Where: Just outside the Danger Room When: 2 days before the attacks ------------------ It had turned out to be a relatively peaceful, if not uneventful day. Chris had gone to her classes, and tried her very best not to fall asleep. It was getting harder and harder to fight the urge to drift off, she was still unable to get any sleep at night and no matter how much caffeine she tried to pump in to her body. After managing her classes she'd returned to her room to do a little work. She'd been sing another RedBull when the oddest idea suddenly hit her: she'd been at the institute for nearly a month now and she'd never taken the time to explore the mansion. The task of familiarizing her with the grounds had been over looked at her arrival, but still she'd managed to find her way around to all the importantly places, her dorm, her classes, the kitchen; but still there was one place she'd neglected to explore, the infamous Danger Room. While the room's given name did little to subdue her raging curiosity Chris did find that she held a certain hesitation within herself. She knew very little of the place, in fact all she knew was what was already common knowledge to the student body. The Danger Room was a training facility for the students as well as the Faculty, of X-Men as they'd come to be known. The space was developed with the specific aim of teaching the young mutants to use their abilities, honing their powers for defense as well as offense. While Chris was curious about such a place she held little interest in using the facilities. She knew rather well the capacity of her abilities, when used in an irresponsible manor they were extreme, and as she'd learned at a young age could even prove deadly. She preferred not to tap into the half of herself and refused passionately to use her abilities in any way, shape, or form that might cause harm to another living creature. This passivism had survived her well in her own life experiences but she knew from hearing the stories of others not all mutants had such a luxury, more than likely neither would she for much longer. And thought it unnerved her to think about it, she knew well enough that the day might come that she would have to protect herself, the ration side of her would much rather she'd be prepared. As Chris closed in on the Danger Room's location she realized this would be a true test of her will, was her curiosity stronger then her distaste for violence? |

Synch was exhausted from his hours of training. The usual danger room scenarios were all well and good but with every new power he became exposed to the more intensive training he required. The temporary use of mutant powers gave him more finite control for the duration of his ownership but when he fused those powers with his very own aura and biology he needed to learn the finer points of those powers. In this e case it was all about learning the subtle graces of sonic speed and a god like strength. After their talk where Vincent his roommate and the mutant where he acquired the incredible strength Synch could finally appreciate the dangers he spoke of. Synch could actually control when the time when the power was activated but still the awesome power his roommate held was extraordinary. Today’s events were all about testing his control and actual limitations of these manifested powers. Synch had set up a race track of several miles and a speedometer would slowly increase every few 5 minutes so Synch could learn to maintain a steady speed for a limited amount of time and just not tare around at full speed. Also he had spent over half hour trying to learn to stop at higher speeds; this was one of his biggest issues. Coming to a dead stop from several hundred miles an hour was very hard to achieve. The awesome strength had all been about testing raw physical power and testing the physical ramifications upon his own body when the power was disengaged. This had revealed a useful fact; exploiting Titan’s raw physical power did leave him exhausted and in physical discomfort...needless to say Everett was knackered. The doors to the danger room opened and a sweaty exhausted Everett stepped out only to be confronted by a curious new arrival, an attractive one at that. Synch turned on the charming smile and offered a sweaty palm in greeting. “Hey there...?” Synch asked in question waiting for a formal name of introduction. After a moment he realised his sweat soaked pal and wiped it on the white towel draped around his neck. A form hugging sports t-shirt that barely covered his athletic torso and grey sweat pants was all he seemed to be wearing and both were damp form his excessive workout. |

Chris paced back and fort before the Danger Room doors for a good ten minuets. One one had she was pretty sure that she wasn't supposed to be in the danger room, not with out some sort of supervision, but on the other hand she just wanted to take a peek, nothing else... really! Gah, she hated this! Ever since she'd been little there'd always been this overwhelming sense of right and wrong, and at the moment she had a feeling that it was about to win. She looked over her shoulder at the large metallic doors, waiting...waiting for something to happen something that would make this decision for her. At that moment, as if answering her little plea the danger room doors pulled open. Chris turned just in time to see...wow. Chris tried not too stare but it was harder than she thought. The young man that stepped out of the danger room was roughly her own age maybe a little older, but he was definitely gorgeous. “Hey there...?” he said offering her a hand to shake. Chris tried her best to control the silly grin on her face, but it wasn't going too good. “Hi.” she said before she realized how stupid she sounded, get it together girl! “Sorry...the name's Charisma, Charisma McFadden. ” she said as her words and thoughts caught back up with one another. Trying her best to concentrate on one part of his body in particular...His hand {sicko} she reached out for the hand shake. When she took his hand she felt a sudden jolt run through her, and suddenly she noticed his aura. “Wow...” she said forgetting to let go of his hand. The vibrant pulsing light the surrounded him was so many colors Chris couldn't count them. She'd never seen anything like that before, they weren't uniformed in layers but like clumps of color floating about him. She had no idea what the meant. “Weird” she said in a soft laugh as she swiped her hand about three inches over his head. The aura and a large blob of violet aura just shifted out of the way like a liquid. |

