Date: April 1st
Time of day: Afternoon, more towards evening

Rogue opened the door and walked into her room. It felt like it's been a long time since ah've strolled in 'ere. She thought to herself as she sat on her bed. It seemed that she had nothing to do during this time of year. There was also the fact that she has yet met her roommate. They were never in the room the same time, nor really had the chance to talk. What with one always being up before the other and one in bed when the other walks in.

Rogue sighed, she grew bored and sort of lonely. Everyone has someone, even a good friend. But Rogue didn't, she felt like she was shunned no matter where she went to. The looks she gets, it made her feel like she didn't fit it. It bothered her a little with that thought, wishing she fit in a little better just like others. But she felt that her powers were the reason for her lack of friends around here. In her mind, what else was new really.

"Just might as well stay here. Aint got nothin' else ta do." she dropped backwards on the bed. Looking up at the ceiling for a bit before she sat up. Rogue reached under her bed and pulled out one of her books that she usually reads. One of her romantic novels that she reads about a life where everything falls into place. Having a lover, a happy life. Something Rogue feels she will never have...no matter what happens in her life.

[The day after Deja Vu of the Worst Kind]

It had taken Ari nearly the whole day to get herself up and ready to drive to the mansion from X-Factor Headquarters. She'd gotten up late, with a throbbing headache from all of the alcohol she'd drank with Alex. Ari wasn't really a drinker, and a few shots had given her a slight hangover. Drowning your heartbreak in a bottle was consoling while you were doing it, but the next day you definitely paid for it.

Pietro had brought her a few things she needed for the night, but Alex had offered a room, and she planned on hanging at their headquarters for a few more days. Or at the very least until she wasn't so saddened by the thought of having Warren just a few doors down, and not being able to be with him.

Ari had stopped by her room, packing away a few items she needed. She wasn't moving out by any means, but she needed some time away. Tensions were so high at the mansion right now, with all of the new rules being issued. Maybe it wasn't a great time for her to leave, but those thoughts only crossed Ari's mind briefly. Being at the mansion made it too easy to knock on Warren's door and ask him to reconsider their separation. She just didn't trust herself at the moment. Her leaving was a way to save what little pride she had left. He'd asked for space, and she knew that crowding him would only hurt things worse in the long run.

Carrying a nearly stuffed backpack on one shoulder, a purse on the other, she glanced one last time around her room, assuring herself she wasn't leaving anything imperative. With that, she closed the door behind her and headed out into the hallway. Aside from letting Avery and Jean know of her impromptu getaway, she had one last person to inform.

Kate, who Ari now considered to be a younger sister of sorts, would surely notice that she was gone for a few days. At the very least, the brunette would say bye before heading off.

Reaching the preteen's room, which she shared with Rogue, Ari gave a quick knock at the door. Shifting the backpack hanging off her shoulder, she said, "Kate? You in there? It's Ari--"

With the book in hand, Rogue was beginning to get stir crazy. Staying in one place didn't seem like something she wanted to do. Not even able to concentrate on the book. Which was odd for her since the southerner always got involved so easily in this book...but today didn't seem like one of those days.

Maybe it was the way she was sitting, sure, that was it. From having her back against the bed post, Rogue shifted her weight forward. Having the front of her on the bed, elbows holding the top part of her body up, and the book directly several inches away from her.

Lowering her head down, her eyes peered up at the open book. With the nights that progressed, nightmares seemed to have gotten the best of her. That might have been just yet another reason for her lack of interest in things. The southerner's eyes started to blink several times, then she tried to read again. Her eye lids drifted down towards the door in front of her. Seeing the shadows moving back and forth under the door. People were on the move just as they normally were.

Rogue yawned, her eyes becoming slightly glassy as she tried to continue to read. But it just could not be done, the idea of reading a book seemed a little far fetched when the eyes were now completely closed. Head lowering down to leave her chin resting on the mattress underneath her.

