Time Of Day: Late Night Place in Timeline: Continuing Directly from Blood Ties Vendetta. The night was still. Cold, but still. Everything on the outside was normal for as late as it currently was. Everything on the inside -a completely different story- the Wolverine’s emotions going in so many different directions all at once, he found it hard to hold the impassiveness he was usually able to maintain upon his face. Not that his ‘daughter’ would have been able to see it anyway, his helmet hiding the physical reactions of what this all now meant to him. All this time, X-23 had been out there, no doubt tortured both physically and mentally over and over, and he hadn’t known a single thing about it;; he was still unaware of who exactly was behind the Weapon X program, let alone known where his clone may have been held. It brought it all home to him, that Blade Girl had definitely not been the only one, that the three of them would soon be coming across more affected by the face behind the atrocities. Then again, had the choice not been made to ‘replace’ him, he wouldn’t now be winding through the all bar empty streets with a young woman riding shotgun whose blood was the same as his. Turning on to Greymalkin Lane, Logan immediately began to slow down, giving the younger copy of him a chance to take in her surroundings, get acquainted with the many, many smells that were sure to be hitting her senses by now. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise that he already knew what she needed. The Wolverine was within X-23, and the same could be said for the other way around. “Almost there kid,” he said, knowing her heightened hearing would pick up on words that anyone with normal ears would not be able to hear over the wind and the sound of the Harley Davidson. The gates loomed before them, Logan pulling up and looking straight at the security camera, realizing whoever was on the other side would’ve been already alerted to their arrival by now. “There it is,” he simply said, motioning with a helmet now removed from his head. Beyond the iron bars, the institute loomed in darkness, most of its occupants already asleep, and Logan would remain here for as long as it took for X-23 to realise there was life beyond those gates... The life that'd been hidden from her for so long... until now. |

The life that'd been hidden from her for so long... until now. “Almost there kid,” he said, knowing her heightened hearing would pick up on words that anyone with normal ears would not be able to hear over the wind and the sound of the Harley Davidson. The helmeted girl behind Wolverine stared at the mansion beyond the gates, taking it in. Had she been anyone else--a normal human girl--even a normal mutant girl--she might've been taking in the beautiful school, the obvious wealth, the enormous grounds. But X-23 had had a different upbringing entirely. She'd been born and bred to be a dangerous assassin; all she knew was tactics, logistics; instead of nursery rhymes, she'd learned to recite statements like "Twenty-six ways to undetectably terminate a human" and "Bribery techniques for five International destinations". Where other girls admired the tribute statue in the middle for its aesthetic qualities alone, X-23's eyes analyzed the area for combat and found it wanting. And then the peace hit her. Laura's mouth went dry as she realized there were others in there. Mutants, like her. Would they stand a chance against the facility when they came for her? She shifted uncomfortably, recalling her last run-in with Kimura. Could anyone defeat her cruel handler? Dare she stay at this peaceful-seeming place, and bring it to chaos by simply existing, like she always did? Wolverine had assured her she would be safe here--no one could find her--and Wolverine should know. He was, after all, Weapon X, and he'd eluded re-capture for years. Still. "They will find me here," Laura said in a flat voice to her riding companion, her fingers and body stiff with tension. It wasn't a question, it was a statement, born of years of experience. |

Calvin stared vacantly out the window of the taxi, watching street lights and houses turn to trees and shrubbery, he liked that this school was outside the city, he’d gotten used to the noise and the light, the smells, but he still preferred the quiet, the isolation of the wilderness. It was something he’d become fond of while his father was working on him, from what he’d seen in the brochure it was surrounded by forest all of it private land. No doubt so nobody would casually walk past to kids flying around or juggling cars, looking over the pictures for the thousandth time Mimic was still impressed, the guy who owned this place must have some serious dough. The cab pulled into a driveway and drove through a set of large metal gates, passing a couple of people on an cool motorcycle, one of them was a seriously buff guy with a weird haircut and the other still had a helmet on but judging by the slender and shapely form, Cal was pretty sure it was a girl. ‘What are they waiting for? The gates are open’ he wondered, staring back at them as the car moved past them. His curiosity was soon swept away as he admired the well kept school grounds and drew in a deep breath as he caught sight of the mansion. He’d thought the pictures impressive but they were nothing compared to the actual grandeur of the seeing the mansion in person. He’d thought the grounds themselves were pretty extraordinary and coupled with his first sight of the mansion he could only think of one thing to say “This is going to be soooo cool” Calvin murmured to himself. Realizing he was staring like a country yokel at his first mansion, he shut his mouth with a snap and schooled his face to look more unimpressed and turned to pay the cabbie as he unloaded Mimic’s luggage. Standing in front of the school, Cal got out his map and tried to work out where he was supposed to go, it was going to take him a while to find his way around this place he was sure. |