Well this first contact was by far the strangest he’d experienced since coming to the school of weird. His charming smile turned to a wide grin at her ‘WOW’ and her ‘Weird’ was replied with a curious eyebrow rising. “Well I can honestly say that I have never gone from wow to weird so quickly before. Normally I would have to show a girl my skate board collection before that happened.” His grin was evidence that he was joking but it wasn’t far from the truth. Girls just have no appreciation for fine boards or fine art. Synch even flinched when she began waving her hand over his head like some kind of mystic mad woman. “Excuse me bur do you mind not doing that it’s kind of annoying not that I’m not enjoying the view.” Synch was grinning again now being so close to this attractive young woman. Her smell was intoxicating and pulled him in all the right ways. “The name is Thomas. Everett Thomas.” he said taking a small step back so that he was no longer invading her personal space. As nice as it was to be up close and personal with Charisma McFaddan he wasn’t that much of a creep. “Charisma? Like that brunette chick off Buffy right?” Synch took his hand back reluctantly. “What were you doing loitering outside the danger room? It’s not the most interesting place in the world after all.” Synch ran the edge of his towel across his brow to clean the clinging sweat away and cool himself down some. “Well I’m in desperate need for a cool bottle of water and perhaps some attractive company would be appreciated.” Now he was pushing the boundaries of flirting to the side of creepy again. Give all that had happened over the past few weeks with the dreams and the mutant town experience Synch had tried to live as free of consequence as possible and even that was difficult. |

Chris had her moments, it wasn't like she was ditsy, easily amused maybe, but not ditsy. Probably not the best first impression. Chris had been gently waving her hand in an out of his aura for a moment before she caught the look on his face. He was confused, perhaps a little weirded out but definitely curious. With an embarrassed little smile Chris pulled her hand back to her side “Sorry bout that, it's just...well kinda silly but you have this amazing aura. I've never seen anything like it.” she said still looking at the swirls of color moving around him. “The name is Thomas. Everett Thomas.” Chris' smile widened as he introduced him self. She was glad he wasn't too freaked out she knew all too well that she could be a little too much for some people, even fellow mutants. “I's nice to meet you Everett.” she said. He really had a nice smile. When they finally let go of each others hand they both took a little step back not that she'd mined being that close to him in fact she'd never really been one for personal space but she had feeling her first impression might have come off a little too strong in that department. When he asked about her name Chris blushed a little. “Yeah...my parents are sci-fi loving hippies, but everyone just calls me Chris.” she explained with shrug. She'd always liked her name it was...unique, and she was definitely a unique person. “What were you doing loitering outside the danger room? It’s not the most interesting place in the world after all.” Chris wasn't so sure. “I don't know, from what I hear this place is pretty impressive, curiosity got the best of me I guess.” she replied with a shrug she was still curious but for now she'd put that aside. “Well I’m in desperate need for a cool bottle of water and perhaps some attractive company would be appreciated.” Chris wasn't one to refuse a compliment. Pretending to consider the offer she smiled after all she was curious about his aura, and she didn't have anything better to do... “Well, I guess I could use some water my self.” |

“My aura huh?” He asked with a raised eyebrow. Synch had seen his aura glow and change as he mimicked different powers from other mutants but he was unaware that other people could see it when he wasn’t actively using his powers. It was something of a useless power to have but then the thought occurred to him that if his aura changed with the different powers he absorbed then he she might be able to identify different mutants by that very same aura. “So this aura thing one of your special gifts?” Synch made bunny ears as he said special gifts before rolling his eyes. Many faculty and students used that term a lot to describe their unique powers but the ability to copy other mutant powers was rather weak in itself since he was kind of useless on his own. Plus his powers required more effort since mutants only had to learn to use their powers once where he had to learn how to use each and every power he acquired even for a short time. Synch smiled as he turned and proceeded down the corridor that lead to the lift which granted access to the upper floors that stood as the main institute building. Synch walked in silence for a moment glancing at the pretty company until they were in the closed confines of the lift. “So...Chris. Have you been here long?” It was a clichéd question but one that alway broke the ice well between strangers. Being strangers Synch began with the typical pleasantries but there was something about this young woman that drew his attentions. This copy cat mutant didn’t know what it was about this girl but he was quiet taken with her. To him each girl had her own personal feminine whiles, Charms that were hers and hers alone. With Jennifer it had been her boldness and directness at the bonfire that caught his attention but Chris seemed different. |

