Exemplar and Paragon Training Session; Both teams + mentors

Kurt and Avery arrived, which seemed to be fairly good sign that at least some of his team were reliable, both the senior and the junior x-men setting an example for the others to follow. If they were around to see it. He watched Nightcrawler for a brief moment, as he drew his sword, noting the similar choice of weapon to his own. A voice at the door of the room, brought Warren’s attention up and he smirked slightly at Ari’s comments, not offering an answer as she carried on down to the Danger Room. Concentrating on the Danger Room computer, he busied himself with his continued search for the programme as Ari greeted Kurt. He was fairly certain Hank had named the simulation after some obscure Shakespeare reference and that was making it a little difficult to find.

Students continued to filter in, unfortunately most of them on Jean’s team, though their mentor hadn’t arrived yet. When she finally did, Warren focused with apparent intensity on the computer screen to hide the smile, as she explained her late arrival. “A likely excuse, Grey.” Warren replied with a wink.

:: You doing okay?:: She asked War in a concerned murmur, not wanting the others to hear and think it was an issue.

“Hmm? Yeah, just can’t find the programme...” Warren answered automatically, registering after a moment that Jean had spoken in his head rather than out loud and he turned his head to look at her, puzzled at first until he glanced towards the assembled group in the Danger Room. His back stiffened slightly and he looked back down at the control panel. ::I’m fine. They seem happy, and they both came to see me about it, so it’s all good. Probably good for me to be on the other end of it for once::

Kurt and Ari getting together didn’t exactly thrill him, but it was mostly just the thing of seeing an ex whom he was still friends with and occasionally missed, dating someone else, rather than a desire to get back together with Ari. He had broken it off, and he still thought he had made the right decision in doing so, for both of them. Warren couldn’t have given Ari what she needed and deserved, and Kurt, who seemed to be simpler, with less years and baggage behind him, would be able to do that. It still wasn’t particularly easy to see it played out in front of him.

Warren smiled at Jean’s response Zodiac’s question, finding the simulation in question moments later. “Hah, found it.” He stated triumphantly under his breath. Nodding at Jean’s offer of switching Ricochet to his team, Warren did a quickly mental role call of who was missing from his team. “Give them another few minutes, some of my team are a little.. vague. Hopefully we’ll get at least half of them turning up.”

The words had hardly left his mouth when Mazu came bouncing into the room. “Dear Lord....” he muttered, shaking his head slightly, and then pausing as he registered he was sounding a little bit too like Scott for his liking. A steady stream of students ambled into the Danger Room and Warren was pleased to see that the majority of his team had actually turned up. Faye came to the control room first, and Warren nodded and agreed to see him after the session, briefly wondering what the pre-cog would have to talk to him about.

“I think that’s all we’re getting.” Warren said, remotely locking the doors to the Danger Room, so that any late arrivals wouldn’t be able to get in and break the simulation. They would have to come to the control room and enter the training session that way. Flicking on the speakers so those in the Danger Room could hear him, Warren addressed the assembled group.

“As the numbers are slightly uneven, Ricochet, could you join up with Paragon for today, please.” He started the simulation, so the metallic walls of the Danger Room faded away and the salty scent of sea water whipped through the changing environment. Underneath the boots of the team members was a sandy shore, turquoise water stretching out into the horizon to their right and lush vegetation to their left. Further down the beach were two long wooden jetties, each one leading out to a large ship, painted black and gold with full, snowy white sails.

“Paragon are Soldiers, and will take the farthest ship, with the Royal Navy Flag, and Exemplar are Pirates and will take the first boat, flying the Jolly Roger. On the bottom level of Paragon’s boat is a golden sceptre, stored in a large wooden box. Paragon will be defending this, and Exemplar will be trying to take it from them. Whoever has the sceptre by the end of the simulation will be the winners. Once all the members of each team are on the ships, the scenery will change again and you will find yourselves out on the open sea which is when the challenge will officially start. The sails won’t need correcting, but someone will be needed on each ship to steer.”

He paused, allowing them time to react to the situation before carrying on. “Jean and I will be observing the whole thing, and marking each of you on your performance. Good luck everyone and try not to hurt each other too seriously. The infirmary only has so many beds.”

With that, he signed off and leant back in the chair, his wings curving over the top, giving Jean a grin. “This should be fun to watch.”

Only a day earlier, Angelo had found a car in a nearby junk yard that apparently still worked but needed to be fixed and Angelo's love of cars sparked at the thought of fixing this beauty into his own creation. After using the skills he learned in Los Angeles to start the car, the grey skinned X-Men drove it to the mansion. While at the moment it looked like a piece of crap, Angelo knew the potential something like this could have and after it would be blessed with his magical touch, this 1977 Monte Carlo would look like it did when it came off the assembly line and with interest. For the rest of the day, this car fanatic was busily working away on making a piece of crap look like solid gold, actually more like some tone of blue with designs or something like that.