OOC:sorry for the delay...slipped my mind. Jean and Scott's wedding had happened mostly without a hitch and they had headed off safely on their honeymoon. Most of the decorations and left overs had been cleared away, and the main signs that anything of such importance had even had around the Mansion were the copious vases of flowers everywhere and the tiny little roses that were currently running around the Grounds causing tiny pockets of mischief everywhere they went. Warren was currently occupied in watching one of them prance around like they were in a marching band, one of his feathers gripped tightly in it's leafy grasp and being waved around like a baton. He had come back within the last hour or two ago from a quick run to the city, just for the evening, deciding that while Scott and Jean weren't around, he should be at the Mansion a little more frequently. The muted bleep of the security system sounded, pulling Warren from his bemused observations and he shook his head with a quiet laugh as the little creature stopped it's show and stomped it's tiny foot, waving the feather around in an attempt to regain his attention. He glanced at the screen that showed the fed from the various cameras around the Mansion, the focus on the Gate, where Logan was sitting on his motorbike, someone else sitting behind him. Wondering why the feral mutant was being so polite as to ring the door bell, rather than just riding in, Warren pressed the button that would cause the big gates to swing open. He was turning away when another alert popped up. Turning on his heel, Warren watched as a taxi came up the main driveway, through the already open Gates, while Wolverine remained where he was. Rolling his eyes in slight annoyance, Warren headed for the front door, pulling it open and stepping outside to greet whoever had chosen the middle of the night to arrive here. It wasn't exactly unusual, as most people seemed to arrive at strange times apparently, but it was vaguely inconvenient. At least he could kill two birds with one stone this way, meet the new arrival, and see what Logan was up to, because he clearly had something he wanted to discuss with someone otherwise he wouldn't have stopped at the Gates. Warren hadn't been told about any new arrivals, so he didn't have a name or power set to go on. Stepping out into the cold night air, Warren watched as a tall young man, in his late teens stood and stared up at the Mansion. "I'm going to to take a wild stab in the dark and assume you're a new student. The look of awe usually gives you away." Warren said with a casual smile as he walked down the last few steps and came to stand in front of the teenager. "Warren Worthington" He said, introducing himself as he held out a hand for the younger man to shake. "And you are?" |

He sat in silence, waiting, listening, sensing as Laura began to take in the true meaning of what was beyond the gates. He felt the subtle changes in her body, understanding she was experiencing the same things he had when he’d first seen the mansion. Was it really a safe haven where people like them could be accepted, mutants among mutants with additions added to them by the sheer will of humans wanting to use them in any way they so wished? Logan had soon found out the answer to that was yes, but he felt it would take X-23 a lot longer to accept that than he had. She had no past before the experimentation, no memories before Weapon X, nothing to really hold on to that she wasn’t really the weapon they’d made her. At the sound of an approaching car, Logan raised an eyebrow, watching as the taxi passed him, focusing on the occupant in the back seat and realizing someone else was now arriving. Unlike Angel, the lateness of the hour did not bother him, nor did it surprise him that a newcomer would be coming at a time when most would be in bed. The Wolverine didn’t sleep, so they could’ve turned up in the wee hours of the morning and he wouldn’t have cared, unless they made so much damn noise they woke up the rest of the mansion. Still, he couldn’t help but feel irritated that this was happening now, a new student arriving right when he really needed Warren’s undivided attention, and, well, the man would really need to be focused on him for this one. "They will find me here," breaking him from his reverie, Logan turned his head slightly, nodding. “Let ’em come,” was all he said, before finally driving them through the gate and up towards where Warren was now greeting Mimic. He pulled up several meters from them, however, not willing to speak with anyone other than the winged mutant on this one. “Angel,” he simply said, motioning to him. “Warren Worthington III. He’s tha one in charge at tha moment. Not taken yer any closer til he’s free though,” and with that, he signaled for Laura to dismount from the motorbike, doing the same once she had followed through. |

