Mechanical Interaction/Merge
Dimensions

Height: 2' at shoulder (approximate)
Length: 4' from nose to tail (approximate)
Weight: 200 lbs. (approximate)

Features:

Security link-up, maintainence - projects core programming into the X-Factor security system, hunting down viruses and maintaining the system.

Ocular scan - lazers emitted from eyes can scan people and determine threat levels via heartrate, physical capabilities, etc. Eyes will change from blue to purple when this effect is active.

Rocket-propelled movement - In times when Ilsa needs to take action, she can tackle intruders using rocket booster imbedded into her paws.

Ocular beams - lazers can be switched to an offensive frequency to burn intruders. Eyes will change from blue to red when this effect is active.

Tranquilizer injection - Ilsa's teeth conceal small needles that when deployed, can be extracted to inject a tranquilizer into her quarry's bloodstream. Effect approximately takes ten minutes to fully render an invader unconscious. During this time, Ilsa will hold on to the invader with her fangs to prevent the quarry from fighting back or fleeing.

Servomotors - Ilsa's mechanical nature allows her to be much stronger than any flesh-and-blood dog. She could bend steel in her jaws, punch a hole through brick with her paws and easily smash through walls. When not in offensive mode, her strength is toned down to that of a biological German Shepherd to prevent accidental injury.

Distress signal - Whenever Ilsa goes into offensive mode, X-Factor will be alerted via their communicators.

IE Sepcifications: Ilsa's artificial intelligence program perfectly mimics that of a German Shepherd female when in normal mode. She is friendly with the people programmed as friends in her database, enjoys playing catch and being scratched behind the ears.

Like a German Shepherd, Ilsa is fiercely loyal and protective of her people and home. Anyone entering with ill intent will face the full fury of the mechanical canine, and it will not be pretty.

So if you're thinking of invading X-Factor, think twice.

Because we will not be held responsible if our dog kills you.

Time of day: noonish
Place in the time-line April 5th.. about a week after state of the school address.

The blond teenager was silent, still, focused. It was quite a different side of Kel than the one most people saw. His hands moved across the piano keys; he didn't take classes anymore. He'd had enough lessons as a child, although he hadn't played much at the Institute. No one, in all the years he'd attended, discovered him playing. That was fine with him, truthfully. Times like this, he could relax. He really needed to relax. It had been over a week, but his nerves were still raw. The memories he'd shoved away, they seemed imprinted on the back of his eyelids whenever he closed his eyes. Every moment had been replayed.

He was distracted from his playing suddenly, as his cell phone began to belt out a song. He opened it, smiling for a moment. His smile quickly faded. He spoke, barely audible. He went white. He shook his head, refused to believe it. It couldn't be true. He didn't hear the voice on the other line. "No... she... no. Mar..." His big sister, she'd been more of a mother than his step mother had ever been, more of a parent than his father had ever bothered to be. She couldn't, she couldn't be dead. He couldn't accept it. He wouldn't. He'd go home and she'd be there, and she'd laugh at him and hug him and tease him. She couldn't be dead.

"-can't come to the funeral."

Kel blinked. He'd missed most of that sentence, but the tail end hit him like a brick. He tried to speak, but his throat was dry. He swallowed harshly, and forced his voice to work. "What?" he replied, in a near whisper. Even then he couldn't comprehend his father's words. Mar had died in a mutants rights protest of some kind? But she was away, she went abroad for college... why, what had happened? A mumbled, confused conversation ensued. He wasn't to return home. They couldn't find out that he had a mutant child, he had to think of the girls. They were still in school, things could get ugly if word got out.

It didn't take too long for Kel to realize what his father was saying. Mar was dead, and it was his fault. If he wasn't a mutant, a freak, she wouldn't have gone, she wouldn't have died. Hot tears splashed down his face, unheeded. In all the months since he'd been tortured, he hadn't shed a tear for himself. Now he did. The person that cared about him most in the world was dead, and he wasn't allowed to see his younger sisters or even talk to them. It was all his fault, she was dead, because she loved him. He dropped the phone while the man on the other end continued to speak. He didn't notice as the phone it the floor and shattered into broken pieces. He was too busy having a breakdown, himself.