Before this epidermis based mutant realized it, he had spent the whole day in the garage fixing this car. After getting some sleep, he returned to the working process and converted to mechanic mode. If he wasn't a mutant, maybe he would've been a good mechanic, or would be dead somewhere from a drive by shooting. It still didn't look like he made any progress but in a few weeks, it would start looking good. That's when the message came in of a special training session. Training session? He hadn't had that in a while, this would be interesting. He remembered his sessions he had when he was with Generation X and all the trouble he would get, sometimes he missed those days though he didn't miss his lack of control over his powers since he was better now. It was going to start soon but at the moment he was a little, occupied. During his mechanic work, Skin had used his skin to reach an area of the car that normal people couldn't reach but now it was somehow wrapped around some mechanic working of the car. Embarrassing. Luckily he was grey or else a color change would be seen.

For a couple of minutes, Angelo tried to unwrap himself a variety of ways. Pulling wouldn't work, neither would reforming it, so using the skin from his other fingers, he stretched the epidermis so push his skin away from the tangled area. The struggle ended with Angelo flopping onto his back by the force of skin. At that moment, his fingers look like long rubbery blankets. Reforming himself to his original form, Angelo cleaned himself off and ran out of the door since he was quite aware he would probably be late. The Los Angelan mutant ran at his top speed towards the basement. He was running so hard that many students who knew him quirked their eyebrows as they saw him go fast. He wasn't going to late, not if he could do anything about it.

CRAP! The door was starting to close! Placing his hands on the ground, Angelo stretched the skin on his fingers to launched himself through the door but as he neared the door, he was about to get smashed so he "compacted" his body a bit more and ended up doing some crazy acrobatic flip only Kurt or Diego could do. Unfortunately, Angelo's landing was off and he landed with his face on the floor.

"I give him a ten for effort and execution, Cathy"

He made it just in time since the door fully closed behind him. He still couldn't hear exactly what Warren was saying since his face and apparently ears were on the ground so as he started looking up, the metallic room suddenly morphed itself into the magnificent environment that was the beach. The salty air filled his nostrils and so did the water. Now this mutant was splashing around since he was still on the floor as the floor converted to sea water. "AY DIOS MIO!" Angelo suddenly yelled loudly as he was taken by surprise by the sudden change of the danger room. If someone didn't know he was there before, they would know now as the grey mutant shook off the water and fully stood before joining the others. Now fully calm and "normal" Angelo took this opportunity to look around. Somehow he was remind of Venice Beach. Except for the jetties and the boats there.

After hearing what the session would be about from Warren, Angelo grew a smirk on his face as he snapped his fingers. "Damn, an' I had a perfect eye patch for this too. I had a feelin' I was gonna be a pirate". Angelo looked around now and was finally realizing who came to this session. He noticed Ari and Kurt together and remembered some mention of the two of them now dating. Interesting. Angelo had been too busy with other stuff to realize it. Avery was there too in all her greenness. Mostly everyone else he knew who they were but then he saw someone he didn't exactly recognize. Must have been a new arrival.

"All right, boat time!" Angelo yelled as he ran to the designated boat. It was almost like he was a little kid but he couldn't contain his fun could he? Yes maybe but he didn't really feel like it now as it was a long time since he had been in the danger room and would take full advantage of it.

Kurt returned Ari's kiss happily. They were both fairly affectionate, but also considerate of the outside world. He still had some ground to stand on when he told students to stop sucking each others faces off in the hallway. His heart still sped up at seeing her face. He knew that they were still in the early stages and that, in theory, after a little while they would start getting used to the idea of being with each other. Kurt was nothing if not a romantic and chose to believe that this would never happen, that every time he saw her his pulse would quicken. Naive? Yes, but honestly what's the point of feeling something if in the back of your head there was the suspicion that it wasn't going to last.

"I wouldn't expect you to," he replied, "After all, what would be the fun of victory if you were holding back."

He wasn't as sure he was going to win has he let on. He knew she was distinct competition, and more than a little competitive. He hoped if he did win she wouldn't be too upset.

As Warren set out the scenario Kurt's mind started to think about how they could possibly win this. They were out powered on a straight offensive fight, but the rules of this particular session didn't state that you needed to take out all the opponents. Just make sure the scepter was in our hands before time ran out. The more Kurt thought about their task, the more he was confident they could win. Once on the boats, he assumed a position as default leader. He was the senior X man there, without Warren. This wasn't the military or anything, but someone had to take charge and Kurt figured it should likely be him.

"Okay, I think the first thing to remember is that to win we don't have to wipe them all out, which is good because they have some pretty heavy powers that we can't really compete with very effectively. I think keep away is the name of the game right now, and I think we should start by disabling their craft. Want, if you would be so kind as to want their steering wheel to be right here that should confuse them sufficiently and make steering quite hard. Should they think of a way to steer otherwise and board us I will go below decks and affix the scepter to my person, since I tend to be quite slippery. Ricochet, I may hand it off to you as well so be wary. I'll also need a volunteer to steer and the rest of us will have to stay above decks to keep that person from being taken down, since they will be in a relatively vulnerable condition."

Shina had been waiting. Immediately she was awake this morning at 0500, hair fixed, breakfast eaten, and teeth brushed by 0510. She put on a pair of gym shorts and a tight tank top and did her morning exercises with diligence and perfection, like a well oiled machine. Three minutes of non-stop push-ups, then three more of sit-ups. After that, she walked outside and went on her normal 2 mile run. Upon returning, she showered and checked her watch. 0723… still plenty of time before the general masses awoke. Taking her walk around the interior of the school, she stopped at the library, and walked slowly to an aisle that was labeled ‘Casual Reading’ and picked up the book she had started the day before.

