Time of day: Afternoon, nearing evening...
Place in the time-line: Saturday, March 1st

The forest was frosted white. It was... cold... but they were dressed warmly, so that was okay. The young plant manipulators walked between the trees silently, hiking boots crunching lightly in the snow. Evelyn Zenadia and her older cousin Briar Niklaren didn't seem too troubled by the packs they carried on their backs. Their lives had changed so much since they'd come to the Institute. No, it was even before that... And, they themselves were changing.

Evvy was slowly -oh so slowly- getting over her fears. Her acrophobia was still terrible, but she was alright going up to the second floor as long as she didn't look down while going up the stairs and if she clung to the railing a little bit. And, as long as she stayed away from windows. One step at a time, was the way to go. Crowds still terrified her, but she'd made some friends... and could bring herself to talk to people she didn't know if she had a friend with her. Though, she couldn't help but be wary of... well, just about everyone excluding her few trusted friends...

Briar, the outgoing, cheerful, semi-wild one... was falling more and more into himself. He quietly encouraged Evelyn to make friends and to get over her fears, yet rarely talked to even the few friends he had made at the beginning of their time at the Institute. He was becoming a rare sight in the school, keeping to himself and almost obsessively messing with his plants and his herbal remedies that worked so well they were almost like magic. When he actually talked to his younger cousin, he seemed distracted. What about, is questionable.

Truthfully, they really needed some time away from the noise and going-ons of the Institute to let everything just... settle in themselves. They hadn't spent much time together, like they used to. For so long, it had been just the two of them, trying to get by the best they could. The weekend camping trip had been Briar's idea, he seemed slightly guilty about not spending time with Eve.

The spot they'd agreed on was rather deep into the forest, away from the beaten paths. The near-silence of winter prevailed, and the snow was pristine. Their footsteps were the only signs of humanity, and the teens themselves. It began to snow lightly; the sky was slowly darkening.

"This is as good a spot as any," Briar said, grinning slightly at his younger cousin. "Let's set up our tents before it gets too dark to do so."

"'kay," Evelyn said, nodding and taking her pack off as he did the same and they propped them up against a nearby tree. Then they got to work setting up their small, low, one person tents. It wasn't difficult, even with their gloves on.. "Just like old times," she giggled a little as she shoved her things into the tent, untroubled by the prospect of camping in the snow. It wouldn't be the first time, and now they had the Institute to go back to if it got too bad out here....
