Time of day: Oh-so-late; around midnight Place in the time-line: Slightly over a month past 'Shattered' - About a month after the whole Shadow-X takeover thing. When Kelrian first met his long-time roommate, Alexander Legard had thought him as 'blatantly strange'. And he was, although Kel had toned it down a bit since then. The blond teenager didn't know his first impression on his friend, but it was so incredibly strange for the other teen to be gone. They'd been roommates for so long. What was it, two years now? Alex leaving like that, it unsettled Kel even more than the main figures of the mansion 'abandoning the cause' or whatever. The whole situation highly disturbed the regen, but it was currently out of his hands. What could he do? He looked after the kids, and tried to stay out of trouble. Not that the latter went too well. He was clumsy, accident prone, his attention span was nigh to non-existent... and furthermore, their disciplinary measures reminded him all too much of what he wanted to forget. They didn't need to tell him of the horrors humanity could inflict. Wasn't his mother killed by them for having those wings? Wasn't he tortured nearly to death only last summer by those very same humans that murdered his mother? And wasn't his sister oh-so-recently killed during a mutant rights thing? Kel wasn't the cheerfully oblivious kid he'd been before, he's been mentally scarred by the things that have happened to him this last year. Still, it hadn't destroyed him. He put the pieces back together, only for this. He'd survived. He was getting over it, finally. And then, those he put so much trust in turned out to be... he stopped that line of thought. That was dangerous. He wasn't going to be trouble. There was nothing he could do, and what would he do if he could? It was nothing but a feeling, deep inside, that this was all wrong somehow. He couldn't really focus on it for some reason, but it was there all the same. The blond teenager sighed and closed his eyes although he wouldn't sleep. He never did, after all. For the first time, he was rather happy with that fact. The nightmares that plagued much of the school... they weren't normal, and they weren't right. At least, since he didn't sleep, that was one thing he didn't have to deal with. However, sitting up, night after night, in the dark.. that took its own toll. Primary being, he still didn't know his new roommates all too well. They were strangers, and he tried not to bother them overmuch. Before, he just wandered the halls despite the curfew. He really, really did not like staying in a dark room for hours, trying not to make a noise so as to not wake the others. He felt like he was going to suffocate. All that kept him relatively calm and still was meditation. Faye had passed it on, after Wolverine had taught it to him. Kel was so spazzy and energetic, and he needed to focus it somehow. This helped, to a degree. A very slight degree. He felt as if he was slowly going crazy. First thing, early morning, he was going out for a run. A long run. He seriously had to burn off some excess energy or something was probably going to get broken. And he didn’t need any more lectures. He knew he was clumsy, he didn‘t need others going on about it at length. Pushing some stuffed animals out of the way, he flopped over on his side. The night wasn’t even half over. This officially sucked. |

T'was the night of the insomniacs when all through the room, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse... Well, kinda. There were no mice in the room. Just some kids who found sleep extraordinarily elusive. Unlike Kelrian, though, Vic conciously evaded sleep. At the moment, he was up again, silently pulling on his uniform for another night out. That was how he stayed awake and preserved his memories. As he pulled on his gauntlets, Vic wondered where he'd go tonight. Yesterday he'd hung out in the student lounge all night. Played a couple games through. When you've got all night and limitless patience, you can accomplish anything in a video game. Even that 30-hit combo you've been trying to pull off for the last month. Tonight... He was going to check out the hedge maze. He could see it clearly through the window, and in all the time he'd stayed at the mansion, he'd never tried it. Not once. But he would do so tonight. Again, he had all night and limitless patience. Anole would conquer his new self-imposed challenge before sunrise. With his confidence keeping sleep at bay, Victor made his way to the door. At the moment his hand touched the doorknob, one of his roommates started moving, and on pure reflex, Victor froze and his skin and clothing snapped to resemble the door and wall behind him. Of course, he'd been caught fairly off guard, so the coloring and pattern was kinda off... But half-asleep teens wouldn't notice that, right? |

It was late and way past curfew but nonetheless the Mexican mutant was awake. Why? He was ordered by Jean to patrol the mansion for students who were trying to skip curfew. As an X-Men, it was his duty to enforce the rules of the mansion, even if he felt they were against Xavier's dream. Though he didn't truly want to do many of the things he was ordered to do, he did them anyway for due to two reasons. The first one being the telepathic control over him that Jean had and the second being the fact that he pledged loyalty to the mansion and X-Men and he would not betray that pledge since it was made in the presence of a very respected man, Charles Xavier. The lights in the mansion were now turned off and Diego finished making his last round before returning to his room. Diego Salinas AKA Quicksand was changed rooms recently due to certain reasons such as the disappearance of the former resident and such which led him to now share a room with two other people. Diego was different than them in the sense that he was the oldest in the room and he was an X-Men. He had not necessarily spoken to either boy as he was busy with other matters and orders given by Scott and Jean but he was aware of them and knew things about them. He had seen them in the archives which he had been given access to due to his X-Men status so he was aware of them. The sandman was a bit tired and wanted to sleep but he knew it would be quite difficult considering the constant nightmares replaying in his head every night. His body demanded sleep but he was almost too seemingly too frightened of his dreams to sleep. The same one replayed over and over every night so he knew what to expect but either way he would wake up from those dreams frightened. What a distasteful emotion, fear. Diego was used to fear, created it and feeling it. He wasn't afraid of many things but one thing he was afraid of was of himself. His violent past gave reason as to why he had reasoning for feeling that fear towards himself. Still he tried to persuade himself under the illusion that maybe that dream won't replay itself. He began to think that way too for that night. The ex-gang member reached for the handle and turned it thus opening the door but he felt as though something was relatively close to the door as he opened it. Standing in the doorway was a lizard-like figure with odd coloring as if his skin had matched with the door but this time as Diego was in the other direction, he easily detected him. At this point Diego had already realized what Vic was trying to do. He really didn't feel like doing it but he had to enforce the rules. "Anole" Quicksand began, "What are you doin'? Students are not allowed out of their rooms passed curfew" |