It had been suggested to her that she needed to loosen up a little, and she one good way to go about doing that was to either let Jane take control, which was the easy way, or read a non-militaristic book. At first, she had hesitated, unsure what to read into, convincing herself that she wasn’t going to be able to get into the book’s story because she wasn’t able to relate. Still, she had said she was going to give it a try, and she had. Weirdly, the story was interesting, and she had actually spent a couple of good hours the day before reading a book. Moons of Mirrodin was the title, and it had intrigued her and awoken her curiosity and imagination.

Sitting in a comfortable chair, she fingered around in the area in which she had left off, looking for a particular page in which she had left her own special type of bookmark, a strip of bio-energy she stored in the page. She found it easily enough and began to read again.

It was interesting, to say the least, that she was still on guard after all the time that had passed since the incident. It was more interesting that her initial fear of telepaths had been proven correct. She still didn’t trust them, but she had come to realize that the true culprit was not the telepath herself, but the one who had manipulated her. Shina still craved to beat the tar out of whoever it was that had hurt them all so deeply, and turned them against each other… who had turned her into a puppet. With all that being said, she saw the tentacle of energy emanating from the powerful Jean Grey long before she actually connected with her mind. Instead of reacting instinctively though and smashing the energy with her own, keeping her mind safe, she allowed it to come and transmit it’s message. Adding another bookmark and returning the book, she walked expediently towards her room, and dawned her custom suit, gearing up in less than a full minute. From there she moved quickly towards the Danger Room, immediately and without hesitation.

A slight smirk appeared on her face as she moved to a dark corner of the Danger Room. She was the first one here it seemed, although that was far from rare. She turned her powered eyes off, dissipating her sight, but making her completely and utterly invisible. Stealth was something that she had nearly completely perfected, and it was second nature. The slight hum from the computer near her masked her shallow controlled breathing, and she was utterly motionless, waiting and watching.

People began to file in, first Warren in the control room, her squad leader, then other members. As they did, she noticed several of them stretching. Good idea, although Shina herself was more than stretched out at the moment. And you wonder why people think you are anti-social? Your hiding! Jane said to her. Shina did the mental version of an eye-roll, regardless of the fact that she was right, and finally melded out of the shadows. Jane knew what she was doing, and mentally sent a small note to Jean, Shhh... Watch This “Interesting line-up.” She said, doing her best to try and surprise Ari ever so slightly. Not enough to make her angry, but enough that if she had truly gone unnoticed that would likely startle the woman in a joking fashion. Who said she didn’t have a sense of humor?

"You're going to do great, Ave." The confidence behind Ari’s voice caused her to give her a meek smile.

“Thanks Re-re..” Her best friend was always there to pick her up, encouraging her no matter what it was she was unsure of. But more worrisome was that she did not know the task that lay ahead. She wasn’t sure if had it in her to face on her again if it came down to it. Surely everyone would understand if she avoided taking on Ari. Even though all was forgiven, though Avery protested that there was nothing to forgive, the memories were still very fresh in her mind. She didn’t ever want to hurt her like that again.

As Kate plopped down with them to stretch, her little quarry drove Avery from her thoughts. "What sort've program is it?" To this Avery gave a soft shrug. She honestly didn’t have a clue what they were in for this morning. Though Jean held more of an answer than she had, which caused Avery to wonder even more about it. Well, at least this ruled out hand to hand combat, she hopped.

One by one, other filed in, mostly of the Exemplar variety unfortunately. Though what was lightening was that most everyone seemed enthusiastic about the ‘secret’ training…well, except for Bobby who seemed to be more interesting in flirting and taking a little nap at the moment.. She made a mental note to stay away from him when he was using his powers. Beast had helped her formulate a serum that she could inject herself with to fight against moments of extreme cold…but it hadn’t been thoroughly tested and she didn’t wish to turn to that.

Her long ears then flickered and she tossed her head to look over her shoulder just as Angelo rolled in. Smirking at his entrance she shook her head and rose to her feet just as the program started and the floor beneath her shifted into sand. The next thing she knew he was running excitedly to his pirate ship, unable to contain himself as he hollered out while he went. Avery grinned this time and rolled her eyes in mirth as her attention turned to Nightcrawler. She nodded to his words, already assuming that he would rightfully take place as leader since in all honesty that he was unofficially second in command on their team.

“Right…” Avery agreed with a firm nod, looking over her fellow comrades. It was time to put her self-consciousness away for a little bit, her team would need her to be her most confident. Violet eyes fell to Faye, he was a pretty big guy, at least to her, and perhaps he could take the helm…maybe they’d get lucky and he’d get a little insight of where to steer, she wasn’t quite sure how his gift worked. After their little romp as children, Avery felt a little kinship towards him and wished to build on that.