Then it happened again, the bad dream. The reoccurring nightmare that would steal her normal dreams away. That kept her from having a good night sleep. Her expression, brows frowning, quiet mutters, and then her book dropped from her hand onto the ground. Rogue was stirring in her bed, that was until there was a knock at the door. At the sound, she shot up from the bed. Eyes darting back and forth, sighing as she lowered her head. "Another dream." she murmured slowly to herself.

Sitting herself up, she brought her gloved hands to her face. Rubbing slightly before she pushed herself away from the bed. Standing up, she shook her head to rid of the lasting effect the dream had on her. Stepping one foot in front of her, she placed her gloved hand on the door. Turning it, she opened it to see someone that she did not expect to see. Then again, Rogue didn't expect to see anyone.

"Hey." the southerner greeted, "Kate ain't in 'ere. Hasn't been for an hour or so." looking back at the clock to make sure she was right and not giving the other brunette wrong information. "At least as long as ah've been in tha room." she shrugged a little turning her attention back to Ari. That was until her eyes trailed to the backpack the other mutant had. She frowned slightly, it wasn't everyday that someone had a stuffed backpack resting on their shoulder. "Ya alright?"

The door in front of her opened, but there was no small redhead there. It was Rogue, a young woman that Ari unfortunately didn't know that well. It wasn't intentional, of course. Ari had always wanted to get to know the Southerner better, but sometimes it was easy to get wrapped up in your own life sometimes.

"Oh, hey Rogue," she said, a friendly smile crossing her lips briefly. She frowned slightly at the news about Kate, "Damn, alright..." Glancing toward the strap on her shoulder at Rogue's mention, she said, "Oh, yeah I'm alright." Ari's brown eyes turned to Rogue, "I'm...heading off for a few days." A small shrug rippled through her shoulders, and she said quietly, "I just need some time away from the mansion."

She leaned against the door jamb casually, her eyes taking in Rogue's appearance. "How about you? You alright with everything lately?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow at the slightly older girl.

So many things around the school were changing. New squads, new rules... it was all pretty disconcerting to say the least. And Ari didn't know what to believe anymore; whether Scott and Jean were doing the right thing by the mansion inhabitants. Mutants everywhere were getting hurt and attacked, for no reason other than their genes. Obviously, the kids at the mansion needed to know how to protect themselves. But there was a sudden undercurrent of anti-humanism going around the mansion that made Ari uncomfortable. She didn't think you could lump everyone together in one category. Just because she was a mutant, that didn't mean she was like those of the disbanded Brotherhood. But that was what society was doing right then... Most people had lumped all mutants together in the 'bad' or 'evil' category. It all gave Ari a massive headache to think about.

From what Ari knew, Rogue seemed to keep to herself a lot. But solitude didn't make dealing with things that much easier. Ari didn't realize it, but she should have been taking her own advice. She was ready to run off to X-Factor HQ to deal with a broken heart, rather than stay and work through it. Sometimes you just didn't see the obvious.

Time away or running from their problems. It was a normal case with people at the school. With people becoming close, if something happens they try to run from it. Thats what Rogue would have thought about Ari if she knew what had happened not to long ago with the teacher that stood in front of her. And the leader of the Paragon Squad. It wasn't like Rogue to keep up on all the gossip and now would be no different.

"Sometimes people just need ta get away." more or less just stating a fact. It didn't relate to anything in general since thats how Rogue was. She tend to let her mind wander with the thoughts that were in there. The other minds that flowed in there before she even came to the school. But she knew from personal experience how it was to get away from everyone. It was what she did at nights when others were in bed. Opening the window and going off to a place that was secluded where no one knew nor bother her.

"Everythin'?" she question before her own thoughts went back on track. From the lack of sleep and having many thoughts in your mind, it was hard to keep your attention on something that was happening at the school. There was also the fact that things happen so quickly, that if you brought it up people look at you funny because it was yesterday's news. Here green eyes trailed to the side, trying to recollect all that happened recently.

