Impressed! Damn, how could one not be impressed with the complete independence of the woman he’d met at the airport. She had taken up his offer to drive her back to the mansion, but only as far as where her own bike had been waiting for her. He wasn’t entirely sure how it came to be there, assuming that she’d called one of her contacts ahead and told them when and where to park it. It wasn’t really an important detail;; really, he'd have done the exact same thing.

Difference was… he wasn’t a blind mutant now riding a motorbike through the relatively busy streets of New York. If he got ahead, or ended up losing her in traffic, he slowed down. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Shina couldn’t get through the city on her own, it was just protective instinct, most of the time not even realizing he was doing it. Strange, he barely knew the woman, yet, had come to the rather quick realization that she was quite capable of taking care of herself.

He was thankful for the chips Scott and him had placed in every regular vehicle, for more than just the obvious reasons of not having to put in his code while keen ex military eyes were watching. Security was tight since the attack on the school… the one that saw him lured away by someone he had still yet to learn the identity of. Now, not only was their measures to read the chip and identify the vehicle, but, the one seated upon, or within, was also scanned, and, if they turned out not to be the actual owner they had to go through a second proof of identity means before the gates would even begin to open.

Fortunately for Logan, the gates opened first go, allowing the second motorbike to enter as well, but not before updating the internal security server that there was an unknown mutant now on the Institute grounds.

The garage seemed like an age away for anyone who hadn’t been to Xavier’s before;; for Logan, the long driveway was just normal. Sidling up beside several other bikes, including Pyro’s and Gambit’s, and turning off the engine, he proceeded to remove his helmet, waiting for Shina to do the same. "Not sure where tha one in charge is Darlin'. I'll guaruntee though, we won't be alone for long. Someone'll be curious enuff ter invesitgate yer presence."

Shina was really and truly happy to finally have her bike rip-roaring and ready to go. The higher-pitched whine of her Suzuki Hayabusa was vastly different then the lower thundering of his altered Harley, but it was much more powerful in the way of speed. 190 Miles per hour top speed, if she really wanted it, and that wasn't even it's true potential. Still, with her back-pack adding wind resistance, and this being the first time she ridden the bike in a long time, Shina decided to take it easy.

Bike: --> Link

Shina weaved through traffic like a pro surfer does a good wave, clean and precise, cutting through the obstacles that New York provided like a hot knife through butter. That was one thing she came to the realization of, of which being that New York seemed to have an innate desire to create the most elaborate obstacle course imaginable. It didn't bother the ex military woman at all as she slid through ways that made some people cringe, her unnatural precision something to make most people dream.

As they finally cleared the busy streets, Shina did dare to speed past her escort, if only for a moment, before receding back into place in the same lane, cattycorner his bike. She was anxious to test the limits of her bike, but that could wait, hell, almost everything could wait right now, as she had struck oil when picking him to ask about the fabled X-Men. He knew a lot, and from what Shina had picked up from him, he either worked or lived there. He even seemed to have some kind of direct tie to the main boss, from what she had gathered. As they pulled up the gates automatically opened, but Shina's vision could see some kind of technological energy scan the both of them. Some kind of security, she guessed.

The long driveway was nicely decorated with a variety of plants and other things, and then in the distance seemed to be a fire, at least, Shina thought so. To her, the mansion was like a horribly powerful beacon of energy, as the dozens of mutants did their normal activities. She recognized a few, but they were all blurred in the distance. The only reason she could really see them is that she projected her normal 360 degree bubble in front of her for driving purposes. That way she didn't go careening into some kind of vehicle that she wouldn't normally be able to see with her 150 foot bubble. 150 feet went quickly when travelling at 60+ MPH.

As they slowed and parked the bikes, Shina lifted her seat, grabbing a small long envelope that had been conveniently stashed under the seat of her bike. Opening it for a moment, she eyed the bit of cash she had with her, and quickly folded it and put it in her right cargo pocket, zipping it closed afterwards.

"Not sure where tha one in charge is Darlin'. I'll guaruntee it that we won't be alone for long though. Someone'll be curious enuff ter invesitgate yer presence."

Interesting enough. Shina didn't have a whole lot of energy left, and the uncomfortable as well as unnatural hunger had more than just set in. Expanding her viewing range as far as she did for that lengthened period of time was more than enough to drain her. Still, she sent out a strong pulse, this one slightly different in the way that it would penetrate walls, looking for specifically biological energy. She identified a few mutant powers right away, making a note that most of the people here were kids. She rubbed her firm stomach as the echo-information came back in, trying to sooth the hunger her energy craved.

That was about the time that her blind eyes grew wide with tension and defensiveness. Shina took a step away from the main building where she had gotten the disturbing reports of telepaths. She hated telepaths, for more reasons than just someone being able to read her mind. She faced Logan, and quickly stated "Telepaths? Why did it have to be Telepaths?¨ she did quickly note that none of them matched the one signature she was hunting for, which was good. for the telepaths, that is.

[Didn't see a closed tag on this so Scotty's joining, lemme know if it is a problem and I'll remove it.]

The most recent snowstorm had done some minor damage, knocking some dead branches off the trees, and littering the grounds. It was not a dangerous situation, but it was an untidy one, and Scott Summers was not a bit fan of untidy. Had his right knee not had been shattered by Mystique's attack, and if he had not been forced to use a cane for the duration, he would have enjoyed taking an ax and splitting the branches up. He actually was fond of physical labor, quite a bit, relishing the fact that it was simple and uncomplicated, the endorphins that were released by exercise pleasing, the pride of a job completed in a timely and thorough fashion.