“C’mon Faye, I bet you’d make a fine skipper…” She called out to him with a little encouraging wave. She then turned to Lesley who seemed to be almost as enthusiastic as Anne Lee, making her strides match with hers. “Hey Author,” she tried to make point to use everyone’s codenames. “How ‘bout you and me go look and see if there’s any cannons, eh?” She suggested quietly with a little wink. Avery may not be that useful until if/when the boarded their ship, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t find other ways to help out. She looked to the Mordred twins, how odd it was to see them as two instead of one; she couldn’t tell which was who. Then her gaze fell upon Ricochet and she gave him a smile and a friendly nod.

“Thanks for helping us out on this one…” The elven said politely. “We really appreciate it…” With another soft smile she turned and quickly strode up the jetty. She smirked to herself as she looked to the Pirate ship parallel to hers, picking out the gray figure of Angelo already on it.

“Hey Skin!” She hollered out across the water. “Don’t worry, salt water’ll get that motor grease smell right out!” Without having a chance to shower, Avery could practically smell the garage on him when he entered, knowing full well what he had been up to when he got the ‘call’. With that she gave a cheerful smile and a jolly wave before she walked across the gangway and onto the ship.

The room started to fill up, Bobby suddenly using Ari's shoulder as a pillow. She let out an easy laugh, rolling her eyes good-naturedly. Bobby was known for his flirty ways and Ari had often bantered back and forth with him pretty easily. Of course she had Kurt now and she shook her head at Bobby, glancing at Kurt, "I don't think you should get too comfy, Bobby." Kurt's own retort sounded and Ari couldn't help but let out a laugh. Come on, that was a good one. "Ooh Bobby, I'd say that was a burn if I ever heard one," she said with a smirk. Inwardly, she kind of liked that Kurt wasn't letting Bobby get away with it.

Smirking, she looked to Kurt as he teased about victory, "We'll see about that." Truthfully, she had no idea how the teams would turn out, and not knowing the scenario yet certainly didn't help. She was certainly competitive, but she knew that Paragon was a capable team. After all, she'd been part of that team once. Still, she was more than confident that her team could take theirs. You couldn't win with a defeatist attitude.

Of course, she wouldn't be facing Avery if she could help it. Those memories from ShadowX were still too fresh, and it was likely that Ari would never be able to go against Avery in a scenario like that. Someone else would have to face her if the scenario called for one-on-one fighting. Ari would take someone else and she was quite sure their squad leaders would understand why.

Shina attempted to sneak up behind her then, oddly enough, and Ari quirked an eyebrow as she turned to face her, "You're lucky I didn't react defensively, or you'd be on the ground, Jane. Or worse, pumped full of glass." She assumed it was Jane, since she'd never seen Shina attempt to be playful. Ever. But she didn't know either personality well enough to really know. Ari flashed an easy grin, though really she didn't see how Shina could have scared her in a danger room full of people. It wasn't exactly a dark alleyway, and Ari didn't really scare easy anyway.

Warren's voice came through the loud speaker and Ari listened with rapt attention, a grin spreading over her lips as she nudged Kate, "We're Pirates. Too bad they're not ninjas." Still chuckling, she looked out toward the boat Warren said would be theirs. It was time to get to their respective boats and Ari tried not to frown too much when they lost Ricochet to the enemy side.

She was quick to move across the sand to their boat, though moving through sand made her progress a bit slower than she would've preferred. Getting to the deck, Ari's gaze landed on the steering wheel. With Skin, she made up the only other Senior member of the team. She wasn't attempting to take over as leader, but there needed to be some semblance of order with this many people and she didn't mind taking that position. Naturally it was expected to be either she or Skin, or even a combination of the two.

Ari's gaze moved over the sides of their ship, taking in the cannons. "We're going to need people manning the cannons. Guys split up--" she instructed. "Zodiac, TM, Rosethorn, Kel--man the cannons. I want to see holes in their ship." Tiny Mighty was easily the physically strongest person on their team, but until they actually got to the soldier's boat, his strength would better be utilized lifting the heavy cannon balls.

As soon as all of the team members had stepped onto the ship, the scenario had started, their environment shifting to beautiful open water. It was game time and for as jokey as she could be, Ari was quite serious when it came to scenarios. "The other team has a few distinct advantages in this. Primarily Kurt and Ricochet, who'll be hard to keep in one spot. But we'll find a way when we get there." Incapacitating her boyfriend or her teammate were not beyond her to win this. She might not have been the strongest or the oldest, but she was strong mentally and tactics were already filling her mind.

"Icy, come here--I've got an idea for when we get near them. No doubt they'll try and stay away from our ship as much as they can. Think you can freeze the water around their ship to keep them in one spot?" she asked, calling toward the Iceman.

The steering wheel, which she had just been looking at, suddenly disappeared. Ari's mouth dropped open for a second. That was a dirty trick. Really clever, but dirty. But Ari didn't hesitate for long, "Mazu--get over here. You'll need to steer the ship for us. Water smashing against that side should push us over to them. Just get us as close as you can to their boat and me and Iceman can build bridges to get us across," she instructed. Hopefully, with some strong teamwork, this would work.

Kate

Jean's answer wasn't nearly enough to satisfy Kate's curiosity, and as she grinned at Lesly and crouched on the floor to stretch she glanced around the room, wondering if there were any clues around. Her thoughts were interrupted by the appearance of Anne Lee; Kate gave an exaggerated 'oof' as the other girl tackled her from behind.

