Time of day: Early morning -- 8 am or so Place in the time-line: A week and a half after the wedding, while the anti-mutant hysteria is rising. All was fairly silent in the mansion. Most of the students were still abed, but Kate hadn't been able to sleep and had risen early, collecting the newspaper from the stoop. She settled in the kitchen with a mug of hot tea, flipping idly through the paper as she waited for it to cool. In the next moment, if anyone had been listening from afar, they would have heard the paper rustle as Kate turned the page, an utterly delighted shriek, the crash of a chair as it toppled over, and the thump of footsteps as Kate ran from the kitchen and up the stairs to the dormitory wing. She emerged on the second floor landing red-faced, looking around for Ari's room hurriedly. Still clutching the newspaper to her chest, Kate spotted the door and bounded over to it hurriedly and knocked, barely able to contain her excitement. "Ari!" Kate called, not ceasing her knocking. "Ari, you have to take me to the mall NOW! Please!" Her voice became urgent, though her face was still full of delight. "Gabriel Aubry and David Boreanaz are going to be there signing autographs!!!" That said, Kate paused to regain her braeth, still beaming as she waited for Ari to open the door or respond at all, but it was hard to keep from squealing again. They were two of her favorite actors/models, and for both of them to be right there at Westchester Mall was a dream. For the first time since coming there, Kate was losing her composure and acting like a teenager again -- well, preteen. |

Ari was wading through the bluest water she'd ever seen, the hot sun kissing her bare shoulders as she moved slowly into the ocean. Did Florida's beaches have such beautiful water? Ari didn't remember it being that way the last time she'd visited, but maybe wealthy people could afford prettier beaches than the public one she'd visited last year. She turned back towards the beach, cupping her hands to call in her partner-in-crime... "Ari!" Kate called, not ceasing her knocking. "Ari, you have to take me to the mall NOW! Please!" Her voice became urgent, though her face was still full of delight. "Gabriel Aubry and David Boreanaz are going to be there signing autographs!!!" Ari promptly jerked awake, the yell echoing from her mouth in the dream not the one she'd intended on. "What the hell--" she muttered groggily, her heart pumping wildly in her chest as she swung her legs over and got to her feet. She realized that it was Kate's voice sounding through the door, and her first reaction was fear. Being at the mansion everything that could go wrong, usually did. But then Ari understood that Kate was talking about the mall...and autographs. Wearing a tank top and some shorts, she opened the door quickly, "Kate--whoa lady, it's early..." Her eyes squinted as the light from the hall hit her eyes and she rubbed at one, opening it for Kate to come in. "Did you say Gabriel Aubry and David Boreanaz?" she asked, suddenly becoming more awake. "At the mall? Our mall?" |

The moment Ari opened her door, Kate pounced forward and around the older girl into the room, practically vibrating in sheer excitement. She ripped the newspaper open and stabbed at the relevant story with her index finger, nearly impaling Gabriel's printed black and white face in her happiness. "Yeah, at our mall!!!" Her voice was climbing octaves in her glee, and she gave a little bounce as she waved the newspaper around. Kate's eyes were shining. "And they're only going to be there until the afternoon, and...and...." She paused to take a breath, having turned (quite literally) blue in her haste to get the story out, and then finally seemed to realize her surroundings, and what both of them were wearing. Her skin turned from blue to blush red in a split second. "Whoops...sort of forgot what time it was." Kate herself was still in her nightgown, and she backed out of the room sheepishly. "I'll let you get dressed..." It didn't mean that she'd forgotten the autographs, because she planted another hopeful gaze onto her face. "Please?" She blurted again, before disappearing out the door. Really. David Boreanaz and Gabriel Aubry, in their own mall. What more could a girl ask for? |

Ari couldn't help grinning at Kate's exuberance, possibly never having seen her that excited before. Her brown-eyed gaze moved to look at the newspaper photo Kate's blue finger was poking at. "Wow... he's hot..." she said with a nod, taking the paper and quickly reading the details, her gaze flicking to the images of the males every few sentences. She'd always been a fan of Buffy as well, and she couldn't deny that it would've been pretty cool to meet one of the main actors. She grinned, but had to quiet down the pre-teen, "Okay, okay. Keep it down. I don't want Akito knocking with a noise complaint." Laughing slightly, she watched as Kate changed hues and began to back out of the room. So waiting on line with a bunch of crazy fans wasn't really what Ari had planned her day doing, but she did want to meet both guys, and the fact that Kate was so excited about it made Ari readily agree. "Okay, Kate you've worn me down," she said dramatically, brushing aside her red-tinted bangs. "We'll go to the mall and get their autographs..and phone numbers," she said with cheeky wink. Yes, even though it was eight in the morning, Ari still had the ability to crack a joke. |

The resulting squeal at Ari's agreement was sure to be deafening. For a long moment Kate could only stand there, thanking her lucky stars, then she whirled (still clutching the poor, now ragged newspaper to her chest) and ran back to her room. What should she wear? Kate froze in front of her closet like a deer in headlights, peering inside with a critical eye. Her overalls were much too childish...so were the jeans with flowers and butterflies along the hems. Finally she settled on a plain pair of jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, nothing too fancy, but nothing entirely normal. And now...what about her hair? "Ari!" Kate wailed, running back to the older girl's room with brush in hand. She had always been horrible at fixing her own hair; normally she just brushed it and kept it in a ponytail, but this was a different occassion, wasn't it? Realizing that she was probably disturbing other people, she lowered her voice, but there was still that sense of urgency in it as she waited outside Ari's door. And so what if she were being shallow? Kate figured she had the right to be for once, had the right to act like a normal teenager even though her skin may change color all the time. Really. She'd been waiting to feel normal for a long time. |

