to see. It didn't work though, and she immediately peeked through her fingers, her heart beginning to pound in her chest.

Dropping her hands, she looked towards the side mirror, "Oh fuck. There's a cop--" Ari was not fond of police officers. It always seemed they were giving tickets for going five over and stunning innocents with their taser guns when they should be off doing something more productive like catching killers or rapists. Despite her dislike, however, Ari didn't want to get a ticket. This wasn't even their car... Imagine having to tell Mina that they'd borrowed one of the better cars and then gotten a ticket. Okay, so it seemed in this situation, Ari was being quite the worrywart.

And then Avery added to her heart attack. She was actually going to try and outrun the cop. "Avery, I'm getting you a radar detector for your birthday..." she said, watching as Avery held herself with complete confidence. Ari knew she shouldn't worry, but the thought of how expensive their ticket would be, coupled with the idea of having to take a five hour course on safe driving, and the chastising from the higher ups at the mansion were enough to cause fear. Ari had just been promoted to Senior position not long ago and she didn't want it compromised.

In moments, Avery was signaling to a trucker, looking...flirtatious. Hah, who knew the innocent elven had such a way about her on the road. Truly, Ari was finding that beneath the fear of death, she was feeling amusement. They sped ahead, Ari's eyes on the rear view mirror the entire time until she lost sight of the trooper completely.

“He’s gonna let me slip through traffic here and kinda block the way until we’re outta sight..” She informed her in a matter-of-fact tone. With a smirk she added, in a sultry, dramatic voice. “Don’t worry....this isn’t my first time.”

Ari let out a sigh of relief as the trucks hid them from view, though she didn't like feeling enclosed by such big things on either side of them. One little slip of the trucker's steering wheel and they'd be crushed to bits. "I can see that Avery, you little speed demon. Maybe you and Pietro are better suited than I thought," she said with a smirk, finally allowing herself to breathe properly.

Moving to the topic of Pietro, one that could not be skirted around, Avery’s ears tweaked under her cloaked form at Ari’s particular words.

"Avery, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure Pietro wants to go with you. He spoke really...fondly of you when I saw him a while ago."

There was a brief mentioning of Ari when they had spoken on Christmas day in the library. She know that the two had been friends for a while now, and natural they would talk. Yet from the impression she attained from Pietro’s words she was inclined to think that she was once the topic of a certain conversation. And thus, her curiosity had just now been intrigued by Ari’s vague mentioning.

“He actually said that you....wait...what was it now...” She played back his words in her mind. “Oh right! That you ‘speak of me as if I am a precious gem’..” Avery mimicked Pietro’s accent and the lyrical way he spoke his words, twisting the quote slightly. She beamed at her ability to recall and make a model of Pietro’s words. Then suddenly said, “Where you guys talkin about me?” It was meant to be a tease but she couldn’t help want to know the answer. Wasn’t this what girls did? Get information for her best friend about her crush because she was too embarrassed to find out on her own. Avery let her maturity slip every now and then.

It had caused her a little ease as Ari sympathized with her. As she recalled her own initial fears of watching what she said around the Maxioff twins, it put Avery at ease and she took a more relaxed position in her seat.

“Thank God!...At least I’m not the only one fumblin’ and makin and ass outta myself...” She rolled her eyes at herself. “Frig, its hard enough to talk to him as it is, let along pickin the right words delicately. I’m terrible with words! I’m lucky if I can get out what I feel....” Avery then looked to her friend, her confidant and confessed. “I’ve already muddled up a few times now and the more I speak with him the less difference it makes..” At this she blew hair from her eyes.

The conversation of gifts moved on and once again Avery was inclined to agree with Ari as she always raised good points. Her elven friend was known to be terribly self conscious and Ari would forgive her for this. All she needed was a little patience and someone who cared enough to tell her the difference in her worrisome thoughts. Avery all but nodded at her words, to which Ari continued to retort her own problems with Warren. To this she laughed with true mirth.

“I’m so sorry babe, never seen how bad it is on the other side.” She grinned at this. “You’ve got it far worse than I do. I can’t imagine gettin’ somethin for Warren...God..I’d be lost..” She almost muttered in wonder of what she would get. Ari at least had amazing artistic talent and a fresh, adventurous mind. Avery couldn’t dream of having her creativity. Really? What would Warren prefer more? An original, beautiful glass sculpture...Or..a flower. A flower?! Really, get off it. Though she was lightly envious of Ari luck with the handsome man a while back, now was certainly not one of those times. She would take Pietro any day over Warren when it came to shopping for him. Though, come to think of it...Avery would’ve taken Pietro any day. Strange as it sounded she had spoken to him more

“Heh...I’d probably wind up makin him a macaroni portrait....” She snickered to herself as she sped through the highway. “You’re right...in comparison to Warren, anythin’ would delight Pietro..”