" I'm going to to take a wild stab in the dark and assume you're a new student. The look of awe usually gives you away." Warren said with a casual smile as he walked down the last few steps and came to stand in front of the teenager. "Warren Worthington" He said, introducing himself as he held out a hand for the younger man to shake. "And you are?" Laura cocked her head. Even through the thick layers of the helmet, she could hear the men up ahead as if they were shouting directly in her ear. Except it was much more controlled--precise. Her hearing picked up every note of Warren's voice, every subtle crackle and nuance. Her training told her his stance on the conversation--friendly and unconcerned as to physical threat; yet she still didn't understand completely what was going on. “Let ’em come,” Logan said, taking them closer. He pulled up the bike and spoke to the other mutant. “Angel,” he simply said, motioning to him. “Warren Worthington III. He’s tha one in charge at tha moment. Not taken yer any closer til he’s free though,” and with that, he signaled for Laura to dismount from the motorbike, doing the same once she had followed through. Laura reached up and pressed her fingers to the edge of her helmet, then pushed it off. Her hair whipped up in the gentle breeze like a fan, and her green eyes were wide in her pale face as she analyzed the personage that was Angel. Athletic, aesthetically pleasing, she noted with a clinical interest. Possesses two 'wings' that allow for unassisted flight. Further mutations accommodate the ability. Recently noted possibility of a secondary mutation, a healing factor. Data is unclear at the moment. Yes, she remembered the grueling training sessions she'd spent analyzing the X-men under the facility's command. She also remembered the physical abuse Kimura had dealt her every time she answered wrong--till she was a flawless robot reciting her lines. She spared a brief glance to the other mutant; she'd never seen or heard of him before. From what she could tell, he had no obvious physical mutations; that did not, however, eliminate him as a threat. She swung her leg over the bike's seat; her mental analysis had taken about eight seconds, barely a pause. Her boots touched the ground and she straightened, watching as Logan seemed to focus on Angel as well. Laura stood stiff and apprehensive, so uncertain as to her place in this situation. Every instinct in her body was telling her to run. But she did not. |

"And you are?" Calvin looked up from where he was leaning on the large bird statue as the doors to the mansion opened, and was surprised to see someone walking out to meet him, he’d already discarded the thought of a guide coming out to show him where he needed to go due to the late hour. He was supposed to have arrived at a more civilized time late tomorrow afternoon but he’d been impatient so he’d left early, not thinking about how late it would be when he arrived. Mimic blinked a couple of times as his eyes flickered to the two huge white wings that seemed to be attached to the guys back, he’d seen physical mutations before but never up this close, ‘This guy must get so many girls with that angelic look’ he mused privately. Then he realized he was being spoken too and annoyance briefly flickered through his mind ‘So much for not doing the country bumpkin impression’ he thought wryly. “Hey, yeah I’m a new student, this place is pretty impressive, I admit” Cal replied with a wry grin, he hesitated slightly as Warren held out his hand to shake, the teen most often copied powers by touch at the moment and wasn’t sure he wanted to spontaneously sprout wings. But after a slight pause he clasped hands with the winged man, shaking it firmly before letting go, he wasn’t about to admit he was scared and ignoring the gesture altogether seemed unwise with the first person he met. “Calvin Rankin, I was due to enroll here a day or so from now” Mimic introduced himself, trying to sense the weird feeling of having stored someone’s powers in his body, he hadn’t felt anything but then there had never been something as obvious as an electric jolt before so he wasn’t certain. As he was searching he heard a motorbike pull up and looked to see the pair from the gates dismounting, the passenger turned out to be a pretty brunette about his age, no doubt brought here for the same reason, he expected them to come over and introduce themselves or something but they didn’t. Shrugging to himself Calvin turned back to Warren, “So…where do I dump my stuff?” he asked deciding to get straight to the point. |

