Time of Day: Afternoon, around 3:45PM Place in the Time-Line: May 10th, direct follow on from Fighting In The Sunshine. She arrived in the Danger Room five minutes before Zodiac and Author to set up the simulation, which, thanks to the diligent preprogramming of ShadowX, would not take long at all. It would be interesting to see how both girls were going to react to this one, because honestly, they were not prepared for what was coming, and not just for the obvious reasons than they hadn‘t been told beforehand what to expect. After receiving her answer from Scott and Jean in unison, Mana’s planning had started to take on a whole new meaning, a new direction, and soon, it would become a reality within the simulated environment of one of the most technologically advanced computer programs she had ever seen. “Yo be sure I really be needin t’ be here?” Remy asked, red-on-black eyes watching Mana from just behind her, as she double checked the simulation was ready. The Cajun knew she was so far gone;; believed so strongly that what she was doing was the right thing. It hurt him to be there, to see just how much the young woman had changed, going from not wanting to hurt anyone, to now willing to kill with the blades she’d accepted, but had been reluctant to ever use. “Yes,” was her simple answer. “You know your powers better than anyone else, so, of course you need to be here,” even her tone reflected just how obvious that should be to him, Gambit inwardly realizing just how easy it was for someone’s unlikable traits to be brought to the surface like they had been with so many already under the influence of ShadowX. He made no attempt to answer her verbally, just nodded, moving to sit down while they waited for their charges to arrive. |

Time of day: Mid afternoon Place in Timeline: Directly following Fighting in the Sunshine The Author blinked a couple of times, as she was called out of her game, and into...the danger room. Usually Lesly had a training session there on Tuesdays, not Thursdays. But one had to be flexible when Her squad leader called a session out of the blue. "Well," She said, puffing the three hairs left open of her bangs, "I'll say this game is a tie." Lesly looked around as Blade Girl left form her secret observational post, and walk towards the Danger Room. She looked over at Zodiac and winked once, just enough to give her a suggestion about what was going on. "Race ya!" she yelped as she bolted towards the Mansion. She easily weaved in and out of the trees, giving her just enough variance to get her though the trees, and enough lead way to make sure that Kate had a chance of catching up to her. She skidded though the side door, spinning it around and slamming it close behind her, hopefully in Kate's face. She bolted down the hallway, air whipping her combat ponytail around her shoulders. Lesly grappled the corner, spinning around to keep her momentum. BAM!! She slammed into a stop, falling over someone on their way to the Danger Room. "What The-" she gasped after catching her breath, she peeled herself off, And doing a damage assessment. "Sorry," She said, as she finally got a look at who she ran into. |

Mana's announcement to them made Kate stand up more fully, already checking her uniform over to make sure that it was okay for a training session in the Danger Room. It was one thing to play tag outside, but quite another to train in the holy mother of all training rooms itself, and the girl wanted to be fully prepared. It was because of this notion that Kate was puzzled when Author took off running, still playful and giggling. For a long moment she could only stand there, wondering how such a serious thing such as formal training could be taken so lightly. Finally shaking her head, Zodiac ran a final check of her uniform, noting any loose threads or rips that were present, before she trotted after Author up the slope towards the mansion. There was no way she was going to be late for something like this. Only a few yards behind the older girl, Kate branched off into a different hallway, heading straight for the utility elevator that would bring her right next to the Danger Room. As she waited for it to arrive on her level, she fished into her pocket and pulled out her mask. By the time Kate reached the sub-basement, her mask was in place, and her face beneath it was set seriously. There were the Danger Room doors...but where the heck was Lesly? |