Ari gave a little jump at Kate's resulting scream, but damn if the girl's excitement wasn't beginning to rub off on her. As soon as Kate had exited, Ari too moved towards her closet. What to wear, what to wear... It was an autograph signing, not dinner at a fancy restaurant, so those dresses were out. Then there was the fact that they would only be there until twelve, meaning both girls had to hurry the heck up if they were even going to make it on time. There was driving time to consider, after all. Finally, Ari sighed slightly and pulled out a pair of red skinny jeans, tossing them onto her bed. Next, she pulled out a fitted black t-shirt and a short, grey denim vest. Getting dressed in a matter of minutes, the brunette pulled on some silver ballet flats, star-shaped earrings, and her leather cuffs. The ring Warren had given her was sitting on her middle finger, luckily it was silver and went well with her rockerish attire. She pulled out her straightening iron and fixed up the crinkles in her dark hair and bangs, desiring her hair to be straight today. When Kate yelled at her door, Ari was currently finishing up putting on some black eyeliner. Jumping slightly, she nearly poked her eye out, "Holy sh--" Blinking rapidly, she made her way to the door and pulled it open, a slight smirk on her lips, "Que pasa, mija?" Letting out a low laugh, she took the brush from the girl and ushered her inside, "Alright, lady. How about a super fashionable twist?" Yes, along with makeup, Ari had a knack for dealing with hair. Kate had really nice hair too, long and silky without the slightest hint of frizz. Lucky girl. Brushing through the redhead's locks, she remained quiet and focused as she worked and in ten minutes she had pinned Kate's hair up, with cool pieces of hair positioned every which way. Damn it, Kate looked cool. Ari wouldn't have had it any other way. Quirking an eyebrow, Ari smirked and moved towards her makeup trunk. Yes, a trunk. Pulling forth a turquoise colored pencil, she waved it at Kate, "How about some eyeliner?" In another minute, she stepped back and grinned at her work. Kate no longer looked twelve years old...in fact, she looked about fifteen now. Ari would be keeping an eye on her for the remainder of the day, of course, so she wasn't worried about creeps at the mall. This was about fun; something that a lot of the mansion people had too few of. If Ari was successful today, Kate would be having it tenfold. |

Kate could barely keep still as Ari started fixing her hair and makeup. Wow...was this what it was like to have an older sister? She wouldn't know, really. All she had was a little brother at home, Sam. And a dog, but a dog didn't really count in this case. Staring in the mirror, she had to admit that Ari had done a damn fine job. She didn't look twelve at all, which was absolutely thrilling. Kate hated looking so young, because no one ever took her seriously, or let her do anything worthwhile. But now, maybe Gabriel and David would think she was older...and maybe they'd want her to appear in their upcoming movie. Honestly, Kate knew that it would never happen, but a girl could have dreams, right? She sighed wistfully, eyes dreaming, and stood carefully when Ari was done, immensely pleased with the end result. "Thank you so much!" Kate gushed, turning around in front of the long mirror so that she could see the full result. She looked older, most definitely, and now....it was off to see the eyecandy! Then Kate gasped audibly. "My autograph book!" She whirled out of the room, a miniature hurricane, and after several minutes of slamming cabinets and drawers came back clutching a ragged hardback book to her chest. "I almost forgot it." Kate explained, sheepish. "Can we go now?" Again with the hopeful look; had Kate been in her kitten form, there would have been no chance. |

Ari grinned broadly at Kate's reaction to seeing herself, pleased that she'd done a good job on the preteen. "No problem, Kate. David and Gabriel better watch out. Halle Berry isn't any competition," she said with a grin. Not having any siblings, the brunette tended to shower those kinds of affections on her cousins, who lived too far away, Rosie, and now Kate. Rosie still had a ways to go, of course. But when she hit thirteen, Ari was so going to be there to give her all the talks and all the advice she could possibly give. Ari definitely had dibs on her first concert. She didn't want to think about how old she'd be then, but there was no doubt she'd make sure she still had a close relationship with Rosie. Or would she insist on being called Rose then? Weird... With Kate, it was easy to take on that role because in all honesty, Ari felt like she'd just been there. She remembered what it was like to be twelve, and later when she'd gotten her powers at fourteen... Ari remembered that too. How it felt to be unfamiliar with yourself, at a time when you already felt that way because of puberty. Ew. Ari was so glad that time was over. It didn't hurt that Kate, with her color-changing skin, was extremely likable. Ari laughed when Kate exited the room as if her butt was on fire. She quickly gathered her purse, making sure she had money, in case they were charging for autographs, car keys, her cellphone, and all the other stuff adults needed to carry around when they went out. Kate returned and Ari grinned, holding up a pen for Kate to see, before tossing it in her purse, "Just in case they run out of ink." She ushered the girl out, closing the door behind her. "Alright, let's get the heck out of here," she said, clapping her hands together and dangling her keys from her finger. [Exit to Eye Candy x2] |