“Hey, yeah I’m a new student, this place is pretty impressive, I admit” Warren shifted his attention back to the student in front of him. Another thing Scott or Mina would be better to deal with, but as the former was on his honeymoon and the later was just not around right now, Warren was in the hot seat. He turned slightly to look at the Mansion as the younger mutant commented on it and then looked back, a smile on his features. "Yeah, it is. Even after living here for years it's still fairly special." He noticed the slight hesitation in shaking his hand, mentally storing that for later as Calvin introduced himself and then asked where he could put his stuff. Warren flicked a glance towards Logan as he caught the man's approach out of the corner of his eye. The other mutant didn't come closer though, instead hanging back with companion, speaking to her. Okay, now he was fairly confused. He really had no idea what Logan might be up to, though he was going to take a guess that it was something to do with the person behind the feral mutant. Whatever was going on, he clearly wanted to speak to Warren, though really the winged mutant imaged that it would be better for Mina to deal with all this. "Just set your stuff down in the entrance hall and I'll find out which room you're going to be staying in." Warren explained, another troubled, distracted look being sent in the direction of the two observers. "Would you excuse me for a moment Calvin? I'll be back to sort you out" he said with a slight nod before he headed towards the parked motorbike and it's two riders. "Logan, is there something I can help you with?" he asked, studying the young woman who stood by Logan for a brief moment. "Who's your friend?" he questioned, giving the girl an amiable smile as he waited for Logan to answer. |

"Who's your friend?" he questioned, giving the girl an amiable smile as he waited for Logan to answer. Laura watched the mutant--Angel--with alert, sharp eyes, taking in his every movement; save for that, and the fluttering of her hair in the gentle breeze, she was as still as stone. Where another person might have taken the question as an opportunity to jump in an introduce themselves, she had been trained to never speak unless spoken to directly; to never volunteer information that wasn't absolutely vital. Not only that, but she trusted no one at the mansion yet--except, perhaps, for Wolverine, for some odd reason. A gut instinct. On some primordial level, she knew that Weapon X would not betray himself, or someone whom he shared his DNA with. The sudden urge to trust him confused her immensely, as only hours before she had intended with all her heart to terminate him. She tilted her head slightly and eyed Logan out of the corner, taking note of his body language. Was she to trust Angel completely? |

Just set your stuff down in the entrance hall and I'll find out which room you're going to be staying in." Warren explained "Would you excuse me for a moment Calvin? I'll be back to sort you out" he said with a slight nod before he headed towards the parked motorbike and it's two riders. “Yeah, no problem” Cal replied as the winged mutant gave him distracted directions and excused himself to go see what the stand offish guy and watchful girl wanted, from the way the Warren addressed the older man he didn’t seem to be a newcomer. So maybe he was a teacher at the institute bringing in a new student? Mimic wasn’t sure what kind of teacher he was, no teacher he’d ever known was built like that or dressed like that either, but then no teacher he’d ever heard had wings growing out of their shoulders. At a guess Cal decided he must be the Gym teacher or martial arts instructor, it was the only jobs he could fit the muscular dangerous looking man into in his mind, something about him just didn’t say white boards and homework. Well Calvin guessed he could always ask the girl afterwards, they were going to the same school after all, they were bound to bump into each other. Lifting his luggage once again Mimic carried it inside the large doors to a larger entry hall. The inside of the mansion, like the outside was very impressive and simply screamed of money and class, lots of it, high ceiling, lots of polished woodwork, even what looked like an elevator. ‘I could definitely get used to living in this place’ the adolescent thought as he leaned against and wall and waited for his guide to finish with the motor cycle couple and show him to his room, Cal hoped it’d be as flash as the rest of the place. |

Glancing briefly at Laura, he was relieved to see the young woman was not acting on her instinct to run;; the Wolverine had felt the exact same way when he’d first come to this place. He remained silent, for no words were further needed until the time came to explain everything to Warren, Angel’s uneasiness so very obvious, his glances given their way every so often not going unmissed. The man could hardly be blamed, Logan was accompanied by someone the winged mutant didn’t know, after all. "Would you excuse me for a moment Calvin? I'll be back to sort you out,” ears hearing everything, they only peaked when it was clear the Angel was finally about to approach them. "Logan, is there something I can help you with?" he asked, studying the young woman who stood by Logan for a brief moment. "Who's your friend?" there was a sense of hesitation to Logan’s body language;; a sense of caution, however, trust had nothing to do with it. Was telling Angel exactly who his ‘friend’ was really the right choice to make? Or, should he cover over a few of the facts;; not lie, yet not tell the entire truth of the matter either? “Yeah, yer can help,” the Canadian simply said. “Got a new student ter introduce ter tha school, an…” he paused, gaze moving to lock with X-23’s, “she isn’t just any student either, she’s me,” yeah, that would help... leaving it at that would just confuse Angel even more. “The ones behind Weapon X cloned her to replace me,” and this time, when his eyes met Laura’s, they held a softness that many would not think Logan even possible of. “She's my flesh an blood, guess yer could say she's my daughter…” |