“Dey be comin, Mon Cheri,” Remy announced, red-on-black eyes seeing Kate appear in the hallway via the security monitor in front of him, her lack of not wanting to be late felt by Blade Girl as she’d left the two girls behind outside. “Yo won be able t’ be simulatin all aspects of dis, Petit, some o’ it needs t’ be given t’ dem,” he spoke yet again what was already so very obvious to Mana, her look enough to tell him he really did need to shut up right now. Arrogance was not becoming in her, yet, it was there, where there had not been even a hint of it once before. “Let’s go,” she said, gathering up the palm pilot on the desk in her hand and moving out of the control room. By the time they reached the Danger Room floor, both girls should have been there, and, if one of them wasn’t and did not appear before she’d finished her explanation, the anti would be upped for that particular person. “Right, thank you for your swiftness. I noticed during your playtime outside that the two of you were imitating some of the X-Men, Cyclops and Gambit to be precise,” and, at this point she motioned to the Cajun standing beside her. “So, how about we stop pretending and start imitating reality?” she asked, the question so very obviously rhetorical. Turning to Remy, she nodded, the Southerner proceeding to retrieve one of his custom Bo staffs and a full deck of cards from one of the inner pockets of his brown leather trench coat. While he did that, Mana addressed Kate, “Since you believe Cyclops is way better than Gambit, you will be given his powers for this simulation,” and, right on queue, the Danger Room activated, Zodiac’s eyes turning red, filling with the energy she already knew was solely Cyclops’. At the same time, before it reached its full potential, the ruby quartz visa appeared, a solid projection covering her eyes. “You have a few moments to get used to the controls,” Blade Girl informed the empath, before giving the floor to Remy, who stepped up to Lesly, handing her the Bo Staff and the cards, the smirk on his face as the Danger Room turned the Author’s eyes red-on-black, already glowing with the kinetic energy so uniquely Gambit’s. “Yo be needin a few moments to get used t’ usin dem too, mah Petit. I be suggestin de two of yo be gettin t’ it,” and with that, he stepped back beside Mana, the two of them walking back towards the control room, settling in to observe just how the girls reacted to the new powers they had been given. |

((OOC: I"m guessing that it's Lesly's turn)) Lesly spun around, not even waiting for the person to respond to her apology. She bolt3ed down to the Danger Room, and skid to a stop just as Remy showed up. Her Jaw nearly hit the floor in surprise. "Remy...Gambit..." she said staring slightly up at one of her idols. She stood there stammering as the simulation work its way around her, turning her, if temporarily, into a miniature Gambit. She slowly accepted the cards, slipping them into her utility belt, and giving the Bo staff a few experimental twirls over and under her hand. She had yet to learn of armed combat in Karate, but that doesn't mean she hasn't played around with a broom before. "It's a little long for me..." She said, trying to do a sweep behind her back, and the end hitting the ground sooner then she wanted to. "I think I could work with it though." She flexed it slightly in the center, seeing if it would hold her weight in a pole vault. (Of course, if it could hold the Cajun, it would have no problem holding the Little Author up). A Few more twirls over her head as she settled into the staff. she noticed the slight vibrations as it flew though the air, and worn and roughs spots along it's length. It was becoming hers. The Little Cajun stepped back, facing her friend, decked out in Cyclops visor, and glowing eyes. "Yo betta be for running, Petit...." She said in her best Cajun accent. She tossed the Staff into the air, catching it in the center, and snapping out and to her side violently, the air singing over it's wooden surface. Slowly, just like before, she paced off, waiting for Kate to make her move... |

Once Mana and Gambit started speaking, Kate listened attentively, gloved hands clasped before her, but what they had to say startled a gasp out of her. She would be Cyclops? The thought both thrilled and intimidated her. What if she wasn't any good? What if she let him down? Nevertheless, the girl found herself nodding, accepting the challenge even as Lesly received her bo staff. It wasn't a surprise when her vision blurred momentarily, becoming red and glowing with power. The next moment, a visor wrapped around her eyes and temples, and just in time too, because the power in her eyes had grown too much and thumped dully against the quartz as it settled. They said she had a few minutes to adjust. Turning away, Kate tried to concentrate. She lifted a gloved hand, feeling for the controls that she knew were there. The resulting blast nearly knocked her off her feet. Okay...too much power. Kate turned the dial down, creating a steady stream of red energy that pulsed even in her limited sight. But that wasn't all Cyclops could do, right? Hehad laser eyes, sure, but a massive portion of his skill in combat came from the fact that he was physically fit and trained. He didn't have to rely solely on a mutation to protect himself. Yup, Kate would be in for a challenge, there was no denying it. She wasn't nearly as fit as Cyclops, but maybe...just maybe...her power (his power) would save her. Nodding brusquely, Zodiac turned to face Author, already formulating a plan in her mind. Her hand stayed up at the visor, like the so many times she'd seen Scott. "Well, Miss Swamp Rat," She said in her best impression of Scott's stern voice. "I would rethink that if I were you." With that, Kate twirled the dial at her temple, opening up a middling blast that hopefull might destroy Lesly's new bo staff...if she were lucky. |