"I'm not a plushy!" She exclaimed in protest, but Kate was grinning, her skin a pale happy opal as she wiggled around to look at the older girl. Anne Lee's words elicted a deep blush -- Mittens had been on her mind ever since that night in the garden -- and Kate glanced over to see if Lesly had heard. If she had, Kate would never hear the end of it. "Shh! Not so loud!"

So what if Anne Lee had whispered it? It was still too loud for poor, blushing Kate's taste.

Whatever would have been said next was interrupted as the entirety of the Danger Room shimmered, and Kate scrambled to her feet to stand at Ari's elbow, eager to see what the program was. To her surprise and great delight, what looked like pirate ships formed right there ahead of them.

The moment she learned that she was going to be a pirate, Kate crowed aloud, not caring if she sounded juvenile. She did a brief little dance in place in the sand, and then with a snappy salute to Warren's instructions, took off with the sand flying around her. This was a dream come true; she had read so many books of pirates, and to be a pirate was going to be the adventure of a lifetime.

"ARR!" Kate couldn't resist crowing, throwing her head back so that her red hair fluttered behind her. As Ari instructed, she bounded to her designated cannon, briefly running an appreciative hand over the ribbed metal before loading her first cannon ball. It was heavier than she had expected, but it was soon taken care of and she was ready. "Tell me when!" She called over the wind that was already billowing the sails out, ready to light the fuse and aim.

Kimberly watched as others arrived around her, friendly faces that she took classes with, trained with and was friends with. She saw Warren’s exasperated expression and giggled at it, everyone looked at her like that now. She frowned abit, EVERYONE thought she was a cream puff didn’t they? Well. . . she looked to Evvy and Jason, then she glanced at Ari; they knew fully well that Kimberly knew when to be serious. She had fought her very hardest against Ari back then.

While she was thinking about Ari she actually spoke. For a while Kimberly had been terrified of the glass spinner, as if she expected her to attack or something silly along those lines. Instead Ari just yelled out a command for Kimberly to steer the ship.

Kimberly smiled, waves were so easy, it was just a process of pushing and tanking water over and over, that way she could stir up huge dangerous waves if she liked. She thrust a fist into the air and yelled out “Yes Captain!”

She did a little spin and did a tae bo move in the direction of the other ship, pushing and pulling up waves to push the ship in the direction of the others. It was a slow process, but it would have taken a lot more effort from everyone else in any case. The whole time Kimberly was mouthing the words of one of her songs and doing a small dance on the spot, her attention didn’t go very far; but she could focus easily if she was performing. So she had come up with the little exercise to help her mover larger amounts of water. She could only tank 80 Gallons without hurting herself, and moving a entire ship was proving to be a bit more work than she had figured. “I really need to do some expansion exercises.”

Mordred
Unregistered

It was strange, they hadn't been in the danger room since being... seperated. Randal and Lyndal Mordred had always acted as one, and although their powers hadn't an offensive advantage to it there was always that saying. Two minds are better than one; one would catch what the other missed. They never - scratch that and say rarely - had problems with control of the body. Not only were they so closely linked that getting in a fight was just difficult, since they knew what was behind all the talk and posturing, it had been impossible to get away from each other growing up. Sharing the same body and all. So, they had to resort to getting along.

It had most definately surprised them that the link was tight as ever since they'd been seperated. Without much effort, Lyn could find herself in her brother's body. Which was not always a good thing. They were both getting used to having a measure of privacy, and being teenagers and all it was like... finally. It was bad enough that once in a while they tripped over an embarrassing stray thought of the others. Catching yourself checking out a mutual friend had always been slightly unnerving, even growing up as they had.

Still, it was their power, and they had to practice it. No use letting the only thing that made them special go to waste. After figuring out how she did it in the first place, as much as she understood, she explained it to her brother. And bullied him into trying. Made him - almost literally - pick her mind for precisely what she did. When they decided to 'visit' each other, they gave the other a mental tap before entering. At least, when they thought about it. Sharing for so long made such considerations seem a little odd, but it was nice. Practicing, seeing how far they could easily reach each other... but that was only a matter of concentration. After all, hadn't Lyn been miles away from each other and still able to reach her body?

Still... how in the world would any of this do any good, dealing with pirates? Maybe if they were in seperate groups or something, they could be used as communication between teams? That was a consideration they hadn't figured before, but since everyone was on the ship that was out of the question. Perhaps one of them could purposely get captured? Having a spy might be useful. Just how much did the others know of their powers? They hadn't changed much since their seperation, but they did seem to expand quite a bit.

Randal was pacing, while Lyn was sitting crosslegged on the deck; they were both obviously deep in thought. Plotting was oh-so-fun, and they were completely in mental synch with one another. It was strange, how much closer they'd become since they gained seperate bodies - as if they'd been held back before, with only half of their potential.

Shina listened intently to the instructions. One sided Capture the Flag… er… Scepter. Easy enough. Shina was pretty darn good at defense. When Kurt asked for someone to steer, she was not one to volunteer. She didn’t have good distance vision… at all. It was difficult at best for her to steer something as large as boat, but she could sure as hell defend the person who was. Dashing to her ship, she moved up and listened to Kurt.