Avery looked in her side mirror about the same time that Ari pointed out the cop, her tones making it very clear that she was uneasy. It must have been a very odd perspective of Avery, to see her so clam and collected, acting with complete confidence and near professionalism. Really Avery had seen all these qualities in Ari and honestly wished she was more like her. It was almost as if their roles had been reversed. Such behavior seemed very uncharacteristic of the elven, normally avoiding risks and excitement. Hadn’t that been half the reason why she was not part of any x-men team? It must’ve seemed odd to the younger ones at the institute that she was practically the only one not being prepped to be a future x-man, despite her perhaps valuable qualities. But then, Avery always had preferred to work behind the scenes than be the star.

"Avery, I'm getting you a radar detector for your birthday..."

At this she giggled lightly as the car responded quickly and smoothly to her every command. The feeling currently was of that of in the movies, the classic car chases scenes where the hero always got away. What she wouldn’t do to be able to live one of the Blue’s Brothers chase scenes.

“I’ll hold you up to that one....I could use it..” She grinned again as she waved to another trucker. Of course, friendly men on the road when you treated them with respect, she wouldn’t dare approach one at a truck stop, especially at night. Too many stories she had heard over the years about lonely truckers and their desires. Really this was practically the only time she used her ‘flirtatious’ nature to her advantage, buried deep as it was. Hell, it had worked before. She was safe within her car where all they could do was look. “If I could fly, I would’ve....Perhaps another time though..” She teased, almost unaware of Ari’s slight jitteriness. Avery’s steered the silver car flawlessly as if she had a natural talent for doing such...Perhaps she did. Maybe that’s why she was showing off, a rarity in itself, for Ari..

In spite of her fun, she did feel momentarily bad for shaking her poor friend up. Avery had to take in consideration that Ari had no idea of her driving background. Mind now, she was no Nascar, Indi 500 but...perhaps she could’ve been. Or maybe one of those off road racers. How exciting that would have been! Yet, who had the money for that? Not her. And poor Ari had to peek through her crafty fingers. She hadn’t known Avery all her life, not even a quarter of it. How could she put trust and confidence in something she didn’t know of?

Now that the whole ‘crisis’ was adverted, Ari was allowed to finally relax. Pity she hadn’t had more sympathy for her friend before, she might have slowed down had she initially realized that she was freaking her out. But she was overpowered by the rush of excitement, something that Ari, in her nervousness that she had caused, might not understand. Not once did she consider the consequences of what would happen had she been caught. Yes, she was quite aware of them but she had long lost that fear years back. This was what one would consider to be Avery’s sinful addictions..

"I can see that Avery, you little speed demon. Maybe you and Pietro are better suited than I thought," she said with a smirk, finally allowing herself to breathe properly.

At this she chuckled, giving her a soft, apologetic look. “I’d have to be to just to keep up with him..” She mused at this as she turned off on the next exit, once there she slowed to a more comfortable cruising speed. She smiled to herself for a moment in a light pause before looking fondly to her friend.

“I’m sorry hun......” She said with another chuckle. “Kinda went overboard back there.. Heh....You remember Leo right??” She asked rhetorically, as she had told her about her old best friend from before she came to the institute. She knew about their past ‘relationship’, their fight that had occurred in the gardens, and how he had left a huge emotional scar on Avery. Yet through it all they had worked it out and remained friend. Guess Avery was big on forgiveness. Still, for as much as Ari and herself had bonded, she hadn’t told her about all the other times the two had shared.

“Anyway...” She continued, after a light pause of confirmation. “He and I used to race all the time....We’d sneak out in the middle of the night, and he would take his dad’s cruiser. We’d go on these rarely used highways, and he’d see if he could catch me.” She shook her head at it all. “Guess we did it so much....kinda got real good at it. Then we started to do it on higher traffic highways. It was reckless but boy was it ever fun...After about a year of it we got caught...Luckily just by his dad...” She grinned at this, remembering being dragged home but the chief of police, back to her uncle’s house who was a high ranking military general. Neither of them were very pleasant men when angered.