She died because she loved him, because she cared about him. Everyone he really cared for, that cared about him, got hurt. Died, even. His shoulders shook slightly, but the paleness of his face and the tears shining on his skin was all that let on what was going on within him. It was his fault. His sister had died because of him; his mother had died because of him; Mittens had nearly died trying to save him; Eldan and his friends nearly died because of him. He was a curse, or he was cursed, everyone that got close to him was in danger. He had to leave before he hurt anyone else! The blond quickly stood up to act on his thoughts, to get away, but the piano bench tripped him. Pain stunned him, momentarily.

Kelrian lay on the floor, not bothering to get up, crying silently.

Some time later... he wasn't sure how long... he sat up as the tears stopped flowing. Sometimes tears helped, if there was a warm shoulder to cry on... the thing was, there wasn't anyone for him to go to. Yes, he had friends here, but no one he could cry to. He had to show a strong face, he couldn't worry them. He couldn't stand seeing them upset or worried, especially Mittens. He'd already put the catboy through enough as it was.

For the first time since what had happened, he began to seriously think about what had happened the summer before. He picked apart every move he’d made to get himself in such a horrible situation. There really was no way he could’ve known that he was being followed by the kid, but he should’ve expected it. The other things, at any point until they had him he could’ve gone to his advisor or Mr. Summers… now Mr. Grey-Summers, of course. They would’ve helped him, somehow, or at least made him see that he couldn’t do anything on his own. Just because he could heal from just about anything, didn’t mean he couldn’t get hurt. He just hadn’t thought, even though he’d been searching for his mother’s murderers, that someone could possibly be so cruel. Well, obviously he’d learnt his lesson…

Wiping his tear streaked face until it was mostly dry, Kelrian took a few deep breaths to calm himself. The tears were still threatening, but they didn't do any good. If anything, they made him feel cold and empty and tired. He was tempted to lay back down and go to sleep on the cool floor. A more sensible part of him forced him to get his act together. He cleaned up the broken pieces of his phone, and tossed them. His father wouldn’t get to contact him again in that way, and Kel almost hoped that he wouldn’t try. Now that his hysterics were over, his thoughts seemed a little ridiculous, and worrying because he knew that he actually felt that way when it came down to it.

It was something he was going to have to deal with himself. He wasn't the only person in this school with issues, and his weren't the worst by any system of measurement. And everything that had happened to him was his fault anyway.

A forced calm upon him, he ran his hand through his blond hair, messing it up slightly. Almost as if nothing had happened, he sat at the piano and began playing again.

Danny had fallen back into old habits after losing his job. With nothing goading him to wake up early anymore, the young man reverted to his college sleeping schedule: up after noon and in before six (am). Today was actually a pretty early day for him; he'd been up since about 11:30. By the time he'd showered and thrown on some clothes though, it was nearing one in the afternoon, time to get out of the mutie shack.

He was making his way down the hall, buttoning up the rest of his light black oxford when the sound of someone playing the piano caught his attention. They have a piano? he thought, showing the extent of his detachment from the place. A lot of the things Danny simply let go over his head. He didn't care. He was only here to learn about his powers, not pine over some other mutants living in the ghetto or fight for a would-be martyr's dream. Maybe he'd utter a quick thanks before making his exit, maybe not. He just knew that he wasn't stuck here like some of the other saps.

Another volley of musical notes drew him back from the depths of his mind. Right, piano, he thought. Why do I care again? The playing wasn't bad but it was certainly not professional. At least, he didn't think so - not like he was a musical connoisseur. Danny shrugged and attempted to continue on his way but found himself stopping. "Damn myself," he muttered as he began his search for the source of the melody. Stupid curiosity.

It ended a few minutes later at a door that very much resembled all the others on the floor. Heck, don't pussy out now. You're here. Gripping the handle firmly in his left hand, Danny pushed inward and cracked the heavy wooden door open, peering inside. Hmm. Music room. Who woulda thunk it? he asked himself sarcastically. On the far side sat a blond-headed boy, the source of the music. The entire affair was rather anti-climactic. Like he wasn't expecting that. At most it could have been the ghost of Xavier and even then he wouldn't have been impressed. Heaving a muffled sigh, Danny got ready to leave. Satisfied? he asked himself, a bit ticked off that he'd wasted his own time.

In his moment of exasperation, the young man unwittingly leaned too hard upon the door, causing it to swing further inward. The momentum manipulator accumulated it the natural way and was carried, stumbling, into the middle of the room.

