Time of day: Noonish
Place in the time-line: April 5th; months after 'Chilly Contemplation'; a few days or so after the state of the school address

The soft breeze still held the faintest hint of winter's cold, but with the sun beating down it was hardly noticable. The snow was all but gone, and pale green buds were covering the recently winter-bare tree branches. There were robins flitting about, looking for worms or building nests and the like The sky was a pale blue, with fluffy white clouds floating by so high. Students were hanging out, studying, and playing games. Ran and Lyn should've been down there too, not watching distantly from the rooftop. The scene was too good to pass up however; Lyndal had his sketchbook out and he was quite content with that. Whoever it was that had gotten it for the teen, had chosen well...

::Nice,:: Ran commented, glancing from his brother's sketchbook to the scene he was drawing and back again with a smile. He couldn't do half as well...

::Don't do that,:: Lyn complained, distracted after Ran decided to look around when he was drawing. He put the sketchbook aside, and shook his... their.. head. ::Thanks. You could, you know. Draw. I'm sure it wouldn't be horrible. Too horrible, at least. I could give you pointers.::

It took several moments for Randal to realize his twin had been teasing him. "Brat," he muttered, before grinning and continued silently, ::I think I'm going to take you up on that offer, brother-mine. Thought you were getting away lightly with teasin' me, did you?::

::And I was oh-so-wrong,:: Lyn responded. Truly, lounging around on the roof was all they were good for at the moment. Faye was babysitting Valyn again, and the hyper little dragon boy kept all involved up all night and past dawn for some time. It was a good thing it was the weekend. They slept in late, until the fluffy haired child woke them up for breakfast. Of course they had to make it, since of course the five year old couldn't cook and Faye was a menace in the kitchen...

Ran looked across the grounds as a frisbee was thrown with a little too enthusiasm and into the lake, by a familiar figure. Even from that distance, Val was easy to spot with his silvery white hair... and no way... Faye was going in after it. The water had to be freezing still! Ran shook his head, amused. Their roommate was just ridiculous...

It was strange how everything seemed alive and carefree and innocent, at first glance... the heavy darkness seemed to have lifted. It was easier to think that, up here, away from the reality. The spring day may have lifted the mood slightly, but it was nothing but a distraction... and it wouldn't last.

Having returned to sketching; the boys now were taking turns. Ran was getting a little fed up with it, truthfully. His sketches were absolute crud compared to his brothers... pathetic, really. It wasn't fair, why did his twin have all the artistic and overall creative talent?

::Stop sulking, you're getting better. And what do you expect, really? You're doing it all wrong. The perspective is off... and what's that supposed to be?:: Lyn asked, surprising his brother with his amused criticism.

“It’s, it’s the lake, obviously,” Randal muttered quietly, looking from the setting to the actual drawing. Ack. It didn’t look anything like what it was supposed to. Why wasn’t it working? “This sucks.” Once again surprising him, Lyndal laughed in the back of his mind. ::It’s not funny,:: Ran complained. This was it, he wasn’t doing this anymore. It wasn’t working, and Lyn was laughing at him!

::How long has it been since you tried to draw?:: Lyn asked, calmly, surprising his 'giggles'.

::Well, there was that catgirl that I started to draw in sociology,:: Ran commented, then frowned. That was months and months ago. Other than that, he couldn't remember actually drawing anything, since he was a kid and coloring books had seemed like such fun. No wonder he sucked at this.

::Oh, that one that I transformed into the harmless killer kitten of doom?:: Lyn asked with a smile. That picture had vanished during class, not to be seen again until christmas morning. Whoever had gotten a hold of it (see 'Anne Lee', the summoner girl), had framed it and stuck it in their backpack with a few other presents. That had been rather nice, although their roommate teased them a little about having a drawing of psycho kitten in their room.

Suddenly, to his slight annoyance, Randal found that his gaze was straying to the figures by the lake again. "Ugh, look at something more interesting," Ran said, not even caring that if someone happened upon them they would be slightly confused by this boy seemingly talking to himself. They were used to the odd looks. As if anyone else would hang around up here, who would rather be hanging out with their friends rather than lurking on the roof, anyway..