"Ya mean what happened in tha cafeteria when ah fell a sleep at tha table? Then woke up with mah hand smackin' tha open bottle ta leave half of tha orange soda on meh?" She frowned her brows at the thought of the other day. Several people that were around and had laughed at her from the experience. It wasn't her fault, she had one of those nightmares again. So instead of bring that up, she blamed it on something from the one girl she absorbed while in the park. That type of jerking she had to deal with because of the side effect she had from the skin to skin contact. That the girl had that problem when she slept. Even though that was gone about three weeks ago. Rogue still reminded people of that so they didn't ask what her nightmares were about.

"Or do ya mean all tha new squads an' tha new rules they have about leavin'?" which it did sort of dawn on here. Wondering about how students and members of this school should not be leaving. Which now Rogue knew that Ari was playing on leaving. Should Rogue mention that to Scott? Or should Rogue take the situation in her own hands and tell her that maybe leaving won't be such a good idea.

Stupid stupid stupid. With each step down the hall (well, waddle...she'd just gotten finished with laundry and was currently hauling it all back to her room in a very large basket), Kate mentally berated herself. She was stupid for having tried to call an old (human) friend (said friend had just hung up on her). Stupid for ever thinking that things weren't changing even though she was. And stupid for putting red stuff in the wash with the right.

Kate turned the corner blindly, hoping that no one was there as she tried to crane her head around the towering laundry pile in her arms. Honestly, she was lucky that she'd gotten that far without breaking anything, and it was a lucky stroke of fate that she saw Ari in front of the door before she ran the older girl over.

"Ari?" The red-head shifted the pile in her arms so that she could see better, glancing from Ari and her backpack to Rogue. "Rogue? What's going on?"

It was the most common question at the Institute, lately. Since the humans had all stepped up their program of harrassing mutants, confusion and chaos seemed to reign supreme. No one knew what was happening, now or in the future, or how one could stop it from occurring.

Hence why Kate was stuck in the student lounge, watching CNN all the time, and even then it was still fuzzy on what exactly was going on.

She shifted the pile again. "Um...hold on..." Quickly Kate slipped past Rogue and into their room, setting the basket down with a dull 'thump' on the floor -- she hoped the floor was clean enough -- before coming back out. "Is everything okay?"

"Sometimes people just need ta get away." [Rogue said,] more or less just stating a fact.

Ari gave a small nod of her head, the corners of her lips curving up in a self-deprecating smile, "Yeah...sometimes they do." That was probably true on a lot of levels, for a lot of different people. Ari had the vague idea that Rogue knew a thing or two about that. Ari didn't want to go into her reasons for leaving, attempting to keep the private parts of her life private. Of course, in a school full of students who were in the know about each other's lives and the lives of the staff, it would only be a matter of time before word spread. But at least she'd be gone by then, able to avoid the pitying looks and the 'I told you so's. The brunette certainly wasn't about to make a big deal of things in front of one of Warren's squad members. That would've been extremely immature and unprofessional, and just not Ari's style. She may have been taking it hard, but she hadn't lost her mind.

The young woman was thankful when the topic of conversation changed, but she was unable to keep from staring at Rogue as though she'd sprouted cat ears. For a second, Ari was unsure if the other young woman was joking or not, "Err..."

Rogue continued, mentioning the reason Ari had been thinking of, and she quickly gave a nod, her forefinger and thumb snapping, though her tone was mildly serious, "That one--you know, all the new squads and all the new curfew rules for students." Ari, being a senior member of the team and already graduated from the school, felt that she was exempt from the curfew rule. Whether that was actually true or not remained to be seen.

"You adapting to all that alright? I know a lot of the younger kids are sort of up in arms over it," she said, a small shrug rippling through her shoulders. She noted that Rogue looked sort of worn down, as though she'd recently pulled an all-nighter. Ari didn't come straight out and say it, but she was curious if the Southern belle was doing okay. Even now, when her thoughts were consumed with her own personal life, she did care about her fellow peer's well-being.

Kate arrived then, a massive load of laundry in her arms, and Ari smiled at her briefly, "Kate--hey, I was just coming to see you." Licking her lips, she moved towards the side, giving the slim redhead room to pass.