But since his balance was off due to his knee, and moving around in the snow with an ax wouldn't be a wise idea, Scott had put his powers to good use, and, after switching from his glasses to his visor, he stood, the heavy glass cane Ari had given him for Christmas steadying his uneven stance, and in perfectly aimed and placed series of blasts was carving the branches into equal sized chunks. When he was done making it into manageable sized pieces, he was planning on using his powers to split it into logs for the fireplaces. Four of the offices (his included), the downstairs lounges and the family suite rooms had fireplaces, so this wood would definitely not go to waste around here.

The sound of motorcycles alerted him though, and closing the lenses on his visor, he turned and headed up the path he had cleared for himself to investigate. Logan on his modified Harley, and... someone new on a Suzuki...Hayabusa, his vehicle-loving mind supplied. Nice bike. He was more a Harley man, himself, but he could appreciate the beauty in the vehicle.

His appreciation for the newcomer's ride notwithstanding, there was more important factors here. No one had informed him a new arrival, and while newcomers came and went all the time, Logan was not usually the one who brought them, so that meant this was not a child seeking assistance and schooling. Scott headed up the driveway to the unattached garage and caught the fading sound of Logan's words as he entered. "Not sure where tha one in charge is Darlin'. I'll guaruntee though, we won't be alone for long. Someone'll be curious enuff ter invesitgate yer presence."

"Telepaths? Why did it have to be Telepaths?¨

"Curious might not be the exact word, but maybe I'll do in the Headmistress's absence," Scott said, looking over the newcomer, a woman with a decidedly military stance to her. He smiled slightly at her concern over the telepaths and said, "Some of my best friends can read minds." He said, obviously thinking of his fiancee, "But don't worry, Jean always asks permission first." He extended a hand, "Scott Summers," he introduced.

(((Since I am to be the focal point, I shall post between everyone to give myself time to react... and don't worry... we kinda anticipated someone joining... although it is convienent it's you...)))

Shina smirked as she saw someone hobbling in their general direction, obviously someone who had been injured recently. Shina did a thorough scan, and noted his headgear. Upon further investigation, she found that all his mutant power was focused through his eyes, and even though his special headgear kept him from blasting them all to kibble, it was firing constantly, just being restrained by the special vizor that he wore like a second skin. Just behind the vizor was sheer chaos... and an abundance of energy.

Shina thought for a mere moment and realized one way she could gain his trust... but he was going to have to take a huge leap of faith with her... something that he likely wasn't going to do... at least, not yet.

"Curious might not be the exact word, but maybe I'll do in the Headmistress's absence,"

He had authority... interesting. Perhaps authority was the wrong word, but so was rank. He was cautious too... which said volumes. It wasn't just Logan's nature... something had happened to make this institute on edge, or on alert for danger... and appearently she fit the look, at least. Still, that was good... that meant that they were doing everything in their power to keep all these kids safe.

"Some of my best friends can read minds."

"So I see..." Shina said quickly...

"But don't worry, Jean always asks permission first. Scott Summers,"

She shook his hand firmly, but not enough to cause him to wonder. "As long as they all have that policy, and they don't mind being turned down every time, I will keep a 'live and let live' attitude. I am not much for telepaths..." she stated in a matter-of-fact tone. Then she shifted, moving closer to this man for a moment.

Shina had a dozen questions to ask, but right now, there was only one in her mind that was prevelant. Only one that could be in her mind, and her stomach. He had an abundance of energy... she needed some, bad. It was a match made in heaven... that, and she knew that if she did what she did for a moment, he might be able to see out of something other than the red vizor... even his natural eyes.

Shina took one more step, only about half a foot seperating the two, and raised her arms slowly, as to not alarm the man. Shina then stated in a simple and most honest voice... "I need your help... and I might be able to help you out in turn, even if it is for only about 20 seconds... I need some energy, and your eyes are pouring it out like their's no tommorrow. If I take some, just enough to replenish myself, you can gain your normal non-energy sight back for a couple seconds, and don't worry, I won't drain enough to make you tired... but the question is... do you trust me?"

She waited patiently for a responce. If he didn't react positively, she was going to have to find somewhere to feed soon... she was dangerously low, almost to the point where the hunger would start to turn to pain. She was guestimating the time in which she could hold his energy back, but she was relatively accurate.

She shook his hand, but didn't offer her name. Interesting mixed message she was sending. Scott glanced to Logan, not turning his head, so the glance would not be seen. He was judging the other man's stance towards this woman. He wouldn't have brought her here, where all the children were, if he didn't think she was safe... or at least, a minor threat. He wondered how they had met, and would be asking Logan for a complete report on this no matter what the outcome happened to be. It was not that he didn't trust the Wolverine's judgment, it was just how Scott worked,

At her comments about the telepaths, he said, "Your privacy is, of course, your concern, but you must understand our position here. We don't have our telepaths randomly go through the minds of our staff and students, nor do we allow our ferals to chew them up for a bedtime snack or our fliers to carry them around willy-nilly. But there is a degree of security that must be maintained and if we feel that you are being less than forthcoming, we will expect some sort of assurance. We don't utilize our telepaths as secret police, but hidden agendas are not the way to win our trust."

What she said next startled him, and Scott Summers was not a man who startled easily.

Scott put his hand to his visor and frowned, "Do I trust you? I don't even know you, and frankly, the levels of energy that I produce are not going to be given lightly to someone I just met. You need to recharge or whatever it is you need to do, we'll figure a way to help you. But there is no way I am going to allow you to take energy from me without knowing a whole lot more about you."

He dropped his hand so that they both rested on the round knob of his glass cane, the small red x inside turning slowly. "Besides which, just because you can gauge the level of my power, does not make you necessarily capable of using it to charge up in a way that is at all safe to the students. You have a health issue when your powers are low, we'll handle that, but until I get more information, you're going to remain depleted." Now, he turned his head to Logan to let him know that he was being addressed. Logan knew Scott well enough by know to know the way he moved. Scott always turned his full head towards the person he was addressing, knowing the limitations of having his eyes covered. "Unless you have reason to believe that not allowing her to charge will do more harm."