“I will actually work better on the inside the ship, but I have skill with cannons…” she said, sending a small pulse of energy to scour the ship for what she needed. She nodded towards Kurt, a silent approval at his lead. Would she like to be in charge? Sure… But this was not an ordeal in which there could be two squabbling Chiefs… and not enough Indians. “I’ll see how well I can pump their boat full of holes… but we need to get this wooden crate moving. If they get close, I will defend the driver… If they board, I suggest anyone who can fight in cramped spaces get below deck. It will be easier to defend on the inside of the boat, and we know they aren’t going to sink us… they would lose the scepter. Not only that, but even if they steal it, all we have to do is get it back… whoever has it when the time is up, wins. Also, if anyone is low on energy, come see me… I’ll give you a boost.” As Shina made her notes towards Kurt and the rest of their defenders, she moved quickly towards a hatch leading to one level below. Not but a few moments later, the sounds of a heavy sphere being loaded into a cannon could be heard.

Her mind raced with calculations that were second nature to her, working in Artillery while in the Army. Wind speed, estimated velocity to gunpowder ratio, arc, angle, target, movement of both the enemy and themselves… everything began running through her mind as she made adjustments to the cannon’s angle. Artillery was something that was muscle memory… and although this wasn’t exactly what she was used to, it still was artillery all the same. It went through the same properties… and it used the same formulas… Her First commander of her unit had taught them how to make those kinds of calculations from memory, because there wouldn’t always be a computer sitting there or a GPS to help guidance. Sometimes, all you go was a map and a Call for Fire, and she thanked her commander for that.

She wasn’t aiming for the personnel, she didn’t want to really hurt anyone… but she didn’t want that thing to be able to chase them. She was aiming for the main sail… the source of power for a boat like this. If she could take it out, knock it down, or destroy its support structure around it, the boat wouldn’t move… not on its own power.

Shina was also looking at this as an opportunity… to test her little trainee… Tiny Mighty. They had gone through a lot of power conditioning and training making it easier for the young man to control how strong he was, not only so he didn’t hurt anyone too seriously, but also so that he can control how much he relied on his strength. He could become stronger by working out and not using his powers to enhance his strength… she knew that… and she had done her best to make sure he knew that.

“Cannon Ready!!” She roared, preparing those around her for the shock, noise and power that was about to be unleashed. She hadn’t prepared a fuse, but she already knew she didn’t need one. Placing her hand on the fuse hole, she stood to the side. "FIRE!!!" she roared, igniting the air inside the fuse hole which ignited the gunpowder, sending the sphere of lead flying, slightly off course due to the inaccuracy of the cannon, and causing the ship to shudder ever so slightly with the blast.

Evvy

Evelyn stared when the wheel vanished. Well, that sucked. But that wouldn’t stop them. She was determined… and already her teammates were working to counteract the problem. Still… a steering wheel would be nice. She gave a little smirk, which was rather uncharacteristic of her while around … well, anyone. The younger plant manipulator had an idea, and hopefully it would work out to be more than just an idea.

Ari told her to man the cannons, along with a few others. She walked to one, eyes on where the wheel should be. Perhaps the slow walk, while others hurried to do as told, could be considered ... something. That she wasn't doing her part maybe. At first consideration, at least. Where the wheel had been, the deck groaned slightly.. before a single board burst into life, a young sapling shooting up. Evvy stopped it from getting too big, and made it ... shape itself. Now, how to attach it to the ship... oh. Right. The other parts weren't taken, just the wheel. She waved to Ari, as if it hadn't been obvious what she'd just done, before moving the rest of the way to the cannon.

"Someone should take lookout, maybe?" she suggested, glancing at the .. thing. The thing with the sails. She was absolutely terrified of heights, so she definately was not volunteering, but if someone had height on their side, they could get a better view of what the others were doing. Hopefully the other side hadn't considered that option...

She struggled a bit with the cannonball, but of course those were heavy... she sighed quietly. "We should broadside them with the cannons, passing," she stated. The thing was, the stuff she knew of ships and pirates, she knew from books she'd borrowed... from Lyndal... she shot a look across the water. Oh, this was going to be interesting. Perhaps if they had an official leader, her giving these little 'suggestions' would be a bit of a problem, but they were a team and as long as they got things done ... everyone that had something to contribute, should. “Someone want to freeze the rudders… so they can’t steer and won’t realize why…?” she asked, aiming the idea at Mazu and Iceman for obvious reasons. She didn’t...

Oh shit.

It was all she could think when she heard a cannon fire from the other ship. Perhaps it wasn't going to hit precisely where it was meant to hit. It still tore a hole in the sail. The sail, it was cotton, no? She frowned. Whether it was or not, she was patching the damn thing. "I'll get that. I'm on repairs, for starters," she stated, and began to climb. Despite the internal manic fear that tried to claw its way out, she climbed. She wanted to get a good look at what she was working with, and she was going to fix it. "Kel, take my place at the cannon," she added as she went, as an afterthought. It'd be easier for him to lift the heavy metal balls anyway, though he didn't really look strong... looks could be deceiving even when powers weren't involved.