There was more then just the Mexican student patroling the halls, another was an Irish youth that some people in the school new as Liam Linton-Davis, son to a rockstar, just the type from that song by Nickelback, girls came easy and drugs came cheap type rockstar. As such, Liam himself was the one who had to take care of the family, enforcing the rules was for someone's benefit, they might not realise it at the current point in there lives, but when they were fine upstanding citizens and enforcing their own rules some day they might look back on Liam as think to themselves "Jeez, he was right." People didn't like being told what to do, not for the most part anyway, but Liam was far beyond the point of caring, it had to be done. Well that was the attitude he took with his siblings, but patroling the halls as a member of the Elite Squad was a different matter. This time the boy was under the influence of psionic manipulation, and quite perfectly subservant. If someone was caught outside of his or her dorm, the cane came down so to speak. Hell Liam would walk around spinning a baton if it wasn't for the fact that he carried around a sword anyway. So with the end of his natural weapon slung over his shoulder, one hand casually resting on the hilt to stop it from sliding over his shoulder and onto the ground, tonight it was fine and sleek. His belief in Pheonix was as absolute as the control over his mind. With full confidence in the righteossness of his actions, the weapon was as sharp as ever, he was almost looking for a reason to use it, and destiny gave him the beginnings of a chance. Down the corridoe from where Liam currently was he spotted Diego, and low and behold he was asking someone
Oh "Anole" by all means, just give me a reason to cave your head in! He thought to himself as he wandered up, long strides like a corrupt police officer after finding someone he didn't like. To say he was one of the more zealous of the Elite Squad members just mau have been accurate, and to think, he had looked forward to being a hero. "Primarch, Elite Squad." He introduced, now standing behind Diego and looking towards Anole. "Whats going on?" |

"He's not out of our room, though, is he?" Kelrian said before sitting up and glancing at his two roommates. There really was no point in pretending to be asleep if the others were up and about. And sneaking out and getting caught. He sighed. Not at the sneaking out part, but the getting caught. He wouldn't have said anything, it was Anole's risk, and he understood the need to escape the confines of the room. That said, he looked at the other member of the Elite Squad. "From what I can tell, and I've only been here the entire time, was that Anole had insomnia and was practicing his camoflage." He tilted his head slightly, as it was slightly off. Of course, Victor was right by the door... and that could be suspicious to the other two. Kel's open, honest face told no lies, however. He may have seemed slightly irritated that there were three others around the doorway, but at least it was a distraction from the nothing he had to do until morning. "You're a little off there," he added to his mentioned roommate with a half smile as he at least tried. He hoped they wouldn't get on the kid's case. |

Vic only started breathing when he saw that Kelrian didn't move again. No problem. He turned again to the door, and reached for the door again when it opened from the other side. A thousand thoughts ran through his mind, like who the hell was coming into the room at this time of night, and how much possible trouble he could be in. If he'd been in alert mode, he would have been able to get out of the doorway and adjust his camo, but he'd been taken completely by surprise. All he could to was stand there like a deer in headlights. When words started coming his way, Vic was running through a couple excuses, though he didn't forget to glare at Liam from the "Elite Squad". Despite their supposed Elite status, Vic felt nothing but strong dislike for most of them. Liam was not one of the exceptions. "Yo! Diego! I didn't do anything!" Vic stated, putting his arms up in a defensive position. He purposely avoided the use of codenames. He was not part of ShadowX's army, and he wasn't going to pretend that he was. Anyways, You really can't get mad at someone because they were about to break a rule. "You were thinking about robbing that bank, so we're gonna have to take you in" What kind of nonsense was that? Kel spoke up for him, and Victor silently praised every high power he could think of. Once Kel finished speaking, Vic gestured toward him in a sort of "See?? I didn't do anything!!" motion. Once attention was drawn to his camo, he immediately referted back to his normal coloring, his skin back to green and his uniform back to yellow and black. |