"Is everything okay?" [Kate asked.]

"I'm, um..going away for a few days. To X-Factor Headquarters," said Ari, with a small nod and a small, strained smile. Inwardly she'd fought wanting to yell a huge 'No' in response to Kate's question. But Kate was only twelve and there was already so much to worry about in the outside world; there was no way she was going to unload her personal drama on her too. When Ari was twelve, the word relationship hadn't even existed.

Shifting against the door jamb, Ari looked carefully at Kate. "I haven't really talked to you in a while, Kate. Me and Rogue were just talking about everything going on with the school. Are you doing okay with all the changes?" Ari knew that a lot of the older members of the school had safety things to worry about, and basically had their plates full. But that didn't mean that the younger students should keep their worries to themselves if a faculty member was unavailable. By now, Ari felt very close to Kate, and she knew that the preteen was far from her family. If she could lend an ear, even for a few minutes, then Ari certainly would.

"Ah suppose. Don't really know, nor haven payed too much close attention towards everyone else about how they feel in regards of it." the southerner shrugged her right shoulder unconsciously from how often she did that. Rogue blinked her bright green eyes once, this time only having them half opened compared to the beginning of this conversation. There are bags under her eyes, showing just how much of sleep she was lacking. But with so much going on in the school, everyone having their own problems. People don't seem to pay attention to the little things.

Even brining her gloved hand up to cover her mouth from the yawn. Rogue noticed her roommate towards the room with her clothes. The southerner raised her eyebrow. What was she doing here? It seemed to Rogue that if someone was trying to have a conversation, then Kate showed up. Rather annoying if you would have asked the brunette with the white streak in the front of her hair. Maybe Rogue finally realized that her roommate was a pain and wanted to know gossip. Why else would she never see her roommate unless other people were around having a personal conversation.

Rogue moved to the side some for the smaller mutant to get pass to put her stuff away. Looking back her eyes rolled where she figured no one would have seen that. But she wasn't hiding it either. Then when Kate seemed to have come back and get in the middle of the conversation like usual.....for a split second Rogue wondered if it was the lack of sleep that was making her think this way. She had never thought about her roommate being like that. As quick she thought about it....some how it didn't last long in her mind, it would only make one wonder....

So, listening to the two, Rogue began to pinch the bridge of her nose. Something -most likely from hearing what Ari said again- made Rogue blurt out. "Does Cyclops, Jean, or any of tha others know ya leavin' for a few days?" she paused for a moment as she looked straight at Ari and not Kate. "Don't ya think maybe everyone should stay 'ere? What wit' everythin' thats been happenin' on tha news?" Her eyebrow raised again as she leaned against the door frame.

As Kate passed Rogue, she caught just the barest glimpse of the eye-roll -- and, more obvious than that, the annoyance in Rogue's mind that was directed straight at Kate. It only lasted for a few moments, but it was enough to make the younge girl wilt. She didn't think she'd done anything bad, not really.

"Oh...um...sorry. I don't mean to interrupt." She offered Rogue a hesitant smile, trying to mend bridges, but it seemed that it wouldn't be welcome and Kate let it fade.

"You're leaving?" This came as a surprise to Kate, and she turned to Ari worriedly. She was worried for Ari, true, but the younger girl also had to admit that the thought of her 'big sister' leaving was more than a little worrying for herself. Who would look out for her; who would Kate tell secrets to?

Guiltily, Kate realized that she was being selfish. If Ari needed to get away, then she needed to. There was no getting around that. So instead of saying the first thing on her mind ("Don't leave! I'll miss you!") the girl made herself nod and hug Ari.

"We'll miss you." Kate whispered, drawing back after a moment -- if she hugged anymore there would be no letting go. "All of us." She said this firmly. While Kate may have been only 12, she wasn't stupid, and she'd heard of Ari and Warren's break-up. She knew, though, that no one could not miss Ari, not even Warren.

The moron.

