Piotr walked along the path that lead to the waterfall. He could already heard the sound of the water hitting rocks, and his blue eyed gaze continued to watch the path ahead as his mind filled with different thoughts. He still couldn't stop beating himself up over Kitty. Piotr and Bobby were friends. Maybe not the best of friends, certainly, but they were close enough that he felt like he was betraying Bobby. Of course, Piotr hadn't done anything more than like Kitty, but he'd been trying to find a way to have more.

But, Piotr couldn't do something like that. It wasn't him. How could he actually try to be with Kitty when she was with Bobby. Groaning deeply, a sound terribly similar to a large bear, Piotr paced the rest of the way to the water fall.

As he came to the water fall, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Even in the winter, he could smell the peaceful serenity that the area gave him. This was where he came to think. He had a ton of sketches of the small area, showing its transformations through the seasons. But, this time he wasn't there to draw.

Piotr pulled his shirt up over his head, revealing his toned chest and upper body to the cold sting of the winter air. Thankfully he was more than used to the col, and could have stood out there without his shirt and in shorts, without feeling too cold. It was one of the benefits having grown up in Siberia.

Piotr slipped off his shoes, and was standing there in only a pair of shorts. He reveled in the feel of the sting of the cold air on his skin as it filled his longs. Piotr took a deep breath, and as he slowly let it out, his skin began to glint with light as it reflected light off it. Slowly stepping across the rocks with his metal feet, Piotr stepped below the water fall, and let it pound down onto his armor like body. He could feel the cold through his body, but it was not uncomfortable.

Piotr carefully sat down, and let his mind and senses wander as he let himself become a part of the landscape, like a statue below the water fall.

He was in hibernation mode, asleep in the waterfall cave, the chill of the winter putting him in an almost catatonic state. He had not eaten for several days, which would have some effect on his response time and cognitive functions, but as he was accustomed to being "put away" between missions, he would survive. In the darkness and the cold, Specimen 73826, the weapon of Mojo, cloned from the body of the dead X-Man Jonathan "Volt" Harker was undiscovered, unknown, as he slept in the shadows.

The day was unseasonably warm, which had caused the frozen waterfall to melt. It would freeze again soon, but for now, the water had begun to flow again, and the change in sound and temperature caused the puppet to stir, his eyes fluttering open, to see a sight that was beyond his comprehension at first. A man, made of metal, standing in the waterfall, inches away from the mouth of the cave.

26 was instantly awake. His lack of food meaning nothing as the genetic enhancements that had been made to his body during his construction counteracted his human needs. He was on his feet in a moment, moving close to the still metallic man, the memories that were his from his donor's mind did not recognize the man... no... a boy, almost a man, but even in the metallic form, there were signs of his youth. How did one kill a metal man? 26's hands crackled with electricity and he wondered idly if throwing a thousand volts into the waterfall would do the trick. Metal did conduct electricity.

But, that would be a detriment to his plans, wouldn't it? Longshot still rested, forgotten and safe, within the holding cells of the school that was more than a school. There must be no death until Longshot was in his possession, returned to Mojo. This metal boy's disappearance would cause too much of an outcry.

So, 26, who was bred for covert operations, decided on a new plan, one that would give him some insight on the goings on in the school perhaps, plus a cover of safety, a semblance of ignorant innocence. He lost the militaristic stance, the dark stealth of a trained killer, banishing the power that crackled from his fingertips, and he reached out, his hand adopting a feigned tremble. He touched the cold metal boy and stammered, "My-my god... are-are you real?"

Piotr was so relaxed, he felt like he was floating as the water cascaded down his metal body. Moving his metal body was much harder than he made it look, so it was far easier to keep every inch of his body perfectly still. So, it was no surprise that someone could innocently make the mistake of thinking he was a statue. So, when he first heard someone's voice behind him, Piotr was instantly startled.

Having trained a long time to get past his normally passive aggressive nature, and know how to go instantly into fight mode when danger comes, he was about to turn around and take out whoever had startled him. As Piotr turned, he went to swing one of his large fists, but the look of the person before him obviously meant him no harm, and Piotr halted himself.

Grinning apologetically, Piotr put his hands on the rocky floor and pushed himself up to his full seven foot height. The water fall crashed hard on his head, and although he was aware of it, the pressure was so little he had no trouble ignoring it. "I'm so sorry." Piotr said, still standing beneath the water fall. "You startled me is all."

"And, last time I checked I was real." Piotr said, looking down at himself. Yeah, he had such a weird effect on people. But, who wouldn't be shocked to see a muscled seven foot man made of metal. "I'm Piotr. Piotr Rasputin."

26 stumbled backwards with entirely feigned clumsiness. He stared wide eyed at the young man and whispered, "Oh my god... oh my god, you're... you're a mutant, right? A real mutant? I've seen you guys on the tv... well, back when I had a tv." He waved a shaking hand around the cave and said, "This place isn't exactly equipped with a satellite dish."

"I'm Piotr. Piotr Rasputin."