Author smirked as Zodiac talked back to her. "Lady, that would-" She started to say as Zodiac reached up to open her visor. Lesly dropped and rolled to dodge the attack. Even then, half the beam on her eyebrow. swelled and knocked her back on her butt. Lesly spun over, Bo staff overhead. She cracked it on the ground, more for show, but partly on physics. She quickly reached to her belt and grabbed a card out of her belt, and quickly charged it. It glowed and vibrated slightly under her finger tips. "Cool." She muttered and quickly sprinted towards the other side of the room. She shot past Kate, her best friend, and threw the card just before The mini-Cyclops's feet. She turned her head slightly to the left to avoid the blinding Flash from her boom. The Mini-Gambit charged during the explosion, head straight for the wall behind Kate. "So, Am I still a Swap Rat?" She said, ricocheting off the wall. "Or am I an actually threat?!" Lesly, The Author, The Mini-Gambit, yelled, both in her bravado and to give Kate fair warning of her attack. Tactically, she knew that yelling out in the middle of a fight was both a waste of Lungs, and could give away her position. But even underneath all of the Brainwashing, the sub mentality of war and combat; Somewhere next to the feeling of inadequacy next to her sister, and the basic one-up-man-ship that she had grown up to use and abuse, Little Lesly was still a Kid. And Kate was still her friend, and beneath her growing warrior's ways, She still had to give her friend fair warning... "INCOMING!!" She said, cracking her Bo staff though the air, ready to hit her target. |

Two sets of eyes watched them carefully, Remy already rather impressed at how well Lesly seemed to be getting the hang of being… well, him. “Now dat I be seein dis, I be tinkin dere be more den jus de little bit o watchin me, non?” he asked, smirking at Mana, who simply nodded, gaze intently on Kate, a genuine smile of pride appearing on her face. “Look at that, Cyclops is certainly one to be admired,” she said, finally looking at the Cajun and adding, “And you too, of course,” so blatantly said with way less conviction then when the healer was talking about Scott Grey-Summers. She didn’t see him raise an eyebrow at her, completely and utterly wishing he could just reach out and shake some sense into her, however, the time for that was not now. The time was steadily arriving for… As Lesly swung Gambit’s Bo staff towards Kate, the boring grey walls of the Danger Room began to change into the sprawling streets and alleyways of New York City. From every angle they came, carrying an array of weapons - guns, knives, bats, metal bars, anything and everything that could be used to cause harm to someone, even the odd pitchfork - their way lit by glowing torches of fire or battery powered. Their intent... ending the lives of every single mutant they came across. Their next targets... Zodiac and Author, with powers that weren’t theirs, yet, had now been given to use. “Playtime is over!” came Mana’s deadly serious voice from the control room. The anti-mutant crowd descended on them, closing in from every direction, via the alleyways, the streets, coming out of the buildings now surrounding them. “Rescue, escape, and evade. Fight, or die,” it was the final order, the last thing to be said before Lesly and Kate would truly be on their own, observed, yet on their own, and, as the first of the human crowd appeared, both girls would see some of the mutants they had already come across were still alive… Kids rounded up for the slaughter;; the sacrifice that would come later, of which, the leader of one of the groups soon saw Kate and Lesley were mutants young enough to be included in... In case it isn’t clear, using ONLY Cyclops and Gambit’s powers/abilities, do whatever it takes to rescue the kids (yes, there are BABIES among them) and make sure you yourselves are not taken in the process. |

Kate wasn't quick enough to avoid the charged card that Lesly sent her way. It exploded with a pop at her feet, doing more damage to her eyesight than she had thought possible, but thankfully the red tint to her glasses took some of the impact away. Nevertheless, the girl stumbled for a moment, trying to right herself. Lesly was shouting, and the moment Kate realized where the older girl was, she snapped her face around and spun the dial blindly, aiming for the mini-Gambit. So she couldn't see her...Lesly had screamed, making it possible to at least know her vague location. However, something was happening. As the spots in her eyes were clearing, Kate realized that her surroundings were changing, and that she was standing on the streets of New York City. There was a crowd...she blinked again, then sucked in a sharp breath, smelling gasoline and anger. "Get back!" Kate bleated, hand still at her visor as she stumbled back. but there was no place to go. The crowd was everywhere, and as much as Kate wanted to make a trench with her new powers, she saw what would change it all. There were mutant children dotted in amongst the horrible crowd, some not much younger than she was, and they were all sobbing raggedly. "Author!" It was time to work together, to rescue the other children and hope to heaven that nothing would happen. Kate set her sights on the protesters, knocking them out one by one, but it wasn't going to be enough. What were they supposed to do. "Get at my back!" Maybe, just maybe, back to back they would stand a chance. |