Anne Lee
Unregistered

Kate's reaction was expected. Anne Lee flashed a smile. "Of course you're not a plushie." There was no acknowledgment of apology or caring if anyone else heard. Kate liked Mittens more than just a friend. These feelings were probably conflicted somewhat. The empath after all was just starting puberty. It's not as though she would completely understand why Mittens stood out among the crowd. Being who she was Anne Lee would most likely try to make the other blush and change color by bringing up her bother. It was amusing. Her baby brother was the source of someone's crush.

Warren began to speak which made Anne Lee to stop pestering and pay attention. The moment the word 'pirates' reached her ears became the moment where she could have cheered. This training session would be one of the most fun she'd ever remember. No matter what happened her and the rest would be speaking of this in the future. Just one small disappointment. Was it possible to switch teams? She wanted to be the a pirate. Well, there were better times to complain. The prospect of having an overseas battle would be the booby prize. Nice, fun, and legitimate thrills. What more could she want?

While everyone walked or ran to the assigned ships, she skipped in mirth. How fun this would be? Yet, as the mention of cannons hit her ears Anne Lee slowly began to realize that they could get hurt. So this was going to be a no-holds-bar where the main goal was to capture the 'flag'. Thing though, they had the 'flag' on their ship. That meant one thing. They would be boarded! "This is so totally going to fun," Anne Lee said this with a laugh and clapped her hands. Seriousness or not, there were pirates about. However, once their ships was boarded than the fun would greatly decrease. Aww... so what?

The games began. "Aye, aye Mon Capitaine." Nightcrawler took the title of leader and gave her an order she could not refuse. However, summoning the pirate ship's steering wheel would be a feat on the summoner's part. Anne Lee said nothing about it. A lot of focus needed to be had. The noises of her 'crewmates' as they went off to complete their orders did not phase her. There was a time when Sentinels tore apart the ground, where guns were pointed at children, where an author planned an escape as a much harder feat had been achieved. Just one question: why did the steering wheel have to be summoned?

And Want focused as her crewmates performed their own duties. In preparation to catch the assigned object she held out her arms. Trying to remain collected her breathing became even. Objects that had been summoned before or small things were the easiest and less exhausting to get. This was neither small nor common. After this was done she would have to take a quick break. Without an uttered word the steering wheel from the pirate ship disappeared. Like magic the acquired wheel appeared in front of her a few seconds later. Suddenly becoming aware of the foolheadiness of catching to catch it Want jumped back and it clanged to the ground.

"Would there be anything else needed?" Want asked Nightcrawler. As she said this she went to attention and held a salute to her captain. "Just need to fall back for a moment." Her words just came out of her mouth right before she fell to the deck landing ungracefully upon her bum. Was it mentioned summoning the steering wheel would be some sort of feat? "Give about two minutes if we got it." In truth the time limit required to recover her powers had decreased by 20 seconds. She just needed breathing time.

Ricochet
Unregistered

If there was one good thing about Ash it was that everything and anything was worthy of equal awe and excitement, and he perpetually threw himself into just about all possible scenarios with the enthusiasm of a cranked up attention deficit. So when the sterile metallic edgings that plated the spacious Danger Room peeled back to reveal sun, sea, sand and extremely impressive schooners, Ricochet reacted as though Christmas had just arrived and he was the recipient of the Play Boy mansion in its entirety.

‘HAHAHAHARRRR MATEYS!!!’ he guffawed, even if the Italian wasn’t with the pirates. He could still act like one, right? And still want an eyepatch and a bandana…and a cutlass…and one of those pirate hats, frayed at the edges of course, a little dirtied, with a rainbow Macaw perched on his shoulder to echo everything he said. Oh, and a peg leg. Yeeaah.

He didn’t quite mind exactly which team they placed him with- laid back to a fault, almost so relaxed in just about any situation it was a wonder he had any skeletal structure at all…which was probably a good thing in this situation, seeing as any protestation would be fruitless. Notwithstanding, Ash practically never complained about anything…ever…

There was an insane confidence to every stride Ricochet made, even if his strides were often at five hundred miles per hour and impossible to visually follow, but that was partly where his confidence lay. There was no way in heaven or earth that anyone here could possibly keep that sceptre on his or her person…not with Ash on board, as it were. The moment they laid hands on it would be the moment they lost it, and what with the teleporter also on the solider side, well that was a double whammy of you are not fast enough for us kiddies. Strength and firepower meant nothing if you couldn’t land the strike; if you couldn’t swat the fly then victory would drizzle through the spaces between fingers like water escaping through cracks in the floorboards.

Appearing on the deck in a blur, popping one of the Ipod earplugs out so that he could actually hear what everyone was conversing about; as Kurt gave him a heads up the speedster threw the blue fuzzball a salute, while eyeing the rigging with a hungry look. The shrouds were begging to be climbed, shimmied up at high speed to then swing upside down from the crosstree…

‘Aye aye, skipper,’ he quipped, still staring at the lofty height as if it were a prime side of beef. His attention was torn from the temptation…albeit momentarily…as the enemy ship’s helm appeared out of thin air and crashed onto the deck. Following that Shina bellowed from somewhere behind him and launched one of the cannons…a bit scarily gung ho, seeing as they were barely out of the port, but hey, who cared?