“She's my flesh an blood, guess yer could say she's my daughter…” That word. Daughter. Laura's nostrils enlarged and her eyes riveted to Logan's. It was a word she'd only heard once in her life, addressed to her--by her mother, as she lay dying in the snow by her own claws. Her eyes widened at the recognition. Someone was standing here, saying she wasn't just a weapon. She was a human, with a flesh-and-blood relative, who didn't consider that their only tie. Laura wasn't sure how to handle such input. "Designate: X-23," she said directly to Angel, assuming it was up to her to name herself since Logan hadn't. "I am also known by the alias Laura Kinney," she added, a little uncertainly. Her monotone voice wavered slightly on Laura, rising and falling a few half notes. This was the first time she'd ever declared her human name, without being asked point blank. Perhaps it was brought on by Wolverine's declaration; she suddenly wanted to be human, seem human. Or as human as a mutant could be. Laura's eyes were trained on Angel. Her green-eyed gaze could be unnerving; even when she was feeling awkward herself, it was so direct and unwavering that it made most people feel a little nervous. She considered the mutant for a moment; more personally than her clinical analyzing of his battle abilities. // He is confused by this situation, // she decided, // but he trusts Logan. He does not respond as if Logan threatens him; his actions show...respect? // Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Logan's discomfort as well; but somehow she didn't think he mistrusted the winged mutant; no, she suddenly understood that he, too, shared her fear of sharing personal information. Another wave of connection washed over Laura. Was this what it was like to feel? She was very surprised and disturbed by the sensation. |

Warren looked at Logan with a hint of impatience for a brief moment t as he gave a cryptic answer, the irritation faded as the feral mutant went on to give a more detailed explanation. A flicker of surprise and confusion passed across his features and Warren's blue eyes shifted to the young woman as Logan looked towards her. Logan had a daughter? Well a clone...Warren was sort of glad that nothing could really surprise him very long any more otherwise that would have spun him right out. Admittedly Logan had been...different since he'd started to date Mina, but the notion of him being a father was strange. The girl introduced herself and Warren gave a nod. "I'm Warren, welcome to the Xavier Institute, Laura." He greeted her and introduced himself but didn't hold his hand out for her to shake, thinking from her wary stance she wouldn't take it at all well. He looked back towards Logan, trying to decide what he should do. Well he pretty much knew what he should do but he was a little reluctant to talk about it front of Laura. Considering the same people who had created Logan had created Laura, Warren assumed they had trained her in the same way, and they couldn't have a dangerous mutant lose in the school without having her thoroughly checked out. Yes they had mutants such as the Maximoffs and Alex Summers, former members of the Brotherhood and terrorists, but the twins had spent a long time in the holding cells before they were deemed safe to stay in the school properly. Unfortunately he was going to have to insist Laura did the same until she could be properly evaluated. "You'd better come inside. Another student just arrived and he needs to be sorted out. We'll find you somewhere to stay at the same time, Laura. And you can explain what's going on." Warren said, heading back towards the Mansion, assuming that other two were following. |

Logan had been watching for any sign of reaction from X-23;; not only had he been expecting it, but she’d done it so perfectly well there was no doubt she had his blood flowing through her every vein. "Designate: X-23... I am also known by the alias Laura Kinney," a courage and strength clearly resonated within the young clone, for it would not have been easy even telling him her designation, let alone what he himself had yet to learn - her real name;; the one her mother had so obviously given to her. Warren’s reaction too, came as no surprise. How often would the winged mutant, or anyone else, for that matter, ever hear the word ‘daughter’ associated with the Canadian feral? Eyes remained trained on the man as he introduced himself, the Wolverine was well aware on at least one train of thought Warren’s mind may have been traveling down, and, yes, Laura was dangerous, just as dangerous as he was. It also didn’t help she held within her mind a trigger word, one that would see her lost to her feral side without any hope of stopping her before it was too late. With Angel’s words to his daughter, Logan just nodded at her. “Let’s go kid, time ter show yer what yer’ve been missin,” and with that, he followed after his fellow faculty member, understanding there were a few things about to happen that may not sit too well with X-23. Yet, for the safety of everyone at Xavier’s, they had to be sure she was ready and safe to be around before they allowed her free access to the general population. |