“I don’t even have to tell you how long I lost my keys and was doin’ chores..” Avery sighed a little. “Ooh the good old days...” Her dark eyes narrowed as she looked to her friend. “Haven’t you done reckless things growing up?” Really, she was fishing for a story so she wouldn’t feel to bad herself.

Presently they had entered the outskirts of New York City and as traffic began to build up she had wished she had gotten out earlier. Rush hour would be a bitch, but perhaps she could avoid most of it with her shopping. She was now thankful, even more so, for the small sporty car. It would be much easier to maneuver in the city, and if she had to do some fancy tricks it would be a breeze.

“Oh right! That you ‘speak of me as if I am a precious gem’..” Avery mimicked Pietro’s accent and the lyrical way he spoke his words, twisting the quote slightly. She beamed at her ability to recall and make a model of Pietro’s words. Then suddenly said, “Where you guys talkin about me?”

Ari's lips spread into a good-natured grin, "That blabbermouth." Rolling her eyes teasingly, she smiled, "You know you're my little precious emerald." Quirking an eyebrow, she smirked, "Are you asking me to tell you what Pietro and I talked about?"

Ari let out a low laugh, "You might have been mentioned. But nothing bad. Just good things. His customs are different. Him and Wanda would have been married by now if things hadn't turned out the way they have." She shrugged, "The fact that they're having to assimilate to American culture is kind of odd for them. He just figured I'd know you best. Thought I might have some insight into how the female mind works."

“I’ve already muddled up a few times now and the more I speak with him the less difference it makes..”

Ari laughed easily at this, but looked sympathetically towards her friend, "Aw, Ave, you'll get used to talking to him. He's just an intense kind of guy. He comes off kind of intimidating at first. But once you get to know him, he's not like that. I mean, he's still arrogant and stuff--" She grinned at this, "But he's a really good guy. He's honorable and chivalrous." Looking at Avery, she smiled softly, "I know you've already had a run-in with that side of him."

The brunette could only chuckle as Avery saw that the grass wasn't always greener on the other side. Grinning, Ari said, "Nah, I'm complaining. But truly, I'm sure Warren will appreciate whatever I give him. I just can't really get him stuff from stores..." Smirking, Ari lifted a hand and wiggled her fingers, "Lucky for me, I don't always have to." Ari, like Avery with Pietro, wouldn't have traded Warren for anything. If that meant countless headaches when gift-time came around, then so be it. He was worth the distress.

Avery joked about a macaroni portrait and Ari pointed at her, "Hey, you may have something there..." Shaking her head, she laughed, "No, not the macaroni. The portrait part. Maybe I can give him a nice picture of me for Valentine's day..." Okay, so she was sort of thinking far ahead, which wasn't always the wisest thing. But hopefully nothing would happen from now until then to interrupt her sudden plans.

Turning her thoughts back to Avery, she said with a nod, "I think with both our guys, as long as we're genuine, they should like whatever we give them." Ari suddenly grinned cheekily, "If they don't like our gifts. There are always kisses to fall back on."

They sped ahead, avoiding the state trooper and Ari couldn't help but be impressed by Avery's driving skills. Well, under the layer of being scared for her life. Avery was showing a sense of confidence behind the wheel that Ari hoped might someday wash over her permanently.

When her minty-hued friend finally slowed the car to a human speed, Ari finally felt the tension in her shoulders dissipate and she burst into laughter. Through her laughter, she nodded at Avery's question about remembering Leo, listening to the elven's recollections.

Of course, this story only served Ari to laugh harder, her hand clutching her side as she doubled over in the seat, bending as far as the seatbelt allowed.

Calming herself slightly, but still grinning wide, Ari looked to her friend in awe, "Wow, you're so lucky you didn't get caught by a cop you didn't know." Avery questioned her for a reckless story and Ari briefly wondered if she was truly that boring. Did she have no reckless stories? "Hmm, I'm not sure really. My brain usually gets in the way of me doing things that are too crazy..." she said with a laugh. "Most of the time anyway..." she said with a quirk of her right eyebrow. "I mean, I don't have any stories about reckless driving or anything..." She batted her eyelashes at Avery, "I'm a good girl."