He was basically asking Logan to explain this woman, since he was clearly not getting answers from her.

((Now, Shina, we've been ordered to wait for Logan to respond by the Admins))

OOC: Yes, do please wait for me. Thankies ^_^. An, yer more than welcome here One-Eye *chuckles*.

With a power like hers, Logan had no doubt she’d started reading the signatures of every mutant on the grounds probably even before the gate had opened. Okay, there was another security problem… damnit! Shaking his mind away from the rather annoying tangent, his eyes were still where they had been the moment she pulled up beside him, watching her carefully, waiting for any sign that this was a trick… and that HE had been tricked;; truly pity the person who ever dared to do that again!

With the widening of her eyes, Logan’s attention was truly peeked, and, with the mention of telepaths, he couldn’t help but grin, “Yer don’t like em either, huh?” he simply stated, picking up on a very familiar scent coming their way. Seriously, not a surprise someone was coming, nor the fact it just so happened to be the other half of the security detail around here. "Curious might not be the exact word, but maybe I'll do in the Headmistress's absence," Logan just nodded, ~Yeah, yer’ll do,~ he thought, going back to the thing he loved the most, watching, observing, locking away reactions and body language, this time by the one he didn’t know very well at all. It would take time to be truly able to read Shina, for now, he was content with what all bar a small part of him was already sure of, that she was here to genuinely join their ranks.

"Some of my best friends can read minds." He said, obviously thinking of his fiancee, "But don't worry, Jean always asks permission first." He extended a hand, "Scott Summers," he introduced.

"So I see..." Shina said quickly... "As long as they all have that policy, and they don't mind being turned down every time, I will keep a 'live and let live' attitude. I am not much for telepaths..."
with the conversation now clearly between them, for now, Logan merely smiled to himself at that revelation. The woman was so much like him it was starting to become scary. The only thing missing was the adamantium and regeneration powers, their personalities, likes, and dislikes, so far, were very much the same.

It was both interesting and expected how Scott wasted no time in assuring this stranger of her privacy, and other aspects that really did need to be laid down. Logan couldn’t agree more that if she did nothing to earn Scott’s trust, even though she’d done a fair amount already to earn his, she would see a side of Logan that would put everything into perspective. So, Shina’s next move... well, it went a long way to quelling the last unsure parts of his mind. Not only had she just openly told them her weakness, she’d trusted Scott enough that he would do nothing to hurt her if he agreed to allowing her to feed from him. Indeed, this was a most interesting state of affairs, for, her offer wasn’t really a case of trust, more the case of barely knowing her, to even think Scott would say yes to what she’d just proposed, based on that fact alone! It wasn’t going to happen… still, Wolverine was curious as to what Scott’s reaction would be, for, right now, his own reaction was a simple raise of the eyebrows, and something clicking in his mind as to why she had looked a bit on the sickly side for the past hour or so.

Basically, ‘no way, I don‘t even know you‘ was Cyke’s reaction, as had been expected, Logan inwardly chuckling. Heck, had she asked him the same question, his reaction would have been same as well, only, probably a tad bit more aggressive. He went from leaning back on his bike to standing up properly the moment he saw the telltale sign that his friend was about to address him, "Unless you have reason to believe that not allowing her to charge will do more harm." How eactly was he supposed to answer that? He’d only just found out the weakness himself.

Although…

“I ain’t an expert on her power, Cyke, all I know is that she's legally blind, but has another means ter see, some sort of energy wave. I'm thinkin it drains her, an doesn’t hunger like that turn inter pain eventually? I’m not sayin yer should be tha one to help her out here, just reckon that watchin her double over ain’t somethin I wanna see,” turning his gaze towards Shina, he added, “There is someone that could help yer, but yer need ter suck it up an give us more reasons ter trust yer first. Tellin ‘ol One-Eye here what yer told me at the airport would be a good start, Darlin,“ then, as an afterthought, “How long yer think yer’ve got before it gets real bad?” he asked.

“Yer don’t like em either, huh?”

“I have had a bad run-in with one of them…” she stated, then pausing to focus on Scott again. His power was most interesting to her on a different level. She didn’t really hate all telepaths… they hadn’t chosen the gifts that were given to them, just like Shina didn’t ask to have her power, but she did, and she genuinely thought she could help him… maybe if she truly tried, on a more permanent basis. She could see the disrupted channels of energy in his eyes, the natural control mechanism, basically jammed on ‘open’. But that would have to wait, most obviously, considering that he didn’t trust her yet.

"Do I trust you? I don't even know you, and frankly, the levels of energy that I produce are not going to be given lightly to someone I just met. You need to recharge or whatever it is you need to do, we'll figure a way to help you. But there is no way I am going to allow you to take energy from me without knowing a whole lot more about you. Unless you have reason to believe that not allowing her to charge will do more harm."

“Actually, sir, my asking you should have brought you at least some level of trust, considering what you just said. No hidden agendas… just integrity. I don’t lie… to anyone.” she had finished her statement in a tone that almost bordered irritation. She didn’t like being called a liar at all, and it wasn’t something that she would ever be accostumed to. She had actually hurt people’s moral by stating the honest truth, because it usually was less hazardous than the simple ‘white lies’ that most people live by.

“I ain’t an expert on her power, Cyke, all I know is that she's legally blind, but has another means ter see, some sort of energy wave. I'm thinkin it drains her, an doesn’t hunger like that turn inter pain eventually? I’m not sayin yer should be tha one to help her out here, just reckon that watchin her double over ain’t somethin I wanna see,”

His analysis was astoundingly accurate… considering she didn’t tell him all that much. Shina realized that his skills and traits were probably more profound than his outer brutish look portrayed. Shina turned away from Scott finally, her face aimed directly at Logan now.