‘Avast, ye scurvy scoundrels!’ Ash crowed at the distancing boat; ‘You’ll be suppin with the fishes in Davy Jones’ locker afore the day is done, mark me words, bahahaha!’

Lesly Cuff

Lesly watched in near bubbling excitement as she watched the other students enter the room. She slowly sized them up, trying to remember their powers and relative skill. However, she had very little reference to who was on what squad. She was sure that Anne Lee was a Paragon, like her, a long with the Mordred twins. Kate was on the Exemplars, thus most likely against her. but everyone else she had no idea about.

Anne Lee entered the room and she gave a friendly wave, bouncing slightly on her toes and rolling her collapsed Bo Staff over and around her hand. She watched carefully as Anne Lee walked over to Kate and whispered something in her ear. Les smiled slightly, turning away so she can ride it out without the two girls noticing. She had a fair guess on the subject of the whisper, something about a brother of one and a potential boyfriend to the other. But this was neither the time nor the place for her to butt in on her friend's barely existent love-life. She had a battle to win.

Warren called her attention, and explained the scenario. The Author blinked as the beach materialized around her. Having been in the Danger Room at least Twice before she was not surprise at all to see a beach appear before her eyes and a pair of schooners waiting to be manned...

or womanned she thought to herself as she started off towards the ship. She turned around and heard Kurt started to corralled the team together, including a newly arrived gray skinned student. She stole a glance at the other side of the beach, taking one last friendly look at Kate as she went to board the other ship. Lesly sighed and turned to Avery as she walked up the gang plank.

"Cannons?" She asked, blinking once, but then she caught the rest of the thought. "Oh, yeah..Cannons..." She said, slowly walking backwards towards the narrow staircase below deck. "I think I may have an idea for that..." She said, just as the ship jumped to open waters.

"It's Morphing time..." She said, turning around and bolting down to the gun deck. She dash towards the bow, and in a stroke of inspiration, she pulled out her notebook from the small of her back and began to write down how she wanted her world to be.

The had cannons, they had ammo, they even had gun powder. But what the Paragons didn't have was knowledge. how does one actually load a cannon? However, Lesly had already though of this and made the cannons alot easier to fire.

Four of cannons on the Paragon ship, two a side, were now ribbed with hockey puck sized electromagnets. Each of them powerful enough to hold 300 pounds a piece. but twelve of them together...that's a lot of power. All of the Electromagnets were wired into a timing device on the back end of the cannon, to perfectly synchronized the EM charge, in order to hurl the seven pound cannonball at near mach speeds towards the Exemplar ship. Topping it off like a cherry on a deadly sundae, was a palm sized red button, that glows when the capacitor was full.

And like a cherry on to top of this tweak, All of the Exemplar cannon currently facing them were suddenly rusted over. The flakes of iron oxide choked the bore and rendered the cannons mere lawn ornaments.

Now..the game could begin..."

Author looked up just as her enigmatic Shards of humming light put the finishing touches of her hyper cannons. She smirked, looking over her work as Shina started working on one of the unfazed cannons. Firing it off with a thunderuos explosion and a ringing in her ear. She watched Shina in a mix of awe and fear as she worked the cannon. It was kind of weird to see a young woman arming and firing cannons like one butters toast. Les Looked over her paper, blushing slightly at the first line in it. But now it was easier to load and fire. And she could help.

The Author looked out the porthole towards the other ship. The rusted remains of their cannons stuck out of the gun deck like red barnacles.
"HA!!" Lesly said, leaning her head out the window. "How do you like me now?!?!" She shouted, waving her hands and making herself an obvious target. But a few seconds of gloating in the middle of battle was always a tactical mistake, but oh so worth it.

"So, what needs destroyed?" Lesly said, manning the nearest Rail-Cannon and carefully tucking the sheet of tweaks into her uniform.

Kelrian

Too much was happening at once; Kelrian just went with it. He began loading a canon as ordered, and tried not to freak out that the ship was missing a wheel and had a hole in it. Evvy was dealing with it, he should concentrate on the task on hand.

If only the task on hand was not a rusted cannon. He stared at in disbelief, and then across the way at Lesly. She did not just do that. Instead of actually having the spaz-fest that was threatening, he pushed the rusty hulk of metal away from the side of the ship.

"Um... if the rusted cannons are completely useless, we could throw 'em overboard... and go faster," he called out to the others, dragging a cannon from the opposite side of the ship and loading it. "Except, that'd make the ship uneven in weight, so I'll move half of 'em to the other side." It was probably way too much muscle strain, but you know what? If he tore something, it'd heal. Screw it.

It took him a few moments to figure out how to really work it, but then he got it. And it went boom, right toward the side of the other ship. He hadn't even aimed... which had been incredibly dense of him after all that effort, but still. It actually hit! The blond grinned, not considering that sending a cannonball at his friends could have actually hurt them. Before reloading the cannon, he pushed one of the rusty ones over the side. Rinse, repeat; in other words, he pushed another one over, pushed its rusty opposite overboard, and fired it toward the opposite ship.

An unlikely source of aggression, maybe? Hah, Kel was having fun as a pirate. If only he were dressed the part...