“My aura huh?” Chris grinned, she was slowly getting used to explaining her power to people, it was still kind of new but she was getting better at it. “ Yeah, your aura, your life force, the energy that every person radiates, everything that is living actually though mutants have a much stronger aura.” Chris glanced over at Everett to see if he was still with her, some people just couldn't grasp the concept of something that they themselves couldn't see, even mutants. “So this aura thing one of your special gifts?”he asked making air quotes, that got a laugh out of Chris. She'd never really thought of it as a gift, just something she'd been born with like blue eyes and red hair, freckles or dimples. “ Well part of it I guess I can see the aura of every living thing, and if I wan to I can absorb it and release it, I don' though...I don't believe in violence.” it seemed like such a simple thing to her, but she knew to everyone else, all the mutants she'd met all the people now at the Institute the idea of not defending your self seemed...ridicules. They just didn't understand, they didn't see the world the way she did. As Everette led the way through the corridors toward the lift. She couldn't help but notice him looking at her. She didn't mind it, not at all really, but she was curious about it. “So...Chris. Have you been here long?” Chris shook her head no, “Only about a month really, I'm still trying to figure things out. Like I got assigned to this...squad thing, I'm still not sure what that's about.” she admitted with a shrug and a smile. "What about you? What's your 'Special ability'?" she asked mimicking his bunny ears and grin. |

“My special gift isn’t so special. It’s just lazy. See I can copy and employ other mutant powers of various mutants around me. For example if I so chose to me could duplicate your exact abilities and then manifest them in the same way you do.” Chris would see that Synch didn’t have much in the way of enthusiasm or confidence in his own powers. Synch always felt like a thief when he took peoples powers or that he violated them in some way. It was a silly thought but that was the way he felt none the less. “So you see life energies and don’t believe in violence huh?” Synch had only been at the institute a few weeks before he’d left again but upon his eventual second coming he’d seen a truly harsh world that he’d never noticed before. Chris’s views on violence may very well change when she sees how dangerous the world was for a mutant. “You not gonna start chanting and burning the smelly incense are you. I don’t do the hippy thing.” He said with a grin and raising his arms before him to fend off any kind of preaching. The lift gave a soft hiss as the doors opened into the lobby/foyer area of the mansion. “So to say that you see the world in a rather unique and special way would be accurate right? Kind of like me then I guess. My mum always said I saw the world through different eyes. Apparently I am always looking for trouble. Go figure.” Synch shrugged at his own words and stepped from the lift and turned left towards the kitchen. “What exactly don’t you get about the squad thing?” All of his responses and questions weren’t in any exact order of preference just randomly approached as the replies entered his exhausted brain. “The squads are for team exercises and training in use and application of your own powers, I’m sure one of the teachers would have explained this too toy at the weekly training sessions. “ |

Chris understood that some people were very...sensitive about their mutation. Kate for instance was embarrassed that her emotions were so transparent to those around her, Chris found it refreshing, Kate was probably the most honest person she knew. She had a way of seeing the silver lining so when Everette doubted the uniqueness of his own ability she wasn't so sure. “See I can copy and employ other mutant powers of various mutants around me. For example if I so chose to, I could duplicate your exact abilities and then manifest them in the same way you do.” Chris noticed his tone, it seemed as if he wasn't too crazy about the whole thing but Chris instantly found it interesting. “Wow, I mean that's amazing. It has to be exciting to explore all these new powers. I bet it takes a lot of self discipline, you know some power can be really extreme.” she said with a shrug. She could only imagine having such an ability. There was so much you could learn about someone through their mutation. Sure it was something that was determined by genes even before birth but the development of an ability had a huge effect on personality. When he asked further abut her pacifism she gave a little shrug, “Yeah, it's hard not to be. I can see life in it's purest form, it's...it's beautiful, plant or animal, human or mutant doesn't matter it's all so amazingly bright. When I was little I found this bird, it had broken it's wing and was dying...it was so sad to just watch it's aura just fade away.” Chris could remember the incident still fresh in her mind's eye, she'd run home crying all the way. “Your not gonna start chanting and burning the smelly incense are you. I don’t do the hippy thing.” the joke's intended effect managed to make her smile. “No,” she laughed “I left all that stuff back home, besides I think my room mates would think I was insane.” She couldn't help but smile a little when he said they both saw the world differently it was true, she wasn't sure anyone could quite see things the way she did...though if any one could he would. “The squads are for team exercises and training in use and application of your own powers, I’m sure one of the teachers would have explained this too toy at the weekly training sessions.” Chris nodded as they reached the Kitchen. She tried to remember if she'd met everyone in her squad. First there where the students, then the upperclassmen and of course Wolverine the squad leader. She'd met a few of the student's, Jubilee and Static, she wasn't sure about the juniors, and as if she, or anyone could miss Wolverine, he wasn't exactly the type to go unnoticed. Out of those she'd met she wasn't sure how well they'd all get along. |