“There is someone that could help yer, but yer need ter suck it up an give us more reasons ter trust yer first. Tellin ‘ol One-Eye here what yer told me at the airport would be a good start, Darlin’. How long yer think yer’ve got before it gets real bad?”

“About half an hour.” she stated simply, nodding to what he had said in the former part of his sentence as well. Turning back to Scott, it could be noted that her dull blue glow in her eyes was now completely gone. She had turned off her vision to conserve energy, and was now truly blind, aside the normal things that came to a blind person’s aid. Sight, hearing, all the senses were now her guiding force.

“My name is Shina Schwarz, and I have recently been discharged from the U.S. Army because I broke my commanders arm after he tried to use my artillery to shell a village of innocents.” she paused, allowing that sentence to soak in… “While I do understand that for one reason or another that you are on a high level of alert, I genuinely want to help you. The Army is all I have known, and I want to continue my service in a way that can benefit people here, on the CONUS side.” Shina then realized he probably didn’t know what CONUS meant, but if Logan truly was military, he would know…

(((OOC: Sorry about that, I shall wait for both from now on… and in case neither of you know but your character might, CONUS = Continental United States… basically instead of overseas, right here.)))

“I have had a bad run-in with one of them…” she stated, then pausing to focus on Scott again.

"A regettable situation in this new world we find ourselves in," Scott said, simply, "But you've entered, willingly, into a high security situation and we aren't taking any chances. In fact, my fiancee Jean, a telepathic/ telekinetic and the school's therapist, has already been informed about your request and your concerns, and I have to say, she is not pleased. She's on her way down, to speak with you in person, as she isn't willing to violate your personal space concerns. She is, as I've said, not the secret police."

Shina tried to explain her position, "Actually, sir, my asking you should have brought you at least some level of trust, considering what you just said. No hidden agendas… just integrity. I don’t lie… to anyone.”

"I'm not suggesting dishonesty, Miss." Scott said, not hurriedly or as if he is back pedaling. He didn't do that, back down, not easily, anyway, not without a fight. He hoped this situation would not come to that. "But, you didn't ask to feel out my power, to judge my energy levels to the degree that you would know if they would be compatible or manageable with your particular needs." Scott closed his eyes tight, and slipped his glasses from his shirt pocket. He put his visor around his neck and replaced it with the red shades, hiding his eyes again, doing it with practiced motions that allowed not even a twinkle of red light to escape. "That in and of itself is a breach of my own privacy, something that you don't know me well enough or at all for that matter to freely discuss. Forgive my abruptness, but my power is dangerous, uncontrolled, and not something I generally allow people to tamper with."

Logan made his plea then, and Scott said, simply, "I understand, Logan, and I have no wish to make our guest suffer. I know what it can be like to be at the mercy of one's powers, believe me, I know all too well. Who is it you're thinking can help her with this situation? Pain or not, I am afraid that I will need some sort of supervision before I allow a student to... feed her, as it were."

He didn't notice that her eyes had faded in color or glow, as he was incapable of seeing anything but shades of red. He did understand though that time was of the essence here. She, at last, introduced herself and her purpose her, and his expression didn't change. Military, explained a lot, though not how she passed military physicals without either her blindness or genetic status being discovered, and realized her commanding officers likely did know. It wouldn't be the first time that a mutant would be used in ways that a human would not be. Explained too Logan's confidence... hopefully not over confidence, in her. After all, Scott had been a military brat, himself, for the first eleven years of his life. He understood what loyalties the service entailed. He didn't even puzzle over the term CONUS. He was well read, well studied, and well prepared was Scott Christoper Summers.

But he was not a man who trusted lightly.

"If you're army, why do you come to what is essentially a school, Miss Schwarz? Peacekeepers or no, we are not a paramilitary, quasimilitary or even neomilitary organization." Scott made a sweep of the air with his cane and said, "This is a school, for children to learn to function within society with or without their powers, and to prepare them for a future that will very likely not be kind to them, unless we continue to move forward. If you are looking for a battle squad, I'd suggest SHIELD. They've got a 'superhuman' program that could probably use a woman of your training and drive."

He was not shooing Shina away, oh no, quite the contrary. Scott had been around long enough that, with proper handling, he could judge whether or not the person in front of him was dangerous. Answer: Yes. But could she be useful as well. Answer: Yes. None of this showed in his face though.

He was Cyclops of the X-Men, and his near dismissal of her and her abilities was a test of sorts. Would she pass?

Telepathy, Telekinesis
The direct and continuous rapport shared by Jean and Scott was only known by a few. Normally, each nestled in the back of the other’s mind, receiving vague whispers and impressions; like the sound of the surf to people who live in the beach, the connection was usually only half heard. However, the stir caused by Shina’s request made it’s way through the connection and as she was making way from her office to the kitchen, stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes wide.

Consciously, she would deny the idea that she was a possessive person where Scott was concerned but inwardly, she was acutely aware of things that happened to him which didn’t fall into the range of normal occurrences.

After looking through Scott’s memories of his encounter with Logan and… their guest, Jean made an abrupt detour. Summoning her coat and hat to her, she was out the door and heading for the garage in moments.

As she walked along the cleared path from the main house to the garage, significant bit and pieces of their conversation, heard through Scott’s ears, replayed in her mind; each one winding up her temper and irritation, although she tried not to let it show.

“Telepaths? Why did it have to be Telepaths?... I will keep a 'live and let live' attitude. I am not much for telepaths… Yer don’t like em either, huh? … I know is that she's legally blind, but has another means ter see, some sort of energy wave. … I have had a bad run-in with one of them… …No hidden agendas… just integrity….”