Oh, fuck. The mental swear escaped the moment he'd regained his balance.

"Yeah, I'm not a stalker," Danny blurted. He wasn't convinced. Just great.

She’d been on the other side of the mansion when she’d felt his pain via the link that’d merely been made stronger since first realizing it had actually been there in first place. She couldn’t have gotten to him straight away even if she’d wanted to, the greenhouse was set far away from everything, and, well, she was not one of those blessed with powers such as Clarice had;; to be able to be wherever she wanted to be simply by teleporting, what a wonderful thing, even if she could only ‘blink’ to places she’d already seen beforehand.

Kelrian's pain in her heart, yet, not fully understanding exactly what it had to do with his older sister, she continued into the mansion and on towards the music room, the link leading her to him, when she’d have had no idea he was even dealing with something major without it. What she did pick up on however, that one thing that she would be telling him straight very soon, was the fact he most certianly did have someone to go to;; a shoulder to cry on, when the pain became so much there was no other way to let it out.

She felt his sense of forced calm the closer she came to the music room, spotting the form of someone else already there, wondering for a moment if they’d heard Kelrian crying, or if they’d been drawn to the room by the beautiful sound of the piano now filtering down the hallway. Soon, her eyes widened, that wondering forgotten, because she reached the door just in time to see Daniel, - one of the newcomers, she perceived, since she hadn’t met him before - land in the middle of the room, when he’d only just been at the door moments before.

"Yeah, I'm not a stalker," the healer frowned, walking in and looking at Daniel a bit closer. “Oookay…” she said, her tone suggesting she had no idea why he’d think Kel would believe him to be one anyway. The moment she said the Regen’s name, her focus was brought back to why she was there, yet, with someone else now in the room too, Mana felt it wasn’t appropriate to bring up what her link had revealed to her just moments before. “I’m Ramana, by the way,” she said, gaze now back on Daniel, “Blade Girl or Mana, whichever you prefer. That’s Kelrian,” and at that point, she gave the young Regen a very knowing look, before saying *Don’t even think I didn’t feel anything. You need to stop keeping things to yourself,* directly into his mind, sternly, yet with an affection he should, by now, understand well.

“So, care to elaborate on your name too?” she wondered, looking at Stasis expectantly, the genuine smile of interest hiding the fact she really, really wished for a chance to be alone with Kelrian, so she could find out exactly what was going on.

A few notes trailed off into silence, as the blond teenager turned around slightly on the bench to see who it was who had stumbled in. He didn’t recognize the voice, or the face for that matter, and the statement truthfully baffled him. Why in the world would someone be stalking him, or think that he’d think they were stalking him for that matter? It just didn‘t make any sense to him. “…of course not,” the pretty blond began, his voice soft and slightly puzzled, as Mana came in.

The young man’s eyes widened slightly, having forgotten about the link. Of course she’d know… but, wow, she’d wasted no time at all to arrive. At least his sob fest was over.. Suddenly, that reminded him that he’d been crying and hoped that it wasn’t so obvious to the others. His tears were dried, weren’t they? Her mental voice in his mind made him duck his head slightly, why he hadn’t thought of going to her was beyond him. It was just… he was so used to dealing with things on his own. There really was only one person he'd cried to, ever, and now she was gone. His throat tightened slightly, and it was all he could do not to start crying again.

Mana was doing introductions, and he barely noticed at first, which went to show how out of it he was. Usually he was the first person to try to befriend a new person, and it hadn’t even entered his mind to introduce himself. He tried to smile. He just didn't have the energy... wait... he didn't have the energy? That was a new one; Kelrian was always overenergetic, hyper to the point of being a hazard. Being tired was never an issue; he never slept. This was weird...

Rubbing at his light blue eyes, he stood up... careful not to trip over the bench this time. Making a face at Mana, he said to Stasis, "Call me Kel." Now he actually managed a real smile, wondering whether they'd be friends. Since coming here, so many of his friends left, or just drifted away. Or he simply didn't realize that they were there for him...

For a few moments there, Danny felt the dire urge to take his powers and put the room on pause, or, at least. slow-mo. Not that it would have helped any, but he would have felt better. As it was, the young mutant felt totally disoriented by the series of events unfolding around him.