The kitchen was empty for a change so Synch moved over to the fridge and pulled out two bottles of water and handed one to Chris. Synch instantly popped the lid and began chugging down the ice cool water by the mouthful. It was so cool and refreshing Synch nearly drowned drinking too fast. He took a deep gasp as he came up for air and wiped his mouth upon his gym towel. “Sorry about that... was really thirsty.” Synch said with a sheepish grin. “My special gifts.” Synch made more bunny ears. “Aren’t that great since without other mutants around I can’t exactly explore anything. I need to be within a certain range to synchronise with another mutant’s power.” Synch said before taking a calmer sip of his drink. “There is this whole complicated explanation that I can’t even begin to understand so just remember...Me harmless.” “Well insanity is highly over rated but I have to ask. What happened to the bird with the broken wing?” Everett really wasn’t one for a sob story but this little tale was something similar to what had happened to him. With all of the various broken bones and injuries, medical professionals said that he should quit competing and stop doing what he loved. Synch pulled out a chair and offered it to Chris while he took one next to her at the centre isle of the kitchen. Just hanging out with someone and chatting was something Synch had never had much time for so this was a welcomed change and something he was thoroughly enjoying. |

Chris watched with an unbelieving grin as Everette chugged nearly half a bottle of water as she sip of her own. She wondered what on earth he could have been doing in the danger room to make him so thirsty, what, or more interestingly, who's powers had he been using? In a show of perfect timing He began to explain his powers a little more. It made perfect sense to Chris that he would only be able to use a power when in range of it's owner, she was already trying to figure the mechanics of it more then likely his own aura was tapping in to that of the mutants around him...it was pretty cool. She wondered what it would look like.“There is this whole complicated explanation that I can’t even begin to understand so just remember...Me harmless.” Chris nearly choked on a mouth full of water. Harmless? Not with a smile like that.she thought hoping that he hadn't been a round a telepath recently. Still she couldn't keep a little blush from slipping onto her face. “What happened to the bird with the broken wing?”Chris shrugged finding interesting that he was curious. “I stayed with it, probably for an hour or two after it died. I was just watching it for the longest time thinking that maybe it would wake up, but nothing happened so I tried to bring it back to life. I was too young to understand things just don't work that way. Once the lights gone it's gone for good.” she said simply, it was a fact that she'd come to understand at a very young age, but one that still struck home to this day. Nodding her thanks as he pulled her out a seat Chris suddenly got a rather brilliant idea. A nearly wicked grin slipped on to her face,”Wanna see what your aura looks like?” |

Her offer to show him his own aura was something of a thing to say but she had peeked his interest. Synch really didn’t know the exact mechanics behind his abilities but he knew it was something to do with his aura synchronising with another and manifesting their super human abilities. ~Did my aura change when I used other mutant’s powers? Was it permanently altered now that I took Pietro’s and Vincent’s powers? ~ Synch thought for the first time. The thought had never occurred to him that his aura may have changed when using it to exploit other mutants and their abilities. “Yeah sounds like fun. So what do I do?” Asked Everett as he placed his half finished bottle of water on the counter. He could have just synchronised with Chris and used her own power to see his own aura but he was curious to see if she had some gift that would expose his aura for all to see. He’d seen the glow over various body parts and his body as a whole when light inter dispersed through his active aura but not since he’d taken on mutants powers during Quicksilver’s attack. He sat still waiting patiently for Chris to do something so while he waited he admired the view and was it something to behold. Without realising he was smiling slightly and even noticed her blush that gave her cheeks a lovely red glow. This girl was especially attractive when she laid her eyes upon his. Something about her just hit him like a train and left him reeling. |