And lastly, Scott saying, “But, you didn't ask to feel out my power, to judge my energy levels to the degree that you would know if they would be compatible or manageable with your particular needs. That in and of itself is a breach of my own privacy….” A small smile formed on Jean’s lips at that, Scott’s detail-oriented mind flagging the dichotomy of resenting telepaths because they might peer into her mind uninvited and yet, using her powers to detect personal information about other people without their knowledge or consent.

Shina had the bearing and appearance of a tomboyish military woman and Jean was clearly the exact opposite, from the winter breeze riffling her skirt’s hem at her knees up to the white fluffy cap perched on Jean’s long red hair; she looked soft and feminine.

“Hello, I’m Jean,” she said without much of a preamble. She regretted breaking in after Scott’s speech about this being a school, not a military unit, but the inference that telepaths were less trustworthy because of their powers had gotten under her skin. The fact that Logan had more or less agreed, and his you don’t like them either, huh? comment, had stung; she’d expected it from a stranger, not from an old friend and her eyes glittered with the prospect of a little subtle payback and bringing out some hard truths for him to hopefully think about.

“Privacy in the school is a sensitive issue,” Jean said, starting nice and friendly, “and to a certain extent, to live here you have to trust that the people with the ability to know things about you without asking, won’t go out of their way to intrude in you personal business… even if you don’t like that they can do it.” Her eyes turned from the newcomer and focused on Logan for the first time.

“Take Logan, for example,” she said, her eyes locking with his. If Shina was able to detect Scott’s abilities, Jean bet that what she was about to reveal about Logan wouldn’t be anything new to her. “The moment I stepped out here, he was breathing in the aromas around me… his mind automatically telling him what I’ve eaten, where I’ve been, and what I’ve been doing,” she cocked her head slightly to one side. “He identifies people by their scent before they enter a room and he can hear private conversations through walls. Although I’m not saying that Logan goes out of his way to do these things,” she let the sentence linger a moment, “he can… and does”.

In fact, what stung the most about Logan agreeing with this woman about telepaths, was that she had literally spent years training to develop strong mental shields and the stamina to keep them up all day, specifically to protect the privacy of the people around her and keep herself from picking up the ambient thoughts and emotions people broadcast, much like do their smells… however in contrast, Logan had never even used anything as simple as nose and ear plugs to keep from invading the privacy of others at the mansion.

With Shina scanning anyone she pleased and Logan’s enhanced senses perpetually active, it seemed to Jean that the only privacy they were really concerned with was their own. Shina had detected her -the telepath- and Logan smelled her scent as she joined them, she hoped that they would spot the irony that she hadn’t used her powers on either of them.

“Still,” Jean said with a sigh, turning away from Logan and back to the new arrival with a small welcoming smile, “we all have to learn to co-exist with each other as best we can.”

“I have had a bad run-in with one of them…” that was usually the reason for it, that ability in the wrongs hands was like a nuclear bomb in the hands of a country not hesitant to use it. Logan disliked the power, not the people behind it, it wasn’t their choice to be born with that particular mutation. Two of his closest friends were telepaths, it never for one moment occurred to him that Jean would take offence to that comment, for, he believed, had she heard it via the rapport she often had with Scott, that she’d of understood why he didn’t like people in his head. It was nothing personal, never was, and it never would be.

“About half an hour.” not long, not long at all, Logan really did need to inform Scott of who it was he was positive wouldn’t hesitate to help Shina, yet, at the same time, he too was looking for more reasons to trust the woman. He’d never forgive himself if he led her to one of their resident healers, only to find it was all a ruse;; to see one of their own hurt because he’d been too quick to trust someone who reminded him so very much of himself. He resigned himself to simply listening, yet again, waiting for the next time he was directly addressed… until then, he simply waited, patience something learned over many, many years of living.

At the mention that Jean had been informed of what Shina had asked of Scott, Logan wasn’t the least bit surprised. A request like that wasn’t something that could be made without both a visible and emotional reaction, one Jean would easily pick up on via the bond she and Scott shared. "I'm not suggesting dishonesty, Miss… "But, you didn't ask to feel out my power, to judge my energy levels to the degree that you would know if they would be compatible or manageable with your particular needs." Logan raised an eyebrow. He admitted he knew a lot, but when it came to individual abilities and the ramifications something like Shina’s request could have on them… he hadn’t the faintest idea. Uncomfortable wasn’t the way to describe how Wolverine felt right now. Scott’s words made so much sense, only proving more and more why he was the leader of the X-Men. Where Logan had the brawn, Scott most certainly had the brains, and the ability to look deeper than Wolverine would ever be capable of.

“I’m not talkin about a student,” the Canadian said, gaze catching his friend’s when the question came. “I wouldn’t even consider allowin it if she were,” and he would have gone on, however, figuring out exactly if Shina could really be trusted was more important right now. If anyone was capable of doing it, it was Scott, and in ways better than any scent or reading of body language ever could. Therefore, Logan knew exactly what he was trying to do, questioning her about why she’d come to the school, staying silent, and watching for Shina’s reaction and response, the answers something he was really interested in learning himself.

“Hello, I’m Jean,” yes, he had picked up on her scent long before she’d entered the garage, but no, he hadn’t gone any further after that. He had more control over his abilities than it seemed they knew, even now, after all this time. He had no clue what she’d been eating, or what she’d been doing, because it wasn’t his place to look. “Privacy in the school is a sensitive issue… and to a certain extent, to live here you have to trust that the people with the ability to know things about you without asking, won’t go out of their way to intrude in you personal business… even if you don’t like that they can do it,” when Jean’s gaze turned to focus on him, Wolverine knew he’d was in for it. For reasons he could not understand, something he’d said had been taken the wrong way, and now, he was in for a wake up call, which, came in the most subtle of ways, as it always did when it was Jean behind it.