Diego's head suddenly shifted upwards as he heard a voice from the darkness of the dorm. Moving his hand towards the wall, he found the light switch and turned on the lights of the room. It was then when he saw that the voice came from Kelrian. He began to wonder why he wasn't asleep but then he remembered seeing something in the archives that stated something dealing with Kelrian's inability to sleep. That was something interesting. Diego couldn't imagine just laying there for more than an hour since this mutant was a man of action. He always had been which is the reason he became a high ranking member of his gang back in Los. He was happy he gave all that up but he couldn't help but have certain trains he picked up during his gang life. It was true about what was being said that Vic had yet to do anything and Diego actually wouldn't have done anything but he had to keep up certain appearances. He had to play the part of a loyal believer of the dream though slowly due to Jean's telepathic abilities, he was becoming more and more under their control. It was taking so long because Diego had a strong will and his mind naturally resisted though he didn't have anything to bring immunity to his brain. Diego's eyes shifted towards the lizard-like teenager before him and then to the more human Kelrian. It appeared that Kelrian did not want to cause too much trouble for Vic as in the mansion during these times, punishments were rough. He noted Vic's lack of protocol and called him by his real name rather than his codename as was mandatory. Many would've considered this a lack of respect as Diego was the oldest one present, an X-Men and Jean and Scott's enforcer of the rules. But, Diego didn't care one way or another with that rule and besides he didn't actually believe in the dream but was being controlled to act as if he did. His eyes shifted away from the room as he heard a voice approach. It was one of the older students. He called himself Primarch and apparently he was one of the Elite Students. "I see, Primarch. I'm Quicksand. X-Men, Corsair squad" Diego told the newcomer "Nothin' much but I caught Anole here in an attempt to wonder around the halls" Diego looked at Vic and then shifted his brown eyes to Kelrian. It was true that he couldn't do anything without actually catching them in the act. Would he let it go either way, he wasn't sure. "But, its true that since he wasn't in the hallway when I came, he didn't actually break any particular rule. Though, why were you out of bed and camouflaging? |

The Irish youth and mind slave to what had been engulfing the school in its recent troubles narrowed his eyes to slits for just a moment, easing them back to a more regular position a moment later. Primarch really hoped that Quicksand would be put off coming down on this "Vic" just because he hadn't gotten the chance to break a rule yet, didn't he know that there was no such thing as innocence, just degrees of guilt? original sin and its like. Prevention of crime was more important then getting justice after a crime was commited. "Its a pleasure Quicksand." He replied with his thick Irish accent, not that he noticed it compared to the accents of the people around him. Oh these crazy accented people! "He's out of his bed, standing in front of his door and in camouflage? Sounds like we caught him with conspiracy to break curfew, why should he get away with it because luck went against him and you caught him before hand?! He's as guilty as anyone else." Sneered the student, if he had been in his right mind would he have been saying this? Of course not, unless Anole actually had broken a rule, but even then he'd be lighter. "Don't you agree?" |

Kelrian was more than a little annoyed. Was it mentioned yet that he was starting to develop claustrophobia because of this little thing about being caged indoors in the dark all night long? It was bad enough that he had to deal with that, let alone this increasingly hostile and tense situation. The blond almost began to relax as Diego spoke, as much as he couldn't stand the dark and quiet for such extended periods of time... it was better than this. Vic hadn't done anything wrong. He was in his own room, dammit. Not to mention, that one guy had completely ignored what he'd said. Vic hadn't done anything... "It's not against the rules to think about breaking curfew, is it?" Kelrian asked, glancing at Primarch. "Because if it is, I think I owe about a years worth of detentions and suchlike." The blond said this completely without concern. He didn't doubt that he might get into trouble because of this. It wasn't that. He simply wasn't afraid. He'd been tortured until his powers of regeneration had failed him - they'd cut his hand off for goodness sake - and if Cyclops hadn't come for him he'd be dead. He owed him, and the others that had been in the rescue, his life. There wasn't any thoughts of actual rebellion in his mind. He just didn't think someone should get in trouble for something they hadn't even done. "Conspiracy to break curfew? You'd think you were talking about murder the way you're going on about it." "Anyway," he said, chin rising slightly. Truthfully, he seemed like an offended kitten more than anything else. "I said that Victor was practicing his camoflage. If you can't sleep, you might as well do something constructive." |

At Quicksilver's question, Vic's patience lost some of its fortitude. he was like those old people who ask questions, and then stop listening while you give them the answer. Of course, the answer had come before the question, but it was close enough that Anole became alightly annoyed at their inattention. His respect level went down a notch, and with the lessened respect, his smart mouth came forward. "I was standing there, quietly, not moving." He stated, punctuating the last few words, in a tone that suggested he was speaking to someone who was exceptionally slow. "The object was not to be seen." Once Liam started talking, Anole moved to the doorframe and banged his head against it once. Unreal... He sounded like one of those corrupt police officers who just wanted to give everyone a hard time. Whoops! There goes another level of respect, and with it went another bit of restraint. "You have no idea how stupid you sound right now." He couldn't believe the nonsense. They were seriously considering punishing him for an infraction he hadn't committed! It was beside the point that he was in fact trying to sneak out. The problem was that they hadn't caught him doing anything wrong, and they had no proof that he'd been planning anything. Kel had made for him the perfect excuse, and they were too busy trying to make his ilfe miserable to even notice. |