Her offer had been purely innocent. She was curious, he seemed to be curious as well, she just figured it could be a learning experience for the both of them, besides they seemed to be hitting it off and she didn't feel like going back to her room. She watched him looking for a sign, did he think the offer to be...creepy, too forward, uninteresting? She could see the cogs moving in his mind, suddenly she felt rather nervous. It was silly, noting special but she couldn't help but feel a little exposed for a moment. “Yeah sounds like fun. So what do I do?” a mixture of relief and joy rushed overhear before she realized she had no clue what they were about to do. “Um...well,” she almost stammered trying to think it through. “I guess you just do...your thing, however it works, and you'll be able to see what I see.” she said with a shrug it seemed far too simple. She had to wonder if he would manifest her power in a different way, there was a possibility that he could do something with it that she'd never been able to... “A little warning though,” she added almost as an after thought,”don't touch anything. With your aura I mean, I don't know how or if it'll work for you, but I can absorb auras, if your not careful...well you get the idea.” Chris hadn't always been able to absorb, while part of her power had been with her all of her life the ability to absorb had come at puberty. She'd naturally been terrified, the idea of being able to take the life from a creature or thing was something she'd never even considered. She' naturally taken great care to never use the ability in fact she'd only done it once before and that had been an accident. Chris had promised her self that she'd never let that happen again. ”So,” she said grinning with excitement, “How does this work?” |

Suddenly Chris seemed less that confident in how to do this little experiment which unsettled Synch to say the least. He had been under the impression she would do something with her own powers to expose his aura to the world but now she was laying on his own back to pull off this little minor miracle. Synch had actually thought of doing it just so he could see what she was in awe about but it was refreshing for someone to offer up the opportunity to synch with their aura rather than just do it without asking. Some people said it was a strange reason but Everett always felt uncomfortable in using other people’s powers when the situation didn’t call for it. If his life was in danger then he would most certainly do anything in his power to safe guard himself and others but to do it just for the experience or just for kicks felt like he was violating them or something. “You want me to use my power so I can have your power; then use your power to see my aura the way you see it. That about right?” Synch asked with a raised eyebrow and a smile. “I can do that. I can most definitely do that and thank you for offering to do that. It’s nice to not have to ask or just take other mutants powers.” Synch closed his eyes and concentrated upon the feels that he felt when absorbing another’s aura. The sensation of the world seemed to heighten just beyond his ability to feel it then the world became a quietened hush as a quiet calm fell upon him. With his eyes closed he could not see the feint glow of light as his aura fractured the illumination around him. When accomplishing this quickly the quick succession of experiences could be quite heady but when he took the time and effort to control his power at this kind of level Everett could feel how his aura changed and adapted with the new life force that he’d gained. Synch opened his eyes and the world had changed in a fraction of a moment that he’d used to take her powers. Everything held a brilliant glow or aura like it was all alive. When his gaze fell upon Chris he stifled a gasp at the beautify patterns that surrounded her. He looked at himself and saw the insanity of colour that also surrounded his own body. “My aura kind of mimics yours and then I come how copy your powers too. Simplest way to put it.” His explanation was as complete as say Doctor McCoy or Jean but it served him well enough. In retrospect their powers were somehow similar. |

Chris could see that Everett was suddenly unsure of his own abilities. “You want me to use my power so I can have your power; then use your power to see my aura the way you see it. That about right?”Chris took a moment to absorb the information and then nodded her agreement enthusiastically. “Yeah I think that's it.” She was really starting to get excited about all this. She'd never really been able to talk to anyone about her powers, her experiences before, no one else that she knew saw things the way she did. “I can do that. I can most definitely do that and thank you for offering to do that. It’s nice to not have to ask or just take other mutants powers.” she gave an awkward smile, not exactly sure what he meant, but glad to make him feel more at ease all the same. Watching him as he closed his eyes Chris fought a chuckle, he looked so relaxed. She wasn't sure if her eyes needed to be closed as well so she just sat there still and silent watching him. After a short moment she could see his aura moving ever closer toward her own, and the moment the two met she felt a shiver run though her body; a moment of connection between the two of them. Suddenly Everett's aura began to shine brighter them before. When he opened his eyes Chris could tell he was seeing her world, the world where everything glittered with life and colors were brighter. There was something magical about it all something she could never put into words. She could see the awe in his eyes. “Isn't it fantastic?” she asked with a grin. One you saw the world in this new and brilliant way it was hard to look at it with out realizing it's beauty. |