He made no attempt to disagree with any of her points, even though some of them were not true, Although I’m not saying that Logan goes out of his way to do these things,” she let the sentence linger a moment, “he can… and does,” oh, well, that was at least nice of her. She may as well have just said he was really a telepath himself, for all the good it’d do to allay any of Shina’s fears… not that the ex military woman wouldn’t have already known about his enhanced senses. ~Suck it up Logan, yer may not have meant it tha way it’s clearly been taken, but now yer have an apology ter make,~ and this thought was very much open to Jean, and, no doubt to Scott too, via the redheaded telepath, his words honest, even though that part of him that would always be Logan, didn’t think he should have to apologize at all.

“Still,” Jean said with a sigh, turning away from Logan and back to the new arrival with a small welcoming smile, “we all have to learn to co-exist with each other as best we can,” damnit! The last thing Logan wanted to do was offend those he’d been friends with for a long time, however, Jean was right on so many more levels than she probably even realised. No matter how hard he tried, Logan did things, said things, and acted before he thought at times, simply paying for the way he was, something he couldn’t exactly help, yet, tried his darned best to try.

"A regrettable situation in this new world we find ourselves in, but you've entered, willingly, into a high security situation and we aren't taking any chances. In fact, my fiancée Jean, a telepathic/ telekinetic and the school's therapist, has already been informed about your request and your concerns, and I have to say, she is not pleased. She's on her way down, to speak with you in person, as she isn't willing to violate your personal space concerns. She is, as I've said, not the secret police."

Shina sighed with the mention of the ‘regrettable situation’. They honestly had no idea why she had a deep seated hatred for those who used that ability ‘willy-nilly’ per say. The fact that it had been the root cause of her family’s death, and that she would forever be searching for that person’s energy signature. “Believe me when I say I do not distrust those who are telepaths… I simply just don’t trust them either. Trust is something that must be earned. Thus far, I do trust you and Logan to some extent, but as you said, this is a place that is completely new to me.” Shina finished. She pondered something else as well… she had been right about the situation, they were in a high state of alert, and if it was judged by her, a VERY high state of alert. Something was either coming or had happened here recently.

"I'm not suggesting dishonesty, Miss. But, you didn't ask to feel out my power, to judge my energy levels to the degree that you would know if they would be compatible or manageable with your particular needs. That in and of itself is a breach of my own privacy, something that you don't know me well enough or at all for that matter to freely discuss. Forgive my abruptness, but my power is dangerous, uncontrolled, and not something I generally allow people to tamper with."

“But the level of privacy invaded is different. I ‘see’ by sensing energy… and you have it pouring from your eyes like the floodgates to the Hoover Dam. I didn’t and never will read something as discrete as your thoughts.” Shina was not without her points, and she had plenty of reasons to justify why her ability was far less invasive. Regardless, it probably wasn’t helping matters to start an argument with the person who was either in charge or directly below. She wasn’t here to try to make waves at all. That was when Logan spoke of how she was going to need to get some energy from somewhere.

"I understand, Logan, and I have no wish to make our guest suffer. I know what it can be like to be at the mercy of one's powers, believe me, I know all too well. Who is it you're thinking can help her with this situation? Pain or not, I am afraid that I will need some sort of supervision before I allow a student to... feed her, as it were."

Shina hated that term, ‘feed’. Her ability was something that had never been without its drawbacks. All her abilities were actually really quite effective at their individual jobs, but they were draining. She was like a massive battery, but always slowly lost its charge over time. Shina remembered that a couple steps back was a car with a low hood, at least, when she had her vision active. With it inactive, it still dissipated, but at a far slower rate. She was trying to save her energy for when she needed to move from point A to point B, and slowly edged back, feeling the air with her hand until it touched the smooth surface of the vehicle. This was her alternate method of sight, and one reason she always remembered what was around her and it’s relative distance to her. Sitting down slowly, she kept one hand on the car, and listen to what Scott stated next.

"If you're army, why do you come to what is essentially a school, Miss Schwarz? Peacekeepers or no, we are not a paramilitary, quasimilitary or even neomilitary organization. This is a school, for children to learn to function within society with or without their powers, and to prepare them for a future that will very likely not be kind to them, unless we continue to move forward. If you are looking for a battle squad, I'd suggest SHIELD. They've got a 'superhuman' program that could probably use a woman of your training and drive."

Shina smirked, even though she could not see the man’s face that she was speaking to. Her blind glazed eyes were aimed at his chest, the general direction she had heard his voice. “I have looked into several avenues to further provide my skills and assistance… to include SHIELD. Hell, I probably know more about them than some of their own soldiers do. I considered several options, and the one that seemed to most suit my particular abilities and goals in life is the X-Men.” she finished. She knew that this was going to need an explanation. “My father…” she then turned her head towards Logan slightly ”…my contact…” she then turned back towards were Scott was last, “… is a General in the U.S. Army. Because of his rank he has been able to ascertain information of several groups of people, and will likely be my link to information of much more. Believe me, I would rather be no other place and with no one else.”

“Hello, I’m Jean,”

Shina’s vision activated again, her eyes gaining their blue vibrant color. And good thing too, as this was the fabled telepath that Scott spoke of. She sensed a few things, then seemed to relax completely. She had some sort of barrier containing her power, but her power was massive, and very developed. She had more abundant and slightly dormant energy than Scott could ever produce, but she had her floodgates locked, tight. If every telepath had such barriers to keep them from reading her mind, she wouldn’t mind being here at all. Although hesitant, she did respond, “Good afternoon, ma’am. My name is Shina.” she stated, offering her hand to shake.

“Privacy in the school is a sensitive issue, and to a certain extent, to live here you have to trust that the people with the ability to know things about you without asking, won’t go out of their way to intrude in you personal business… even if you don’t like that they can do it.”