"I used to go to a lot of shows and concerts a few years ago...my parents were pretty laid back, so I didn't have to sneak out or anything," she said with a wistful look. "Shows were usually really fun. Once me and my friend snuck on stage while this band was playing. They didn't have a lot of security or anything." Ari remembered one of the last times she'd been to a show. It had been when her powers had fully manifested. A boy had been hurt, and unable to control her powers, she'd gone off to Xavier's. Now that she could control her powers though...maybe it was something she should do with Avery. "We should go to a concert someday. See a good band...and you can use those flirting skills to get us backstage," she said with a wink.

Hitting pothole after pothole and being surrounded by yellow cabs and tons of cars, Ari was suddenly glad she hadn't decided to drive. They reached the city, and Ari looked towards Avery, "So where're we going shopping? Soho?"

Avery seemed to accept what Ari said about Pietro. She had a good feeling that more than one thing was inquired about her, but being his friend, Ari was not a privy to give up detailed information. She gave just enough to just about satisfy Avery’s curiosity, even though she still wanted to know the whole truth. Out of respect for her and Pietro she didn’t press the matter any further. It was kind of flattering to have someone ask about her, for advice and such. At least with Ari, Pietro had gone to the perfect source. She additionally went on to praise the older man, giving Avery an insight that came with the longer experience of knowing him.

..."But he's a really good guy. He's honorable and chivalrous." Looking at Avery, she smiled softly, "I know you've already had a run-in with that side of him."

Avery smiled meekly at this, recalling that it was that part of his personailty that kept her weak at the knees. As she thought to herself a wide grin spread across her face, recalling a certain moment between Pietro and herself. Ari being her best friend, she’d just about tell her everything.. Who else was she to tell?

“...And he has the loveliest kiss...” She commented fondly before pausing, then chuckling lightly. “It was so funny Ari, it was such a sin.. It was Christmas day and we were in the library. And he gave me a gift and so we got to talkin’ and da, da, da....” She purposely skipped parts to get to the point. “...anyway, it came down to it that he said he wished to get to know me before we got too, ‘involved’, I guess he meant... Only, he called it ‘giddy lovemaking.’” Poor Avery could not help but snort at the phrase again, considering what she thought he had meant. “WELL! I thought he meant sex and laughed at his way of wordin’ it....only to...I think I kinda pissed him off, until I apologized and told him what it was I thought....Poor guy...And I thought I was embarrassed.” Again she chuckled before letting out a wistful sigh. “In the end it turned out alright though....But ya know, I think he must tolerate me more..So far he hasn’t gotten very cross with me..” She mused with a pleased smile.

Listening to Ari’s recollection of her ‘wild days’ Avery shook her head and grinned. “God...you were a good girl weren’t you?! But in my defense, my Aunt and Uncle enrolled me in a all girl catholic school...” At this she rolled her eyes, remembering she had to wear that burgundy, plaid, pleated skirts and blazer with the tie. It was still up in the room from the very first day she had arrived to the institute. “...And I lived across the street from Leo Brady, he was a very bad influence and I have a rubber arm. Who knew ‘C’mooooon...wuss!’ repeated over and over would make you do crazy stuff..” She chuckled at this. “God did we ever get in a few scrapes because of him. Thank almighty for that phasin of his..That’s why we were lucky. ...Anyway, those so called ‘flirtin skills’ are for when I’m in tight spots....don’t think I can use em to get anywhere. Besides...we’ll take can always take Jean... I can see it now..” She put her hand to her head and acted as if she was projecting thoughts, speaking in a monotone voice.. “You think we’re hot...You will let us back staaage.” At this she snickered at herself.

Driving little, hot, sporty cars might be fun but sometimes she felt like pushing the whole lot of them into the Grand Cannon. They might have the pep and agility, but they sure as hell weren’t made for rough terrain. Avery cursed venomously with each had dip or hole that she could not avoid, sorely missing the smooth comfort her old, beast of a car provided.

They reached the city, and Ari looked towards Avery, "So where're we going shopping? Soho?"

Avery’s dark eyes lit up with Ari’s suggestion a light inward gasp of excitement could be heard.
“Soho!...I haven’t been there in years! Yes! We’re definitely goin’ there!” She announced with enthusiasm. Promptly she checked the GPS to figure where they were in regards to Soho. After a few blips and beeps she mapped out the quickest route and began on that, minding the New York traffic as best she could.

Nearing the Soho area, Avery circled around as she wondered where the best place to park would be.

“Alright Ari love, your time to shine. Pick me out the store that has my dress...” The cloaked elven urged with a grin.