Lesly gasped in surprise as the The Danger dissolved around them and the Streets of New York appeared. Author lost concentration and broke off her charge midair, and slid off beside Zodiac. "What in the..." She said, biting off the last word. Her head snapped around, left, right, behind them. Everywhere she looked, their were weapons and angry face. "Maybe if we-" Mini-Gambit started to say, when one of the rioters threw a Molotov cocktail at her feet. She sprang up and spun in behind Cyclops. "Ok, We'll do things your way!" She said, he Bo staff out and scanned the crowd. A tingle shot down Lesly's spine, and coursed out though her limbs. Liquid energy crawled out of her blood stream, tapping open the biological reserves of ATP and dumping it into her skeletal muscles. But more then just a biological response happened to the girl. Now, her mind down shifted, clawing deeper into her environment, but nothing else. She could feel out the crowd, sensing the tide and ripples through out them. Even how some of them bickered back and forth around the pockets of...children. Little kids, some no older then she was. They seemed to want to harm them, but were afraid for their lives. They spit and throw garbage on them, but didn't hit them with the weapons they so readily used. THen, she saw why. One of the kids, a Boy of 15 or 16 reared up and...quite literally bleached fire out over the crowd. "Zodiac," She said over her shoulder, charging a card in her fingers. "Their Mutants in that crowd...kids like us." She turned back to the crowd and threw the card bomb just in front of the crowd. "I might be able to Pole vault over to the kids..." She said, visually gauging the distance. "Maybe I can get us some reinforcements..." She said, leaving off the rest of the thought, that Zodiac would be alone in the middle of this crowd... "Your Choice of course." She said calmly, as she snapped her Bo staff over the face of an approaching bat wielder. A sharp crack and The man fell back, with a sharp cry of pain and a spinning head. Killed or be kill..isn't that what war is about? |

((Eep, sorry it took me so long. Things have been a bit insane here lately...)) Kate desperately wanted to close her eyes, to think this over carefully, but the roar of the crowd and the immediate danger they were in made it impossible. Instead, she kept her hand tight at her temple, ready and waiting to blast. "You'll get stuck if you try to go alone." Kate yelled over the noise. Decisive now, she aimed towards the ground and opened her visor fully, carving a deep, wide trench all around them in the street. At least it might keep the crowd from them, but what would keep the crowd from the other children? She was sweating now, terrified that these children wouldn't be saved even though she knew that logically, they were only images. It didn't make the horror any less when Lesly killed the man in front of her, or the fear that those with the torches would come rushing after her. "What if we use the kids' powers against them?" Kate wanted to know suddenly, twisting her head very quickly to look at Lesly. "They can help a little, right?" On cue, the boy belched fire over the crowd, opening a path in front of him. But what if they didn't have control? What if the kids couldn't even use their powers from fear? Kate bit her lower lip, thinking. "What if we get them in the sewer?" She asked, beaming a man in the head as he tried to cross her trench. "It's not confined...they won't be sitting ducks!" |

Lesly didn't even blink as the man fell, never to rise again. Even the slight fact that this is a simulation, it was still real enough for Lesly to taste the blood tinge in her mouth. Her raw, and yes, human heart twisted in agony in the inhuman act of taking another life. Her soul screamed in terror at the pure sin she had just committed. Yet, her mind, her reasoning that defined her over the animals of God's creation, that soothed her inner torment. He was trying to attack you...He was coming to kill you...You have every right to defend yourself... Her thought's soothed her, tempted her to think that she could justify what she did. But the voice wasn't hers, not exactly. It sounded like her , but it was off, tainted by the subtle charge into her mind, wooing her into thinking that her act of violence was justified. But who are we to justify anything... Author blinked as Zodiac craved a trench into the ground around them. Some of the humans responded by climbing their way into the moat and trying to charge them, but the steep sides and the simple altitude of the situation, Lesly only had to kick and step on their toes to keep them back. "Sewers?" She said in surprise, "Sewers? What kind of plan is that." she said over her shoulder, still blindly swiping at the rioters with her borrowed Bo Staff. Of course, Lesly didn't have any better ideas. "At least maybe the smell will keep them from following UUUS-" She said as one of the smarter of the Mobster grabbed her staff, and be3fore she could even think to let go, they dragged her off the castle mount and into the moat. "KATE!!" She screamed as the crowd dragged her down into the ditch. She kicked and punched, trying to claw her way out of the crowd. She spun her Staff behind her back, breaking the man's wrist holding her down, only to fall into another strangle hold. She didn't scream a codename, or a title, she was screaming for a friend., her friend. |