He didn't offer his hand, or anything, just stared at the huge metal form, "I'm sorry, I... I don't shake hands, but it's not because you are a mutant. It's.... well, they'll track me, you know... the government." He tapped a finger on his temple, "They tried to get me before but I'm too smart, too smart for them. Their spy cameras can't find me when I'm surrounded by all this granite." His voice was frenetic, frantic a little, a man who had lost touch with reality, like so many other vagrants, and had retreated into his own private world. Harmless for a man of Rasputin's stature and obvious might, which was the impression that 26 was going for. He put his hand to his mouth and said, "I... you aren't one of them, are you? A... spy for them? I'm not doing anything wrong, I'm just trying to survive, that's all. I didn't tell anyone... I swear."

He backed up against the wall, and slid into a sitting position, drawing his knees to his chest and wrapping his arms around them, making as small a target as he could, "I'm just so tired... so hungry..." He rested his forehead on his knees, "I haven't eaten anything but snow in days..."

"Yah, I'm a mutant." Piotr said hesitantly. Usually that revelation scared people off, which he certainly didn't want to happen. He just was trying to be honest in the hopes that this stranger might trust him a bit. "But, I' one of the good guys."

Piotr blinked stupidly. "No, it's cool. I have a friend that has a thing about shaking hands, so I'm used to it." Piotr said with what he hoped was a friendly grin. Of course, there was something slightly different. He was of course talking about Rogue. He was sure that she would have much more enjoyed shaking someone's hand... that is if she could do so without killing them.

When he realized it might actually help if he wasn't a seven foot tall behemoth, he took a deep breath, and he shrank back down to a few inches over six feet. Now he was just an average looking guy with his wavy black hair and teenage smile.

Piotr couldn't help but look skeptically at the guy. Government after him? He could understand maybe if he was a mutant or something that he might be hunted, but he didn't seem to be one, so Piotr really couldn't imagine why the government was after this guy hiding in the cave. But, he knew it wasn't his place to dig into this man's private life.

"No, I'm not. I live nearby." Piotr said. "I don't work with the government. But, I do have a place nearby, I can run back and get you some food or something." Piotr offered.

Every programmed instinct told him to strike now. Piotr was just a boy now, human appearing and helpless. But 26 had a plan now, and he needed the young mutant alive. He could go in that school and kill every single child in there before any one of them knew that there was ever a problem, but something was keeping him from it, something about that woman... those people...

26 looked up from his huddled stance, and his eyes were filled with a mix of longing and fear. "I.... I'm so hungry, but how can I be sure you won't tell? How... You could be part of it, part of them."

Standing up, he made a show of weakness, his legs giving out, and having to grab on to Piotr's arm for support. "I... I need to eat though." He said, hoarsely, "I... maybe you can bring me something and... not tell. You... won't, will you? You won't tell I am here, will you? Please?"

He looked as if he was near tears, tired and cold and lost, so very lost. He pulled away, as if he was embarrassed by his weakness, "I wasn't always this..." he muttered. "I'll get better... I will... I'm just..."

He straightened his shoulders and looked back at Piotr, "My name is David... I... need help. You'll help me, won't you, Piotr. I just need... need to make it through the winter. Maybe in spring... I will be able to go back... maybe they'll stop looking for me."

"You have my word." Piotr said, binding himself. There was no way he would ever break that. He would rather die than fail someone. It just wasn't in his nature to let people down... at least not intentionally. He let people down far more than he would ever like to admit. It was just... he had never seen how he could ever put himself before others. Admittedly, there had been times he wished gravely that he could do so, and be selfish just once. But, he'd never been able to go through it. And this was certainly no exception.

"Don't worry, I'll bring you food for as long as you need it." Piotr said, nodding his head slightly. It was Piotr's greatest flaw in his personality, although it was also one of his greatest strengths. He was far too trusting, and didn't question why this man was hiding out here, or anything. He just accepted it as how it was. And, because of it, he could not see through the act or the deception.

"Look, you stay right here. I'll be back as soon as I can. And I'll have some food for you." Piotr said with a caring smile. He loved to think he could do something to help the world, even if it meant he was doing it just one man at a time. It was worth it. So, turning his body back to metal, he turned on his heel, and took off, barging his way through the water fall and sprinting his way back to the school.

As soon as Piotr left, 26 dropped his act, standing straight and tall, his hands sparking at his side. If there was any part of him that felt shame for deceiving so trusting and helpful a young man, he didn't recognize it. He felt... nothing, and that didn't bother him, not at all. His emotional response had been bred out of him, by tweakings of his genetic code by Mojo's doctor Arize, and by conditioning that made him stronger, faster, more durable... less human.

He looked around his home... home... did that word have any meaning for him? He had no home, just a storage space in Arize's laboratory in the Mojoverse, the secret hideaway where Mojo ran his business from. When Longshot was delivered, returned to his owners, 26 would be put aside, put into stasis, his genetics enhanced, his body rebuilt, his mind re-educated. He needed it, needed repair. That woman.... Mina..., an unwanted part of him supplied.... that woman had broken him, hurt him...

He spun the ring on his finger, and the drugs it activates calm him, steady him. His new friend would soon be back. Piotr Rasputin, named for a mystic... an unkillable man... would be his access to his target. He would not need to see that woman and her daughter, those people who he could remember from his donor's life.

He sank to the floor of the cave, cradling himself like a lost child. Waiting for his friend. Waiting for his salvation. When the mission was done, 26 would kill Piotr. Spare him the shame of having invited a monster into his house... It was the very least he could do.