Only, he called it ‘giddy lovemaking.’”

Ari's eyes widened at this, a gasp forming in her throat as she brought a hand to her lips dramatically, "Avery Doyal! Doing impure things with boys in the school library!? And on Jesus' birthday no less..." Ari wisely chose not to mention what she and Warren had done in his library, or that she'd spent the night in his room on Christmas Eve. Ari was aware that it was a bit of the teapot calling the kettle black, but it was all in good fun. She shook her head at her friend with mock sternness, "Terrible. I'm not leaving Rosie in your care ever again."

Of course, she was only joking, and it really did pique her interest that Avery had kissed Pietro already. Very suddenly, she felt a twist of guilt in her stomach. She also knew what it felt like to kiss the silver-haired man. Rationally it had been before he and Avery had started their flirtation, but Ari still felt guilty. The strife that it had caused with her and Warren had caused Ari not to speak of it again, and that included to Avery. Now, she sort of wished she had.

Ari's guilt was not because she felt some sort of underlying romantic feelings for Pietro. It truly wasn't that at all. More than anything, it felt as though she knew something that Avery didn't. Like she was keeping secrets from her best friend, and about the guy she fancied as well. What if Avery found out from someone else? That would no doubt be a lot worse than coming from her. Then Avery might think she was keeping secrets. The brunette wondered at how best to spit it out. The faster it was over and done with, the better. Besides, she and Avery had a strong friendship. A little thing like that shouldn't come between them.

Not wanting to ruin Avery's memories, Ari kept her thoughts to herself. Perhaps she would get a better chance later on. Bursting out laughing at Avery and Pietro's miscommunication, Ari shook her head, "Seriously, he was asking for it with that one." She was sure the language barrier thing might come up again, and she said, "Don't sweat it Ave. He definitely likes you if he wasn't already half-way to Cucamonga after a misunderstanding like that."

At Avery's words of her being a good girl, Ari grinned innocently, her pointer fingers poking into her dimples showily, "That's my story and I'm sticking to it." Okay, so she'd had a pretty conventional childhood. No drugs, booze, or general law breaking. Learning that Avery had gone to a catholic school made Ari laugh, "Ah ha, now it all makes sense. The law breaking, the Pietro snogging..." She narrowed her eyes and looked towards the crown of Avery's dark hair, "I can almost see the tips of those horns now..."

Hearing Leo's choice of words to push Avery's buttons, Ari couldn't help but chuckle. "So you were a little like Marty McFly in 'Back to the Future'. You know, how he'd get called chicken and be persuaded to do anything?" Sue the girl, she'd watched a lot of movies in her life. "I gotta say I like this side of you Avery. I'm blaming you for any corruption that takes place." Okay, so really, Ari wasn't that innocent. But she had to tease Avery about this as it was the first time the elven had shared such juicy stories about her past.

Avery mentioned Jean and Ari could only nod in agreement, "Oh definitely. When you've got someone who literally has the Force, you've got to use it." The great thing about Jean was that if it resulted in a good time for all of them, she'd probably agree to it. "Not that we need it of course. Because we are hot," she added with a wink towards her friend.

Driving through the cluttered city streets, Ari knew they would be circling for some time before they got lucky with a parking spot. However, since Avery was leaving the store choice to her, she peered out the glass window, "Hmm...if you can afford it, how about Bloomie's?" There it was up ahead, the large and impressive Bloomingdale's store, known for its hefty price tags and high fashion items. No doubt they would have an array of beautiful dresses to suit the Elven's taste. However, it was quite expensive and Avery might not want to shell out that kind of dough for a dress. "If not we can probably hit some smaller boutiques in the area..." offered the Latina. She frowned as they passed a mass of yellow taxis, "Why don't you duck into this street and see if we can find a parking. If not we might have to find a parking garage and walk the rest of the way," she said, gesturing towards the corner street.

Avery frowned purposely at Ari’s blatant chiding on the whole Christmas day/Pietro moment. Of course there was no way that Avery would think that she was being serious. This was Ari after all, and between them 99% of the time consisted with jokes, teasing and laughter. Avery liked it best that way. Ari was practically the only person she could be herself around, feel totally comfortable and not have to worry what the heck she thought about her.

