He stared at her with shocked eyes. There was no way. The Professor gone? Just up and left? He knew that it probably wasn't that simple. Some alien race had probably abducted him because he was the only one capable of saving their planet or something. He knew that there was more to it than what was on the surface. He could have left a memo, though. Something, anything. He was the most powerful telepath on the planet. Is. He is the most powerful telepath on the planet. Not was. He could have left something. A post-hypnotic suggestion, a mental sticky note, something. Instead, he was just gone. He sat up straight in his chair. He had only planned on visiting. He had a job already. He only had ten days left in his vacation. And besides, what could he possibly have to offer? He had no college-level education, no special skills except the ability to build a house. What could he do? Keep the kids safe. A mental image of that girl being pulled out of the ambulance flashed through his head, and with it came anger. Lots of it. He wanted to find the people who had done that to her and return the favor. Tenfold. He wanted to hurt them, to break their bones, to smash their skulls. He closed his eyes and started counting. One, two, three... ...fifty-seven. Okay, he was calm again. No matter what, he couldn't just go back to his life. He couldn't turn a blind eye on this again. "I have ten days left in my vacation. I'll help as much as I can." |

((I am soooo sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this. Maybe we should try to wrap this up as soon as possible so you can get moving in the game, yeah?)) News like this was never easy to hear, and Mina wasn't going to rush Jacob as he processed everything. She wished briefly that she knew him better so she would better know how to comfort him and help him cope with this, but the fact of the matter was that she didn't. She'd known him back at his days at the school but not incredibly well, though she had a suspicion that Jonathan might have been a little closer to him than she. He'd been like that, the type to make friends with everyone, and then it hit her that Jacob didn't know about her husband, either. The shock of that realization was only on her features for a moment before she regained her composure. That could be left for another time, she decided, and she smiled when he agreed to stay, at least for a while. "I'm glad to hear it," she replied warmly, rising from her chair. "Why don't we set you up in one of the spare rooms for the time being so you can get settled in? Then perhaps you can speak to Scott about what your place will be on the team, no matter how temporary your stay." |

((I understand. You don't want to post with me :D. I'll cope somehow. I'm joking, btw. RL is always more important than game.)) "That would be fine," he replied, his voice a little softer than usual. He sat in the chair a little while longer, thinking. He wondered what Scott would have him doing. Probably standing in a corner and not moving. It would be the safest thing for him to do. That and he and Scott hadn't gotten along very well in the past. He had kept screwing up Scott's training exercises with his reckless behavior, and Scott had been a kind of stoic prick with a stick up his ass. Now he had a stick to lean on, too. That thought brought the rest of the newly made holes in his worldview to the front of his mind. An Institute with no Xavier. His mother and granpa dead. His friends not wanting to be near him. Innocent girls getting beaten because they were different. Sentinels and Friends of Humanity and the Dream... All the pieces were falling away, and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. Except stand against the forces that would destroy his world. Therein lay the problem. There were so many of them, and there was only him, and mutation or not, activated X-factor or not, he was still only human. But he was a damn stubborn one. He smiled a hopefully-not-pained smile at Mina, thanked her for everything, and then stood up to go. ((Since the whole time-shift thing is happening, we can end this here, and I'll just talk to Cyclops over IM as to what happens with Jacob in the interim.)) |