Shrugging her skinny shoulders at Ari's question, Kate leaned against the wall. How did she feel? Kate wasn't even sure. On the one hand, she was grateful for all the new regulations and rules, because they would keep them all safe. On the other hand...well, what was the other hand?

In any case, Kate didn't vocalize any of it. Not in front of Rogue, anyway. There was something just weird about her, and Kate didn't want to open herself up. "I'm okay." She shrugged, listening to Rogue's point about telling others. Surely Ari would have told Scott and Jean, but she kept that to herself.

Ari noted Rogue's reaction to Kate's appearance, and it made her quirk an eyebrow. Over the past few months that Kate had been at the school Ari had felt herself growing closer to the girl, their relationship turning from friendly to sisterly. Instinctively she felt protective of the younger girl. Rogue was a lot older and Ari didn't know her well. She'd have to make sure with Kate that Rogue wasn't being a bully to her when they were alone.

"You're leaving?" This came as a surprise to Kate, and she turned to Ari worriedly.

Ari gave a nod, a small smile lifting the corners of her lips, "Yeah, but only for a little bit. Just a few days or so." She knew she'd miss Kate, but she needed the time away. How could you get over someone if you saw them all the time? Ari was still a young woman, and though most older people might have seen that her choice in dating Warren wasn't the wisest, she'd done it anyway. In that instance, despite knowing about his track record, she'd ignored her head, their positions, all of the naysayers and allowed her feelings to lead her. It was biting her in the ass now, that much was for sure. But such is life. With enough time, she'd be able to move on and look back on their relationship with fondness. Or so she hoped.

The brunette felt Kate's slim arms wrap around her, and she welcomed the embrace, squeezing the redhead firmly. "I'll miss you too, Kate. But I'm only a phone call away. You need anything and I'll get my butt back here so fast you'll think Pietro is carrying me," she said, leaning back and winking at the younger girl.

At Rogue's blurted question, Ari cocked her head to the side slightly, her own right eyebrow rising as she met the Southerner's gaze, her expression sobering immediately. She was younger than Rogue by several years, but her position on the X-Men was higher, and honestly she didn't feel like she needed to explain herself. Inwardly, being questioned aggravated her. She was an adult and she should be allowed to make her own choices. Placing a lightly bronzed hand on her hip, Ari waited a long moment before giving a small nod, her dark eyes not leaving Rogue's face, "Yeah. I told them. I know protocol." There was no trace of attitude in her voice, but it was lacking her normal warmth.

Rogue

Rogue was seriously acting different towards the people she knew or were just around for that fact. Never the less, to the people that didn't know her well might wonder about her attitude that was a little more blunt then usual. The problem was, Rogue didn't see her change in attitude. Hence where the problem was.

Granted Rogue was older, kept her distance from everyone around. It didn't make her a bad person. It just made her more close off from everyone. It was just the combination from the lack of sleep and the problems that seemed to have been going on, it made Rogue a little bit different them usual. The thing was, would people think this was how she was towards people. Or was there something wrong? Unless they thought she was bitter, thanks to her power.

"Ya told 'em but did they actually say it was okay for ya ta leave?" Rogue didn't know why Ari was leaving, just figuring that she needed to go somewhere. "The gal most likely is needin' some new pink clothes from tha latest trends. Or she got all huffy from a boy that doesn't like her at all. Her eyes half rolled, making it seem like she was looking down hall. Normally, Rogue was kind hearted and thought of people before her own thoughts. Never thinking that bad of him. Then again, there were people around here that have seemed a little different. It was just to wonder, would they think the same way towards Rogue?

In her dream, the words spoke as though the school is on lock down. That all must remain within the walls of this school. That there were problems outside of it. It was why there was an elite group for a reason. This was of reaction, not really of thinking in any of the sort. "Don't ya think it's best ta think of tha people 'ere rather then run off. It's better ta be 'ere then out there. No matter what tha reason is for it out there. Ya won't find nothin' out there...." that you'll like." her words had no expression in there. Her focus was directly on Ari, not once looking away from her either. Her words of warning would make anyone wonder if they thought more into it.