The initial volley came from the blond musician who'd stopped playing on his account to address his stupid remark. He must think I'm a tard or a weirdo or both, Dan thought, despite the boy's reassurance of the contrary. The momentum manipulator was so convinced because those would've been the first two words to pop into his mind if he were in the guy's place. Immediately, Danny began to reach for words to somehow explain why he'd ended up staring over the guy's shoulder from behind a partially closed door. His normally prolific wit came up with nothing, which was just was well because he wouldn't have had a chance to voice it anyway.

The sound of the second voice threw him... again. He'd barely recovered from falling through the door when the woman showed up. Dare he call her an invader? She sure felt like one - this was his moment of stupidity, of vulnerability and he'd hoped to keep the witness count to a bare minimum - but the fact that he was the more likely to be an invader was not lost on Danny. He just stood their, hiding behind the composure that he'd groomed over the years, and attempted to process everything. The mutant ignored the fact that the woman had addressed him in the same tone he reserved for idiots and headcases - understandable given the circumstances - and instead focused in on her body language. He might have been reading too much into it but Danny got the distinct impression that he was missing something. Even as the woman spoke, he noted that she was paying extra attention to the boy. Had he somehow managed to tick of the kid's den mother? Not improbable given his entrance. ...Or maybe it was just a hint of jealousy on his part; he was just so used to being the center of attention, even if it was for all the wrong reasons.

Danny ended up shrugging it off. Hopefully, he'd be able to answer her question, make nice-nice and be on his way again. Hopefully. "Right. I'm Danny," he offered, using his typical, guarded tone. Dan stopped himself there. Standard procedure would've mandated that he utter a subsequent pleasantry or inform the pair that he was pleased to meet them but Danny didn't feel up to a prolonged conversation and had never been one for lies.

Mana didn’t miss the lowering of his head, or the face Kelrian soon made to her, letting her smile turn into a knowing smirk, of sorts. The look she’d given him had achieved the purpose she’d intended for it, so, therefore, hopefully the next time the Regen needed a shoulder to cry on, he’d remember where to go. Her gaze moving between both, the healer wondered if the unfamiliar man was ever actually going to answer her question? Had he even heard it? Well, that was a possibility… one never really knew. As she looked closer, she realized he was actually not much younger than her, interesting… she was so used to new ones being students it was a nice change to see another adult joining their ranks… or, presumably so.

"Right. I'm Danny," like he had taken note of her body language, Mana had taken note of his, picking up on a sense of hesitation, and a guardedness to his tone. She could be wrong on both counts, however, as an empathic healer, she’d become adept to reading the emotions of even those she was not connected to telempathically. She was one of the few that actually chose to truly look and listen to pick up on things that others may have completely missed was there.

Mana smiled. “Nice to meet you Danny, and,” she paused, a glint of cheek to her eyes, “do you always make such an impressive first impression? I mean, the fact you were standing at the door one minute, then just… flying, the next…” well, at least she hadn’t brought up the obvious strangeness of his first words to Kelrian. “Mind if I ask what exactly allows you to do that?” even as she was talking to him, she sent yet another telempathic message to one of the members of her Youth Squad, ::Understand this, later, we talk,:: and there would be no getting out of it either.

Perhaps most of the residents of the Institute would have reacted the way Danny had expected, but Kel obviously wasn't most people. The blond teenager was more than a little unusual in quite few ways, not to mention he was rather oblivious. He hadn't even realized that Daniel hadn't just stumbled into the music room by accident, having gotten lost or something. The whole 'stalker' comment had simply confused the boy. In any case, it was probably a good thing that Mana had come in when she had. The blond wasn't in any state to deal with confused explanations.

As already stated, Kel tended to be rather oblivious. The underlying thoughts and feelings of the other two remained a mystery, although there seemed to be a sort of tension. Although normally he'd at least try to care, he was simply too tired. Emotionally exhausted and bruised, he just wanted to be alone to lick his wounds in peace. Figuratively speaking.

It was still something to get used to, someone speaking to him in his mind. Anyway, hadn’t Mana said that they didn’t have a link? That his regen powers had negated her own healing? Kel shrugged slightly, sighing. Fine, fine, he'd talk to her about it later. Not that he had any other choice, and he wasn't quite sure he wanted to. He wasn't sure he could properly talk about it without becoming a mess... but he wouldn't try to avoid it. That was rather pointless if she was so intent on talking to him; Mana could be rather stubborn.

