Travis watched as the boy’s reaction grew more and more interested and intrigued. He was considering it… considering the possibilities, and while Travis could definitely see that he was pretentious, he knew that could be overcome relatively easily. While Taylor considered, he wondered if he was understanding the reasoning behind the request… but from what he could tell, that was not in Taylor’s thoughts… all he saw was a challenge. The other personality had a definite possibility, as he seemed more serious… but that would resolve as well… “… It would take a lot of trial and error." “That’s fine… I am not thinking that this is going to be a short term project… it is going to take a lot on my end to create something to withstand that kind of computing power, as well as a facility in which to house it. I won’t lie to you, the path in which we are carving is likely to be dangerous, as we are treading on untamed land. No one has been able to attempt this, or has dared to try. I believe you are the only one capable of pulling this off safely, yet effectively.” After informing Taylor of the possible perils and his confidence in the young man to withstand them, he shifted gears yet again. “If you are going to go, then go… but we need to keep in touch one way or another. Most regular communication isn’t going to be safe… e-mail, telephone… so we need something else. I am thinking a neutral meeting place… which we can change depending upon our locations. You can almost guarantee I will stay in this area, but I have an idea.” He smiled, knowing that it was likely that Taylor would appreciate the idea. “Grid coordinates using inverted binary. I know about Binary and how to translate it, and it would keep us able to find a place. Google maps makes it easy enough to look up the exact location.” An interesting plan, but hopefully it would work… unless Taylor knew of a better idea. |

Taylor was still rather focused on divising a plan of action for creating the AI. He hadn't done a whole bunch of research into it, but there was certainly a reason it hadn't been accomplished to any satisfactory degree. He would first need to research and see what people had already done, and what didn't work. That would save him time and patience from numerous failures. Not that there wouldn't be numerous failures, but the number could be lessened. "I won’t lie to you, the path in which we are carving is likely to be dangerous, as we are treading on untamed land." Wait, what? Dangerous? Oh. Yea, dangerous. Got it. Ok, so Taylor was probably trivializing something that wasn't trivial, but at the moment, he was worried more about how he would accomplish the task set before him than who he would anger in doing so. Taylor could imagine people throwing a hissy fit over some kid building an AI, but he hoped that the fact that he was so young would lead people to ignore him. Maybe. He was certainly picking up on Travis' urgency, and that this might end up a bit more complicated than a "Programz for stuffz" deal. At mention of binary for encrypted messages, Taylor smiled. Binary was one of the few areas that he'd never actually needed to 'learn'. He was to binary as Neo was to the Matrix. His comprehension of binary code was as natural and easy as reading a Dr. Seuss book. "Binary sounds good. How would I get the message, though? Do the hats transmit information between each other?" Taylor took a final, cursory glance over his room. There was nothing else here he needed. He was good to go. |

“Actually… it only submits a single tone. Binary should be pretty simple through that. To transmit the tone, just take it off and press the cap on the top, the little button. Keep your finger on it though, because you will receive through vibration, not sound. Makes it to where we can contact the other at any time, without sound.” That being said, he tested the hat, taking his off and pressing on the hat for a full three seconds. Taylor’s hat vibrated silently, and as he transmitted, it was simple that he was saying ‘Hi.’ Quite simply, it worked. “Well, that’s that. I wish you luck on your path… We’ll be in touch.” With that he stood, cracked his neck, and slid slowly towards the door. “I hope everything will work out. I know that we shouldn’t have to worry about if we were going to be killed tomorrow in some mutant hate crime, or persecuted for something we didn’t do. We will make it happen.” With that, he turned, walked out the door, and walked with haste towards his room. There was much to do, much to plan… to design. Already his mind was hard at work, steadily beginning the outer framework for several different devices and designs, primarily for the technological prowess to harness the full potential of a truly sentient A.I. He also began thinking about several other things, primarily how to ensure it didn’t get out of hand. What made humanity unable to reach their potential? Flaws. Humans are not perfect, but computers are. If you give a computer a personality, you can give it flaws… make it accidentally overlook things, but still capable of learning. It was possible even to make it have morals… and what better way than to have it learn from humans. Let it figure things out for itself… things that everyone has to learn. |