Shina nodded. “I understand. I shouldn’t have let my past experiences cloud my judgment and allow myself to become prejudice at all. Being a school whom is the home to so many mutants, you obvious have security protocols and regulations in place to keep the peace. I should have thought of it sooner. she finished. Shina’s eyes once again completely faded of color and regained their normal glazed look.

“Take Logan, for example, the moment I stepped out here, he was breathing in the aromas around me… his mind automatically telling him what I’ve eaten, where I’ve been, and what I’ve been doing. he identifies people by their scent before they enter a room and he can hear private conversations through walls. Although I’m not saying that Logan goes out of his way to do these things, he can… and does.”

Shina considered this. While it didn’t explain what his real mutant ability was, the one which flowed through his entire body, or the metal skeleton or the claws, it did make sense how he was able to detect the couple in the parking garage. Most interesting.

“Still, we all have to learn to co-exist with each other as best we can.”

“Obviously. I apologize again for my preconceived and wrong judgments.” She would first gain their trust… but then she was going to need to have a nice long sit-down talk with both Jean and Scott. Scott, she truly did believe that she could do something for… Jean… might just be able to find this single woman she had been hunting for most of her life.

“But the level of privacy invaded is different. I ‘see’ by sensing energy… and you have it pouring from your eyes like the floodgates to the Hoover Dam. I didn’t and never will read something as discrete as your thoughts.”

"And neither would any telepath with an ounce of morality, in our employ or otherwise, which, you would not have known even resided in this school if you hadn't performed some sort of scan of the grounds, since I trust that Logan was not randomly listing the types of mutations present," Scott said, his voice still not raising so much as one increment. This was a man in control of himself, obviously to compensate for the lack of control he had over his powers. "And, the point is, whether or not you had to probe my mind to get the information regarding my powers, you have no idea the level of decorum a person with an energy level like mine must maintain, and your request was invasive. It assumed far too much on your part about how freely I discuss my abilities and I'm merely pointing out the hypocrisy of your prejudices, that's all. I'm a schoolteacher, Miss, I tend to lecture."

Scott turned to Logan, capping this portion of the conversation as cleanly as shutting a door. He knew he was not exuding an air of warm friendliness, but then no one who knew him would have expected differently. He was not a man who welcomed newcomers without careful scrutiny. And, while he understood that not only children were in need of their help, frankly he felt that adult, highly trained mutants such as this woman, were not the priority of the school. And her secrecy as well as Logan's was starting to make him secretly wish that they did have the lack of scruples that would allow Jean to take the information directly from them both. He was not a particularly patient man, though his tightly bottled emotions often made it seem as if he was unphasable.

Shina proclaimed her reasons for wanting to be here. But Scott didn't understand what she was really saying. Link? Contact? Information about other groups? His lips twitched in amusement as she boasted about her knowledge of SHIELD. She might think she knew a lot, but no one outside of Nick Fury himself truly knew how deep that organization went. However, he betrayed nothing in his tone as he asked, "And those life goals would be what, Miss Schwarz?" He was specifically addressing her in a formal but civilian manner, de-emphasizing her military background so that she might understand the nature of this school more. It was not a training facility for the X-Men. It was an educational institution and a haven for youngsters with mutant abilities. The X-Men was and always would be simply an option, for most of the students here. Scott had been the only one without a choice, because of who he was, there had never been a decision to make in his mind.

A decision would have to be made here though, and soon if Logan's assessment of how long they had before the woman's need was dire was accurate, which knowing Logan, it probably was.

“I’m not talkin about a student,” the Canadian said, gaze catching his friend’s when the question came. “I wouldn’t even consider allowin it if she were,”

Scott could only assume he was talking about Mana Cavanagh, her healing abilities possibly able to help with Miss Schwarz's power problem. If Miss Cavanagh chose to help, well, that was her own business, as she was an adult and no longer a student of the school, but Scott did hope that her common sense would force her to make an informed decision regarding all this. He was about to ask for more information from the Wolverine, when he felt the calm and comfort of Jean, several beats before she actually entered the garage, a warm pulse along the rapport they shared, and he sent the feeling back towards her, knowing she was upset.

She entered and he just stood back and watched as his capable and collected love laid things out in as succinct a manner as possible. He couldn't help but admire her poise and grace. She basically tore into both of the closed minded couple and did it with such pointed delicacy, like a surgeon's scalpel cutting only exactly what needed to be cut, that Scott's pride and pleasure in her swelled through their telepathic link. She managed to be abrupt and welcoming all at the same time, and he admired that skill. It was something he could never manage to learn.

Small JP to get Jean out of here, since she is sick and isn't up to a lot of posting at the moment. Sorry for the delay, folks, but we want her well

Whatever was going to be Jean's response to Shina's justifications and complications was lost in a whirl of a whoosh and a scatter of cookie crumbs. Her lips twitched in the sort of smile that mothers give when their child has done something naughty but amusing and, perhaps not willing to flaunt the rapport she had with little Rosie, Jean spoke to Scott via her telepathy . ::Your daughter has removed her bracelet and is whooshing cookies out of the cookie jar for Meghan and Valyn.::

Without changing his expression Scott thought back, ::How come she's my daughter when she's naughty... hmm, on second thought, don't answer that.::

Jean deftly turned her smile at his joke into a smile of acceptance for Shina's clumsy though well intentioned apology, "No harm done," she said, "It might be a good idea though if I removed myself from this conversation as a show of good faith on our part." She looked at Scott, and said, "Perhaps you all could continue your conversation someplace warmer, especially if our guest isn't feeling well." And with that, Jean headed inside, planning on catching a wicked three year old telekinetic in the act of grand theft chocolate chip.