Unfocused as he seemed, he did have enough attention focused on the others to follow the conversation. Was Mana really teasing someone she'd just met? Oh, well, it seemed to be in a friendly enough way.. His back had been to them when they'd first entered the room, so he didn't really know what they were talking about, but he was slightly curious despite himself.

Did it have to do with the guy's powers? Kel knew that some people were rather touchy about their abilities, and he could see why, but that didn't mean that he wasn't interested in all the different kinds of powers mutants were getting. Truthfully he couldn't see how it was possible, evolution didn't seem to work that way from what he'd learned, but then again he hadn't really paid attention in school.

"I try," Danny remarked, unable to resist being somewhat confrontational. Questions had the nasty habit of making him chafe. Hers hadn't been particularly irritating, which is why he let it slide, but the young man wasn't about to submit himself to an interview. He hated talking about himself, not because of modesty but because he simply didn't think it was anyone's business... unless he began the exchange.

It took him a few moments to process what exactly it was that the woman had asked him. Dan was sure he hadn't actually flown in front of them, the confusion stemming from the fact that he probably could have. The momentum manipulator decided that it indeed was most likely about his power so he went with that. There wasn't much to say about his ability that didn't get heavily involved in technicalities, technicalities that he didn't want to get into just then. The thought did occur where he entertained the possibility of passing it off as telekinesis but Dan wasn't about to insult himself so he decided to fess up as best he could and try to avoid anymore probing responses.

"You must be talking about my power." Danny had deliberately left part of her question unanswered but the tone of his voice indicated that he was at least slightly miffed. Yeah he minded, but not that much. "I can control motion." Cockiness seeped into his address. "It's like controlling how, when, and where something moves. Like that stool there for example."

At that, Danny turned his attention to a stool he'd picked at random and gave it some upward momentum, watching it float into the air before directing it to hang there, stopping its ascent midway.

He grinned, satisfied with himself.

Oh, he was definitely uncomfortable, and that, in turn, made Mana feel uncomfortable, because she wasn’t the type to ever want to make someone feel that way. Of course, too, she noticed the confusion on Kelrian’s face, not entirely sure as to why, however, the young Regen had been that way since finding out about a link that shouldn’t have existed in the first place. Heck, Blade Girl had been just as shocked as he was to realize she’d been feeling his emotions during the first official meeting of the Youth Squad… well, not really a meeting, just a chance to get to know each other, and she still felt very annoyed with those that hadn’t bothered to show up.

"You must be talking about my power," oh dear, irritation was clearly there. "I can control motion," and now, a surety in his tone? Wow, he flicked through the emotions really quick, didn't he. At least she’d asked about something he was obviously comfortable in talking about. "It's like controlling how, when, and where something moves. Like that stool there for example," eyes moved to the chair Danny soon focused his attention on, watching as it first rose then froze in place, soon noting the younger man’s grin and wondering how in the world he’d gone from clearly being apprehensive in even talking to her, to seemingly satisfied and happy to be answering her questions.

Her gaze falling on Kelrian for a few moments, she finally looked back at Danny, that genuine smile back on her face. “As I said, impressive, but now I realize you didn’t fly, you just went with the momentum,” and even as she said it, the frown that appeared on her face was a clear indication she was confused. “Ah, if you feel comfortable in doing so, you’ll have to explain how it works a bit more in detail to me sometime,” her gaze moving between the two again, she added, “Anyways, I better get down to the Danger Room, I have another training session with Gambit soon.”

“I am sure I’ll be seeing you around,” she said directly to Danny, catching and holding his gaze for a few moments before she looked at Kelri as well. “I’ll see you later Kel,” she added, emphasizing the later just to make sure he understood their getting together to talk about what had happened was not something he could get out of. As she reached the door to the music room, an afterthought clicked in her mind, realizing she’d asked for details on Daniel’s powers, yet had revealed none of her own. Turning back, she smiled, looking apologetic in doing so, “Oh, by the way, I’m a regenerative healer…” there was a pause, before she added, no longer afraid to do so, “with blades,” they appeared out of her right hand, with a sound that made most people jump if they weren’t ready for it.

Then, she turned, those same weapons returning up into her arm as she left the room.

Exit Blade Girl, and, nice to meet you Stasis ^_^