“Pfft...whatever!” She then retorted with an all knowing look.. “..Cause I’m sure you’ve got room to talk..Hmm?” One shapely, dark brow rose. “And just you wait until Rosie gets older....It’ll be you she’ll be running to with all the questions and problems. Don’t come crying to me when she wants to know about...Eee, errr! eee, errr!...” Avery finished by imitating the sounds of noisey bed springs, her free hand making a up and down motions. She was kind enough not to be so vulgar at the moment to say the words that were in her head. She then sighed in content as Ari added one valid point.

"Seriously, he was asking for it with that one." She was sure the language barrier thing might come up again, and she said, "Don't sweat it Ave. He definitely likes you if he wasn't already half-way to Cucamonga after a misunderstanding like that."

Avery grinned at this and nodded. “Yeah...he’s got more backbone than I....I’ll give him that...” She seemed to stare off in space for a while. It was funny how things happened. If it hadn’t been for that misunderstanding then it would not have lead them down the path they had went, Avery would not have reached out to touch him and sweetly asked for his patience and understanding. They would have never shared their first kissed together that day and she might still be waiting.

Avery had chuckled at Ari’s little devil pun, shaking her head slightly as she smoothed her hair. “Its not easy ya know....Really throws off the halo...makes it go all lopsided..” Avery Promptly grabbed the air above her head as if tipping something upright. She then leaned over to look at herself in the rearview mirror, tipping it until she gave herself a satisfied nod. Of course, her seriousness never lasted long and a smirk cracked her features. More fun loving, teasing from Ari closely followed with her strike on her innocence and comparison to god awful old movies.

“Pffft!” He waved her hand in dismissal. “Don’t give me that. If anythin, people would think you’re corruptin me!” She grinned at this, knowing that she’d chalk up miss innocent for all she was worth and would probably get away with....at least for a while. “And don’t compare me to Michael J. Fox...he was such a scrawny, little guy....like Toby Maguire....And McFly...geeze...” She chuckled to herself. “Only in the eighties could you get away with such cheezy names..”

Circling around the block as her eyes were narrowed, looking for a parking spot, she held no reluctance to Ari’s suggestion. Avery was more for the open road than spending a hour looking for a space. It was in these sort of things that her patience wore thin. Any suggestions were more than welcomed.

"Hmm...if you can afford it, how about Bloomie's? If not we can probably hit some smaller boutiques in the area..."

“Nope! That sounds great!” She cut in as soon as Ari gave a second option. Already she was in no mood to do extra tramping around if it could be avoided. Sure she loved shopping, but she was not in favor of jumping from place, to place, to place. “Don’t worry, I’ve got the money for it...I’ve been way too stingy with my money lately...its time for an unreasonable splurge.” At this she gave her another little grin.

To be honest, Avery had more money than she currently knew what to do with. Since she didn’t spend it all in bills and rent of an apartment, there was little left to drain her account. Her parents had left her with a trust fund, some savings bonds that had been split between her and her brother. From her old school she had attained two music scholarships that had been sitting in a savings account collecting interest. All of these things hardly been touched, at least not enough to put a considerable dent in her account. Avery figured she was due.

Avery nodded then at Ari’s next suggestion of where to park, her annoyance must have been clear on the elven’s face. Guaranteed one of these assholes parked on the side of the street were over their time limit and not being ticketed. Where was a tow truck when you needed it? Turning the corner her sharp dark eyes continued to look for a spot.

“The hell I’m gonna be walkin the streets if I can help it....It’s bloody cold out there.” She seemed to grumble in good nature as she leaned over the wheel. “Do you think it would be that terrible if I made that tree there move the car out of the spot for us?” Avery joked as she nodded to a car parked next to little tree by the sidewalk. Avery could just imagine using the tree to make the spot available for them. Someone else would have to worry about an ‘abandoned’ car in the middle of the road.

Then lady luck smiled upon them, an empty spot that she would fight tooth and nail over. Oh yes, she was one of those women. At least at the moment she was. Sometimes you had to get a little crazy, or New York would swallow you whole.

“Ah! I see one!” She cried out as she sped up a little in her excitement. She swerved in just in time to receive an evil eye from an older lady whom had deemed the spot hers, for whatever reason that was. Grabbing her bag she quickly exited the car with enough time to greet the cougar as she passed. Still much in her devilish mood she proceeded with a rude gesture that started with her blowing a kiss and ended with a pointed finger at her tush.

“C’mon Ari...” She threw her purse over her shoulder and walked a few steps away from the car. “I have no clue where I’m going..”