Scott watched her go, for a moment, before turning back to Shina and Logan, "She's right. Let's make our way to my office, all right? It's too cold to stand around out here and debate philosophies." It might seem odd for him to be inviting someone he didn't trust entirely into the school, but Scott Summers had his reasons, and he did nothing that he didn't think the absolutely right thing, ever.

It was suffice to say that, despite his seeming non caring attitude at times, Logan was now hesitant to open his mouth again, for fear he’d say something without thinking and offend one of those people he cared about the most. It wasn’t just that though, there was really no need for him to interject anything, even when Shina had made it a point of looking at him when she'd mentioned her contact was her own father. The conversation continued, and he once again simply resigned himself to listening, inwardly unable to help but chuckle at Scott’s, “I'm a schoolteacher, Miss, I tend to lecture," comment. If only Shina knew the half of it;; no doubt something she’d pick up on should it be proven they could trust her enough to allow her to stay.

Sometimes Logan did wish he was the one with the mind reading powers, because, there were some times he could not easily read the subtleties behind the way Cyclops looked at him, nor get any hint of what the man was thinking about. Relief soon flooded him when a smile lit up Jean’s face, and she accepted the ex military woman’s apology, and hopefully, she’d accepted his too. "No harm done… It might be a good idea though if I removed myself from this conversation as a show of good faith on our part." She looked at Scott, and said, "Perhaps you all could continue your conversation someplace warmer, especially if our guest isn't feeling well,” it was a good idea, continuing the conversation inside, Logan wondering if he should leave Shina to speak with Scott alone while he headed off to find Blade Girl.

"She's right. Let's make our way to my office, all right? It's too cold to stand around out here and debate philosophies," nodding, Logan quirked a brow towards Shina. “Definitely more comfortable than tha garage Darlin’,” he assured her. “Meanwhile, I think I should locate Mana, see if she is up ter helpin out,” if Scott was going to trust her enough to invite the legally blind mutant into the mansion, and on into what was essentially one of Scott’s personal spaces, the Wolverine was going to extend the same benefit of the doubt and at least inform Mana of Shina’s dire situation.

"And neither would any telepath with an ounce of morality--

“Tell That To The One Who Killed My Parents.” she interrupted. Her volume had not changed, but a certain hostility in her voice could give anyone a note that she was neither kidding nor pleased. She didn’t like talking about that subject… it hurt. Shina hadn’t wanted to deal with the turmoil and pain that knowing she didn’t have any birthparents brought, but she did… it had been forced on her. She didn’t ask that telepath to come in her house and kill her parents, but she did. She didn’t like that she was always really cautious around telepaths, but she was. There was a lot of things about Shina that Shina didn’t like… but there wasn’t a whole lot she could do.

Shina was too lost in pain to hear whatever it was that the man said next. To be honest, Shina didn’t truly care. She knew why she was here, she knew why she had hunted this place down… and she wasn’t leaving that easily. She drew in a painful breath, and slowly let it out, her blind eyes fixated on the ground like it was supposed to move. Her other senses still alert, she eased her hands up and rubbed her temples. Yes, Scott had struck a nerve, but the rage that now swelled within her was being bottled and contained for a time in which the fury could be put to good use or simply vented. Now was not the time.

"And those life goals would be what, Miss Schwarz?"

Shina looked up for a moment, looking towards where she had heard Scott’s voice. “To protect others like you and me. Sure, being a teacher and a peacekeeper are added bonuses, should I be given those tasks, but my main reason is because I see what is happening out there… I watch as mutants are attacked by those who don’t understand or are jealous, and in turn, the mutants fight back or feel oppressed, starting more violence. I just want to be part of what might stop it… what might protect the peace… and I for one know that SHIELD doesn’t always keep their nose clean.” she stated, the last part being in a ‘matter-of-fact’ tone.

"No harm done. It might be a good idea though if I removed myself from this conversation as a show of good faith on our part."

It seemed that her apology was accepted. It wasn’t like Shina was afraid of telepaths… she could, if she had any energy, actually see the tendrils of a telepath’s energies as they worked around. She even noted the link between Jean and Scott when she had her energy active, but then again, they were to be married… so that only made sense. The only way to know for sure that there were no secrets, she supposed.

"Perhaps you all could continue your conversation someplace warmer, especially if our guest isn't feeling well."

Shina’s paranoia told her that perhaps Jean had read her mind, but then she shook it off mentally. She had just told her that she wasn’t going to, and the link that Jean and Scott shared was likely the reason she was able to figure that much out.

"She's right. Let's make our way to my office, all right? It's too cold to stand around out here and debate philosophies."

Shina simply nodded and rose off the car with a single motion, bringing her arms back down to her sides. She conjured her energy to her eyes, and her vision temporarily returned, although it was almost like everything was extremely dim. She had less energy than she thought.

“Definitely more comfortable than tha garage Darlin’. Meanwhile, I think I should locate Mana, see if she is up ter helpin out,”

She heard Logan’s words, and as she turned to look at him, her vision dimmed even more. A slight scowl played on her lips as she watched him leave, just as the darkness once again took a hold. Shina cursed but once, her completely glazed eyes looking back towards where she had last seen Scott. She knew she was going to regret saying what she was about to, but there was no way around it. She hated this feeling… helplessness, needing the help of others.

“I don’t have the energy to maintain my vision… I don’t suppose you would mind helping me to wherever it is we are going? I just need you to warn me of steps or anything like that. I can hear well enough to follow on flat ground, so please lead the way.” she said, still trying to be defiant. She wouldn’t look like a fool to the point that she had to be hand-led… that was a bit too much for her pride to handle.

Shina now waited him to lead her away from the garage, hoping that Logan would hurry with whatever aide it was that he was trying to aquire.

The pain had started.
